hey guys welcome back to my channel so today i am finally going to show you guys how i design my stickers from start to finish including how i get this little white border around all of my stickers so if you're interested in learning how i do that keep watching [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay guys so i'm going to design a sticker for you guys from start to finish granted it's not going to be a super elaborate detailed sticker it's going to be a super simple one solely because i could literally draw for hours and i'm sure you guys don't want to sit here and watch me draw all day or maybe you do let me know in the comments and maybe i'll do like a hyper lapsed video of me designing a super detailed sticker but for now i'm just showing you some of the basic things that you can do with procreate and how i create my white border around all of my stickers this is one of my stickers and you should notice that i have a white border around the entire sticker so this is probably my most asked question on my sticker video that i already have is how i get the white border so i'm going to show you guys how i designed my sticker from start to finish how i put that white border on and not only am i going to show you how i do this white border but i'm going to show you two different ways that you can get this white border and you can pick or choose whichever one you like the best so without further ado let's get started i'm doing this in an app called procreate it was only ten dollars it was probably one of the best investments that i could have made for my small business because i use procreate to design all of my stickers to design all of my t-shirt designs so as you can see here i have a ton of stuff on here guys like all my stickers i've even created um my little flyers the that go out whenever someone orders something on here i've literally done everything on here definitely something to check out i definitely recommend that but i've seen a lot of other people use like adobe illustrator and all of those so let's get started on this sticker so the first thing that i do whenever i'm doing a sticker is depending on what shape the sticker is going to be is the size that i'll choose my canvas so i'm just doing a super small sticker it doesn't need to be wide or long or anything so i just chose a square canvas and this is where you go for all of your brushes and because this design is going to be super simple i'm probably going to use this hard airbrush the entire time so but this is where you would go to choose all of your different brushes that you're using to draw your sticker but like i said because i'm doing such a simple design today i'm probably only going to be using this hard airbrush the entire time so with that being said let's get started so as you can see here i have my hard airbrush selected so there it is and over here you can change your thickness of your brush and it kind of shows you like a little guide and then over here it can change the brush opacity so do i want to be able to see through it or if i turn it up it's completely solid so good starting point to know so i'm going to turn this down and i have been seeing all these like little i don't know we wouldn't call like boho rainbows everywhere and i love them i think they're so cute and my daughter is obsessed with like anything rainbows so i'm gonna make her some rainbow stickers so that she can put all over her like school supplies like her binder or whatever else she wants so um her favorite colors are like pink and gold and stuff so i'm probably going to incorporate some of that in here before i do that you know what i want to do i want to create some guidelines so over here where you see these little squares these are your layers so anytime i'm doing a different layer i can go over here and add one so this will be handy later whenever we are doing our white outline so i have my first layer here and i'm gonna create my guides so i want my rainbows to kind of end at the same spot so to make the straight line i draw and i hold it and it will create a straight line for me and then i want to create a middle point so that i know kind of where my arches need to be i think my favorite little shortcut on procreate is that if you just double tap with two fingers it will erase what you just did and if you tap with three fingers it will redo what you just did so i love that feature i think it's my favorite i've like caught myself um doing that on like other apps like on my phone or on my ipad i'll like double click i'm like why didn't it erase what i just did that'd be so handy okay so now we're ready to do that so because this is just my guideline i'm going to leave this as a separate layer so i'm going to create a layer over here and now i'm ready to start my rainbow as soon as i turn my brush back up what are you doing erica meow i don't like that i'm like kind of a perfectionist like even if this is a simple design so no judgment guys okay and i want these to be like dashes so same thing with your eraser you can change the thickness of it and the opacity another thing that is handy is you can turn your canvas without picking up your ipad so with like two fingers you just kind of drag it around to how you want it okay so there is our little rainbow so now i'm going to get rid of that guideline that i originally created this black line so i'm just going to come over here to my first layer select it and you can either select it and over here you can see all the different things that you can do i can either clear it if i want to just reuse this layer or the easiest thing to do would either be to unview it which you just uncheck the layer over here and it will make it disappear or if you just swipe left you can hit delete so that's what we're going to do so now i'm going to add some more details in here so i'm going to create a new layer just in case i don't like some things you can always merge layers later when you're satisfied with it so i'm going to just do some quick little adjustments just to kind of give it some like fun detail okay so like i said guys this is just a rough draft please don't judge my my quick uh drawing skills first i'm going to come over here and merge these layers so i don't lose all my details so to merge a layer you just take your two fingers and swipe them together and that just merged my two layers so it's now it's one whole piece so the two different ways you can outline your sticker the first way that i learned before i started like digging into procreate and like seeing all it can do is i would delete my background so it hides the background color and you can change this to any color that you want but i would just take away my background so as you can see here there's my entire sticker so i would always create a layer drag this layer underneath my rainbow here my sticker design so that it is underneath the sticker and it's not on top of it so the first thing that i would do is go and make sure that my hard brush was selected i would always go