what's going on guys I'm bill and welcome to bill Z out - today I'm gonna show you guys how to fix a leaking or running toilet let's do this alright guys so the first thing we need to do is shut off the water so if we have a look at the side of the toilet there'll be a little valve there and you just have to turn that over to the right and that'll shut off your water completely that'll stop the system from filling up with water and next thing we need to do is actually flush out any of the water that's left over in the system so just to flush that theon that'll drain out all the water that's inside and then we can get started on fixing the problem so once all the water is flushed out we've removed that cap the next thing we want to have a look at is the actual flushing mechanism so that flushing mechanism that is in the middle is what we're looking at next so on the bottom of that is a little plunger or usually rubber seals or could be even a little plug depending on the style of system that you have the concept is exactly the same regardless of the style so what we're looking at here is to say why the water is still leaking into the toilet so what we're gonna do is remove that mechanism of the flushing mechanism from the middle in this case here it's made out of plastic so you have to be very careful it could be brittle because it's been in there for a long time we don't want to break anything and cause more problems than what we initially started with in this case here we've got two little clips on the front that I'm just gonna simply undo and then we're gonna slide up the back section from there once that's out then we can have a look at the bottom where it actually seals up the the system and prevents the water from flushing in and if we have a look on the bottom there you can say that there's a black rubber seal that black rubber seal is completely deteriorated so what we have to do is actually replace that black rubber seal so to replace a black rubber seal you've got a few different options you can go to the local hardware store if you know the brand and make of your toilet and cistern however in most cases people don't know and you won't be able to actually pre buy these seals so what you can do in that case is remove the rubber seal take it into your local hardware store match it up at the store itself and then you can take that home and reinstall it so in my case I've got a universal kind of fitting one where I've got two different seals in there and what I'm gonna do is simply remove the old seal and then match it up with the new seals that I've got and see which one is the best fit so I've got a black one and a grey one the coloring doesn't make much of a difference we just want to make sure that the diameter is the same and also the inside diameter that actually slips over that little plunger section down the bottom so in my case the gray one is the one that we're going to go with and all you have to do is just simply stretch out over the little fitting down the bottom and then you're ready to go so to reinstall it you simply do everything you've just done in Reverse just slotted straight down the back slots first and then we want to clip in that front section in place once that's done what we're going to do is turn the water back on so switch it back over to the left to loosen up the tap let that fill up completely and then we're going to check and see if the toilet is still running with water then what we're gonna do after that is flush the toilet and then we're gonna make sure that it actually seals in once again once that's done guys that is how you stop a leaking toilet and get that sorted hopefully you guys have enjoyed the video if there's anything else you guys want to learn how to do in or around your house put it in the comment section below and I'll be happy to show you guys as always like comment and subscribe until next time I'm bill thanks for watching Bill's out to
