this first saturday of the month we offer this mass today in reparation to the immaculate heart of mary and for vocations the priesthood diaconate and religious life let us also pray in thanksgiving to god for richard and his worth on his birthday that god in his love and mercy may grant him abundant blessings and for ill hitarachi hitarachichi whose anniversary of death are called this time that god may continue to grant here a happy place in his kingdom we pray also in thanksgiving to god for anthony estrada who celebrate his birthday today and all those who spend their call today we pray for the sick members of our families and our parish community here especially for emily har who is currently sick in malaysia and for barry mills who is currently sink recovered in india and for a recovery of gas experience and other sick members of our parish community let us begin our mass in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen the grace of our lord jesus christ and the love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all and with your spirit we are gathered in the presence of god the holy one is here with us and jesus in our gospel reading today tells us that every sinner has a place in god's heart as sinners gathered around the table of the lord to prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries let us acknowledge our sins and ask for god's pardon and forgiveness i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly seen in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and what i failed to do through my fault through my fault through my mouse who useful therefore i ask the blessed mary ever hurt you all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may your bread to the hungry and relief to the oppressed your lights will rise in the darkness and your shadows will become like noon the lord will always guide you giving you relief in desert places he will give strength to your bones and you shall be like a watered garden like a spring of water whose waters never run dry you will rebuild the ancient ruins build up on the found on build up on the old foundations you will be called breach mender restorer of ruined houses if you refrain from trampling the sabbath and doing business on the holy day if you call the sabbath delightful and the day o lord that i may be faithful in your sight [Music] lord jesus christ i do not wish the sinner to die says the lord but to turn to me [Music] lord jesus christ the lord be with you and with your spirit reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you oh lord jesus noticed a task collector levi by name sitting by the customs house and he said to him follow me and live in everything he got up and followed him in his honor levi held a great reception in his house and with them at table was a large gathering of task collectors and others the pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples and said why do you eat and drink with us collectors and sinners jesus said to them in reply it is not those who are well who needs the doctor for the sick i have not come to call the virtuous but sinners to repentance the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ every sinner has a place in god's heart as we advance in our learning journey on this day three the first reading has given us a checklist of what we ought to do as christians religion is meant to make people better and not worse unfortunately many people have used religion as a tool for oppression for division for suppression and for judging others in that first reading we are told what we need to do is not to be oppressed to do away with the yoke of the oppressor to be kind to be compassionate not to gossip to treat others the way we would like to be treated and so on and so forth and when we do so our light will shine as bright as the stars in heaven i would think maybe after this mass find time again go back to that first reading and go through it can you make yourself a checklist of what you ought to do during the season of lent because if you want to do proper shopping most of the time we do a shopping list isn't it and then you take it with you to the shop so we have been given handed a checklist for our lenten season as we begin this journey today the pharisees and the scribes in our gospel reading were considered to be the religious leaders at the time of jesus they were also considered by the people as the holy ones so every every jew considered them to be the closest people to god and so when the pharisees and the scribes saw jesus eating and drinking with sinners rather than hailing him or praising him or thanking god that more sinners are becoming better people what do they do they grumbled they complained why do you think they complained because that that sinner doesn't deserve such treatment here we are we are the holy ones we are the one that observed the rule jesus wouldn't visit us he wouldn't come and eat with us he should be eating with people like us why is he eating with people like that even letting sinners touching him rubbing hands with him because among the jews when they go out from their home as part of their religious obligation on entering their home they have to do some bit of absolution ablution sorry they wash their hands as far as they are able in case they unknowingly may have touched someone who is a sinner out there and for them for jesus deliberately allowing sinners to touch him means that he allow himself to be contaminated why should he allow that to happen and i'm sure the response from jesus would have taken them by surprise he said i have come not for the righteous or for the virtues but for sinners most times we behave like these scribes and the pharisees we feel we already have occupied the most important place in god's heart and no one else should take that place no one else deserve that blessing and when we see people who we think haven't done as good many good things as we have done and god blessing them we get jealous we get angry why is god blessing them why is everything working out for them and for us nothing seems to be working out let us try to remove or eliminate this for a sake attitude in us it's like a virus that must be destroyed else it destroys you there is no point to be jealous against or about others if you are truly a religious person it is not about doing your obligation but about making yourself a better person you should have a place in your heart to be compassionate