pacific northwest day hiker and the hungry hiker here on youtube in this video i'm gonna focus on lunch the weird meal in the middle of the day when you don't want too much food but you want enough food to get you through the afternoon until you make it to camp for the night i'm gonna feature 10 different options that are easy and quick to make within five minutes or between a dollar and seven dollars per serving and can be found at the grocery store and because i'm one of those hikers that always loves to round out my meal with the sweet treat i'm gonna throw in some easy dessert options as well by the way i am not sponsored by any of the brands mentioned in this video these are all lunch options that i've come to enjoy either day hiking overnight backpacking or through hiking along the pacific crest trail alright let's go add a chicken creation flavored pouch of your choice my favorite is the buffalo style flavor and wrap it in a flour tortilla this one is fast easy tasty and doesn't require any cooking or water for me when on trail i consider a serving for this one to be two wraps which consists of two chicken pouches with two tortillas these come out to be six dollars and eighteen cents per serving with a serving being two wraps for a total of 440 calories per serving this is one of my most favorite meals to eat on trail whether i'm day hiking or backpacking it's quick easy really delicious and doesn't require any cooking or water make your very own backcountry charcuterie plate with two ounces of sliced peppered salami two ounces of your favorite hard cheese and your favorite crackers start with a cracker add a piece of salami top it with a piece of cheese fold it in half and you have yourself a backcountry chartreutery sandwich want to switch this one up instead of crackers make it into a tortilla wrap instead this one comes out to be 6.18 per serving for a total of 540 calories per serving for this one all you need is one chicken salad chicken pouch and a handful of crackers open the chicken pouch and dip the crackers inside for a chicken salad sandwich on the go without any utensils required another quick easy and tasty lunch option that doesn't require cooking or water these come out to be 6.38 per serving with a serving including two chicken pouches for a total of 280 calories per serving looking for a quick and easy lunch option that's also healthy on a flour tortilla add a handful of fresh spinach an avocado and some hummus and then wrap it all up like a burrito since this one has perishable ingredients you'll want to eat this one on trail first fresh food out on trail is always such a nice treat still no cooking or water required for this one these come out to be 5.16 per serving with a serving being two wraps for a total of 380 calories per serving [Music] who doesn't love mac and cheese it's an ultimate comfort food and bacon well okay maybe if you're vegan or vegetarian but i personally love bacon so this one is always a win for me easy mac is the easiest way to make mac and cheese on trail because it only requires boiling water no milk or butter just boiling water i like eating this one for lunch on a cold day or if i'm stopped at a water source because you'll need water to cook and will want to clean your pot out after lunch this one comes out to be a dollar 23 per serving with a serving being two packages of easy mac for a total of 300 calories per serving what's great about ramen is it's cheap and it's versatile you can add anything to it to change up the flavor profile and make it taste delicious for traditional ramen you'll need a package of ramen the flavor packet and either one and a half to two cups of water add water to your pot boil your water add the ramen cook for about two minutes turn off the heat add the flavor packet and enjoy this comes out to be a whopping 39 cents per serving with the servant being one package for a total of 380 calories per serving sick of traditional ramen mix it up and make it into a backcountry pad thai you'll need one package of ramen two tablespoons of powdered peanut butter one to two tablespoons of soy sauce one tablespoon of sesame oil and top it off with some fried onions add water to your pot boil your water add the ramen cook for about two minutes turn off the heat drain about half of the water and don't use the flavor packet for this one instead add the soy sauce the sesame oil and powdered peanut butter and then mix it all together then top it off with a handful of fried onions this ramen variation comes out to be 2.26 per serving for a total of 625 calories per serving here's a ramen variation that has great flavor and it's just the noodles you'll need one package of ramen one tablespoon of sesame oil one tablespoon of rice vinegar a dash of soy sauce and topped with some fried onions to make go ahead and add water to your pot boil your water add the ramen cook for about two minutes turn off the heat drain all of the water and don't use the flavor packet for this one either instead add the soy sauce the sesame oil and rice vinegar and mix it all up together then top it off with a handful of fried onions this comes out to be a dollar 62 per serving for a total of 600 calories per serving this variation requires a little bit of prep work ahead of time meaning cutting all the fresh ingredients before getting out on trail but it's totally worth the extra effort you'll need one package of ramen five tablespoons of powdered coconut milk one teaspoon of green curry paste juice from one lime and then to prep ahead of time cut a half of red pepper one tablespoon of chopped cilantro one tablespoon of green onions and one tablespoon of roasted peanuts to make this one add water to your pot boil your water add the ramen and red peppers cook for about two minutes turn off the heat and don't use the flavor packet for this one either instead add the powdered coconut milk green curry paste and squeeze in the fresh lime juice and then mix it all together top it off with the cilantro green onions and peanuts this one comes out to be 3.9 cents per serving for a total of 713 calories per serving need to add a few
