Is it possible to beat Terraria without tools?

tools are an integral part of terraria's gameplay they're used to gather an array of resources to better the player's equipment but what if we tried to beat Terraria without them is that even possible well today we're gonna find out after trashing or starting pickaxe and X our first goal is to find a way to gather enough wood for a workbench because as you can imagine without a workbench we're locked out of a lot of items luckily for us aside from chopping the trees down with an ax we have a couple other options in this case we'll be using bombs which can be found early on in pots should be easy right okay this is a bad idea I forgot I had no torches and no means of acquiring them but somehow we got our bomb so after quick tactical Retreat we could now acquire some wood now of course in addition to Gathering wood we'll also have to use the bombs for Mining and something tells me five bombs won't quite cut it for an entire Terraria run so our top priority at this point is getting the demolitionist to move in which proved to be a little more annoying than usual I think it's the Rope no okay well in that case we'll just block swap it uh it turns out that mechanic requires you to have a pickaxe in your inventory so we were left with just one option I think this will work yeah it's a little messy but it works with the demolitionist finally in his new home we could continue exploring I decided to make my way to the jungle as it's generally much more open than other underground areas and also is home to some of the strongest pyramid weapons I soon realized that when bombs are your one and only way of destroying tiles you could get yourself into some pretty awkward situations if you're not careful uh okay I didn't think this through oh but hey at least we learned our lesson and won't be making that mistake oh now if you've seen any speed runs you'll probably already know about this one from the Destroyer fight but chess can't be destroyed with bombs so once they're placed down they're not going anywhere in this playthrough this isn't that big of a deal for chests but this mechanic has much more annoying implications that we'll get into a little later in the video we picked it up it's all that matters oh I did it again wait you think I could fit a bomb like through that opening what I'm thinking is we throw this thing down okay we slam it down bounce boom rolls up and then I managed to get a few Life Crystals while I was down there but unfortunately no boo sick yet despite that I figured our Ted and bow should be more than enough to take on the I've Cthulhu yes I mean the boss fights at least are pretty normal these aren't really going to change well until we're using gear that we normally don't use but pretty hard mode I don't think that happens all that much don't die right at the end okay nice we got it we got it after the boss fight I decided to mine some more to top off her health chat how how stupid is it to make a diamond hook one one to ten very stupid 10 out of 10. why well now would be a good time to clarify the rules of this challenge obviously no tools includes things like pickaxes Hammers and axes but to keep the rules set cut and dry and more challenging I've prohibited every single item listed on the tools Wiki page which includes many more items than you would initially think our hooks oh wait are they oh they totally are they totally are all right chat it was a dumb idea terrible idea oh yeah yeah actually planner boxes allow for the player to freely swing their weapons without having to worry about ruining the Herb Farm for normal playthroughs this is great because you can just use your pickaxe to harvest them therein lies the problem some of you might be thinking about the sap regrowth and as luck would have it yeah I could always use bombs to collect them but exploding my Herb Farm every time I wanted to craft some Buffs didn't seem very practical luckily there's another way while holding seeds you can effectively block swap the herb with a new seat and because it's not actually using the block swapping mechanic no pickaxe is required well we dodged a bullet here the inconveniences are far from over after some splunking we are ready for some more bosses and unlike with many of my other challenges the boss fights were pretty standard for this one despite the challenge of being in master mode compared to what I normally have to deal with it was a piece of cake but don't worry hard mode will have a thing or two to say about that look at the chicken doing work look at that look how much damage the chicken is doing I'm so carried by the chicken wait there we go easy easy easy so remember those bomb proof chests Well turns out the same thing applies to Hell forges so each time we want to use this we have to travel all the way down to hell that being said we won't have to worry about this until heart mode because of course you can't blow a house Stone until the wall flash has been defeated which was as simple as setting up a bridge and finding out Wing Bo and there it is nice and easy now that we've entered hard mode the main drawbacks of this challenge start to emerge with no tools we can't Mine The Hard Mode ores because just like with hellstone explosives have no effect and even if we could how would we generate them onto our world