hey guys what's going on it's Kyle from make April films and welcome to this brand new video where I'm going to show you how to create a nice 3d logo inside of the brand new motion 5.2 update which includes 3d text so if you're interested in creating a 3d logo stick around as I'll show you how to create all right so in order to create this 3d logo all you'll need to have is motion version 5.2 which is their latest version at this point in time so this is what the logo will look like we'll have a 3d Apple logo right in the center and we'll have a simple camera sweep that shows off the various reflections so let me show you how this is created all right so to create this 3d logo ill involve three steps first creating the 3d text itself to stylizing the text and three adding the camera animation so it's pretty simple so let's begin so first I'm starting off with opening up motion itself and going to the blank and going to motion project and over here the settings I'm going to use our broadcast HD 1080 thirty frames per second in a duration of ten seconds so when you have that all set up just press open alright so motion takes a little while to open up but when it's opened let us begin alright so motion has opened up and now let's configure some settings so first let's go to the view percent and let's go fit to screen so we can see our whole canvas area and now that we're set up let's go to the group that has been created for us and let's add the 3d text so press and hold on the text tool and go down to 3d text unlike the previous tutorial where we where we dealt with replicators we're going to use this cool 3d text option so let's create the 3d text so you can very easily just type in some text to have that text 3d but we want to make a logo so what you want to do is you want to download a font on dafont.com which includes various logos so I'll leave a link in the description for you to go download this but when you have it installed you might need to close out motion and reopen it so the font can be included in your font library so when your font is added let's go to the inspector and make sure we're selecting our fonts right there and when we had that selected let's let us create the 3d Apple logo so if we want to go look up the logo that we want to create for instance the 3d Apple logo let us navigate in this directory we can see that it is that it is a capital y all right so let's go down to the text with our newly added file installed and let's just type in a capital Y to get that 3d Apple logo right off the bat is just a little small so let's increase the size by going to the font size and just using these arrows to scale it up and there we go that looks about the size that we would like let's go to our properties unless you Center this up so on the X put it to 0 and the Y go to 0 and our rotation we might need to put that to 0 as well but that's just set up very nicely Forrest and then we can Center it by clicking on the logo itself and just lining it up with the handy little grids here all right so now it's time to stylize our Apple logo and I'll take place in part two all right so let's actually stylize this text so making sure our Apple logo is selected let's just make ourselves organized by renaming this group to 3d text 3d text there we go press Enter or return and there we go all right so to see our changes being applied let's add a camera so pressing on create a camera let's switch the environment to 3d and let's use the tools up here to position our camera so we can see the changes being applied so let's go to our orbit camera tool and let's just orbit the camera around just like that all right that looks really nice okay so let's click on our Apple logo and let's go to the appearance and let's just increase the depth of the logo itself so I'm going to change it to about 50 since that looks about right all right so the depth has been applied and it is very fast in fluid too since the update included that as well all right so it looks a little plain right now so let's add some cool effects to it so leave our depth direction set at centered our weight the same the weight is just the weight of the 3d text so you can change that if you so desire let's just undo that and let's go to our front edge and we can change all of these settings so this is pretty cool as you can customize it to your liking but for instance I'm going to use this concave front edge and then we can change some settings under this drop-down so let's go to our weight let's just increase the weight of this um of this front edge you can also just drag up to increase it as well and let's also go to the depth and increase that as well alright that looks pretty nice you can always just can you can also just change these to your liking but you can follow along if you just want to have the same result that I'm having alright so the back edge I'm just going to leave that square because we're not really going to have the camera go behind the text but if you want to change that feel free to I'm just going to leave that square and you can also mess around with the inside corners but let's just orbit our camera back to where we had it alright so that looks pretty sweet so now let's configure our lighting our materials and our environment in shadows so let's just turn on self shadows it just adds to the effect as a whole and let's go to our lighting style and change it to backlit so pressing on that we can see the virtual light has been added and it's coming at the back side of the text to add a pretty cool effect you can also change that depending on your