[Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] watch this it's fairly straightforward [Applause] whose line all the phases of this material with packing tape that will ensure that the resin doesn't stick to it [Music] [Music] all right and we've got three molds ready for filling old Matt was getting kind of nasty been cleaned several times so today starting with a brand new Matt all right the resin is warming up in its bath and while that does its thing let's pull out the rest of the materials we're gonna be using today so I got this box for my friend Zack at env wood works with a note that basically says he sent me out some aluminum honeycomb with simple instructions it's very light but definitely has some structure to it and if you look at it just right it almost disappears really interesting material Thank You Zack if you haven't seen his work I'll go ahead and put a link to one of his videos up here you're into resin work check out Zack what we're making today are called knife scales they're the handles for knives and why they're called scales I do not know in the turning world we would call these blanks knife handle blanks but I guess for knife makers they're called scales so we're just gonna go ahead and put the honeycomb directly in there the resin that we're going to be using today is easy cast this is the resin that we used for the charcoal Bowl I went ahead and picked these metallic pigments from just resin this one is copper and this one is yellow it's a beautiful color it is look slightly translucent still we think do we like those colors coppers a little darker than I was thinking but still be really nice together so all I'm gonna do is just pour them at the same time into opposite sides of the mold I think it's going to be really pretty I'm going to go ahead and put this aside let it cure and we can move on to our next material Vandana I've been a fan of Jimmy direst two videos for a very long time in fact his videos are the only reason that I am making videos one of the things that his signature in Jimmy directs to videos is that he wears a red bandana in his pocket and I thought it would be really fun to make a red bandanna a knife scale what we've got here is two bandanas worth cut into strips we need to get the resin out so let's reset the bench so it got cup loves we'll do eight ounces that's probably more than what we need so four ounces of resin four ounces of hardener and what we're going to do is I'm going to just pour the resin into this bowl and I'm going to just let the fabric soak up the resin once again we are trying to turn our channel into a cooking show like the worst french toast you'll ever have we want them completely soaked in the resin just like that and you want to do one piece at a time it is a tedious process there is no doubt about that making micarta is tedious but man it's cool material and I think this will be the first time that we've ever actually used it for its intended purpose my party is typically used for knife handles you can see we're getting pretty close to the top here this is really hard to do one-handed why am i doing it one-handed so I can work the camera have I moved the camera since I took off my glove I have not I am just making things more difficult for myself okay we are right at the crest of the mole and hopefully it is cut to the right size looks like it that's good that gives some pressure on the micarta it doesn't appear to being rising back up I was gonna clamp it but doesn't even look like it needs it so we'll just wait for it to finish curing this is actually used fire hose it's relatively easy to get about this on eBay it's sold as dock and boat bumpers I really don't know anything about it I don't even know if this is possible I just thought it sounded like a really cool idea well it's pretty tricky to cut even with a really sharp razor blade okay oh wow that's bright Oh feels like rubber I guess that makes sense now that I say it it is a fire hose it has to hold water I'm fairly certain that I've got enough strips to make a good sized knife handle blank if there's going to be a failure in this blank it's going to be because of this rubber and then the resin not sticking well to it so I'm not sure if it'll help but I thinking I'm gonna just score the back of these things with my razor knife here just try to give the resin some place to purchase hopefully that will make some difference and in we go and here we are once again our Bazaar cooking show the only difference is I have no idea how these are gonna soak up the resin fabric side seems to be doing its job the cool thing about my cart is as you sand through the layers you get different looks so I'm just going to go ahead and layer it as the layers are sanded through we'll get bright spots and dark spots and should be fairly interesting looking the last step to do before sending them off is to bifurcate them we need to split them into two pieces [Music] [Music] all right and these are all headed out to New York Mandana micarta firehose micarta and aluminum honeycomb and a couple of stickers it's hard to believe that was ten months ago I'm super excited to see what Jimmy has made and I have no idea what that video looks like but we can watch it together go ahead and put a link up right over here as I said in the video this channel wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for Jimmy dur esta so head on over there watch the video and thank him for being inspiration to other youtubers thank you guys very much for watching and I will catch you next time [Music]
