in Australia every year Millions upon millions of water is lost through leaky systems and Taps it's a good idea to go into your bathroom at night and just check if there's any water being less particularly uh when nobody's used the toilet for maybe a half an hour an hour and you listen to the toilet and you can hear this little little hiss this one's been leaking and it doesn't get better the summit some reason this means that the water is continually flowing and that happens 24 7. it's a lot of water over the year so what to do call it a plumber plumber's quite charging 100 an hour these days and uh it's an expensive thing to have to bring in somebody so this is what we need to do the offending part is lift up the toilet it's usually because there are two things we can do to try and fix this the first thing is we can replace the valve which I'm going to do now the second is to replace the whole mechanism okay to replace the valve it's quite simple there's this little pin which we remove and that uh to start off with don't forget switch the water off down the bottom here to stop the water flowing you don't really need to flush the unit to this we can just take off the photo easy then we need to release this white plastic cap now if you may found that it's very tight in which case you need some grips it can be a bit daunting I found I was worried whether I would break the thing to start off with but yeah you can just release it and we take this cap off we then get down to this mechanism I'd merely pull this part off take out this little thing and there that is the offending little washer in there you can either I guess you can turn it over or you can put a new one so here's a replacement unit this is a German one full expensive 35 dollars at the local hardware I've used another one but I've got four of these dual flush coromas that they're about 10 years old I replaced two of the units after five years after Indus problems and I wished I would have put four in at the same time get rid of the old units with the flow time they don't work too good so the first thing we need to do to replace it is first is in this case we need to flash the whole toilet so we're drain all the water out of it it's good to have a little Basin that I can put on the floor to catch any water that's going to come out when I release the so to get this out you've got to get under here and take the pipes off and also there's a bolt at the bottom okay so to replace the unit it's easiest actually to take the whole toilet seat off to start off with in this case and there's two things I'll need to replace first I need to remove the water hose you're probably going to need there's a plastic nut here I'm probably gonna need some some grips or something bigger than a shifting spanner to remove so here is the unit I've taken out this is the original caroma unit probably the hardest bit just taking this this little plastic nut off you just uh and you just got to keep at it but it's a good idea to take the toilet seat off can make things easier and here I've got the replacement German unit that I'm going to put in um worry about it it is a good idea at the stage because everything's off is to give the give everything a clean get all the muck out the system it never does any good okay here I am now I've inserted the the replacement device reconnected the pipe down below puts the water on and the water has come up to the last level the only thing you can do is just adjust the height of the water it's sort of a system where you buy by by rotating this I can adjust it up and down all I've got to do now is put the covers back on and that is the end of leaking systems for the next so there it is in the story no more leaking toilet well perhaps there's another component in here that can that can leak which is the flush valve at the bottom here this is the valve that releases water when I press the button it's not an easy thing to replace and I made another video so just look at my other video on how to replace a caroma dual flush valve
