what is going on guys my name is john and welcome back to yet another video so i've been spending a lot of time on reddit lately and i've been exploring to discover any and all pokemon subreddits that i can possibly find i spent about two hours just searching through subreddits using random keywords like pokemon the names of games and really any major aspect of the series when i typed in pokedex there were quite a lot of decent ones on the list that i was already subbed to but hidden in that list was a subreddit called professor oak this one only has 350 members and most of the posts are done by a few people every couple of days coincidentally the creator of the subreddit is chameleo who i've referenced quite a few times in the catch mall videos that i've done in the past this subreddit is a showcase for members attempts at completing his own challenge which he called the professor oaks challenge this challenge only has one main rule complete the pokedex as much as you can before taking on each gym his challenge is extremely simple in concept but very tough when you get into it i checked out all the recent posts and i was immediately hooked to the point where i wanted to find out if i could do it myself and i did just that today we're going to find out how easily you can complete professor oak's challenge in pokemon red and blue so before we hop into this challenge let's cover a few ground rules that the creator set in place while there's technically only one rule there are some smaller rules the community has made to make it a lot more interesting so the first rule is that this challenge is only based around playing one game which i'm definitely okay with because it gives me a break from doing every game like i do in my catch em all videos there are a lot of small differences in each game that definitely change the way you take this challenge so no matter which game you play you'll have a different situation to face while one game is technically better than the other i chose to play red just because of personal preference this choice results in immediate limitations because we can't use another game to help us all trade pokemon as well as version exclusives are completely off limits there are also some other smaller things that i'll mention later it's a little disappointing that you technically can't catch all of them but that's expected no matter what pokemon game you'll play the last unspoken rule is that you can't use any glitches i feel like this is a pretty obvious one but i felt the need to cover that just in case without further ado let's find out if this is possible if you happen to be following along let me just remind you that if you don't have patience for repetitive actions you should probably stop while you're ahead it's definitely a fun challenge but you need a crazy amount of patience to even make it a little far in this game the beginning starts out as it normally does with you meeting professor oak in the grass and he brings you to the pokemon lab with your rival who i named after the creator once we get to the lab we have to make probably the biggest decision out of the entire challenge picking our starter between bulbasaur charmander and squirtle there is one of them that is leagues better than the others while charmander can deal super effective moves to all the pokemon and viridian forest bulbasaur is without a doubt the smartest choice as it evolves to venusaur at level 32. evolving at a four level difference may not sound like much but if you want to take the fastest path to finishing this challenge i'd definitely go for bulbasaur although we have our first pokemon we still have yet to receive the pokedex after delivering the parcel we can now begin our journey [Music] unlike most games we don't receive any pokeballs and we have to buy them for the pokemart that we went to earlier we don't start with a lot of money but i buy 10 pokeballs to start off with the first two routes rat1 is home to only two pokemon in this generation pidgey and rattata neither one of them are hard to catch but we're gonna have a bit of trouble later on with one of these with these two our decks total is now a three pokemon when we get back to viridian city we have the option to go to route 2 but instead we're gonna head west and go to route 22 instead there are three more pokemon that we have to catch on this route spiro nidoran male and nidoran female these are relatively easy to find but neither and female is a 5 encounter which took a few minutes to get [Music] at this point i've already encountered quite a big problem spear was being a pain to catch which left me with only a couple pokeballs left there's still quite a few more pokemon to catch before brock but i barely had any money left we only start with a few thousand poke dollars in the beginning but hopefully we can get a lot more after taking on some people in the viridian forest all right so i finished fighting the first trainer and hopefully we'll get a decent sixty dollars that's not even the cost of a single pokeball that's like worth one jiggle this giant force contains a whopping three trainers and they give you a total of two hundred twenty dollars which is a little over one pokeball an overwhelming majority of the money that you get is given to you right at the beginning but there's still one more battle that we can do that we'll get to later with the little money we have left i managed to grab all the pokemon that you can find in this area i caught weedle cocoona caterpie metapod and pikachu i know i could have just evolved caterpie and weedle but i found them on the way through the forest anyways so i just took the opportunity now that we've caught