without the hammer to destroy the altars there is another way however which I'm sure most of you have already envisioned us using you can also fish for Harbo crates which then drop the ore slight wrinkle with that one uh you remember that tools Wiki page uh yeah the fishing rods they are on there so not only are all the tools banned from this challenge but unless there's an alternate means of acquiring them every single armor piece weapon accessory and summon crafted through the mithril Anvil is two by extension so what are we left with well not much in fact before the hard mode bosses we really only have two routes we can take here and well both of them are Summoner we could either grind the old ones Army for medals and buy one of those sets or we could grind out the spider armor which fortunately for us only needs a workbench to craft oh and I guess spiraled too but uh no thanks in the end I went with the spider set and I would have loved to use the sanguini staff with this Loadout but fishing so spider staff it is with our new Loadout we could Now set our sights on the Queen's slime for the blade staff because I really want to get a better summon for Airborne targets because well just watch the fight and you'll see what I mean uh there's the butching table all right here it is ghost spiders oh no this is gonna be so bad they can't keep up I gotta go slow but I can't it's like a hit by everything because I can't really I cannot move this is not a good Loadout for this fight it was clear to me that I needed something with better range now again there's not a ton to choose from but I settled on the dart pistol because it should have the range we need additionally I can still craft the keys of Knight to farm them efficiently because thankfully they're crafted at a workbench after briefly touching up our Arena I went into the next attempt we'll probably be here for a while but you know what that's okay it's all good nice that is Queen slime first boss defeated very nice after a very grueling fight thanks to our 100 DPS we didn't quite get the one and three drop we were looking for Not only was this grind slow but it also was difficult with her non-existent summer defense stats but eventually on our fifth attempt we got it uh hey we got it okay nice I briefly hinted at it before but the reason we don't have wings equipped is because we can't actually get any yet nearly all of them require the Anvil and Not Just Wings but many other crucial items like the mechanical summons which are of course mandatory bosses now I know what you're thinking if you wait long enough they'll just spawn in naturally problem solved but that won't quite work you see the mech bosses can only spawn naturally after an altar has been destroyed and since that is impossible in this run we're back to the drawing board thankfully there's one more way to get a hold of the mix summons until the respective Mech boss has been defeated all enemies have a 1 in 2 500 chance of dropping the mechanical summon not ideal but we aren't exactly left with another Choice fortunately at this point I've already gathered two of them without even grinding it out of the two I felt that the twins fight would be easier since we had the Unicorn I could not have been more wrong in addition to our low defense so intercept since fishing rods are banned our buff options are severely limited no life force endurance Summoner wrath rage you get the idea oh my God I don't like this I don't like the fact that I'm like almost dead here I really don't appreciate that no oh and that one 2500 twin summon down the drain it was clear that the spider set wasn't cutting it so I switched to the crystal assassin armor that we got from Queen slime for more defense with just the prime someone left we gave it a go okay this is off to a bad start oh damn are those lasers I'm just getting like hit so hard by some of these things I'm really surprised it just goes to show you how much like endurance and and everything really helps out like these these unironically have been some of the hardest Mech fights I've ever done in any challenge it's bad dude no I'm so dead I'm swimming heel okay finally that goes down doing good now not that the Laser's gone we're chilling yeah we did it okay yeah yeah man this is stressful hello bars oh wait chat these are useless these are we can't even use these you need a mythranville or so I thought but turns out back when the updated Hollow set was introduced in 1.4 the devast still gave the player an option to craft for now ancient hallowed set identical stats but with the old Sprite instead of cluttering up the crafting menu and confusing players with both sets at the myth lanville they fortunately changed the crafting station to the demon altar however we don't quite have enough bars for the full set so time to grind for another maximum is probably what you expect us to do now but no I somehow managed to get another twin summon mere seconds after defeating Prime this time I wouldn't let it go to waste oh run away no more all right there we go GG we did it with the twins defeated we could now get our new armor and also wings and if you're wondering why I didn't get this earlier well he's working yet are these even good they should be what oh how did I not notice these are only three blocks wide oh no destroys the last Mech standing