hello and welcome back to another hearts of iron 4 video so today as you saw in the title there's going to be another one of my subscriber critique videos this one today is for the turkish empire as part of the new battle for the bosporus dlc now i was on steam the other day i already announced it on my channel i've selected the two winners i still haven't heard back anything from either one of those people so if you're one of the few people who actually entered i think we had something like 2-300 people that signed up maybe more uh if you're any of those people keep in mind that if these people don't respond i've said that like four times now if they don't respond within about a week here i'm just gonna select two new people so keep an eye on your steam i'll be adding you as a friend on there since that's really the only way i can do it outside of sending them an email so i'm going to fire that off tonight as well but i just want to keep you guys updated and let you guys know that the winners were selected and they have been announced anyways as for the review today or at least the critique we're going to be going through this save file obviously it's pretty late in the game and things are not going well i tried to save this but there's really just no hope at this point you're fighting two monster factions the soviets and the allies who have multiple fronts already open here it's just unrealistic so again this is more of a critique and not a save but i will be going through everything that i possibly can to explain what went wrong and where you could actually improve for next time so then that way you guys can carry this over into your own games so without further ado let's get right into the video okay so first things first i'm just gonna say there isn't any particular structure to this video it's just me basically going through everything that i possibly can but i'm going to try and basically go left to right on here and we're just going to start with the generals very simplistic and easy to get through so for starters here you have generals that are over assigned if you hover over here you can actually check the penalty on each general it's really important that you don't oversupply a general with too many troops because otherwise their skills and bonuses get severely hindered because of that so you can see here you've only got six extra divisions but you've cut their penalty or their penalty they're incurring is 25 that's pretty significant it means that your troops are going to be a lot less effective when it comes to actually using that general obviously if you don't normally assign generals well it doesn't really matter in that case but you always want to avoid that as much as possible unless you're just simply trying to upgrade them through experience and level them up really quickly having extra troops in there can actually help make it go faster so that's just one thing i wanted to point out other thing here i don't know i'm assuming you were readjusting things that's why you don't have a field marshal assigned but you should still have a field marshal yeah i can see here you've i think what you were doing here you've got a field marshall as a general yeah these are field marshals here and they're not actually leading anyone so you want to make sure that you keep your field marshal as leaders because they're going to apply bonuses then the generals apply bonuses and these guys are going to actually earn experience while just sitting on this tab so it's actually important that you still keep them on there and if you ever need anyone just use your command power up here or your political power just use that it's cheap it's not that expensive if you really need them so just keep that in mind for the future you want to have the generals and the field marshals assigned onto the proper slots and if i'm not mistaken you don't actually get the bonuses so um let's see here if we hover over this yeah so he's got a deduction there i'm not mistaken i'm pretty sure they don't work or at least they didn't work in previous versions of the game um so it is still important but that's only a minor thing anyways decisions here there's really not that much to go through there's nothing really so i'm not going to critique that spies you don't have anything on here could be simply because you don't have the law resistance dlc so we're going to ignore that if you do have the law resistance dlc though definitely make use of these spies you've got more than enough factories here so it's not going to hinder your industry those spies will give you intelligence which reduces the enemy's planning and entrenchment so it means they're a lot less effective when they attack and you give yourself bonuses from that intelligence plus you can conduct missions if you desire or you can use it to simply raise compliance in these territories and make it a lot easier to capitulate them so say for example you're fighting the soviets just like this if you had their compliance maxed out you could actually skip a bunch of these um really big capital points you wouldn't actually even need to push all the way to leningrad you could basically just push to moscow and take the southern areas and you would have defeated them so that's just something to keep in mind for the future if you've got law resistance utilize it if not don't worry about it research now we're going to go through everything so biggest mistake i can already tell you went all along the top branch meanwhile you've skipped the bottom this is a very rookie mistake the last thing you should be doing is these you want to focus on getting through these lower branches first because you can see here this one gives you heart attack and piercing that makes your infantry a lot more effective against tanks and it also affects your motorized mechanized but because you've got purely infantry this just makes your units a lot more beefy and the fact that it's only 70 days on these two really really worth it so you want to make sure you're doing these before the top ones because these only give you defense and breakthrough five percent defense and breakthrough on each one these ones are going to make your stats a lot better on top of that if you actually had even these guns here 1939 guns you should absolutely have in your country here that would make you a lot better and then this one as well it's soft attack soft attack is more important than defense because if you're an aggressive country and you're fascist which is normally the case you want higher soft attack than defense that's just