all the pokemon before pewter city we can take on brock right wrong while we have every obtainable wild pokemon that doesn't mean that we have every pokemon you can register this means that we have to evolve every pokemon that we can before we fight brock and you thought catching every pokemon in 24 hours was crazy so let's go over all our catches and see what we can do so the only pokemon we can't do anything with is pikachu we don't have access to a thunderstone so we'll take care of that when the time comes the next easiest pokemon are butterfree and beedrill both of these pokemon evolve at level 10 so i was able to do both of these in about an hour i actually used caterpie and weedle because switch training would have taken too long because they only know harden the next two on our list are need arena and nidorino these evolve at level 16 which is the point where i start to think yeah maybe this wasn't a good challenge to do because we're done with every trainer except our optional battle with gary we have to level up all of our pokemon entirely from wild battles the most xp we can get is from wild metapod and kokuna which give out about 50 xp but everything else ranges from as low as 25 xp to evolve both of these pokemon it took me about three hours aside from butterfree and beedrill this is the easiest level up in this section of the game so you can only imagine what the rest would be like since we don't have access to moonstones until after defeating brock we'll finish these two once we have access to them [Music] the next two are firo and raticate these evolve at level 20 and are also equally not fun to evolve i feel that once you get through the first few evolutions you get used to the grind and zone out i see it in the same way as shiny hunting where you can just watch tv or do something else to keep yourself from realizing that you've wasted a whole day evolving three pokemon and now we have the last two pokemon we haven't evolved pidgey and our starter bulbasaur bubble store evolves at level 16 and then at level 32 which is a great reason as to why i think it's the best choice for a starter while you may want to choose charizard because you don't want to get made fun of for not choosing it the difference between level 32 and level 36 is 14 000 xp this means it will take roughly six to eight more hours to get your precious charizard or blastoise after grueling 13-ish hours i was able to get bulbasaur to evolve into ivysaur and then into venusaur [Music] this leaves us with pidgey who is also a nightmare pokemon to evolve this one is the ultimate test of patience because once you complete this one you've done the hardest one out of the entire challenge after 17 hours i managed to get pidgey to evolve into pidgeotto and then to pidgeot bringing the total to 21 pokemon this is the maximum of all the pokemon you can catch at this point in the game and i'm very thankful for that because this was quite the experience but there's still plenty more pokemon that we have to catch if it isn't obvious enough already there isn't a single battle that we're going to have trouble with so we can easily defeat brock to unlock the next areas to catch pokemon route 3 is our first stop where we have to take on quite a few trainers before we can add more pokemon to our total although we can skip quite a few trainers here it's a good idea to battle as many as you can this will fix all the money problems that we had in the first section once we reach the grass we can obtain jigglypuff before we reach route 4. [Music] the next big location we're coming up to is mount moon this area contains a ton of different pokemon that we need to grab as well as some really important items to increase our total before we step inside we can talk to the man inside the pokemon center and buy a magikarp for 500 this may seem like a waste of money because we can fish for one but there are a ton of trainers in this area that will yield a lot higher xp totals than battling wild pokemon while we're running around in mount moon battling everyone we can find we can grab some new pokemon as well here we can catch zubat geodude paris and clefairy i'd highly suggest going to the lowest floor to catch these because paris jumps from 5 to 15 and clefairy jumps from 1 to 6 which is much more manageable on the first floor we can grab our first moonstone as well as another on this wall right before the fossil maniac speaking of him this is another choice-based event this one really doesn't matter because both pokemon evolve at level 40 so i chose the dome fossil because i like kabutops moving forward a little bit after exiting mount moon i stopped on route 4 to catch ekkins bringing the total to 28 pokemon this route is also the first location where we'll have version exclusives censor is only available in blue so we're also unable to obtain sand slash at any point through this challenge after this route is cerulean city where we can do quite a lot more things before we take on misty's gem after i healed i caught another spiro on route 4 east for a trade that we'll have to do later on if we head up north we can fight our rival and plow through everyone else on the nugget bridge route 24 and 25 have access to only a couple more pokemon here we can catch abra which is per usual kind of a pain to catch i chose to catch abra on route 25 because you have a greater chance of catching it on a higher level considering that it only knows teleport before it evolves having it as high of a level as you can is definitely the best move these routes also have bellsprout which is another version exclusive that we can't catch which eliminates weepinbell as well as victreebel