do you ever almost die and immediately have the urge to upload a tic toc well you are not alone in fact just the other day I was choking on a corn nut violently and I had the presence of mind the vision the prowess to take my phone out and start taking a tic toc because I knew that that was my shot at getting on the front page but unfortunately my wife has the gall to give me the Heimlich maneuver to save my life and in the process ejecting the corn odd I dropped my phone at broke and I lost the tick-tock in my shot was completely shattered you see she's ignorant to how the world works these days traumatic life events are no longer things to be approached with prudence they are now because of these opportunities to go vibe anyways what was me boohoo Leon you're probably thinking I I know I'm not here to cry about my once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that was squandered by my wife's ignorance we're talking about two sixteen-year-old girls from Pittsburgh that had much better luck than I did two sixteen-year-old cheerleaders that had the good fortune of getting into a rollover car accident setting the stage for the perfect post traumatic life event I wrote a talk and they knocked it out of the park [Music] that's what I'm talking about baby these girls get it it is a new world order of young tick tock influencers the future leaders of the world and it's go viral or die trying' time that means when you're screaming down the freeway texting you're crushing whoops-a-daisy I rolled my car over twice well that means you better check that every single one of your damn limbs attached and get ready to fire off a sick tick-tock because if you don't you're gonna suffer a lifetime full of regret and loneliness knowing that you missed your one opportunity to get on the trending page and ain't nobody got the fortitude to come back from an L like that hello everyone welcome back to a brand new figure skating tutorial my name is Leon lush I do appreciate you being here with me before you bully me about my second pair of eyes in the comments and forced me to delete my channel just know that I woke up a few days ago with dual eye conjunctivitis which is Spanish for conjunctivitis it was like someone welded my eyelids shut with gunk anyways needed to give the eyes a break so we got the glasses on for a few days now that you know that why don't you try having a little bit of sympathy for once in your damn life so I just became aware of this event that happened a few weeks ago in Philadelphia these two highschool girls got the pretty serious rollover car accident in their first instinct was to pull out their phone and make a silly tic talk about it I need jerk reaction was kind of it was I just thought it was funny kind of foreboding and sad said a quick prayer for my son's future but mostly if I'm being honest I'm pretty desensitized to this kind of thing because I've been looking at such soul-crushing content for so long in this channel I nothing really fazes me much anymore so the video starts to blow up a little bit and unsurprisingly it's not received very well by a lot of people because this is the internet after all and then a little time passes in Zayn from david dobrik slog squad tweets the video on his Twitter account but there was quite a bit of people that had some admiration for their dedication to the craft got to respect their dedication dedication the devil works hard but tick-tock girls work harder [Music] so after the girl that made the tic-tock found out that zayn tweeted it she actually signed up to twitter so she could start responding to people she said this that's me I downloaded Twitter for this oh my gosh I am crying I am wearing click big merch as I type this par for the course for a high school girl she loves the vlog squad no shade and let's be honest looks like that tik toks paying off cuz she's getting noticed by one of her idols and now she has bragging rights at school so Zane's tweet blows her video up even more and the criticism keeps rolling in it starts getting picked up by some mainstream media some online media and guess who's leading the criticism charge it's those damn boomers that's right because what a boomers hate more than having to figure out how to open an email it's kids with phones to hell with them they're ruining the planet 16 year old has gone viral for a video posted on the social media platform Tik Tok after she got into a really bad car accident she says the video helped her cope cope cope but we want to know what you think take a look okay so that car was overturned and they did a tick-tock oh man my man right here is beside himself look at that gaze he could not believe what he just witnessed now I never want to tell anyone how to feel in shock right but what I see here is someone to women incapable of dealing with an actual event and an emotion and what they do is I have to translate my feelings into literally a tick-tock video to be able to comprehend what's going on I think they comprehend it just fine and knew exactly what they were doing and it had nothing to do with translating feelings to me what we just saw I don't think we're the tick-tock generation what I think they take situations in their life and they use them to highlight and didn't reach out to the people that can experience it that can feel them and I mean this is not for us for you hell yes she's making other tick toddlers look lazy this is the second time in as many weeks that she is crashed mommy and daddy's car according to an article that I read if this happened to a Boomer they'd probably take a week off of work and make 115 status updates on Facebook about my lower back is killing me Israelis set me back then you got 16 year-old Katie over here not ten seconds after that car stopped rolling on the pavement she's back to work you don't teach work ethic like that you're born with I'm not defending these girls but I'll just be death I just cheated death my car's flipped upside down so just think we've done all the stories about the people who have died at the Grand Canyon's trying to take selfies they would love to be tik-tok enough to falling off of a cliff right now so what this is this is a younger person things finally Americans lots of lettuce you know I didn't know taking a tik-tok after you got in a bad accident was an American thing but this is why I love YouTube because I'm learning something all the time so I'll move the criticism these girls had the brass to say you know what screw everybody else let's keep this train moving so they made a follow up tick-tock where they jokingly made light of the accident from the previous I mean they're just so brave believe it or not these teams are recording the aftermath of a bad car accident that happened only moments earlier