to white or if you want like a black i do have some stickers that have like a black outline around them you could do whatever color you wanted but the majority of my stickers are all white outlines so the first way i learned was i would turn up my airbrush like as far as it will go and then i would shrink this down a little bit so just so it's a little bit easier to work with and then we're gonna go back to this layer and we're on my airbrush so then i would just color in the background of this sticker so you guys see how it's like right behind my design so this is probably one of the easier ways and it's how i see a lot of other people that design their own stickers outlining their stickers they just once you like get better at it and you do it a couple times it comes a little bit more easier like i'm trying to like rush this so you guys aren't like sitting here watching me all day do this um but you just take your airbrush and you just kind of go around and outline it like so obviously it wouldn't be like bumpy i would go around and like make all this perfect i'd probably like get my eraser tool out and like get it to where it was like perfectly even on all the sides but i'm not doing that because i'm just showing you guys the basics okay so there is the basic way that you can outline your sticker so now it's outlined it's ready to go if i was ready to export this i would come over to my layers merge the layers and then export it as a whole design and i always export as a png so that it comes up like whenever i'm uploading it to my cricut to cut out it will be a png background so it will only upload what you see right here um but i'm obviously gonna show you the other way that you can outline your sticker so the second way that you can outline sticker perfectly every time and it's more in depth so you may prefer to do it the other way because it's easier but this way will kind of save you a lot of time it's just more steps that you kind of have to remember and the more you do it it'll just come second hand to you so i start by taking my design swiping left and then i always hit duplicate so now i'm going to click on this and hit alpha lock then i add another layer and then here i'm going to click it and i'm going to hit clipping mask and notice that i still have my hard air brush selected and white is the color that i'm going for because i want a white background so whatever background color you want that's the color you're going to have selected here so you'll notice that with a clipping mask it's going to color what i have on my alpha lock so i have this little rainbow design as my alpha lock and the clipping mask is selected so that it's only going to color in notice how it wasn't like just a huge scribble which is the motion that i just did it's only coloring in what i have selected here which is what i did so now i take that and i merge that clipping mask with that alpha lock so now i have a regular rainbow and a white rainbow as you can see here so with this still being selected click it uncheck alpha lock so now that we can edit this so now i'm going to come over here to my little magic wand icon and there is a um a bunch of different options where you can change your image i'm going to hit this gaussian blur i don't know if i'm even saying that right but and you can either choose to do it with your pencil yourself or the whole layer we're doing this entire white rainbow layer so i'm going to hit layer and as you can see gaussian blur slide to adjust so you just take your pencil and you can you see how it's adjusting it and it's blurring it so i want to blur it to where i can see where it's blurred is where my outline will be so that's about where i want it um you can go more or less as you see fit but that's what i'm going to do so now i'm going to hit my little selector tool it's this little s ribbon up here and then i'm going to make sure that it's on automatic and i'm going to click add and then what you're going to do same thing like you did with the gaussian blur you're going to take your pencil and you're going to slide so you see how because i have white selected up here as my color i can slide my pencil and you can see that it is creating my outline depending on where i drag it so i obviously want to fill in this rainbow but you see how it gets more pixelated the more you go so i'm going to keep it like this because down here i don't like how this is outlined but i can fix that super easily but at least this is a perfect curve i won't have to touch that at all whereas with the other one i would have had to keep going around and around and around with my brush and erasing whereas here i just have to do a straight line or i can leave it like this so now we have this outline so now all you have to do is drag this layer underneath your rainbow and boom there it is so i could leave this outline like this or since i want to have it be like a straight line i'm just going to take my brush i'm going to start over here where my corners at and i'm just going to drag it across the bottom and hold it and it's going to create a straight line you see how it kind of snapped in place there so now we have a perfectly straight line so now i'm going to change this background color to black so you can see it perfectly and i'm going to go ahead and merge these two layers because this is where i want my sticker outlined and now we can adjust our sticker to the size of the screen or tilt it or whatever we need to do so there is our sticker and those are the two ways that you can outline your sticker with a white border or whatever color you want so once you're ready to export you will make your background disappear by unchecking it so that's not visible and then we're going to hit this little wrench tool and hit share and i always export it as a png and then i will upload it to qriket right from my ipad which makes it super handy um another thing that you can do like if you post a lot of stuff to social media like with my small business when i first started doing stickers i posted a lot of my sticker designs like on my instagram story or my instagram feed or even on my tick tocks but if you go to video and as long as this is checked on which it should automatically be checked on unless you went in and changed your settings time lapse recording so then i can have a time lapse replay of me drawing this entire thing and it's in like hyperlapse motion so that i can go and post this on my story if i wanted to and someone could see the work that goes into designing a sticker so i think that future is really really cool um especially for like social media and stuff so there you have it i hope you guys learned how to design a sticker from start to finish and i showed you guys a trick or two on how to get these outlines around your sticker more easily alright guys so hopefully you learned something from my video today so as always if you have any questions just drop a comment below i'll be more than happy to answer those questions for you if you like this video