after clearing through the routes we meet up with bill and save him from being a pokemon forever now if you played all the other remakes of these games you know that once you help build that is essentially the last thing you can do before you take on misty in these games you can actually go much farther in the story before you're forced to claim the badge once you finish the event with bill the officer in front of the dig house moves unlike the other games we have to clear the gym in order for him to let you pass this skip allows us to access about 6 new areas while there aren't a ton of new pokemon to collect there are definitely ones that we can't pass up right below cerulean city is route 5 where we can catch manky and oddish as this is the highest level that we can find them this is also the route where you can catch meowth but that's another version exclusive which means that persian is also not available after taking the first underground path we reach vermilion city if we talk to this person we can trade our recently caught spiro for far-fetched this is the only way that you can catch him in red and blue so it's important to not miss this one the next location is east of vermillion on route 11 where we can catch drowsy the last location for catches is going to be diglett's cave while we can obviously catch a diglett there's a 5 chance that we can also catch duck trio which can save a pretty good amount of time leveling up so the next part of this challenge is a little confusing in the subreddit they said that there are three moonstones so you can obtain before you battle misty but when i actually got to playing i could only find two of them there are only five available in one single playthrough and they don't specify which one they found last there is one on route 2 at the end of diglett's tunnel which i assume was the one they suggested but you need cut to access it regardless of what entrance you use the other two were in celadon and cinnabar which are obviously much farther in the story than we can reach i spent about an hour researching to see if there was any way around it without glitches and i couldn't find anything if i'm wrong please leave a comment because i saw that someone did it but i couldn't figure out where they got it from aside from that at this point this is basically all that we can do so let's take care of all the evolutions so in comparison to catching all the pokemon before defeating brock this is a lot easier because of the amount of locations we're available to train i try my best to avoid as many trainers as possible while i was collecting pokemon so this will help a lot in leveling up our long list that we have to run through trainer battles yield roughly 33 more xp than wild ones so if there was a trainer i could skip i made sure to avoid them once they're all defeated however the best place that i found to level up was diglett's cave the pokemon in this area are the highest level that we can access at this point diglett can give out between 170 to 250 xp per battle but doug trio is where the real xp comes in at around 650. because doug trio is at a much higher level you can actually use the repel trick to bring their encounter rate from 5 to 100 if your lead pokemon is level 23 or higher this trick works a little different in the earlier generations so you'll get a lot less encounters which makes it kinda hard to tell which one is really the better method just like the previous badge we'll go over each one from easiest to hardest because we have access to two moonstones we can evolve clefairy to clefable and jigglypuff to wigglytuff although abra and magikarp only know non-damaging moves they were actually the second easiest ones to take care of because of all the trainer battles magikarp was involved in just about every battle in mount moon and abra tagged along through the ssm which made it possible to get magikarp to gyarados and abrahadabra we won't be able to get alakazam or any of the other trade evolutions because we need another game so we're going to leave him the way he is next up is drowsy because it was one of the most recent pokemon we caught i only had to level it up about 10 levels opposed to the 20 that the other games did this one only took about an hour before it evolved into hypno coming up as a close second is ekans while i did catch one on route 4 i realized that it's at a significantly higher level on routes 10 and 11 so i grabbed another there this can be a difference of around 8 levels so if you're following along i'd strongly suggest catching one here after bringing it up to level 22 our ekans evolved into because odis was another pokemon caught in this area it took about the same time to get this one to evolve into gloom now let's take a look at more lengthy ones on our list we have three pokemon from mount moon that haven't seen a single battle and are pretty much around the same levels paris was surprisingly the easiest one out of the bunch even though it only knows one viable move before it evolves it can learn leech life at level 20 so until then scratch is basically all that we've got to work with this one took me about 40 minutes to complete and gives us parasect at level 24. coming up just a little over 40 minutes is zubat realistically this one should have been faster because it's in a faster xp group but it only knows leech life until level 15 which is terrible because in this gen it only deals 20 damage it also only has 15 power points which means that you're running back and forth just for maybe a single level once we learn byte though everything becomes a lot easier so after a bit of grinding zubat evolved into golbat so the last two pokemon are