my belief personally but you definitely should be doing these ones before the top branch but obviously they should still be done roughly at the same time and then you didn't do anything else in here which i don't really have a problem with the only thing you could do is mechanize just to raise the mechanized hardness so it makes those true survive a little bit longer if you've got them in your divisions if not don't worry about that one now for your supports here we're going to go through your templates a little later but you went with recon and military police you can skip military police you really don't need to do this if you need a good unit to garrison anything simply just make a copy of your cavalry division and then fill it with cavalry and save that and then set that for your resistance suppression because overall they're really cheap they still suppress resistance just fine it's infantry equipment it's not that big of a deal and overall they work great so there's no real reason you should be doing military police um i fundamentally disagree with anyone doing this personally if you really need it though sure but at the end of the day you can always just design another template and use that instead because you've still got tons of army experience so there's no reason you should really be doing this my recommendation though for support companies though if you're looking for some recon is really good engineer those two are probably one of the best then after that maintenance i sometimes use it sometimes i don't uh field hospitals 50 50 again but the other two that are really important signal and logistics this reduces supply in each area so you don't suffer attrition nearly as bad uh and then the signal company just allows you to get in combat faster so it's great in that regard armor you've done heavy or you've done mediums up to three nothing wrong with that mediums are better to go with than your light tanks and heavies i personally just don't use but there's nothing wrong with it whatever you prefer is fine um so nothing wrong here i like the fact that you've done medium tanks so that's good artillery you went with anti-tank and artillery and you've got these basically fully maxed out but see here this is just another thing i don't know what you were going to do with research but you should definitely finish these they're 30 days they don't take long so get them done give yourself every bonus possible and just make your troops that much stronger anti-air you could do if you really wanted but rocket artillery it's not very good at all okay so now that we are on the land doctrine tab here it seems you went mass assault doctrine and you went mass mobe now biggest problem with that i can tell you right now so your core manpower is 9.5 um 9.15 you have four 177 million as your non-core so if we just simply go over here you can see your conscription law is still only two and a half percent now um from your land auction that you're doing here if we just go back you can see that overall the only thing it does here is raise recruitment by five percent on top of any other bonuses that you have nowhere else does it raise recruitment problem is that's what mass mobe is really suited for as well as resistance suppression and growth in the territory that the enemy country takes from you so because of that this is probably one of the worst branches you could actually go with uh for this country you would have been a lot better going off with grand battle plan superior firepower or even deep battle if you really want to stick with over here um simply because you just get better bonuses out of this you can make your infantry only army which is i think what you're primarily using you can reduce the combat widths by quite a lot and still get a ton out of these divisions so i highly recommend that in the future you stick away from mass mobilization it's really only suited for a few countries um normally smaller ones honestly i just don't think this was a good fit you could have gone with one of these two and had a lot more success and made your divisions a lot more beefy so it's just something i wanted to point out i think that's one thing you did wrong especially because you didn't raise your conscription lot you could have just gone to service by requirement and you would have had basically the exact same effect you would have just had a slightly reduced construction speed in factory output but the effect would be marginal if it means that your land doctrine is a lot more effective so i just wanted to point that out to you and now we are going to head on to your navy and air doctrine and then the last two tabs okay so i'm just on your navy tab right now it's pretty clear you haven't done anything so i imagine you have absolutely no ships produced and we can actually just quickly check that in the production tab okay so you have some battleships and a few other things probably from national focuses let's just double check okay you do have a few ships here uh looks like you didn't actually use any of them though so uh because of that is your navy in here no anyways either way um that's not really something that's a huge concern if you haven't i guess really conquered anything by land or defeated any enemies that's not a big issue um so i'm not really going to focus on that one air doctrine though big thing here so you researched later models biggest problem is if you've researched these models you should be doing air doctrines along with that and i can see you have some air experience so if you're going to research those later models you absolutely need to pick a branch now i can see you went with fighters and close air in that case go with battlefield support that's what it's most suited for that's basically what it's built around is close air support and fighters so battlefield support is what you should have done and by even getting a few of these researched your fighters and ground support would have been way more effective than simply just upgrading these models um because the effects are on some of these up to 20 air superiority bonuses that's going to affect it a lot more than just simply upgrading the model once so that's something you should be really doing in the future if you want to go a strat bomber route either one of these can work well strategic destruction is great for that though but you can use operational integrity as well but stick away from battlefield support if that's what you're really focused on so that's just something to keep in mind for the future now as for your engineering tab you have