in her way and to even have a chance at defeating this thing we needed a new Loadout originally I was contemplating the swap to Ranger but after realizing just how many weapons and more importantly ammunition are locked behind the Anvil I quickly waved that idea aside instead we switched to Mage after obtaining the Unholy Trident nibis rod and life train I'll watch this Nimbus Rod let me try oh chat I'm not usually this lucky I'm telling you guys I'm telling you this doesn't usually happen and our luck had finally run dry at this point we had to farm our way to the last Mech boss it took nearly two hours of branding in the dungeon but we finally got the summon and were able to proceed we got it we got it mechanical worm oh hi buddy oh yeah we're doing a lot of damage to you we're doing a lot of damage to you I want to see Destroyer though oh there is the NPCs it's not a destroyer fight unless you lose all of your NPCs okay good it's just about done wasted life force it's fine no it's fine we could not afford to lose this thing so it's okay it's okay it's all good I mean not that I was all that close but still okay I should probably clear this up how did we get a life force potion if I just said we couldn't get them because we can't fish it turns out you can very rarely find them in Shadow chests so while they're not unobtainable in this run they are extremely rare and we have to pick and choose which fights we use them on because we're only gonna get so many as much as I'd like to say we could now add some cool new glorified upgrades for Loadout no hard mode ores and Anvil means no glorifying so before fighting Plantera all we could really do was gather life Fruit okay the Moment of Truth can we actually bomb this uh I think we can probably I'd be surprised if we couldn't so here we go hopefully spawns on that side we sure can bomb it all right now you two need to go you ow you were not invited oh yeah it's gonna be hard without a grapple to get up there I did not think of that okay oh God luckily I did such a bad job of blowing this up so there's all these like craters on the side oh this isn't a lot of it should be fine I think we'll be fine oh yeah we're doing good damage this thing will go down one more round and then we go okay can we go we gotta go slow here no wrong weapon whoa almost died okay we got it that was kind of scary it's a lot harder when you can't like grapple uh but we still had a little bit of Runway left so not bad there's Plantera after plan two it's time to head to the dungeon where we had uh an interesting farming session oh no okay I can open it this side oh the banner please open through the banner no I can't get out the Banner's blocking this side and the Tombstones okay we're gonna wait for this to die then we make our Great Escape yeah uh okay uh I deserve this hold on before y'all complain I deserve all of this okay and whoever watched the the uh tools stuff live you you all know okay we've made it uh this is uh not great not a great Temple room but I suppose it could be worse Nimbus Bluff it's time oh got to pee on him hold up oh oh no no life drain save me ah the jumping I'm dead I'm dead oh oh damn okay that was bad getting stuck there was so bad no way I just missed that ah okay there we go we got it that was almost bad it's it's kind of tricky when you get a a closed up area like that normally at this point we'd fight fishron but I don't think I really have to explain that one so instead we went straight to empress and honestly the hardest part about this one was spawning in the boss on time because we can't use the bug net we just have to hope that a lacewing spawns in early enough why can't I kill it do I have the book on oh we got we're just missing okay uh battle potion off buff good we've already done good damage so I'm not as worried as I was going into this all right come on don't joke we've messed up again but we're getting saved by iframes it doesn't matter wow iframes are saving me so bad what's new let's go love the Dodge uh oh dude it's broken it's broken this accessory combo is so broken all right well there we go after defeating cultists we finally got the next crafting station the ancient manipulator so I went straight to the nebi pillar to get ourselves the gauntlets and from there the rest of the pillars fell with ease well we haven't quite got another armor upgrade yet the hallowed set isn't even that bad for the site because of how strong the set bonus is although it is a little more frail than what I'm used to wow okay there's our first hit come on please go down ah oh whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa chill okay chords here but we need to not die how many potions 87. yeah we're good we're good it started so what's what is that doing there no dude I swear these cells screw me over somehow oh my stop go away what what am I gonna do there's gonna be so many of them they're blocking all my teleport to spawn actually that's kind of a genius idea just despawn them yeah great idea thank you promise now we gotta deal with the eyes again but it's better because now at least we hit the Bots and prevent it from healing so we just do this wow wow wow wow wow I am blown away by how good Dodge is dude what what Terraria completed without the use of any tools thank you for watching subscribe for more Challenge videos like
