[Music] well if you fish for catfish you're gonna need some kind of a catfish rig to deliver the bait and the hook to the catfish in this video I'm going to show you step by step how I tie up the catfish rig that I use the most the santi rig hey folks I'm bitter melon if you watching in my catfishing videos there's one rig that you see me use repeatedly and that is the Santee rig this rig is meant to keep your bait near the bottom it maintains contact with the bottom but there is a cork on it or some type of float that suspends your bait up off the bottom to avoid snags and also provide a better presentation to the catfish alright folks I'm going to show you how I tie up one of my Santee rigs I'm actually out on the water today some of them I pre time and keep them in some storage stuff but a lot of times I just tie them up when I'm out here in the water I've got one of these rig rig wrap I believe they call it a rig pack sixty I keep my stuff in I don't do this a traditional way with the products they make I actually put my individual hooks and components into their little storage boxes these boxes are actually made to store a rig you wrap your leader around here and the fifth glue or whatever this goes in here I actually turn these into storage boxes and I'll tell you why when you have a regular tackle tray and you said it's somewhere in the boat inevitably it's going to get dumped down to the floor and that happens every one of these things gets dumped out and you got a mess just spend hours picking it up so I'll put this stuff into individual boxes I've got different size hooks here that's some 6r it's got my eight bolts in here then I've got pegs I've got sinker slides over here I've got snap swivels and all the components I need an individual storage boxes so it helps when you make a mess what what I'm getting at I'm going to need a few things here one's gonna be a snap swivel some people will use a sinker slide these are the ones from red graph here for the EZ Center products that you can remove from the line I prefer a snap swivel just because you can take it on and off or it stays on the line it doesn't slide that's the reason why someone needs snap swivel I'm gonna need a hook I think on this one probably gonna put six up on their hooks gets more and then I'm gonna need some kind of float I got some different ones here these are some homemade diamond dragon style rattles these are some there's somebody assembly much bigger you can see the size difference this is gonna hold up a bigger bait keep that in mind you need to go with the bigger ones we'll go with one of these I'm a fan of pink not so much because it's just pink and it's cooling it's different it's it seems to perform different I seem to catch fish on them at a higher rate I know that I've run the numbers and that's not necessarily true over time but sometimes it doesn't make a difference I got a feeling that shows up as a certain tone of gray in the water and that's where the actual difference is say and you'll need some kind of scissors or cutters I've got some of these some rig reps on this airmax scissors you need some leader I got some 50-pound Andy here I'm gonna cut me off the piece what to do is on one end I'm tying on a swivel on what I try to do is you see the way the swivel lays there and where you can see it I try to tie on to this end with the leader let my mainline tie on this one you'll see in a second that the snap is where the actual weight goes I'll show you have the weight gets on there I'll time there and all I do is use an improved clinch knot you can find these all over the place basically go through the I like that twist it around four five six times like that okay come back through the hole it makes right there next to the swivel so it's through there now you can pull it tight right there and you'll have a clinch knot and fisherman's knot if you will what I do is pull it back through here like that and then pull that tight butt slide that up so it's up there like that you got that tied on now this rig is not just for drifting or trolling for catfish you can use it while you are anchored and also if you're fishing from the bank this is a very effective catfish rig for keeping your bait near the bottom but suspend it slightly off the bottom some people leave this little tag ins I kept mine off then what you're going to do is put your float you can use a regular this is an Eevee a flat foam float you can use a regular styrofoam peg float peg floats easiest one to show you a lot of times these peg floats will have styrofoam in them you have to always keep a little screwdriver on the boat punch that foam out what you do is easy to run your line through there these have a slit in them which is nice if you want to take them off you get a peg I'm just gonna hold it right there put my hook on again circle hook these are from a hookers terminal tackle and I stay all mine I'm doing a video showing you all these knots I run it through the eye like that the way ask them look the way I do it reason I do it this way is because I can tie a new hook under this leader what happened there get back through it this is basically using the uni knot method come around it like that you've made a loop basically I'll show you what it looks like we just kept making a loop back across then you're gonna wrap back around it is a tie four five six times it's amazing the knot strength you get just with two or three but tight it'll be on to the shank of the hook like that it's just gonna pull it tight boom that's good to go that's good to go you can pull down on this a little bit I will do that just to show you just to make sure you have a good tight knot there but yeah that was good to go I say some people leave that little Taggy end on it I try and line up a little bit pow now you get your rig know when I do is I just my float and you can actually you can use these grab them or if you want say I'm using a peg float I usually keep mine about that far if you look at the entire length this loser there you can see how long it is I keep it about right there and what this will do float that up off the bottom the one thing I have to add is a drift weight you can use pencil floats you can use drifting sinkers that's what I have here these are from bone town catfishing down in South Carolina I've got some links to some of their stuff since I'm anchored up I'm using these pencil weights right there I got these from Dale's tackle got a little thing on the end these are about two ounces I believe what I do is just clicked about Mandy you can use the distance sinker that'll work just fine that's just like these little smaller a little more compact and I really like my drift and say you're drifting sinkers these things are going to cost you more than a pencil weight so if I'm gonna get snagged I'd rather lose one of these but no wood ones and there you go there's the Santee read it set it good to go let's go this is also a rig that you can use with cut bait or with live bait well folks have you made it this far thank you for watching here are a couple more videos that I think you're gonna like I'd watched that one and then that one no dude that one first and then that one that I'm just watching both they're both good [Music]