everything done here on mechanical computing and the research side of things that's great i see nothing wrong with that you could have done atomic research if you really wanted that extra bonus but if there were other things that you were doing at the time it's not a big issue what's really important though finish these as soon as they're available and i can't tell if you did that so i'm going to assume that you did in this case i see nothing wrong with your engineering tab now as for industry here you went with concentrated now overall this isn't technically a bad choice simply because when we go on your production here you're still producing the early models so technically speaking you did it the right way that's what concentrated works really well for you're maximizing the absolute highest output and you're keeping production on those guns for the longest period of time possible biggest problem is though you miss out on a lot of those bonuses because you're only producing early models of equipment if you compare something like artillery 1 to artillery 3 the stats on that are going to be two or three times higher so if you went with concentrated especially considering you have a lot of factories i only recommend concentrated when you have a small number of factories in other words you can't change production because you're going to have a small number of troops you want to give them the max amount of equipment that you can that's something where concentrated works better when you have a large industry like this especially when you have 80 mils disperse works better you're going to be wanting to keep everything upgraded as fast as possible you want to have the best equipment out as fast as possible while still maintaining as much production as possible and that's what this dispersed is going to do that's what it's going to do so there's nothing else for me to really say there other than you did it right but at the same time you did it wrong simply because your country is large enough that you should have been going with dispersed now you went with streamlined production that's great flexible production lines i don't like um if you went with concentrated then obviously streamlined if you were smart about it you could have technically gone with a flexible line and that would have allowed you to rapidly upgrade your models since you went with concentrated and you don't get that retention in there but it's only 20 and your production efficiency cap is 10. this one technically works either way though so nothing really big you did all of these nothing wrong with that completely skipped the advanced oil processing though that is just useless because i don't know if you built refineries i'm assuming that you didn't so in that case it makes no sense for you to go with oil processing because it only affects refineries whereas fuel refining will give you the absolute highest benefit possible to your oil production that's what's really going to be the game changer especially because you didn't even finish fuel refining you finished these two before that finish these first never finish rubber processing and oil processing before you get these done and i mean that get these to the 1943 or 1941 level before you even think about touching these because these rely solely on synthetic factories meaning you have to build them so it's just kind of a useless focus unless you're desperate for rubber but never even bother with the oil processing i think it's just a bad focus to do so get that fuel refining done and you should be a lot more successful in the future so at this point in time we're just going to quickly go through the national focus tree just to double check everything then we're going to go through the advisors and lastly we'll be looking at the division templates just to see what you actually did as well as your production line so we can actually check all of that so uh oh okay so you are in fact playing on vanilla since you that's interesting so you have the default national focus trees in that case there's nothing for me to really look at here honestly there's nothing so i'm just not really even going to focus on that one so at this point what we're going to do like i said we'll just double check the advisors make sure everything makes sense in that case it does armor division okay so you have armor here but if we check here you have four tank divisions if you're ever going to select an advisor make sure they're actually useful to you you could have done an infantry attack and defense expert and in that case you would have given your all of your infantry extra 10 attack and 15 defense you would have also been smart to do the army regrouping here which gives recovery rate eight percent and then lastly the armor division attack because these are only four units meanwhile you have another 160 that are infantry it makes no sense at all to select an armor expert when this is what makes up almost 99 of your army so keep that in mind for the future and they will be a lot better you went with division attack which is great you have a military theorist that's good research speed on electronics nothing wrong with that technically you could go with any of these other ones but it's up to you there you went with artillery um again nothing wrong with that if that's what you're really focused on infantry and weapons is also good never go with motorized completely useless unless that's really what you want to build your army around and then you didn't pick anything else here if you were producing fighters though you should be selecting a light aircraft because when you research them you would have given them an extra 10 on their agility and speed so just keep that in mind nothing else i can really say here you're on war economy which is good the only thing here you're on closed economy which is interesting i usually just keep it on limited exports i never go closed economy because i don't ever find myself running out of resources my best guess is you switched to this simply because all of your allies died so you needed to utilize everything within your territory possible so that's my guess why you did it in that case though there's nothing wrong with it just for the future though if you do have the resources available even if you're only slightly behind keep it unlimited and just trade with those other countries it just works out better that way because you'll make up a few civs at least with other countries actually purchasing your goods and they give you civilian factories in return for the resources that you're trading