okay so step one we're gonna mix them my carton whoa whoa whoa and then we're gonna put crayons in resin just trust me the base of this project is going to be micarta in order to make it all you need to do is sandwich paper and resin together I'm thinking two ounces is a good place to start oops okay that weight fast I guess we'll do three ounces then be very careful in for one and a half ounces of hardener bring this up to the three ounce lines all right I think we got it stir thoroughly for at least three full minutes to ensure that all material will properly catalyze and cure as expected once mixed you'll have about 45 minutes of working time oh well that's good we have lots of working time what I learned from last time was this is a messy process so I've got a piece of laminate which is super flat I've got a piece of parchment paper and I've got my first piece of cardstock and my roller to make sure I get it all the corners if this works this will be my new favorite resin for micarta it doesn't sink and 45 minutes of working time is fantastic I literally do not smell anything right now it's just there's no odor and the bottle says no fumes but I have to say I was skeptical that's nice that's what all the people say riding high in April shot down in May but I think I'm gonna change the - when I'm back on top back on top in June there's nothing kicking come this here July I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and I add another piece of parchment paper to the top we're just gonna add some weight wait 24 hours so it's been a couple days it looks good it's not overly flexible I think we're good you guys might remember my crayons from the crayon vase that I made and at the time a lot of you suggested that the crayon shavings that I had made would look good in resin we're gonna try that today break some of these up stick it inside will this work I think so that seems like a good amount it's a very strange harvest I've got here so now I could pour the resin right over the top of this but I think it might be even cooler if we melted them a little bit what are we gonna use to melt these start with the flame I was gonna use the heat gun but I'm I'm worried that it might just blow them all off the paper oops got a little fire here hmm all right and that's where we keep a fire extinguisher in this shop all right looks like we need some more shavings around the corners here the resin is not on it that's just the crayons I'm waiting for the crayons to cool put your hand over it Wow still worried that I started with that but then I lit the parchment paper on fire yeah and so then I moved over the heat gun but that like smeared it all everywhere huh so that I came back and finished it with I'm sorry I didn't invite igloo blowtorch party actually awesome okay I don't know this part looks like a nebula exactly yeah it kind of does it looks like a crayon nebula how did it do in the crater oh we're great destroyed the grader though should you should look all right so the crayon has all cooled and all I'm doing now is putting some tape on the back here all right and I think I'm going to mix up three ounces again set timer three minutes thank you yeah thank you oh I just put resin on the phone please stop stop just stop just end this is extremely thick resin it's just crazy thick spread this out a little bit okay right that's an issue let's not do that again it's also kind of cold in the shop so that's not helping anything well we've still got a ton of bubbles fire at the propane torch let's see if we can't get rid of some of those bubbles and the heat from the propane does a couple things it warms up the resin makes it flow a little easier and it also brings all those bubbles to the top you got to be careful you can overdo it okay now for the hard part I got to walk away and leave it for 24 hours couple things I learned on this first off you really need a solid block below it rather than the four supports what the four supports didn't sit actually bowed under the weight of it the second thing is it wasn't curing I sent an email to the artresin folks and asked him what's wrong they said yeah this resin needs to be in much warmer temperature other thing was I was expecting it to cure in a few hours and it took more like a couple days and they said that's normal that is part of the reason why it doesn't yellow is because there's so little chemicals and it takes a long time to fully cure he also told me that there are some museum-quality resins that can take up to a week to cure and all I'm doing is putting a last layer on here in the right conditions and I'm just going to wait for it to finish curing which means I basically won't be coming in and doing any work in the garage for a couple of days and that's what the tapes for I'll just get the rest of it off yeah it has finished tearing all I'm going to do is just add this clipboard hardware and then these screws so we're going to do that you just need to drill an appropriate sized hole in this case the bit I'm using is eleven thirty Seconds a clipboard made from paper and crayons you know I sort of like that misusing associated materials so this definitely appeals to my sense of is it irony I don't know if it's irony but it it makes me it amuses me it's my first time using this type of resin really happy with how it finally turned out didn't know that it was gonna take that long to cure I figured 24 hours was the max curing time and actually 24 hours with the minimum curing time I ended up using 10 sheets of paper and it gives it a really nice support and the micarta process was super easy this time I would definitely go that route the future no clamping totally works so thank you very much for watching thank you for liking thank you for commenting and if you want to share this video that always helps me out a lot I'm gonna go ahead and use this for my different list I've actually done a lot of these already money gummy bears bacon coffee Legos peanut butter pancakes who put pancakes on the list not dipping pancakes I'm not dipping I'm not dipping pancakes [Music]
