hey what's up my name is sam and this i guess is technically the third and final part of a series in which i try my absolute hardest to beat kirby superstar ultra without ever jumping and all things considered we have been doing pretty well there have only been a few spots that seem absolutely impossible and we've only learned more and more as the challenge has gone on if you want to watch the first two parts i'll have some links and cards and whatnot strewn about but why would you even bother cause nothing in those videos is gonna help us now everything we've learned so far in this challenge only applies to kirby and pretty much the only things we even have left to do are sub-games where i'm playing as completely different characters characters with way fewer options way less utility and overall way less promise but who would i be if i didn't at least try it that's right no way button no y button and you better not even think about mixing let's do this [Music] so scratch a little bit of what i said in the beginning there because helper to hero our next sub game to be actually gives us a ton of options at least in regards to what helper character we can be based on the ability to your list that's slowly been evolving for the past two episodes you might expect an instant lock on the fighter helper however i actually went with the plasma dude here usually the fact that this guy literally flies is actually a terrible thing since it makes him way harder to do helper jumps off of him as kirby however since i'm playing as the helper this time it's an absolute no-brainer to pick him because he completely rules out jumping as an option altogether this makes plasma's placement on the tier list a little bit weirder than it already was but like i've already said soon this thing won't matter anyway because after finishing the walk in the park that was helper to hero we move on to the true nightmare this sub game essentially involves just doing everything we already did with kirby but as meta knight who comes with his own set of uh problems meta knight he doesn't have any of the abilities we've seen before in fact he doesn't even have abilities he has exactly one move set which is similar to sword sure it's not the worst it could have been but it's certainly not the best either since all of its options for gaining height are niche at best he has flaps like wing which is a very good ability but using them requires the jump button so that's not really an option for us aside from those things he also has four extra potentially useful abilities controlled by the touchscreen although one just heals another is just a speed boost and tornadoes are nothing more than just big cutscenes making helpers on the other hand that's an extraordinarily good thing to have for as we've seen with kirby being able to bounce off of them with helper jumps is a great source of height but also from our experience throughout the challenge being able to do the bare minimum of what most abilities could do with kirby just isn't enough to cut it for most of these levels and to add to the ever-growing list of sorrows most people watching this video aren't even subscribed to the channel and could have easily missed this video and future uploads as a result isn't that so sad but to top it all off making matters somehow even worse than that the complex spring breeze strat that i masterminded at the very beginning of the challenge doesn't even work for meta knife since he doesn't bounce off the ground like kirby we are truly back to square one and much like the last time i was here i'm stuck thinking if i can't find a way to make it past the first obstacle in a challenge and there's no way the rest of the challenge can be worth it right okay i'm gonna be real for one second it's so hard to act all sad and defeated in this part of my script when in hindsight i know i already got my answer [Music] this is meta boosting by spawning in a helper with the touchscreen during an attack it actually cancels the attack's animation while still retaining the attack's momentum here you can see that cancelling a dash attack can give you a ton of that dash attack speed in the air so given an attack that gives a little bit of vertical momentum like say the second sword swing and the jab combo i can boost myself into the air with a ton of height essentially whenever i want sure i technically have to spend two points every time i do it but that's nothing when farming enemies for as many points as i want is possible in almost any room no i can't fly like i can with fighter and no i technically don't have nearly as many movement options as i would with wing but with meta boosting alongside our classic strats like helper jumping and damage boosting i can safely say that meta knight has exactly what it takes to conquer all the same obstacles that kirby did including some things that kirby didn't have to deal with like these save point rooms in between levels with the door floating in midair for some reason these rooms would be the absolute worst if it weren't for meta boosting now they're not even a problem ah oops i uh i meant not a prop dang it so okay so the timings for these things is actually kind of hard especially since i have to use the touch screen so i just uh just give me a wait wait a second wait what no no no no that that doesn't make any sense why am i just straight up not allowed to use my abilities that doesn't make sense that's not fair that's not right why would that even be a thing there is no other way to gain height as meta knight without using meta boosting there's just no way especially not in a situation like this i can't use this thing on the floor to gain leverage quitting the game and coming back just deletes all my points and although i considered multiplayer player 1 has to be the one to enter doors so there's really nothing i could do even if i could control my helper i