away so just keep that in mind now the last thing we're going to do here is just check out all of your division templates and see what you did exactly so we have these guys here they're 28.2 width and that is an interesting template so i've said this before in a lot of my videos keep your units in even numbers 10 20 and 40. that's what you want to keep your units at because that would most utilize the combat width of the area that you're fighting in if you have something like a 28.2 you can technically be limiting yourself because if you had an extra infantry division for an example i know it doesn't work out or it does work out slightly in that case you've already fit one more unit and you can get more troops in combat so it makes complete sense to do that the reason we keep these even though is because that's where combat width works it goes i believe 20 40 60 80 and then 100 120 blah blah blah just keeps going depending on the width of the region or the number of provinces you're attacking from so by doing that you maximize the number of divisions think of it this way you have a division that's 30 combat width and the area you're attacking in is 40 with your enemy who has a 40 width unit will pulverize you simply because they're maximizing the combat width of the area so that's why it's really important that you have the right combat width otherwise you're just under utilizing your troops again there's nothing technically wrong with this you have decent soft attack values and heart attack if you had just maximized this template though you could have bumped these numbers up a little bit more and probably had more success in combat the only other thing i would say here though you didn't add any supports in that's a rookie mistake you should at least have some support like i said when i went through those support companies earlier a logistics and recon you have recon researched and you've maximized it so i don't know why you don't have it on your biggest units that's the perfect place to be using support companies if you're ever going to not have them in a template put just don't put them in the small ones if you have something that's a garrison unit guarding a port they don't need support companies if you really have to pick and choose because you don't have enough equipment put it in the biggest divisions because that will maximize their stats and make them the best units overall especially because they're already using so much equipment if you have logistics in there that could be the difference between you burning through twenty thousand guns or ten thousand because those big units typically have attrition on them regardless of what you're doing they're going to have attrition so having a logistics in here could like i said be the difference between you burning twenty thousand or ten thousand guns just depends on how the attrition is going um so just keep that in mind you need support equipment or support companies and you also need to maximize the space available in your units mountaineers these are default so there's nothing to go through there these guys i'm assuming are your garrison units again nothing wrong you could throw support artillery in though just for an added little bit of soft attack c plus 30 makes a big difference and it's extremely cheap it's 12 artillery and you have 6 000 in storage absolutely use the support artillery it's just another cheap little support company that you can throw in for 10xb and that will beef up your units considerably cavalry you haven't changed anything here so i don't know if you're using those it didn't seem like it tank divisions you researched all those tanks but you never produced any and you have them set as light tanks so i'm not exactly certain what to say there let me just double check to make sure you aren't so you're producing light tanks three um okay so in that case let me just say right now if you're gonna take the time to research a tank and you haven't won the war you better be using it otherwise research something else don't research things that you're not going to use now or in the future if you had planned to use light tanks from the start stick with light tanks don't waste your time researching an extra four slots and wasting almost a year researching stuff that you don't need that could have been something where if we go back here these three you could have actually put on your guns and you would be up to this level right here so it's just another simple little thing just change that around and the other thing here you need motorized your organization is 12 so these guys are going to get steamrolled regardless of what you're doing you need motorized and you need support companies your tanks are what are going to be pushing through the enemy the most so because of that you want to have them beefed up and surviving as long as possible having a recon company the support artillery and anti-air maintenance companies work great for that anything like that you want to fit support companies into here and in the future stick with those mediums they'll survive a lot better and they don't cost that much compared to a light tank you only need tungsten and turkey has tungsten so there's no reason for you to not produce these just keep that in mind it's worth it to go with mediums but if you're going to stick with light tanks just stick with light tanks don't research the mediums as well now as for your coast guard you didn't change anything so i don't know what you're doing there this is your garrison division okay so you went with a 16 with and a military police technically nothing wrong with that if you were smart about this though you could have just gone with this division right here this one that's the six and then thrown military police in would have been almost the exact same and you could have thrown support artillery in and it would work out just fine they don't need to be this big ten width is normally all you need and military police if you really want to back that up with anything but that's my recommendation take it or leave it keep it around 10 with you don't need big divisions if you're going to use military police like that motorized divisions default again you need support companies and get these up to 20 widths and the big 40 this is just a garbage division i don't even know what to say never use pure infantry it's just a horrible division you have 157 soft attack watch this one two three four you're now almost double okay so you're double your soft attack your breakthroughs up almost 20 defense is hardly down heart attack is up