debatable as to which one is the worst jew dude is in the same boat as paris and zubat because we have access to only one move for a majority of the levels we get access to rock through level 16 but it's not very effective against diglett and doug trio we also get access to self-destruct at level 21 which is the most useless kind of move you could get for this kind of challenge once geodude reached level 25 it evolved into graveler we won't evolve this into golem because we can't trade it with another game last but not least is manky this one is the highest evolution out of the badge section at level 28. this is 6 000 more xp than reaching level 25 so best believe this will take a bit at level 15 manky learns karate chop which is something you can get from the start if you manage to encounter one the only downside is that this move isn't stabbed because in this generation it was a normal type move it still deals a solid amount of damage so a little over an hour manky evolved into primape this brings a total to 46 pokemon as well as the maximum amount of pokemon we can obtain for this area in total this area took me significantly less time than the last section which brings us to just a hair over 50 hours so what's next well at this point we have to take on misty's gem there isn't really any surprise here we completely destroy her so now we can continue with the story since we defeated this gem we have now access to the cut technique that we grabbed on the ssn you're probably realizing now how large this next section is going to be the cut trees block just about every path we have access to on the main lands and since we can clear them now we can go pretty much wherever we want to so let's begin the second longest section out of the challenge before i begin this section i immediately went to grab the moonstone on route 2 as well as grab the old amber from pewter city because it's really easy to forget because i still had it in the party i immediately evolved nidorino to nidoking east of cerulean city is route 9 which has pokemon that we already have but route 10 lets us catch voltorb to start off our chapter rock tunnels up next and here we have to catch two important pokemon machop and onyx are available on both floors but onyx's encounter rate doubles on the lowest floor i avoided most of the battles in this area to save for leveling up our catches later on when we exit the tunnel we reach lavender town where we have a bunch of different things we can do if we head wes from here we can go to route 8 and use cut to skip a ton of trainers as well as grab growlith while we're here blue's version exclusive vulpix is in this area which means that we also can't obtain nine tails in this playthrough the path then leads us to celadon city this area contains a lot of things that we need in order to complete the challenge if you go through the back of all the buildings we can grab the pokeball the top that contains eevee since this is the only one in the game and you can't breed pokemon our total will be two last no matter what evolution we choose after grabbing a drink from the top of the celadon department store we head to the game corner to take care of some business although we can use the pokedoll to get rid of the marowak at the top of the tower instead of actually using the self scope this won't help us when we actually have to catch the pokemon we need at the tower this maze also contains the last moonstone that we need for nida queen which will evolve once we're done catching pokemon after defeat giovanni we receive the silk scope and head back to lavender town to progress the story upon entering the tower we battle our rival and head all the way to the top to catch gastly haunter and cubone this is the best place to get all of them because hunter's encounter rate increases the more that you ascend the building once again we can't evolve haunter because of trading so gengar is off limits after clearing out the rocket grunts we received the poke flute from mr fuji and can now access any area on the main land if we go south of here we can reach the snorlax blocking the path and capture it for the decks as well as let us reach fascia city on the way there i stomped and collected the super rod which were allowed to get before the good rod for some reason south of this route is route 13 where we can catch venonat as well as ditto route 14 and 15 have a higher chance of encountering ditto but i managed to get one on the way so it didn't really matter when we get to future city if we head to the house right next to the warden we can grab the final fishing rod that we need at this point we can take on probably the hardest catching section the safari zone if you've seen my cat's wall video on this you know that this isn't easy the low percentage pokemon are very willing to run away and out of all the options you have to catch these pokemon statistically the best option is to keep throwing safari balls until one decides to go in in the first area we catch execute ryhorn and scyther after a disgusting amount of tries pincer is one of the last version exclusives that we can't obtain as this is only available in blue in area 2 i caught kangaskhan and then chansey venomoth and tauros in area 3. considering that tauros is only one percent in this area this was a really lucky find the last pokemon that needs to be caught in the safari zone is dratini with the super raw it's a 25 chance in any area the unfortunate part is that the only level you can get it at is level 15. i know that you can buy one from the game corner at level 25 but it's too much money considering that we need to save as much as we can for later on after we collect