you can see the cracked windshields and then they got camera ready making a video that they posted on the popular tik-tok app lip syncing while waiting for police what this shows is where young people have their priorities yes that they thought it was more of a priority to make a video the two 16 year olds Katy Cornett II and Marissa Portis our high school cheerleaders just outside Pittsburgh the video is generating some serious social media backlash seriously what's wrong with people goes this comment this is sad how people will do literally anything to get just a few minutes of exposure posted another Katie and Marissa are unfazed by the negative reaction making another video mocking it people keep dumping on these girls without giving them a chance to explain themselves right fortunately Inside Edition was kind enough to get Katie on the hook to share her side of the story to help put these boomers minds at ease what on earth were you thinking making this diptych video once we figured out like each of us were okay we knew people called the police we knew that people are on their way did you really though I'm not buying it the car we were not able to get out of yet and instead of us freaking out and worrying I pulled out my phone went on tik-tok just picked a song and I thought they were just keeping themselves entertained listen if you're stuck in a car that's on its side and you're hanging by the seatbelt and maybe you're in shock and you're not sure if you really hurry of broken bones because you're still traumatized from rolling the car over two times it's probably super boring right so pull out tick-tock make a fun video everything's good everybody's good and when you saw the reaction of people criticizing you for making the silly video during a serious accident how do you react to that I understand a ton where they're coming from because who does make a tick-tock ones they just nobody that's who and that's why it went viral and that's why Zayn from the vlog squad now knows who I am so hold this elevators like we cope with our problems by humor and laughing and so we entertained ourselves and tried to get our minds off of what just happened yeah I'm not buying the whole coke thing I mean if you spend any time on the for you page on tick-tock the mindset there there's just people begging each other to go viral like oh I got detention for this don't let this flop I got fired for this don't let it flop make this go viral make my teacher go viral make this go viral I did this for that so there's this mindset now I think with kids it kind of permeates high schools in the tic-tock culture that leads to things like this where you get in a very serious situation in an accident and instead of your first thought being like oh man let's relax and figure out how we can get out of this situation safe and okay your first thought is let's make this go viral there was not much we could do to make anything better so that's what we decided to do she told BuzzFeed literally the week before I got into a small car accident I was freaking out and crying and that was not the best way to cope with anything so the accident she got into only a week before she did the freak out and crying route and she was like you know what that was no fun so this time let's go the tic-tock route I but it's gonna be way cooler and honestly if help is on the way and you're stuck in the car hanging by the seatbelt you want to take a little tick-tock to have some fun with your friends I got no problem with that on the real but the thing I got a problem with is why you're getting into so many accidents you're not trying to tell me that the phone nothing to do with why you got into the accident in the first place distracted driving is killing tons of people every year and it's not just teenagers although their lack of driving experience coupled with a cellphone and them giggling with their friends might amplify things a bit but everybody's guilty cellphones are an appendage down as much as we like to tell ourselves that we're not gonna use it on the road we're all guilty from time to time and pulling it up or getting a notification and checking what that was or changing a song and uh it's uh it's not a safe time to be on the roads man you lose focus for even a split second at the wrong time and it can be game over just like that so I understand why some people might take offense to it if they had lost someone in a car accident or mostly it's just like gives you the sense of hopelessness I see the humor in it but usually the humor comes from like just the soul-crushing like well this is where we're at now but it's more of like a window into into into society at large the WorldStarHipHop off' occasion of our culture is in full swing and it's only getting worse so things like human decency and lending a helping hand they're intervening when someone's in need those things are being usurped now by this innate need or this desire for people to just stand around and do this instead now to capture it for themselves instead of doing something about it they just want to capture it because you could then maybe use that footage to get attention for yourself you could upload it and have a viral tweet on Twitter which you could then link your Instagram to in a reply and maybe cop a few follows so that's where we're at now social media has turned us into cloud hungry hyenas and I shed a single tear once in a while when I think about it but there's not really anything to do this is just kind of the way society has progressed and all you and I can do is hope the next time we're on the subway and we see some helpless dude getting the piss peed out of them maybe we intervene instead of pulling out our phone so thank you so much for coming to my TED talk about distracted driving there is one exception however if you are driving you are still allowed to like my YouTube videos which you can do right now if you're watching this while you're driving go ahead and just hip thrusts that keep your eyes on the road but take the phone and just slam it with your hips get that flip the light blue and you can even subscribe if you'd like if you're new and you haven't subscribed before tomato mafia comm we got new merch let me do the slide with me if you feel like 550 and a fasting you can get high with me that's a deal alright guys I've been scooping these things up like crazy I appreciate all the support still plenty of time to get your hands on one if you haven't already I hope you never end up in a rollover car accident but if you do I hope that this video has equipped you with the knowledge and the know-how of exactly what to do to go viral by taking a tik-tok directly afterwards thanks for watching we'll see in the next video peace I need some of the flock of yous