by four hp barely dropped this is a good unit now although it's a 45 width so take these out and you'll be having a great time pure infantry 40 wits with no support companies are as bad as it gets i just there's nothing else i can say and it almost seems like a troll division at this point because it's just mindless i don't know what to say to that um so the last thing we're going to do here is just go through your production and your logistics and just see what you did here okay so your infantry equipment you have almost 50 factories on there i know part of that is because you've already had territory taken so i guess nothing wrong there the reason you're producing so many guns though is like i just said you're producing 40 wits that are pure infantry you need other things in there they will have better stats they will survive longer you won't need to put so many factories on these just a logistics company alone probably could have allowed you to put only 35 on here and you would have been fine um so it's really important that you're not over i don't know supplying these factories don't put too many of them on one thing you're just limiting yourself in the long run you went with artillery one again like i said earlier in the game it's technically not wrong if you're a very small country but because you have enough of an industry available you should have been producing later models you're just hurting yourself by keeping this the exact same and you already have 6000 in storage you could switch this right now and if you weren't on a huge defense right now you probably could have actually no you definitely could have finished switching this over and getting the production all the way to maximum before you would have run out of artillery the only way you would have run out of artillery is if you just went on a huge offensive and attack non-stop so just keep that in mind for the future switch these light tanks we've already gone through that enough i think like i said the reason why you're producing so many of these right now and you're still in the negative is because you haven't properly utilized your light tanks you didn't get them to 20 with you didn't add motorized you have no organization meaning they're really easy to kill for the enemy because they just can't stay in combat for more than a few seconds and you have no support companies so you got to change that for the future or use medium tanks that's another thing but still back that up with motorized that's what's going to get your organization up and give you soft attack uh improved anti-tank this is interesting though you went with an anti-tank too but you're still producing artillery one considering you only have this in one division and you have it as a support company you definitely should have not done that um the number of factories you've got on it though is fine that's technically nothing wrong with that um but again get that artillery two out before this this is gonna have less of an effect than this one especially because your enemy isn't going to have that many tanks especially if they were fighting the germans at the same time as you they're probably not going to have more than four tank divisions on here so it makes no sense to have really high level anti-tank when you don't need it although again you didn't put that many factories on it so i can tell it wasn't a big problem for you support equipment you've got a huge stockpile so i don't know if you had a lot on here the reason you've got a big stockpile though um you didn't use any in your supports you need support companies to actually use this engineers or something that's what's going to use support equipment so i can see why you have a bit of a stockpile and then improved artillery i don't know why you have this on here i don't know if you were just planning on switching it and then things just kind of blew up or what but definitely like i said get this going and that's going to help you a lot so at this point there isn't all that much for me to go through here i'm just going to check the losses to better understand this a little bit so italy's almost dead they've taken a lot of losses same with yourself you've taken a fair bit the bulk of it is from the soviet union and the uk one thing i can tell you right now though as i see that you have a whole stack of divisions over here when i was looking earlier who is it there was somebody over here okay so it's only this guy all right that's not a big deal either way though if the war is getting to this point you're probably better off just starting again so that's basically everything i wanted to go through here today ultimately like i always say in a lot of my videos this isn't meant to be an insult to anyone or make you feel bad i'm just trying to get you to understand what you're doing wrong and what things you can actually change to make your games more successful i do like though how you decided to go through iran here and attack the british raj that was a smart choice it's free factories free land and free resources very simple same with down here again you're just attacking small countries and you helped italy take over africa that's a really good move very smart but again just for the future be a little more careful about what you're doing um because you went through the raj obviously you have to defend in here which is really really easy so you probably should have kept very few divisions over here and focused almost the entirety of your enemy or your army on pushing through the balkans um or not the balkans but these regions through here the caucuses if you push through this you're gonna have a lot more success because the soviets will just throw wave after wave against your troops and then once they're weak you can just push all the way up north don't help romania push through their territory especially because it gives them the factories through control if you push through here you'll take over a lot of territory a lot faster than them so just some simple things to keep in mind for the future here i do wish you success in your game and i'm sure that this is something that you can work on and improve for the future i suspect that you'll learn a fair bit and have more success in the next one anyways i hope you guys enjoyed the video today as always if there's anything that you'd like to see for future content leave a comment down below or you can join the discord server using the link in the description i had a lot of fun making this video today i'm probably signing off for now so i hope to see you guys on the next one