the gold teeth and surf we bring this to the warden to get the tm for strength if we head west a fuchsia to route 18 we can catch doduo which is pretty much the last pokemon that we catch on land in this section and now we begin the crazy amount of fishing that we need to complete i didn't really understand how many pokemon are available as fishing encounters until i played this so let's get started heading back to fuchsia city if we fish in the small pond we can catch golden sea king and krabby if we go south of here to route 19 we can catch horsey as well as staryu with the super rod heading back up to lavender town we stop and catch poliwag with the goodrod after giving the guard the drink we got earlier we can head to saffron city to make traveling a lot easier if we go to vermilion city we can use the super rod to catch shelder bringing our total to 74 pokemon [Music] we then head through diglett's tunnel and go to viridian city where we can use the small pond to fish for tentacool it seems silly to travel all that distance for an easy pokemon but in every place butt pallet town and this area you can only find them at level 5. this will help shave off a ton of time in the long run after backtracking quite a bit we reached saladon city and fish to catch slowpoke and two poliwhirl if we head up to cerulean city we can trade the second one we caught for a jinx we can get one in the seafoam islands but we don't have access to surf yet to get one after the trade i went back up to route 24 to catch psyduck and get another abra for another mandatory trade if we take this ridiculous tunnel again we can trade this for mr mime i wasted a lot of time not doing this on the first run through but at the same time it's not a race so it really doesn't matter the last two pokemon we need for right now are in saffron city at this point i'm going to start leveling up my catches because there are a lot of trainers that can be taken on next up is the self company after clearing through the entire building i was able to take on my rival and collect the lapras gift after defeating him because the person doesn't walk up to you like they do in yellow i feel like this one is actually a pretty easy one to forget about after defeating giovanni we received the master ball which we'll actually use unlike the let's go catch em all now the team rocket is disbanded we're basically done with the story for quite a while if we head to the fighting dojo we can battle the karate king and choose between hitmonlee or hitmonchan no matter which one you choose you can't obtain the other one at any point in the game and i just chose him only for this playthrough now it's time to evolve some pokemon i started by going to the celadon department store to grab all the evolution stones that we needed to complete this section with the fourth moonstone i collected i used this to evolve nidorina to need a queen with the rest of the stones i evolved pikachu to raichu gloom to vileplume groutleth to arcanine polyworld of polywrath sheldor to cloister execute to exeggutor star you to starmie and evie to jolteon because it was the least ugly sprite out of the three just like the last two badges let's go over the evolutions from easiest to hardest although we have access to a lot of places there still isn't a good place to train pokemon after going over the xp for all the locations the place that offered the best experience was route 18. while route 17 has the same pokemon firo is 10 easier to find which is the highest xp pokemon that is easy to encounter i've seen that even going back to diglett's tunnel can be a decent place for xp but there's a lot more potential on these routes before it went to this area i took on every trainer that i could find that i avoided on my way down to fuchsia city i primarily use these battles for dratini and rhyhorn as their spoiler alert the hardest pokemon to evolve by a landslide the easiest pokemon however was probably cubone just because of how low of a level it needs to evolve after getting into level 28 he evolved to marowak [Music] on the same boat as crabby it still stuck with bubble until level 20 when it can learn vice which deals a little more damage than it could before after about 40 minutes i was able to evolve it into kingler because doduo was found at a high level this one was relatively easy to take care of just like the rest i'm listing off it has pretty average moves that it can use and it conveniently learns the best flying move one level before it evolves at level 31 doduo evolved into dodrio tentacool and horsey were basically the same process except horsey evolves two levels higher at 32. the move wrap is really broken in this generation so this carried me until tentacool learned watergun at level 22. horsey lacks a lot of moves until it's just about to evolve but bubble did enough to get the job done after three hours between the both of them i evolved tentacool the tentacruel and horsey to cedra [Music] machop was probably the next on the list i actually couldn't train this on route 18 because of its weakness to everything on the route so i went east of fuchsia city to take them on there just like manky it instantly has access to karate chop which is nice because the rest of its moves blow after bringing it up to level 28 it evolved into machoke we can't trade this to a champ so the total will stay the same psyduck and voltorb also took a ton of time to evolve for basically the same reason do you think that an electric type pokemon would be the fastest to evolve because every pokemon this route is weak to it but gamefreak decided it'd be fun to give this pokemon zero electric moves before it evolves sonic