it's back now with a new series yeah the sketch show features performances from some of the uk's best known comedians we'll talk to two other performance Lawrence Ricard and Matthew Benton in the moment first is look at this afternoon's episode but indeed seem that the queen is seeing are the men behind the Kings back and it's as as we feared we should inform his majesty yes of course did you know how his moods are yes he does tend to behead the messenger indeed then there is only one man for the job only one man who could break such terrible news to His Majesty King Henry the Eighth don't mean yes will Somers you cold stark ha so what seems to be the problem gentlemen Catherine Howard ah another man of several oh dear that is a pickle yes and we need to tell the King so he can arrange a divorce or a beheading or something mm-hmm and Lawrence recalde Mathew Baynton dryness now morning to both morning you really had no fun at all making this earth to do a miserable time wasn't it yeah sure it was it's nice thing nice thing to get to get paid to do something like that it looks like fun and it is was tremendously good fun huh how would you describe it for the uninitiated because I was kind of saying to be Larry it's sort of like life of brian with Blackadder that's how I see it but I don't hate any better more I would have said my there's definitely a Monty Python influence to it but everything is true that's the unique thing about this is that however ridiculous things might seem it sir it's all based on fact yeah from from the outset sort of you know the guidance we were given was everything had to be factual and everything had to be funny and not sort of funny in there it will be okay a kid or laughter that you know to something which was funny for a family audience so children laughing and hopefully well idea no I was thinking watching it's a shame it's on CBBC because I did it is very very program em it's something I thought can't believe that there's bit about the Roman Emperor whose name was a mystery to me like a Naga bonus where did he is that his real name look true it something i think he was 16 when he became emperor yeah and he'd been executed by the time he was 18 oh he didn't last long he didn't last very long because he did things like throwing live snakes at the crowd in the gladatorial game yeah he was a very weird sitting maybe sadism his dinner guests eat rocks yeah dressed as fruits yeah he was the ultimate trouble Santino yes exactly sour as well do you think that then cave IV but have I with you got children no no so just sort of wondering do you think kids actually learn the facts the historical facts date and he was around and when or is it more just the greasing stories that they absolutely love think then I think it's both and they certainly do seem to take it in this kind of done slightly by stealth in that you're laughing to not aware that you're learning but like in the last series was a song about the the wiser King Henry the eighth and now a number of children I sort of said to us now they remember who they are the order in which they died how they died because that came in from looking at the so on the series yeah it's learning where those songs in particular they learn off by heart yeah yes well let's have a look at one of those songs the Spartans school musical here we go hey all you helots you zealots you Peloponnesians you like a demon's all of Leonidas army let's get barmy the Spartan school musical come on today I'm starting high school with boys a turn too man I packed my sword and shield p don't use paper min pan everyone's a jock here we don't have partnered for we the kids were left to die aspect with all the birds we're taught to love a fight we're taught not to be make and if we could they be the Pisgah meals every week Willie missing is Gerard Butler yeah yeah he was busy that's a family dates you know we have to get through them but before he was collapse laughing usually quite a few actually mmm yeah every now and then we have to take five minutes and i myself am um is it based on the terry deary books presumably but you've had a lot of extra writing talent drawn in over the in the past that's quite a big writing team involved and so the the books are there in the meetings and we look through them and we use those for inspiration for sketches but and you both contribute in terms of writing as well I thought came on the first series as a writer and then kept turning up at the studio and I sort of became an actor in it or one of the core cast by stealth and Matt was acting the first series and but the approach the material was always been there's so much decided to it in performance that the two it's quite sort of natural for have you got a favorite my favorite period of horrible history ourselves I like wearing beards as a concern i'm not very good at growing really like doing the viking so I like like that was a lot good and the Cowboys you know any day we walk into a costume trailer in there like choose your hat and gun that's a good day you just get to revert to childhood what best fact that you've come across I don't have a lager Barla stuff was always really good I liked him he'd put a lion in one of the rooms in these pallets as a practical joke so when people snuck in there for a lot yeah they'd be eaten yeah that's it that's an audacious break what is the Cowboys do that was well I mean lots of horrible things particularly focused on in the service well a lot of the good things I think are about what people didn't do that we didn't think they did so one of the cowboy things is a song about the fact that really what they did was just herd cattle and all the exciting things all I think about them aren't really Medicare not only did well as much the one huge amounts of gunfights because they be unionized so whenever there was a disagreement they cool their union rep look guys you know just get back to the cows were all bit we've all had a drink so you know I love it engines have elders we have union reps the Cowboys you have your answer it's the same principle isn't it but they get Cory union rep yeah and also you know they weren't sort of big stocky fellows because they'd spend all day on a horse so good to be quite wire went small and wiry yeah yeah okay Hollywood's got a lot of answer for them yes yeah John wait guys thanks very much thank you very much all the best with it and horrible histories is on the CBBC channel every day this week from 5 15 p.m. and on tuesdays from next week should be peak viewing it really we should all get look at
