hi guys so in today's video we're going to be taking a look at painting this wing and instead of using this we'll be using these [Music] so as we said in the intro we're going to take something a look at something a little bit different today so usually on a channel we're working obviously from a conventional spray gun we're going to be using a base coat that we put through the spray gun we'd use a clear coat that we put through the spray gun and obviously we'd have all the rig role of mixing cups strainers clear coat thinners hardeners all that sort of stuff so today what we're going to do is we're going to take a look at using aerosols to see how we can paint a panel with aerosols instead now i do want to make a part two on this and do a spray gun versus the aerosol can to compare the two i've got two different wings i've got the same color mixed up in base coat here as i've got in this rattle can here now the rattle can i got my local supplier to mix up so this is properly colour matched paint the same as we'd use and this is the sort of thing that i would recommend you using if you're gonna go and say try and paint a panel on your car with a rattle can then we've also got one of the spray max 2k clear coats so these work they've got the popper in the top which you take out you pop into the bottom of the tin you smack the bottom of the tin which releases the hardener into the clear coat that's in the rattle can we then give that a shake up for a few minutes and we'll be clear coating it with that well and then we'll take a bit of a comparison in the next video on what the finish is like from this to a conventional spray gun method and also what it's like to polish and basically the results that we can get out of these instead of the usual way of getting it out of one of these so compared to using obviously a spray setup we're going to have a lot less stuff that we're going to need to do with the rattle can compared to doing it with the spray gun because we're not obviously we look at spray guns all the time but we've got a spray gun we've got an air compressor we've got an air dryer we've got filters on the wall we've got air lines we've got thinners we've got hardeners we've got to clean the gun out we've got all that other stuff that we think about that we're not going to need today so pretty much all we're going to need today is we've got a rattle can of high bill primer which we're just going to use as a little bit of wet on wet which i've already done to the wing we've got the rattle can of base coat so this is proper base coat pre-mixed and we've got a rattle can of 2k clear coat now outside of that the only thing that we really need is we've got a tack cloth we've got a mask because even though this is rattle cans this is still hazardous the same as any product that we use in this industry so we want to make sure that we're wearing a mask and also i'll grab a set of gloves in a second out of the room in the back and we'll put some gloves on so we've already got the panel prepped up this is the panel here so we've got a little bit of wet on wet that we've just put on a couple of the edges that we've rubbed through on this panel and the panel's all been done with a p400 all over and then we've just scotched the edges like we would with any job that we'd normally do in the shop so i'm going to go and get some gloves on i'm going to switch the bead on just because even though this is a look at diy video i still need to be running because we are a business so we need to comply with health and safety so i'm going to get some gloves on i'm going to switch the bead on and i'll join you guys back in a second and we'll take a look at spraying this wing with a rattle can rather than a spray gun so as always prep comes first so we've panel wiped the wing over and now we're just going to give it a good tack cloth off to remove anything loose and any lint or any dust from the wings surface before we start to spray now i did find that this rattle can actually had quite a really nice spray pattern it was very even and quite easy to paint with it did spatter a tiny little bit to start off with but i think that was just where the end of the glove was just touching the spray fan a tiny little bit so i just tightened the glove on my finger and it seemed to do a little bit better in the preceding coats after this first coat now i'm gonna i'm attacking this exactly the same as i would any job i'm just going to go around my edges first to make sure i've got coverage on those and then i went over with a quick first coat and then the coats after that i've gone across those like i would with a spray gun so i've gone as for a semi-wet coat after that and then i've gone through with a couple of dust coats to finish it off but as you can see for what is a rattle can it's actually got quite a really nice big fan on this um so it's quite easy to spray a panel this size with [Music] huh [Music] now as you can probably notice during this footage i'm doing a nice even overlap and i'm painting this exactly the same as a wood explained to any painter to paint a wing with a spray gun i'm trying to go for a nice even overlap a nice even distance from the panel and a nice consistent speed across the panel so get a nice lay down on the color as i'm going across and i'm making sure i'll go all the way off the panel at each edge to make sure that i get full coverage all the way across [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so that's the base coat stage done with the rattle can now the rattle count on it says that the total volume of the rattle can is 375 mil now it's taken the whole can to do the wing but i have to say it has made a good job it went down nice and even there was a decent size spray fan on this particular can so it's given a nice even lay down on the paint so