boom is kinda good but it takes around three to four uses to take down one pokemon zydec is only obtainable at this point at level 15 which means it only has access to scratch for 13 levels at level 28 it realizes hey you know what i can wag my tail now this one was a real test of patience because of all the running back and forth to heal up one move this one took me about two and a half hours but with these finished voltorb evolved into electrode and psyduck evolved into goldock [Music] now we have the extreme pokemon so i said in the beginning that pidgeot was probably the hardest thing you have to deal with and that's debatable once you get to this part slowpoke has access to only one move confusion which thankfully is a stab move i can't imagine doing this without one because it evolves at level 37 you get access to headbot and water gun but they don't do as much as confusion does so they're mostly just backups if you don't want to go back to heal up it wouldn't be a bad idea to take on oddish and venonat that are on the opposite route because they're weak to psychic moves but they didn't give out enough xp in comparison to the other pokemon i'm fighting after about two and a half hours slowpoke evolved into slow bro bringing the total to 100 pokemon [Music] and if we take this to the gate on route 18 we can throw away all of our hard work and trade this to receive likatung this is the only location we can get one aside from the safari zone and the japanese version of blue so once again this one is mandatory now let's go over the last two dratini and ride on may vary in levels for evolution but they're both still annoying no matter how you look at it droutini has to level up 40 levels and it basically dragged it through every single trainer battle that i avoided just like every other pokemon in this game it has an awful level up move pool rap is really the best thing it can do for a while and that's only because it's extremely broken it has access to slam once it evolves which helps a little but both of these moves aren't 100 accurate which makes it pretty annoying to land a move because trainers give a lot more xp this one actually only took about three hours to complete i took it through silfco as well as grinding so i didn't account for that additional time at level 30 dratini evolved into dragonair and then into dragonite at level 55. by the time this happened there were still a few trainers left for ryhorn but a majority of this leveling was from the wild horn attack and stop are the only two moves that it can learn and they basically do the exact same thing it doesn't have access to any rock or ground type moves even when it evolves but it has a really high attack for a basic pokemon this one took around 4 hours for rhyhorn to evolve into ride on now that we're done leveling up our pokemon we still have one more that we have to take care of because i've taken on basically every single trainer in the region i managed to get quite a lot of money i tried to grab every item i could which was difficult because of bag slot limitations but with this money we can go to the game corner and grab our last pokemon porygon the price to obtain it varies depending on which game you chose blue's price is 6 500 coins and reds is maxed out at 999 coins i didn't really consider this going into it but in total this is around two hundred thousand dollars you have to spend to just get this pokemon thankfully i had enough money which puts us at the maximum amount of pokemon you can have with two badges [Music] it's kind of crazy isn't it you can catch over two-thirds of the pokedex without even playing a lot of the story we aren't done yet though so let's take on the next section as we know though the objective for this challenge is to have the most pokemon with the least amount of badges while the common thought would be to take on lieutenant serge because he's the third gym leader we're not going to do that kanto's third gem can be four different leaders depending on how you play as there aren't any requirements aside from giovanni and blaine at this point this means that our third batch can be lieutenant surge erica sabrina or koga because we want to increase our pokedex total we should fight a gym leader that will give us a useful hm lieutenant search only teaches us fly erika teaches strength and sabrina doesn't do anything coca let's excuse the hm for surf which is the only thing stopping us from catching more pokemon so we're going to take on koga to catch pretty much everything else that we need to get when we collect the soul badge we head all the way back to palo town and ride all the way over to cinebar island in the original game seafoam islands blocks you from reaching the other side of route 20 if you don't have access to strength yet so we have to take the long way there while the gym is the most important thing here there are a lot of other things we can do to progress if you go to the pokemon revival lab we can revive both of the fossils to get kabuto and aerodactyl after that in the pokemon mansion we have a bunch of different pokemon that we can collect here we can catch ponyta grimer muck coughing and wheezing bringing the total to 112 pokemon the last version exclusive we can't catch is magmar which is located in this area after we grab the secret key we exit the mansion and head north of cinebar to go back to where we started right below palo town is a small patch of grass we have a 10 chance to encounter tangala and this is the only location you can find them [Music] the last two locations are on opposite sides of the map which makes it a little hard to get to when you don't have access to fly but if we take