International Desserts Taste Test

today we're skipping dinner and heading straight to international dessert let's talk about that [Music] good mythical morning i often think if i was stranded on a deserted island i'd want to bring a dairy cow because i usually like to drink milk with my dessert what would you bring oh i see what you did deserted island an island covered in desserts yes it's time for where in the world do these international deserts come from y'all know the drill we're going to be trying a very specific type of dessert native to a particular country on that map that we're gonna be throwing darts at and chase our cupcake cartographer is gonna be measuring how far our darts are from the correct country whoever has a lowest score at the end is the winner and listen this game has gotten interesting as of late link and i have been winning this game back and forth for four months in a row now if we keep flip-flopping like a sea bass we're gonna be on the deck of a carnival cruise before we know it and i've always wanted to go on a cruise not really though you have no no i'm too big for cruises uh just for the beds i'm just i'm a large man uh okay so we're currently tied for the longest ever flip flop i'm surprised because you seem to always know where things are from and i can't throw darts yeah except for the remember that time i'm not giving you a lot of hints uh but here's the deal if i win this time then we've got a whole new flip-flop streak the longest we'll set the record oh yeah and of course if you win then i mean the world may end i don't know but you know what because you did win last time i get the special advantage dart it's the elegant ladyfingers dart the winner will receive the coveted dessert squirt which i'm told is a good thing let's do some sort of mummified we've got insects that have taken out residents on this plate and gone into a cocoon format what is this it is it's a cocoon oh god oh what it's very chewy look how stringy that is and it reveals what is that on the inside it's it's it's a peanuts it looks like a nougat that was difficult to get into but it tastes really good well you won last time so you go first and don't you forget it because it may never happen again oh man look at that wide open map i'm thinking argentina why is that what what what okay you got a a hat cam what are you talking about you got a camera in your hat i always wear this hat i've never seen you wear that hat well i've been wearing it a lot lately maybe you haven't seen me in it but i've been wearing it at least 60 of the time that i'm awake colloquially in the office we call it the red hat it's the red hat chase knows about it chase has been wearing that cupcake hat i've been wearing this cowboy hat what are you talking about yeah you look ridiculous man i don't i don't i don't i don't i don't what uh would you say i have no clue it's just sugar wrapped around peanuts i mean that could be anywhere who doesn't like peanuts i mean peanuts are everywhere dig a hole anywhere on earth you're gonna you're gonna unearth a peanut yeah dig a hole right anywhere on earth you're gonna unearth the peanut that's what i've always said dang it i have no i've also always worn that i think it's argentina gotta go for the middle of the map okay so what now speak freely yeah i've been waiting and remove that dumb hat what are you talking that's awesome tell me how awesome the head is say zero off say the hat is awesome it's too small and it's got a camera in it what are you talking about is too small uh you notice i didn't say anything about the camera do you have any type of guess man it kind of sometimes it catches the light so yeah we got the war window to work on um play the game do you have any type of guess sad macho man rip-off okay i'll take that any day i'm taking ukraine man just because it's got like a snowy sort of feel to it but also there is a blandness to it that i associate with eastern europe um and not not the people you know just the food just everything um sometimes in the winter the landscape just and the people everybody kind of throw the whales together aim at ukraine oh i love that place it's horrible hopefully it's peck lay it on us stevie you just ate dragon's beard candy resembling a white cocoon dragon's beard candy is made from sugar and maltose syrup along with peanuts sesame seeds and coconut this handmade traditional dessert quite similar to cotton candy is enjoyed in china oh i'm glad i didn't go for argentina well i got a little bit closer to china you lucky dog with a too small dumb hat all right link you had 27 and rhett 22. oh 27 and 22. huh five centimeters separate our top two contestants in the world do we have here i mean we've got a we've got this it's just it's just is there anything else cream yeah it's like iceless cream and it's okay is it marshmallow it's pretty it's like bubble gum flavored what is that is that toothpaste flavor it's like if an alien got a broadcast from earth and and saw people eating ice cream and they were like we must marine create this dish from earth but they couldn't tell how cold it was and then they get to earth they're like planes have ice cream uh we come in peace we bring hot ice cream thank you no they wouldn't know that it was hot ice cream they wouldn't even know it was ice cream they would be please enjoy cream they would just they would notice cream yeah wow it's not great this comes from a fun place okay you're in the lead now so what is that fun place pray tell now there's a number of things that i think about this not only is this a fun place but it's a place of community communal dying because this is like everybody get your cone and put some cream in it you know where would they say something like that man the thing is is i'm pulled towards both halves of the map i'm pulled towards indonesia david is potentially one of the most fun people i know he's from indonesia uh i could see david enjoying this with friends [Laughter] and uh but i could also see them doing this in argentina indonesia indonesia argentina indonesia argentina argentina now here's the thing it seems like it should be something that's frozen but it's iceless i think it's in a place where they're over ice they're over ice it's a cold place and they're so over it the last thing they want is trying to take the ice out of the cream iceland then huh yes exactly i think that's a there's a lot of logic in that iceland oh you just had a whopping load of espumias which translates to foams and while it may look like ice cream this dessert is actually meringue cream made from food fruit pulp sugar and egg whites esbumias are a very popular street dessert served just like this in ecuador ecuador ah okay close to ecuador so the opposite of like a cold place on the freaking equator okay rhett you had 10. and link again 27. why they want hot ice cream hot ice cream over on the mythical kitchen channel they make these highly imaginative foods i mean i can't even imagine it i just watch it i'm like