really thought i had something special here a cool ultimate technique that would allow me to beat the game with no additional jumps but i want to be frank there's no way to get through this room if i can't use my abilities the worst part is there are four of these rooms four more unavoidable jumps all right all right you know what let me just go in a little bit of a tangent here so i can get my mind off things uh you know it's actually kind of funny a very common question that a lot of people down in my comments have been asking me throughout the entirety of this challenge is why am i playing on the korean version of this game and if i'm gonna be honest the literal only reason is because it makes the computer virus text boxes way faster which is great because you gotta fight that guy a minimum of six times throughout the game in order to beat it so i'm saving a bit of my sanity by playing on korean however interestingly there are actually a few other key differences among the many versions of this game for example the tas i made was on the japanese version since it has a version exclusive glitch called wing zips wing zips are really cool and all but i just assumed they wouldn't have any applications for this challenge but now i'm kind of desperate i mean meta knight is kind of like wing and if i can somehow someway find a similar glitch to get past this room that alone would have our minimum jump count right now so why am i randomly bringing up version differences well there's good news and there's bad news firstly i actually did discover a completely new or at least undocumented glitch that allows you to zip with meta knife which can also be done without jumping and it looks like this but as far as i could tell it was only able to send me down in addition i needed a source of damage and i needed a meta boost in order to do it so it wasn't really even close to applicable you see though that was actually the bad news the good news you ask [Music] i have exactly zero clue why so don't even bother asking but for some insane reason meta knight can only use his abilities in these save point rooms when playing on the japanese version specifically that's right i also tested the north american one they don't work there either don't know don't care but now it's official the minimum jumps to be this game can only be achieved in japanese but hang on let's slow down a bit sure that problem was solved but man we actually still gotta beat this game before getting too ahead of myself okay here's the deal meta boosting is one size that fits all now that there are actually zero situations where we can't use our touchscreen abilities there is absolutely nothing that could stand in our way so with that meta knight makes his way into an incredibly miraculous spot on the tier list and meta nightmare ultra is complete one sub game left and this time we actually do get to play as kirby again in fact it's just the true arena i already did the regular arena and i'll be honest the only real difference between these two is that this one is technically harder but that doesn't mean fighter isn't still immediately available it also doesn't mean that there are any more obstacles that actually feed into the point of this challenge it's just a boss rush and much like the other two this one really isn't any interesting in this challenge so i guess with one final uppercut kirby superstar ultra is complete with only three jumps once in gourmet race to make the nearly impossible comeback versus dedede and twice in revenge of the king to scale the first mountain everything else is well history now but i can't be the only one to think that it's just a little anticlimactic right i mean we've gone through so much only for this finale to be solved by a character that can fly a character that's just a one-trick pony and a final boss rush that fighter just wipes the floor with yet again now that it's over i just feel empty incomplete so you know what let's put this thing to rest 74 you call that completed absolutely unacceptable that's it we're doing a last minute challenge revision and asking the real question how many jumps does it take to beat kirby superstar ultra with 100 completion let's finish this for good so we actually don't have to return to most of the sub games since they either have no form of bonus content or they are helper to hero in which case there are collectibles for beating the boss rush with every character but the game for some reason doesn't recognize it as a necessary thing to do for 100 whatever doing that wouldn't have been that interesting anyway so with that there are only three sub games that i have to return to in order to complete them in their entirety first up is dynablade which has two unlockable areas that i need to access by pressing these two big buttons you may remember if you watched the first part of this challenge that i actually already pressed the second one however you may also remember that i tried and failed at pressing the first one since i didn't have access to any great abilities at that point but this isn't a problem now that i have access to the entire subgame i went ahead and grabbed fighter from this mini boss that roams the map and entered the level with the button i had to briefly switch to mirror in order to actually unlock the door to the button but i was able to store the fighter ability through a helper so i could switch back no problem and with that area unlocked dynablade is already complete but we're not slowing down next up is milky way wishes here we have to find and collect all 19 ability pedestals i already got two of them from the second episode the first was ice because it was the only ability i could access in the beginning and you can probably guess what the second one was since i already have the best ability in the entire challenge and because the sub game allows me to switch to whatever ability i want