diglett's tunnel we can make the trip a lot faster if we go west to cerulean city and all the way to rock tunnel we can take the water path all the way to the power plant here we can catch magnemite magneton electopas and take out our first legendary zapdos i don't think there's anything i haven't already said about catching legendaries in the first two generations that i can really say here the catch mechanics are really weird for these games for legendaries no matter what their hp is at there's a high chance the pokeball will completely miss it the only time where it will never happen is when it's asleep or frozen solid the easiest method is to have a pokemon that can use a poisoning move which will bring its catch rate all the way up to eight percent if you're using a great ball in the red after blowing all the money on porygon this is really the one of the very few options that you have after only five throws i managed to grab it [Music] next are the seafoam islands although we can enter the area we can't really go very far before we're blocked off by the strength boulders this means that we're unable to catch articuno until we have the badge for strength but that won't stop us from cleaning up for the rest of this area here we can catch seal and dugong which ends all that we can catch for right now this means that thankfully we only have two pokemon that we have to evolve before we're done with this section ponyta and caputo are the last of the list and they're both a relatively easy task to complete kabuto was much easier because of his advantage over the fire types in the pokemon mansion i gave it the tm for bubble bean that i got from misty's gym which made it even easier this only took about 30 minutes if that to get it to evolve into kabutops [Music] ponyta made easy work of the coughing and wheezing in the area but it was basically unable to battle other ponyta because of its moveset this took me about 45 minutes to get ponyta rapidash which is the final pokemon for this section [Music] the next badge we have to take on for more pokemon is erica she gives us the ability to use strength which means that we can now battle articuno in the seafoam islands because we have quite a formidable team to take it on we were able to add this one to total [Music] i wish there was more to say about this section but that's literally it the next pokemon that we don't have is in victory road which means that we have to defeat every gym leader before we can go there because our team is extremely strong none of them really offered any difficulty we have a strong counter for literally every type at this point so nothing stands in our way after about 30 minutes we defeated serge sabrina blaine and finally giovanni before heading to route 22 to battle our rival again moving forward quite a bit when we're nearing the end of victory road we can take on our last pokemon that we can get before the elite four multrace this is actually a little harder than articuno but i came prepared for the long fight anyways so it didn't really matter after missing about 20 times i finally caught it [Music] at this point we can take on the elite 4 and the champion because i didn't focus on leveling up pokemon after evolving them our levels are kinda everywhere but since i have all three birds and some backup high-end evolutions it's actually a relatively easy time after we defeat our rival at the end we're crown champion and have beat the game and while we may have all the badges the challenge doesn't stop there we still have one more pokemon to catch if we fly cerulean city we can surf to the cerulean cave this is the final battle the toughest battle out of them all we have to take on mewtwo here we are after hours of grinding to complete the pokedex just to take on the strongest pokemon in the region it'll be a long battle but i know my team has it in them yeah i'm just gonna use the master ball i got and with that we completed the professor oak challenge and pokemon red and blue so in total there are 27 pokemon that can't be obtained if you use one version of pokemon red and blue due to the version exclusives the other starter lines the second fossil trade evolutions ammu it would be interesting to use more than one game but i think this is already a tough enough challenge after i caught mewtwo i ended the game with a time of 82 hours and 17 minutes which is a long time i can guarantee that you can do this in under 60 hours if you get the route down but there were definitely a few times i left the game on idle for a minute or so because i knew i didn't have to meet a time requirement i would love to do other gens like this but i've taken a peek at generation 2 and it's a nightmare of a challenge i don't think i've ever asked for likes for a specific video but if this video can hit something insane like 10 000 likes i'll take on the challenge i had a lot of fun doing this and i honestly encourage you to try it out because of how easy it is to follow i want to thank jamal for creating the challenge and if you can all subscribe to the subreddit that would be greatly appreciated it's a small subreddit and i think it'd be amazing for this to become a really popular challenge i also want to thank nubelder for making the guide for this video normally i make the guides myself but he was nice enough to upload his own guide to the subreddit for everyone to use as a reference all these links will be in the description below if you liked the video leave a like as we're making more content soon if you have any suggestions for videos you'd like to see leave a comment below other than that like to thank you all for watching and i'll catch you on the next one
