all right guys so this is the original brick and mortar and you can see that it is very much deteriorated and my goal was to just make this wall paintable so i can sort of freshen it up and make it match down here which was a really well done job by the original mason who did this stucco so we're just going for a match and it'll look good and so the tools that we're going to need a drill a mixing bit nice bucket to mix a trowel a bristle brush a mason's brush and a nice trowel as well as a spray bottle and we're going to need a work light and a gfi that's what i prefer as well as a shop vac here's the mortar and stucco mix type s 60 pounds and you can read the extra information here but this is what we're gonna want for this specific project it's also helpful if you have a hose my basement had this hose connection but after filming this i realized that it actually was too leaky and i didn't end up using it but that's very convenient to wet the wall before you do this project all right so here we go i'm using the bristle brush to break up the bits of mortar and brick that are there just so the stucco will mix better you want to use a spray bottle for this or even a hose and just mist it that'd be very helpful i'm wearing an n95 in this and that is something you certainly want to wear while doing a project like this now that the wall is prepped i'm getting the mortar mix ready and you just kind of mix it as you go it doesn't have to be anything scientific you don't want to overthink it or reinvent the wheel just get it to a nice soupy substance so here's the finished product we are getting it nice and soupy until it falls off the trowel and that should be good enough for this project nothing crazy here just mixing it up and spread it as we go and here we go spreading it with the square trowel we want to make sure we're starting from the bottom up work our way up that'll make your life much easier and we're just getting all those thick spots spreading it and towards the end of this once i get the majority of my mix spread onto the wall i'm going to go over this all with a mason's brush and get it in those fine cracks all right so this is one mix of the mortar spread turned out pretty good this clearly is not the finished product but this is just a rough in essentially did a little bit of blending here there's a little bit of crack there and just sort of blended with that mason's brush into the existing stucco and so this is the second half finished i didn't get a time lapse of this but i added a little bit down here as well um so now the entire wall is covered and now it's paintable like i said that is all i had in mind was just to get this wall paintable with a thin skim coat of stucco and so it looks really good and i'm really happy the way this turned out i ended up spreading it with my hands with some latex gloves on to get this upper half to match and it looks really good i'm very satisfied with it all and so now this wall is going to be paintable and it'll look like it was never this old exposed brick and mortar so thanks for watching guys [Music]