with sinners and to understand that god has a place for everyone in our gospel acclamation he says i did not desire a sinner to die but to repent and leave and there are some of us too who on certain occasions or sometimes are like this poor task collector who left everything behind and follow jesus at his invitation and we are struggling we are trying our best we don't even understand the bible we don't even understand the faith maybe you came from another faith but the people around you are not encouraging you you don't feel welcome among the group and then you start getting discouraged don't be discouraged god has a place for you and there are other times too that some of us will feel well we are too sinful that we don't deserve to go close to god i've told you a story of a lady who doesn't come to mass but uses the the car park of the ma of the parish it was the same bishop who had this experience that shared it with us during one of our retreats i've heard that story before but i didn't know it was him until he started sharing the story with us again this lady wouldn't come to church but she always used the car park to go to work leave her car in the parish shop in the parish car park and when they when they asked him when the bishop asked him he was in prison he said that is the closest i can come to god i can't go closer than that because i am a sinner people like that are the ones who have special place in god's heart because she acknowledged that she is a sinner but if you acknowledge that you're a sinner don't just condemn yourself don't excommunicate yourself from god's presence if you don't come close to him how do you receive his blessings god doesn't discriminate he doesn't punish us according to our sins no repeals according to our thoughts his hands are always open to welcome sinners if you think you are a sinner then this is the time for you to start working closer to god this season of lent is a perfect time for you it's a time of god's mercy is a time when god has granted us an opportunity to come it's a time when god wants us to renew our relationship with him and with ourselves it's a time when god wants to offer us another opportunity for a fresh beginning it's a time when god wants to fix your life it's a time when god wants to fix your marriage he wants to fix your family this is the time but to enable god do that we must acknowledge that we are sinners in need of his mercy and if we truly need his mercy we must approach him with an open heart with joy like this tax collector who doesn't think he deserved to be invited by jesus and when jesus said to him follow me he left everything immediately and followed him and enjoy he he invited his friends to come and celebrate this great invitation this invitation is thrown to us every day jesus is inviting us not to come and dine in our home but he is inviting us to come and dine with him he has prepared a banquet of love and the food he has prepared for us is not made of human stuff is his own body we have this opportunity every day we could be more than this if everyone answered this invitation today and there are others who for no reason are just lying at home doing nothing and maybe in the comfort of their bed enjoying this mass from their bedroom you have been invited like everyone else here too and he wants us to come and share the banquet of his love let us take this invitation seriously because to begin with none of us here including myself deserve to share the banquet with christ and this is the highest honor we can receive reporters or letters receive it and he grabbed the opportunity inviting his friends and celebrating it so each time we come to mass it's a joyful celebration for us because we are coming to dying with christ so let us pray that god may under give us the grace to understand the nature of the invitation he's thrown out for us and also for the grace to be able to make use of this opportunity he has given us may god bless you our response to the prayer today is divine healer because whole divine healer make us whole christ came to call sinners offering them salvation with humility of spirit aware of his call and this invitation let us bring our prayers to the father as we say divine healer make us whole [Music] that the church may be seen as the healing home of the work and in our families we may not be fault finders let us pray to the lord divine healer make us and that the dead may experience the saving power of god let us pray to the lord divine healer make give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you things lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for by your gracious gift each year your faithful awaits the sacred paschal feast with the joy of mind made pure so that more eagerly intent on prayer and on the works of charity and participating in the mysteries by which they have been reborn they may be led to the fullness of grace that you based all on your sons and daughters and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions and with all the hosts and powers of heaven we sing the hymn of your glory as without end we are clear holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory husana in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy oh lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like they do for so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving things gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith we proclaim your death o lord and profess your resurrection until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and break our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coerced to eternal life may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in homebound or in a nursing home if you are well enough to go to the shop well enough to go to work or other places i think the live streamers is no longer for you so have a think about it because it's one thing to be able to do this mass to reach out to you during the lockdown but now lockdown is over i don't know if anyone is still under lockdown except for those who have to isolate so please if you are participating in this mass from home the church is safe enough for you now to attend and so you can see there are a lot of people here and they are all safe don't you feel safe so please i'm appealing to those who are participating on in an online masses to begin to think of attending mass in the church in your various parishes if you are not