on demand collecting the other 17 abilities wasn't even close to a problem with some thoroughness and some patience milky way wishes was also already completed with no additional jumps to speak of okay let's slow down a bit i'm going a little bit fast here and i need the length of this video to not be too too short so that people think meta knight took a lot longer than he ended up taking with only one sub game left to fully complete we're finally knocking on the door to the end of this challenge but this isn't just any sub game this is the great cave offensive when playing normally this is actually the easiest sub game in the challenge by far but playing for 100 completion is different we have to collect all 60 treasure chests throughout all of the rooms something i boldly claimed i probably could do in the first episode but with how many chests require getting past puzzles that fighter can't solve that isn't necessarily true so with that let's finally get into it the true final obstacle of this challenge 60 chests are all that stand in the way of beating kirby superstar ultra with as few jumps as possible and the first one was actually so easy it was literally just right there the second and third chest were also made trivial by fighter it wasn't until the fourth chest in this button puzzle that things got a little bit hairy these sections required that i move quickly so that these doors don't close on me something that is made much harder when uppercuts are your only form of gaining height chest number five was really cool and fun and chest number six is actually the reason i haven't made a helper yet i have to avoid accidentally destroying this block which i just know would be a major issue with the stupid ai dude mucking around chess seven eight and nine in this room were all very straightforward and after saying see you to my boy bonkers chess 10 and 11 were both pretty simple as well moving on to the next room chest 12 made me extremely glad that i had fighter cause flying over a bottomless pit is something that can really only feasibly do with this ability that being said chest 13 made me kind of hate the diet fighter cause it marks the first chest that requires specific abilities in particular i need to be able to cut this rope which only a select few abilities can actually do the closest of these abilities is sword for which there's a pedestal just in the next room because sword on its own is kind of booty i make sure to make a fighter helper so that one i could actually get to the rope that i need to cut and two so that i can steal my helpers ability back in order to get out of here after smacking up mr whale here and grabbing chest 14 and 15 underwater the level design in the sub game starts to become much more non-linear going into this left door first i collected chest 16 and 17 with no issue before coming across a door that requires i hit a button on the other side of the door luckily trash a single use ability that hits everything on screen is right here so i'm able to store fighter use it to hit the button and then swiftly grab fighter from storage before the door closes granting me chest 18 and 19 and no you did not hear me wrong after just a tiny bit more moving around from there chest 20 21 and 22 all came around fairly easily finishing off this left room the middle room had chests 23 24 and 25 and yup that's the only thing interesting about it moving on the right room is similarly quite simple with yet another trio of pretty much completely free chests chess 29 was also honestly pretty easy i thought the wind here would be a much bigger issue than it ended up being but i guess that's what i get for underestimating fighter i mean we've already collected nearly half of all the treasures so far with almost exclusively fighters so why would i think any differently in fact since it served us so well i made the incredibly intelligent decision to make an extra fighter helper in this room just in case so i don't know fighter for some reason never shows up ever again in the entire subgame after this and eventually we don't have access to it because we keep on being required to switch off a fighter but hey that's just a precaution there's no way that's actually the case anyway with two fighters and 29 chests in our back pocket it was time for the tower an infamously massive and complicated labyrinth with a ton of branching paths using my infinite breadth of knowledge i was able to easily calculate the most optimal route of treasures that i should take in order to complete the tower and by that i mean my thought process was big room left small room right i like big room more cuz fighter okay so somehow my routing decision there may have been a little bit flawed because chest number 30 here is a little scary thankfully my helper is completely unaffected by these things but if i accidentally run into the pedestals here my fighter will just be deleted and i'll automatically be switched to sleep which is for some reason an intentionally useless ability this means that i have to tread extremely carefully here else i lose my fighter for good which is obviously terrible speaking of fighter though it is completely unable to tread carefully in any capacity which is one of its only weaknesses in this challenge combine that with the wind in this room and i'm pretty sure this actually can't be done with fighter so i decided to leave this room to collect some other chests before eventually coming back to this room or at least that's what i told myself as i panicked over the fact that there may be a chest that not even fighter can do what the heck but you know what fighter can do collect this chest which is the new chest 30. it can also quite easily collect chest number 31 and with a bit of speed chest number 32. here we face yet another branching path but since fighter can't break these underwater blocks to get over here this way