preference alright so the text just looks a little plain right now so let's change some materials so you can change the whole material to the text if you want to by just changing the all phases option so you can have it be a unique effect where all the faces are the same material or you can go to multiple and change each face which I prefer so let's go to our front and let's add a very reflective material so as I said in the intro I want to make this kind of like a gold Apple logo so let's go to our metal option and go to gold and go to the front edge and let's go to a chrome and let's go to a side of gold and a back edge of chrome and a back of gold again so you might be wondering to yourself why am I making the edges chrome well it just adds kind of a cool effect I'll show you when we get to the environments as well so that looks pretty nice so now just to configure our environment let's go to our camera and go to our properties and just zero out all of our position in rotation so we can get right at the front face of our text again so just like that zero out all of these values we can see were right back at the front of the text all right so now it's time to configure our environment so go back to text and appearance and let's go to the environment and make sure that's checked on right now it's set to a fields and you can kind of see the field being reflected but we can have we have all these options to mess around with so if we change to colorful you can see that's adding a really cool effect making the Apple logo kind of more in a red and blue environment but I'm just going to leave it to probably something like squares because I'll show you in a second what kind of effect that adds so to move your environment around and get some various shadows and reflections let's go to our rotation and change the x y&z rotation so just changing these to your preference it all depends on what kind of effect you're going for so I'm just going to rotate these around until I get the effects that I think looks pretty nice we can also mess around at the intensity in the contrast and saturation but let's just configure this a little bit more until you get the effect that we're looking for the squares might not be doing it so you can also change your environment as you see fit so that looks about right let's just change this around a little bit more and we're getting there let's just see that looks pretty nice and we could just drop down the intensity to lower that environment so I think that looks really cool so now before we wrap up this tutorial it's time to animate our camera so we can see all the various reflections on this cool 3d logo all right so now it's time to animate the camera so what we want to do is we can either add keyframes ourselves or we can add the pre built-in effects so make sure we're pressed on the camera let's make sure we're clicking on the behaviors and let's navigate to the camera option let's just go to this sweep effect so these are pre built-in animations which I find pretty nice so what we want to do is in the beginning all you go all you need to do is go to the inspector go to our camera and then we can change our sweep effects right here so for instance navigate to the beginning of your timeline and go to your start and we can change where we want this text animation of this camera animation to start so I think right there would be a be a great place to start and if we go to the end we can go to our end and change where we want that to end so I think that looks pretty nice right there cool and also if we want to smooth out our keyframes all you need to do is go to our speed and just press ease both you can also mess around with the axis as well so if you want to tilt X or roll Z you can feel free to change those up so I'm feeling like I want to add another camera animation so let's just add another one by going over here to the behaviors camera and sweep so go to our sweep one and let's change that to a tilt X so at the beginning let's tilt this up just like this and at the end we want it to be somewhere this so down a little bit so we can see that both of these sweeps are being applied so it just crosses the Apple logo and it looks really nice and elegant so that's basically how to make a 3d logo inside of motion five and they made it really easy in this brand new 5.2 update so also if you want to change out the logo just feel free to navigate to the link in the description and see if their library right here so for instance if we wanted to have a Windows logo all you need to do is go to our text and go to our format and change that to a lowercase Y we can see we have a nice-looking windows logo animation as well so it's totally up to you to what you want to create and it's basically limitless to what you can do that's what I really like about motion 5 so feel free to go crazy with this change out the environment so you can change out the appearance and even go to a like the colorful one and you can see that has a brand new look and feel to it and just feel free to mess around that's kind of what the fun part is to creating an intro so going back you can see that it's really easy and really powerful to create these effects alright thank you guys so much for watching this video where I showed you how to create a 3d logo inside of motion 5.2 down below in the comment section let me know if you have any other questions or any other tutorial requests that you'd like to see in the future once again thank you guys so much for watching this video and have a great rest of your day and I'll see you in the next video
