This is far from artisan, but the final product was pretty interesting.

Would liked to have seen him swing the axe.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous, silly, impractical, complete waste of time and money projects I have seen....

Absolutely loved it and it's probably one of my favorite dip it's he's done.

Honestly, now I'm wondering if you cast resin gummy bears and then use them instead would you get a more durable cast overall? To a point of a swingable axe?

I fell into a YouTube hole of watching all of his Dip It videos. I like this guy a lot.

i started watching it and thought from the moment when i showed how he gonna do it that this wont work. I'd rather have a smaller "gummy bear core" like a rod of gummybears, put it in the middle and then make the handle around it. Still good fun to watch :)

As he was pouring the mold I was thinking, man those exposed gummies are going to be a big problem.

Why didn't he make a full mold and pour from one of the ends instead of the side? Resin, a few gummies dropped in, more resin, more gummies.

How did he not realize the gummy bears would stick out when he started sanding? He jam packed them in there and there probably barely enough space between bears to hold the thing together. Not that surprising that it snapped in three pieces either. Neat final product though.

Make a core out of this, then cosmetically cast gummi bears around it. Might even be usable.

I'll do it but it'll be traditional because it's the only right way to make an axe handle now where are my gummi bears first thing I want to do is remove the handle from the axe head so it looks like it's being held in place of the wedge here so hitting the end of the axe with my mallet will actually drive the head further up to handle we should be able to actually get to that wedge all right there we go nice okay and we've got our axe handle somebody clean up this mess better but we don't need that right now I'm going to go ahead and wrap this with tape the tape will actually serve two purposes it will help to make an outer shell and keep any of these voids from being included in the casting and will also be a good release agent for the mold I'm going to wrap the entire thing in fashion tape well I've introduced quite a lot of wrinkles so there will definitely be some sanding time I have completely covered my axe handle in packing tape what's the next step here I need a mold that will fit this thing I got a package from Amazon who's a power strip for my shop you know seems like good size now the guy in the plastic shop said the cardboard wood works he seemed very very sure himself so I am sure himself I really hope actually newbie was talking about okay we now have a giant trough of cardboard that my ax handle fits in all I'm going to do is raise it up just a little bit and to do that I'm just going to hot glue on a couple short pieces of dowel I can't think of any other way that I can delay this I guess it's time the mold making material that I'm using is called urethane mold making but it's originally going to go with silicone but after pricing it out was going to cost me three hundred dollars to make this mold and that was presuming that it would work the first time it has a 30-minute working time which means really within mixing Part A and Part B together I've got about 15 minutes to mix it thoroughly and pour it in before it starts to be unusable it's like a witch's brew this is nasty looking he said I should buy one of those paddle mixers and I said yeah I'm totally going to do that and then I didn't take your time Peter there's no rush and the molds not holding ok take take take take take so I've still got a little bit of time for some rain and see if it leaks all right looks like it's holding let's finish up with this pour well that was fun I'm just going to mix up another 1 quart which would be 16 ounces of each please tell me I was recording nope wasn't okay so I did this I was like woo and then it looked like this and now the directions say I've got to wait 24 hours I'm not sure what the guy at the plastic store was thinking but I don't think cardboard is the best choice for this I got most of it off and what I'm left with is this giant lemon bar see we can't get our axe handle out we should have a perfectly usable mole or our axe handle okay the first thing I want to know is how large this mold is what is its total volume I've got 32 ounces of water I've added a couple drops a blue dye so hopefully it'll be a little bit easier to see we actually learned two things from that but the volume of this mold is 20 ounces and secondly we learn that its water type the next step five pounds of gummy bears so so many people have suggested gummy bears but I figured I'd had to try it and I think that what everyone's hoping for is a really cool stained-glass effect oh well Tara stop gummy bears okay so what we're going to do is we're going to mix up 12 ounces of resin I just don't foresee us needing more than that 20 21 22 23 24 total resin was 13 ounces so 7 ounces of gummy bears in there the mold may be slightly overfilled so I might have a ridge in the center that I'm gonna have to sand down but I think I can deal with that okay so while we wait for the gummy bear resin oh it sounds stupid you'e saying out loud while we wait for that to cure we've got to do a little bit of work with this axe head we're just going to let it soak in a vinegar bath for a little while and that'll definitely help remove some of this rust and sit in the vinegar bath for a couple hours just going to go ahead and take it out oh yeah a lot better and you can see the difference in the areas that were heavily rusted versus lightly rusted I can probably leave it longer but I'm impatient and I want to move on to the next step it's mostly clean I think I've got pretty much all the rust off of it it needs to be reground I need to think about the best way to do that small concentric circles that's how you do it these things take time it's important Abraham Lincoln once said something important about sharpening ax heads the gush is going to take forever if you're releasing well from the mold it is out of the mold and it looks good it definitely is going to need a little cleanup so I'll get out the sander okay so at this point I have a choice I could easily tell you that I was all done sanding and I got a nice smooth finish on the ax handle that wouldn't be the truth the truth was after I started sanding something happened that I didn't even think about gummy bears were exposed and they started gumming up the entire sanding process and this thing turned into a sticky nightmare big old chunks of them were being pulled out it was spread all across the ax handle at that point I grabbed this ran over to my sink and attempted to wet sand the whole thing to try to get the gummy residue off while it was in the sink this point and this point broke and so my ax was split into three sections it was at that point that I completely flipped a biscuit and lost it over the last 36 hours with the help of mrs. Brown I have been reassembling the ax handle one pour at a time and it is now whole again but I am NOT going to be sanding it so all I'm going to do is mix up one more batch of resin and I'm just going to paint on it finish it is what it is I'd rather you know the next person realize that that's going to happen then we lie to them and say it was super easy when it wasn't we'll go ahead and let the resin cure should take a few hours and then I think we're ready for assembly why in the world I decided I needed a super sharp axe head on a super wheat gummy bear handle is beyond me that is the point we are at you know it's a little fragile so I'm not going to be swinging this act but I still don't want it falling off so there we go it is all completed and all in one piece my gummy bear axe handle it glistens in the sunlight it looks amazing and it is completely ridiculous it is everything I love about making weird stuff on YouTube looks like stained glass I couldn't be happier with it and I am so happy that it is done thank you very much for watching if you like this video please share it that helps me out a ton I will catch you guys next time