from our parish we are not going to stop the livestream masses because of that we will continue to livestream the mass for the sake of those who genuinely cannot go to church that i'm appealing to those who now are participating and making that their first option to have a think about it secondly after the final blessing we are going to expose the blessed sacrament for adoration and prayer during that prayer especially as we do our first saturday prayer today i'd like you to pray for peace in ukraine between ukraine and russia so that god will put an end to the crisis there that is causing a lot of humanitarian crisis in europe at the moment we also have be available for confessions today and next saturday which is uh 12th or so of this month we are not going to have the 9 30 mass as usual the mass will be at 11 o'clock in the morning it will be a diaconate ordination mass the bishop will be celebrating that mass alongside with all our clergy members in the diocese so we expect people from other parts of the diocese to be in attendance here in the church if you are coming please come a bit early to enable you get a place to get pack your car to get settled for our regular parishioners if you could please avoid the upper car park the one in front of the parish hall for the visitors who are coming especially the priests will be coming from other places to enable them park their cars there so that session is going to be reserved for them for the priest and the bishop so please help us so that we can help you better and after that mass there will be a reception for those who want to rejoice with mark use who is lamp and put it under a bushel basket it is set on a lampstand where it gives light to all in the house just so your light must shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly father [Music] fourth luminous mystery the transfiguration of jesus after six days jesus took peter james and john his brother and led them up a high mountain by themselves and he was transfigured before them while he was still speaking behold a bright cloud cast a shadow over them then from the cloud came a voice that said this is my beloved son with whom i am well pleased listen to him [Music] fifth luminous mystery the institution of the holy eucharist jesus took bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this and eat it this is my body and taking the chalice drink of this for this is my blood of the new testament which shall be shed for many unto the remission of sins the first sorrowful mystery the agony in the garden afterwards drawing about a stone's throw from them and kneeling he prayed saying father if you are willing take this cup away from me still not my will but yours be done and to strengthen him an angel from heaven appeared to him he was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground the second sorrowful mystery the scourging at the pillar jesus answered pilate you say i am a king for this i was born and for this i came into the world to testify to the truth everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice pilate said to him what is truth when he had said this he again went out to the jews and said to them i find no guilt in him then pilate took jesus and had him scourged the third sorrowful mystery the crowning with thorns leaving a crown of thorns they fixed it on his head and placed a reed in his right hand to make fun of him they knelt before him saying hail king of the jews they spat on him and took the reed and kept striking him on the head [Music] the fourth sorrowful mystery the caring of the cross when the soldiers had finished mocking him they led him away to be crucified on the way they laid hold of a certain simon of cyrene coming from the country and upon him they laid the cross to bear it after jesus [Music] the fifth sorrowful mystery the crucifixion and death of jesus when they came to the place called the skull they crucified him jesus said father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour and jesus cried out with a loud voice father into your hands i commend my spirit the first glorious mystery the resurrection of jesus and looking up they saw that the stone had been rolled back for it was very large on entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting at the right side who said to them do not be afraid you are looking for jesus of nazareth who was crucified he is risen he is not here behold the place where they laid him [Music] the second glorious mystery the ascension of jesus then he had led them out as far as bethany raised his hands and blessed them as he blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven they did him homage and then returned to jerusalem with great joy and they were continually in the temple praising god the third glorious mystery is the descent of the holy spirit all these devoted themselves to prayer in one accord together with some and mary the mother of jesus and there appeared to them parted tongues as a fire which settled upon each of them they were filled with the holy spirit and began to speak in foreign tongues even as the holy spirit prompted them to speak the fourth glorious mystery is the assumption of mary arise my beloved my beautiful one and come you are all beautiful my beloved and our very being and our whole life all that we have all that we love all that we are to you we give our bodies our hearts and our souls to you we give our homes our families and our country we desire that all that is in us and around us we belong to you and may share in the benefits of your motherly benediction and that this act of consecration may be truly fruitful and lasting we renew this day at thy feet the promises of our baptism and our first holy communion we desire to profess courageously and at all times the truths of our holy faith and to live as befits catholics who are submissive to all directions of the pope and the bishops in communion with him we desire to keep the commandments of god and his church in particular to keep holy the lord's day we desire to make the consoling practices of the christian religion and above all holy communion an integral part of our lives as much as we shall be able to do so finally we desire a glorious mother of god and our loving mother to devote ourselves wholeheartedly to your service in order to hasten and assure through the sovereignty of your immaculate heart the coming of the kingdom of the sacred heart of your adorable son in our