i've put a couple of good wet coats on and then we'll just give it two dust coats over the top just to try and give it a little bit of a drop coat and even out the metallic on the panel but overall i have to say so far i think that's come out quite nice it's reasonably clean did have a little tiny bit of an issue with the can spit in at the start but that seemed to rectify itself and i just tried to keep the nozzle clean in between coats so what i'm going to do now is we're going to take a look at 2k clear can so this is the 2k play cam now in the top they have this little red bit which you take out you pop into the bottom you shake it up for a few minutes and that introduces the hardener into the clear coat so then we can use a 2k clear coat but from our battle cam to clear cut the wing so i'm going to get the camera set up again we'll pop the bottom on this give it a shake up and then put some clear down and see how the clear stage goes so before we go any further in today's video we've had someone pop down with us today do you want to say hello hi guys i'm rob from dreadfx custom paint so if you guys remember a while back we did this skateboard deck on the channel and it's been sat on the shelf for quite a while now me and rob spoke about this quite a while ago and rob do you want to explain to them what we chat about and what we're going to do with this deck well as you can see tony's finished this deck off it's in a candy green metallic i'm going to flat this back and do a bit of artwork drop his logo on there and then we can do a giveaway on his channel so when this comes back i'll announce on the channel and pop it in a little bit video we'll also get see if we can get a little bit of footage from rob um and link to his channel where he does the airbrush work on it and then we'll do a little bit of a joint giveaway for you guys on the deck [Music] [Applause] [Music] so we've got the 2k clear coat can all activated that's all ready to go so we're going to again attack this like we would with a spray gun first i'm just going to go around and give the edges a nice even coat so we don't miss any of those then we're gonna go across and do the main face of the panel now if you notice in the footage if you look very closely as i'm spraying this wing the fan on this is very very top and bottom heavy so there comes the limitations when you're talking about rattle cans to spray guns this hasn't got an even fan to it but we did get quite good results from using this can and it dried quite nicely but i'll explain a little bit more later in the video about that so i've gone around on all the edges and i attacked this first coat with a nice sort of slow pass and a 50 overlap on the second coat and then increase the overlap up to about 60 to 70 percent just to try and get it a little bit wetter and a little bit heavier and i'll leave you guys now to have a little bit of a watch of this coat on this wing [Music] so [Music] so we're a little bit further on in the day now and we'll put this through a short bake or if you're doing this at home you can leave this overnight now overall it's not too bad really for something that's come out of a rattle can yes it could be better but at the end of the day you know you're gonna have the limitations of a rattle cam to deal with when you're doing a job like this so as a bit of an experiment what i'm going to do now just to see just how nice we can get this and how the clear also holds up to our polish is we're going to give this the standard wet flat and polish that we would do if we did a normal car and see how this looks and just how nice we can get this looking after we've given it a flat polish [Music] [Music] things [Music] [Music] i cannot move [Music] is [Music] [Music] so we've got this old p3000 wet flat now and then we've just run over it with a 3000 tries out the same as we would any other job in the shop now as far as it goes it seems to have all wet flat nicely there's no issues it didn't still feel soft like i was expecting it to with a rattle can so we'll get the polisher out now and we'll just see how this polishes up and then take a little look at the finished product that we've managed to do with these rattle cans [Music] me [Music] oh [Music] so that's the polishing stage now finished on this we've done a p2000 p3000 then we use the manzoner heavy cut 400 to give it a cut with a da polisher and i have to say overall now that is looking like a very very nice wing it's got a really nice finish to it it's got a really nice gloss level on it and as far as you know a finished job it's really nice you can't really fault where it is at now my biggest issue with this would be obviously how long a rattle can base coat and clear coat is going to last whether it's going to die back that sort of thing it's ideal if someone wants to have a bit of a play at home and do a little diy touch-up or a little diy panel but i wouldn't recommend using something like this to do a full paint or even try and do a full panel that you really want to last on your car because although it is quite an expensive product for the amount of material that you get in these two 2k clear coats in a rattle can it's just the longevity of it and the quality of it which would put me off now i hope you've enjoyed this video guys i will do a little part two on this to do a spray gun versus a rattle cam video so you guys can get a bit of an idea of the cost difference and everything that we'll go into obviously the two different ways of doing it and the amount of equipment it takes to do it one way like the professional way which we would normally do it compared to doing it the diy way which you guys could do at home quite easily so that's it for me for today guys and i'll see you again soon bye for now [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
