Horse Adopter Heroes: Benjamin Finds A New Home

we rescue a lot of horses from auctions but we also rescue donkeys and this is the story of benjamin an orphan little donkey that was thrown away at an auction he was cold scared hungry and needed a friend this little baby donkey is so precious oh you want some loves you want some lovies oh precious baby you little orphan baby donkey is so precious you're just the sweetest thing ever come on no baby [Music] it just seems to help them overall oh my god poor little baby [Music] come on baby [Music] okay [Music] anyways i just know donkeys don't do well and he has a little bit of a goopy nose already so i'm worried about him we'll go ahead and get him some exceed now that's really cute he does not like you trying to examine his undercarriage getting our little baby donkey here everything he needs you can't see because he's so fluffy but the this is a bone right here my hand can go right up to it he's literally just an emaciated little donkey under here of just bones i can feel all his ribs through here his spine he's in rough shape [Music] um [Music] so this precious little baby donkey is is not feeling the best and uh you know he's orphaned he's scared he's been through a lot and we are going to take him down to our special hospital stall it's in the uh office building it's climate controlled and he'll be really comfortable he'll be very comfortable him a little stuffed animal and he can have that as a friend you know it's just being a little orphaned donkey it'd be very very confusing for everything he's been through he only weighs 90 pounds so he's really just a skeleton under under the fluff but he really wants attention and so we're going to take him down there and get him set up for the night and i hope he does really well the controlled building gonna make it buddy there you go okay honey hello bubby okay hold on hold on hold on hold on i'm gonna get in there and help you all right so uh he's he's settled down in there i'm gonna hop in there and we're gonna ride down with him and get him settled all right baby just stay there so sadly we're gonna have to slide him a little bit [Music] and um come on baby come on [Applause] you got some yum yums here's max max is gonna be your friend so you're not alone okay yeah here's your friend and you don't max benjamin is just so sweet everyone is just falling in love with him you're gonna eat your nose he's so gentle though [Music] i have little benjamin in my office ah he likes it when i talk donkey to him [Music] what you doing sarah i am doing inventory in the vet room here and i've got the best little helper special little buddy so benjamin has gained three pounds so far in the last week and we're super proud of him somebody is coming for a visit he wants to know what everyone's doing hi would you like to write here would you like to write what you want to do today huh you want to do something today here you can write down what you want done today you want me to write it for you okay he says you put down feed me treats they want food you want food no i'm not i'm not the food you can eat oh there we go thanks for the help thank you you don't want me to you don't you don't want food what do you want you want treats can we write down want treats no what do you want come on hi buddy little baby benjamin is just so adorable he is exploring all over the place he absolutely loves people and we were asked if he could come to a christmas parade and we said yes because we knew he was going to love it well we are on our way with little benjamin uh to a nativity parade he was invited to and he is doing so well and so full of energy that we decided that it would be great for him to be able to go if for some reason he's not doing well we'll bring him back to the shelter but um he's just an adorable little guy and we're super excited to see how he does uh of all the donkeys i've ever met i think benjamin has had the most exposure to all kinds of things you know from being orphaned and dumped at an auction that had to be really traumatizing to getting rescued and riding in side by sides and now a pickup truck he's going to have an interesting view of normal donkey life but he's an awesome little guy and we'll see how he does tonight yeah so far benjamin's doing really good he's just chilling with me waiting to tell uh this nativity parade is underway so we're just hanging out benjamin's getting to see all kinds of new sights and sounds tonight as much as i love little benjamin i knew that i had to let him go to a new home here at the horse plus humane society we rescue and shelter and protect little donkeys just like benjamin but we're not a sanctuary and for him to live out his days here as much as i love him it wouldn't be fair to him to always have his friends coming and going so we've been working trying to find him the best possible home and i think we found one hello my name is elena and for the past few months i've been researching and looking forward to getting my first donkey i've chosen to get this donkey from horseplus for a couple of reasons first i want to give a loving home to an animal that has likely had a rough past before it was rescued second because i'm a beginner i am glad that they have veterinarians to check them over and trainers ready to help me find the animal to match my experience level i've just finished the application and i'm very grateful that horseplus has given me a clear list of things that need to be in place before i bring my donkey home so let's do this [Music] [Music] i've been building a shelter for my donkey today i was doing post holes and it's the end of the day we have six post holes dug and the next step is to put in the posts yeah it was uh that's okay you need to take it out more i think you need to redo your hole fill it back in and and re-pump and re-plum it you know what i didn't dig this hole who did you this is the very first one so we're roughly gone for like about there okay it's almost on the side of the hole look at this we've put in one pole we're working on our second and after that we have four more to go [Music] hi benjamin oh hi guys oh benjamin there's somebody here to meet you benji man how are you oh aren't you friendly oh yes he is just the sweetest little donkey you could ever meet oh look at you i think you have enough fuzz for two donkeys yes i think you do yeah what do you think benjamin you wanna go outside and go for a little walk with him yeah he was in such horrible shape when we were rescued him i i seriously didn't think he was going to to make it but he's a little survivor he is a little survivor all right benjamin you wanna go outside should we go outside come on does he stay in heated just at night because that's what he's used to does he know his name do you think yes he definitely knows his name come on benjamin how tall do you expect him to be he's a standard sized donkey so he'd be like one of our other standard-sized donkeys [Music] yeah he's got some grass for you after elena and benjamin's first visit i could see that they really had a good connection and i was super excited about it and now he's he's bigger now and he's finally ready to be adopted and we're so i'm so excited for this day it's one i've been waiting for for a long time yeah benjamin boy you look sharp and daddy you do you look so good oh yes spicy boy benjamin's new mom is adopting kona and conan and benjamin have been friends here at our shelter so i'm really happy to see them go together hello hi we need to do some paperwork yes so we're going to start with benjamin and here is his paperwork so this is benjamin's information this is his coggins hey thank you guys thank you so much all right you got all your paperwork done yup awesome well let's drive and head over to your place and get them settled we just got here uh at their new home so i'm gonna get her out and then you can get benjamin um kona is very impatient when it comes to uh being in something she wants to get out she's like yay oh good boy he's so cute see how he jumps out of the trailer and like when i was walking him over to the trailer and there was just a little bottle he just like bang a little back rabbit yes you've been a good boy come on it's like where are we going it's a big trip for you guys smith there you go check out your new home well i'm definitely going to miss little benjamin but i know he's going to have a great home here and he's not terribly far away so i can come see him you know it's i know a lot of our fans and and followers wanted us to keep him as a mascot but with an animal shelter we rescue these animals they need help we can't keep them all and the goal is to find them wonderful loving homes and we know he's he's going to have an awesome home here so it's a very happy day for him so benjamin's story with us is coming to a close the chapter's closing on his his stay with us because he's in his new home now i would just like to thank each and every person who donates to our organization to help us rescue precious little lives like benjamin because if we weren't at the auction that night i don't think benjamin would be alive today um he was he was a uh just amazing miracle story right before christmas and now he's got a wonderful new life and home here and um just very