towards and past the boss was our only option this area though has only two chests and a dead end the easier the two chests was chest number 33 which usually requires an ability that can light candles but this can be avoided by just knowing where the door is and finding it in the dark chest 34 was a little bit trickier because it again required some speed after we press a button i swear these things are only getting less and less lenient but after a bit of practice it really wasn't too bad and now it's time to backtrack back to that path we couldn't go down like i said we usually need something that can break these blocks underwater but i can do you one better by instead grabbing plasma remember i still have a fighter helper so i swear this isn't as bad as it looks although plasma isn't actually able to destroy these things it is able to hit this one which you're only meant to use when coming back from this way but by lining up a plasma shot all the way down here i can stealthily sneak my way in now although that's fantastic it's actually not the only reason i want plasma after maneuvering through a few rooms with slide kicks and helper jumps i made it to this puzzle which usually requires some combination of an ability and helper that is able to both cut rope and hit these stumps however since fighter can do none of those things that would imply that i would have to get rid of fighter which i don't want to do so instead i do essentially the same plasma trick by shooting the block which gives access to what is supposed to be the back door allowing me to get through this puzzle without having to get rid of fighter no i'm not gonna move it up it stays where it belongs it's not like plasma helps me any more than that anyway rather than immediately switching back to fighter though i actually went with stone in this room cause if you remember stone is technically really good after using some stone flying to collect a long-winded chest 35 i was also able to use stone in order to collect chest 36 by fighting the water current and yeah that was the actual reason i switched to stone what do you really think i want to mash my b button a thousand times just to go up a tiny amount get out of here i'm back to fighter now this left side of the tower is almost fully complete only excluding that one chest i skipped so while backtracking i decided to grab wing in this room for although it's not as good as fighter in terms of getting direct height off of the ground it does have a lot more options than fighter so i thought that it might have a better chance of getting through this problem area and i was right by using a combination of dive bombs and dashes i was able to swiftly weave through the sleep pedestals and grab what is now chest 37 for the way back through i was actually able to just stand behind my helper as he cleared all the pedestals for me anyway now it's time to move to the right side of the tower and i don't mean to toot my own horn here but i feel like i've done a pretty good job of preserving some pretty good abilities however after an easy chest 38 i was immediately forced off of wing and on to yoyo in order to access chest 39 and by the time i got to chest 40 i was back on fighter except this time with no helper as you can see the constant switching of abilities is slowly taking a toll on my resources here however after saying see a little bonkers yet again and grabbing chest 41 and 42 this didn't even seem like too big of an issue great never mind unlike the last wooden post we saw we aren't able to avoid hitting this one meaning we need either hammer or stone in order to access the last bit of the tower can you guess which one i chose thankfully this room is very close to the entrance of the tower so going out getting stone and coming back to hit the post wasn't too too big of a detour after switching off of stone to literally anything else as soon as i possibly could i beat up this dude and collected chest 43 chest 44 on the other hand might be a bit of an issue although i do have fire here i can't light this fuse because it's underwater in fact the only thing that can light this fuse is a fire helper this unfortunately means that i'm pretty sure we can't keep fighter around anymore maybe if i used my brain a bit more and went straight to this chest before anything else then yeah i might have been able to avoid the situation but as it stands i had to execute my fighter in order to make him a flame boy how is this the second time i've made this mistake this shouldn't be that hard to avoid anyway by using fire's dash attacks some helper jumps and a lit fuse i was able to collect chest 44. however we aren't quite done we still need to get out of here and oh boy would you look at that the worst thing of all time luckily you can just barely move up enough with the fireball to bonk on this wall and activate a helper jump thank god after that with some careful swimming chest 45 the last chest in the tower was collected and it was very easy absolutely nothing went wrong or really even could have gone wrong next up more backtracking but after that we'll be able to finally move on to the next area oh no so like this isn't possible and to add to that the only other ability that i have access to in the basement here is suplex from this guy which requires there to be enemies or blocks in order to be useful don't worry though i do have a solution a very graceful one that in fact does not involve death or really any form of violence if you don't think about it by dying and respawning i appear right at the entrance of the tower and although i could certainly try and start moving on to the next area from here it would definitely be a much better idea to at least try to get some good ability or at least a helper from the tower since you know i died and lost it all unfortunately there's really not much normal kirby can do without abilities so