How to Update Proxmox VE (No subscription required)

if you're running a proxmox server chances are it needs to be updated updating proxmox server in the past has been pretty scary but it's pretty easy now you can do most of this with a few simple commands and it's good practice to keep it up-to-date for both security and talked updates from proxmox hey welcome back so on techno Tim and today I'm going to show you how to keep proxmox up-to-date so let's hop right in and update proxmox so the first thing you're gonna do is log in to your server so if you look at your server you want to make note of the version you're running I'm running 6.1 - 3 I know that there are some proxmox updates out there and well one update proxmox e they're using a terminal and SS aging in or using the shell from the web GUI so here's how to use this shell you go to your server go to shell this will launch a shell so you can terminal in and run these commands however I'm going to use the terminal and SSH in so I'm going to SSH into my server and then once I'm in I'm gonna check our app two repositories you can do that by going to go to Nano etc' apt sources dot list and on here you can see I just have security updates but if we check here you can see I have the enterprise list now I don't have a subscription for proxmox because I just run this at home so we'll need to add the no subscription repositories let's close out of here let's go back to where we were so we'll need to add them here they have this available on the wiki so I'm just gonna copy and paste it okay so let's paste this in here so again these are the no subscription repositories so you can see the warning that says not for production use I'm using this at home so I'm just gonna use these updates but if you're running in a production environment you might want to consider a subscription so after we have that let's save close out and then we're gonna run app - get update to update our repositories so you can see the warnings about now being able to fetch updates from the enterprise list that's ok because we're using no subscription repositories so next we're gonna run at dist - upgrade and you'll see we have updates available you want to be sure to run dist upgrade and not just upgrade okay it looks like it's done we should probably reboot now reboot okay after reboots let's go back to our proxmox server and you can see here it looks like it updated so we're at 6.1 - 8 so we were at 6.1 - 3 so looks like it updated fine so that's how easy it is to update your proxmox server so if you got a proxmox server and you need to run some updates just follow this guide and you'll be up to date in no time so if you liked this video don't forget to give it a thumbs up and until next time stream on my friends