wow they did that and they imagined it beforehand like the three-course meal the baja blast panna cotta that was chef's kiss that's what that is yeah chefs i'm getting a shot of josh watching you what's your favorite part about panna cotta the just the pan part yeah me too right tune in wherever you have the internet mythical kitchen it's a whole channel it's it's a thing speaking of what is this thing hold on y'all forgot to take the bbs off i mean look at that it's look at is that edible well let's find out and look at that it's a candied i think it's just tangerine orange i think it might be oh that's going to damage the i mean is this a cake what's in there uh it's pretty hollow nice little yeah you're smooshing it man you're crying you're messing it up i'm sorry he's doing great you know what no actually what happened is it got some of that orange juice and it just claps down into there before you get one of those scrape it out i want to see a cross section of this thing okay oh and what is that in the middle is that a is that m m's is it an m m no it's a chocolate chip chocolate chip so this is a layered cake i got the bb i got one the bb very citrusy very festive yeah you can eat you're pulling away you can bite the bbs you're 22 centimeters in the lead so lead on man um it's it's refreshing i mean it is festive is the best word i can come up with for that and i don't know where the idea for the ball bearings comes from and this thing this isn't fun could be a dave and idea an entire could be an entire little orange that's been candied i believe it might be it might be from a place that they they really value ball bearings like so like there's machines there where are there machines there's something about the color scheme that makes me think senegal of course the the you know red and green and white is also like and that's the italian flag oh gosh i don't know i'm just thinking too much i'm thinking out loud i shouldn't do that it's not helping me i'm kind of glazing over uh i don't know senegal why not a little north of senegal he lands yeah i mean i always think of the parties in argentina and i could see this thing coming out it's definitely the first thing i thought of and then i was like but ukraine but ukraine nothing to drab about ukraine to me i'm going to go for argentina [Laughter] it's not that funny it was just not that funny come on the dart just went down a little bit i don't know why that's funny here have a ball bearing this liqueur soaked sponge cake is called cassata and it is filled with sweet ricotta cheese and chocolate has marzipan shell and is decorated with candied fruits and royal icing cassata is usually reserved for special occasions and is steeped in the history of sicily italy oh wow italy yeah i mean so you accidentally get closer to italy unless you accidentally almost hear the thing my arm is controlled by logic and my brain is controlled by a pure conjecture so somewhere they meet in the middle and i get close to the right answer i can't just i can't describe it that's why i wear this hat all right this was a pretty close round rhett you had 10 link 52. uh pretty close yeah pretty pretty now chase is being sarcastic with you now italy huh yeah italy yes let's cover the colors of the flag you know i did say that might i just take a moment to point out that uh link you would have been better off missing the entire map in that last round because you would have gotten a 50 automatically and you got a 52 which is two more there's something to think about this room uh this is something orange in a bowl i'm not even gonna look at it [Music] no what is this what is this carrots crushed nuts and raisins it's hot it's like a warm orange muesli i was thinking sweet potato but i do believe that you're right it's it is carrot based well where is it from that's the question carrots where do they love that tastes it's good um i think this is the ukraine because you know it's it's cold it's cold there and this is warm it's in a bowl it's carrot-based i can just imagine like a little ukrainian boy i'll leave boys out of this i would just like i would like to be warmed like the little match boy you remember that story i think he was in london but that's not an option okay that was a good throw you think that's a good guess um man it seems a little demoralized this is pakistan i the only way that i'm going to feel good is is to get a bull's-eye oh okay that's quite it's quite tall order fine all right make my day stevie you just had the comforting wintertime dessert known as gajar kahalva which translates to carrot pudding and it's made with grated carrots milk sugar and cardamom while you might also find this in india it's equally as popular in pakistan oh look at me i had a good guess that i missed yeah good guess all right that counts for something all right rhett you had 16 link nine see hey there you go you know things some sort of is it pistachio white nougat is it nougat hmm okay well it's got a flower taste to it i got bro it's got rose water in it i believe yeah like like a rose and i love rose flavored stuff like uh you know rose flavored nougat i don't like to lose so i'm gonna try to guarantee my victory by using my cheat that i earned by losing last time that's right i lost fair and square last time the lady fingers oh so i'm gonna get her fingers all nice and fudgy yep okay and then what and then i'm gonna watch yourself oh so i feel confident that based on the fact that this is a mild flavor of dessert almost in like the like almost like a baklava like just very a subtle flavor incorporating nuts and rose flavoring this is i bet one of my fingers that this is from the middle east so i'm going to try to just center my ladyfingers right there no and okay there you go you didn't you didn't rotate that much so i'm happy with that uh yeah with those pistachios yeah i mean i was i was thinking the same area uh but in order to win i've got to go for the gusto away from it so i'm going to go against my instincts because all that that doesn't gain me anything i'm going to have to go for new zealand there's no way it could be new zealand but hey if it is new zealand and you hit the country you win no matter what okay you heard it right here do i get the hat no no of course not it's the red hat yeah i mean i kind of have almost fused with this thing i've been wearing it so much new zealand for the win hey that was pretty awesome that was a practice throw there was no dart involved no nobody saw it nobody saw that nobody saw it there there is a dart stuck in the ground new zealand at an angle for the win oh i hit new zealand hold on did you you might be right in between the two i i think i missed i went in this the straight between the two islands absolutely right in between right the butt crack of new zealand wow i can't okay this sweet dessert is called gas it's nougat made with pistachios and rose water and then it's shaped into logs or rectangles and cut into smaller pieces nicole i'll just i'll let you