as far as i could tell the only real abilities that i had access to are cutter beam and paracel of which parasol is technically the best it's also potentially possible that mirror is also accessible at the top of this room and then hammer in the room after that but at that point we're really just describing the entire bottom tier so let's just move on surprisingly the fact that parasol can float in the air was actually incredibly useful here both for getting into this mine car and getting out of it but that's the end of good things from paracel because wing is available immediately in the next room and so is chest 46 right after chest 47 was a very interesting one as there's some super strong gusts of wind that keep you from accessing it i'm pretty sure the intended strategy here is to use jet in order to overcome this wind or at least that's what my helper was apparently thinking but i opt instead to use wayne's dive bombs since they for some reason just completely ignore wind altogether allowing me to slowly inch my way to the chest after that again we find ourselves looking at some branching paths i tried actually thinking with my brain this time but since wing and a few other good abilities are fairly easily accessible in the previous room it didn't matter as much as it may have last time i ended up going with this right path first where i came across chest 48 and chest 49. chest 50 wasn't bad at all either since a lot of the room that it's in is submerged in water which makes navigation much more trivial what isn't trivial however is just 51. to grab this guy i either have to be able to hit this underwater block or this underwater button which unfortunately means i got to use this thing again before doing that though i gave my wing to my helper so i wouldn't be stuck with the inferior jet after grabbing this chest flying right on out of there i went down the only path left that doesn't just straight up lead to the end of the subgame here i found chest 52 quite easily but if you slow down the footage you can actually see the moment i regret my decision coming down here luckily helper jumps are my saving grace since wing just wasn't quite able to make it out of there on its own hey remember like less than a minute ago when i said that i didn't want to be forced to use jet over wing well look at me now the reason that this is going on is because i need to be able to light this canon fuse for chess 53 or more accurately i need my helper to light it for me since it's pretty dang hard for me to both light the canon fuse and get into the canon quickly all by myself but this still isn't gonna work even if i did find a way to break all the right blocks and get into this hole to collect the chest jet needs a good amount of horizontal distance in order to gain height with its boost and this just isn't gonna cut it so instead i did some backtracking to recollect wang in this room before coming right on back grabbing chest 53 and getting right out i'm not quite done here yet though i still need to use this cannon here in order to access the next area luckily i don't actually have to light this one with a fire move which is great because my helper for some reason decided not to participate today that's fine i'll just do this part all myself then i don't care it's been a while since we've been able to do some rapid fire chests but this area has a lot of pretty simple rooms that didn't take much thought at all making chess 54 chest 55 chest 56 and chest 57 all fairly straightforward and wait a minute what the heck 57 we only have three chests left oh man and here i thought this challenge was starting to pick up however all was not quite what it seemed allow me to tell a little bit of a story see a little while ago before i even considered trying to collect all the treasure chests here someone left an interesting comment on my first episode of this challenge someone whose name is censored not for privacy or dramatic reasons but because i'm just trying to keep this video family friendly let's just call them jacob or something like that jacob here decided to take it upon himself to tackle the same challenge i'm doing now except with mixing for some added quality of life however even with the slightly more lenient rules there was exactly one treasure that jacob here couldn't manage to collect and that treasure is chest number 58 so what's the deal then this chest is actually very simple which is also what makes it very problematic press this button and get to the end before the door closes however unlike the similar chests we've seen throughout this challenge this one's timing is extremely tight essentially requiring one specific strategy with almost no room for error what's the strategy well it's kind of spelled out for you right in the beginning of the room we need to make our helper a wheelie and then ride it through the room in order to be fast enough to make it to the door so then what's the issue well it's this thing right here in a normal jump full playthrough of this game this ledge is no issue just jump right over it and boom no speed lost but since it's obviously not that simple for us we're gonna have to find a way to not only clear this ledge but do so in a way that's fast enough to get to the door god i wish there is just someone anyone out there who not only has extensive knowledge and experience regarding getting height in this game but also a similar amount of knowledge regarding going as fast as possible in this game yeah so i'm definitely taking a break from this game after this but before that i the resident curb expert have to crack this case and to do that we first got to define our problem here's the thing this ledge is literally the only point in this room that requires some form of height gaining everywhere else is very easily traversable so since weeby rider is the fastest form of horizontal movement that we have access