in this video i'm going to show you how to stop water leaks in your basement with hydraulic cement and we're going to do it right now [Music] so we're in my basement and i'm getting ready to expand my workshop so i've opened up this area gotten rid of some stuff and one of the steps that i'm going to be taking is painting all this nastiness and before i do that i want to stop any water infiltration that i have and in the corner here i've been getting a little bit of water not a ton but enough to be annoying and i want to stop it and i figured i'd make a video and this video will work for bigger leaks than this but this will show you how to fix small cracks uh and even sometimes a little larger ones and stop water from coming in your basement so here we go so this is what i'm going to be using quick crete water stop cement hydraulic water stop cement says stops active water leaks in three to five minutes and i have used this stuff a ton of times and it's awesome typically it comes in a bag in a bucket like this it repairs walls swimming pools fountains and seals around pipes so it's some pretty serious stuff you always want to read the instructions now it does recommend on the back here to if it's a small small crack to open it up and to kind of have the shape like this square is good but any triangular shape like that can be tough because it might not adhere that well and just fall right out of the out of the crack i really don't want to chip out in the corner here that's mostly where this is going to be so i'm just going to leave it as is i'm going to scrape all this and get all the loose debris off and then i'm going to fill at some point they attach something here i'm going to take that nail off and then i got a hole right here that i'm going to fill and fill it up and you can actually if this is currently leaking you can actually mix this stuff up and push it in and it dries really fast so you can actually see it stop the water so don't worry about the area being dry i know a lot of um a lot of this kind of stuff you want it to be dry first before you try applying it but with this stuff it can be wet and it can be actively leaking so let's clean this up and we'll mix up a batch and patch it in okay i'm gonna take a wire brush and i'm just gonna scrape all this nastiness out of here all the old paint you can see the paint's chipping off i'm probably going to end up having to do this for this entire thing when i go to paint it but anything around the cracks you don't want any dirt any debris so first thing scrape it all up and then vacuum all of this up now i can vacuum all this up a couple tips you're going to want to use some gloves some disposable gloves that you can just throw out when you're done this and another tip is only mix as much of this stuff as you need because it does dry or cure really fast so i'm only going to mix up what i think i need i'm just going to grab it and i think maybe a little more than that and be like that is going to be enough all you have to do is add some water when you're ready to mix start with that and then just mix it up okay so that's a little too much so what you can do is temper it oh well i spilled water everywhere so i'm gonna add some more something like that to get the mixture to be a little thicker and that's a pretty good consistency something like that it could be a little more dry than that but like i said this cures really quickly so let's get over to where we need to use this really quick and start putting it in now you're gonna know when this starts to cure because if you actually just hold on to it you can feel it start to get hot and this is already it's only been a couple seconds and this is already curing so before it does you just start to take it and just kind of push it into the crack it doesn't have to be perfect this is a basement and i like to make this if this was actually leaking and this was a bigger crack you might want to mix it a little more dry but this way this stuff will get right into that crack and seal it up nice oh hi spidey spider oh nice spider just push that right in and this one so for any of these flat surfaces you can clean it up with a putty knife make it nice and clean up the excess and then as this stuff cures you can see there's like lines there it'll get a little harder and then you can kind of smooth it out and it'll be able to be shaped so you can have a nice nice looking seal that looks much smoother and then when it dries it'll look something like that no water and i ended up doing a little more up this way and up this way just in case because it was only leaking here but maybe if i plug that up it might find other cracks right along here that might have been the low spot so i'm happy with that i'll wait until it rains before i cover this up with anything even before i paint i want to make sure i'm stopping it with the hydraulic cement before i'm stopping it with the dry lock paint that i'm going to use and uh yeah should be good all right it's been about eight minutes and [Music] just wanted to show you how how this is all dried up um yeah you don't have much time to work with this that's why i said only mix what what you need so that's a really easy repair you can do on your own now if you have a really big crack the foundation's separating and it goes the length of the foundation you might want to find a different product i've seen people use like two-part foam where you drill into the concrete and spray foam in and it works wonders if i ever have the chance i'm definitely going to make a video about that also as a tip this issue could probably be solved by me putting gutters on the front of my house this is the front of the house right here and if i put gutters up it would probably get enough water away from the house where this wouldn't happen so if you have an issue like this that's something to think about so that's it i really appreciate you watching and if you want to check