to right now it's really the only option for covering this entire section so since we will necessarily be zooming with wheely rider once we get to this point we only have two options for the ledge the first is to stay on wheelie and attempt to use a sharp turn to take care of the ledge but as you can see stopping to deal with it is just way too slow as the door closes before we even get to see it close this leaves us with only one other opportunity for success dismounting the wheelie by pressing x and then covering this very short stretch of land on my own without wheelie okay cool so now that we know exactly what the goal is let's start looking at potential abilities for kirby to have that could make this possible like i said speed is the name of the game here not gaining height so the tier list that we made for this challenge specifically is completely irrelevant here so instead we need to focus on abilities that specialize in movement and based on the abilities that i use the most and the tool assisted speedrun that i made there are five that come to mind wing jet wheel paracel and ninja ninja is definitely the least likely of these to work since its best form of movement comes in the form of backwards puff cancelled dive kicks or buppaku ducks for short of course one of these words should trigger a bit of an alarm in your head since puffing is a move that requires the air white button and it gives you height sounds kind of like banned material to me similarly wing also seems pretty weak here first of all its main strength is vertical movement not horizontal movement so it's already lacking there in addition though its primary movement tech that makes it so good dive bomb cancels require again that i either press the a or y button to actually cancel the dive bombs so unless i want to spike my jump count to like a thousand this isn't gonna work you wanna know what's faster than wing though paracel by contrast this thing moves insanely fast with dash attacks like there's actually no reason for it to be like this but unfortunately it only has this sort of speed when it's used in the air grounded dash attacks with parasol are mad slow and it's not like we can jump to do the area ones you might be thinking oh well then just use it immediately when you dismount wheelie but that doesn't work since you aren't put in a dashing state so attacking here would just do a normal parasol swing instead of a dash attack wheel the next ability on the chopping block actually seems like it has a little bit more promise i know i said we can't use our wheel helper for this section since we have to dismount him in order to get over the ledge but if kirby has wheel himself then it seems like the obvious answer is just to do a bit of a switch-a-roo right the only issue with this is that kirby's wheel is for some reason way slower than wheelie so although it's certainly the closest we've gotten so far it just simply isn't quite fast enough to cut it and there's no way to speed it up any more than this so with all that there's only one ability left to consider jet and since this is our last resort let's not waste time discussing what it could theoretically do and instead just try it if jet doesn't work then i'll be completely honest nothing will jet's movement is great because you can maintain a constant consistent horizontal speed in the air but like parasol this requires that we're actually in a dashing state which isn't really possible to do quickly here instead we'll have to resort to using jet's charge which is the exact opposite of consistent and constant it allows us to store a much bigger boost than normal but it can only be used once before you have to charge it all the way back up again it was going to be close but close might just be all that we're looking for and with one fully charged boost trailed by the wimpiest follow-up boost you've ever seen and a final triumphant slide kick later chest 58 is collected and jacob's dying wish has been fulfilled okay but we still have two more chests left to go chest 59 was actually kind of annoying i definitely could have gone back to get weighing and make this much easier but i instead used the much more accessible cutter in order to cut the rope needed to solve this puzzle then i just use wheelie to maneuver around until collecting our penultimate chest and although it certainly wasn't the most complex difficult or even interesting chest in the challenge chess number 60 was definitely the most satisfying as we finish off all the collectibles in the entire game beat the final boss and ride one last stretch of victory oops yeah so apparently you can't get out of these mine carts without either jumping or hitting a wall so i'll just be right back then and one last stretch of victory with just a few more helper jumps and a yo-yo trick to end it all of all things kirby superstar ultra has been beaten with 100 completion in only three jumps now that is a much more satisfying ending hey what's up welcome to the end of the video if you're here that probably means you enjoyed it so go ahead and let me know by doing all those youtube things we all know and love and really think about it subscribing benefits you just as much as it benefits me because it's not like this is the last challenge i'm gonna do i might be taking a break from this game but i'm not saying goodbye to good old kerbo forever i've got a squeak squad tas in the works and it's actually insane so far so you might want to keep that on your radar i'm also pretty much obligated to play forgotten lane now that i'm a kirby tuber so definitely get excited for that and don't tell anyone this but i've also been playing through hollow knight again recently so you can maybe rack your brain on why that might be the case and with all that being said who knows i might come back to kirby superstar ultra again in the future but am i doing that at this moment no
