the sanctuary amen we greet those of you in the house and those of you who are watching online in the name of our lord and savior jesus christ come on let's stand for the reading of our mission statement are we ready let's do it the new salem missionary baptist church will provide an opportunity to clearly understand the gospel grow in relationship with christ and experience a sense of belonging in a nurturing christian community we therefore submit to the lordship of jesus christ in faith recognize the mission of the body of christ is essentially one of evangelism and discipleship that in turn give birth to the ministries of christian education missions and evangelism commit to a christian lifestyle of love sacrifice and service as reflected in jesus christ thus yield to him our stewardship of time talents tissue and tithes that the kingdom of god will be blessed our scripture for the year comes from philippians chapter 3 verses 13 and 14 and it reads like this from the king james version brethren i count on myself to have apprehended but this one thing i do forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before i press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of god in christ jesus and our vision statement for the year is pressing on can we say it together pressing on come on write that in the comment section and say it out loud one more time pressing on let us pray god thank you so much for this day thank you for what you've done for us all week long and that's things that we could not do for ourselves so god we come this morning to tell you how grateful we are for you and how wonderful you are for you've been protecting us all week long and god we show enough need your protection god even though we might have money on the bank and food in the refrigerator that can't make us have an appetite so for sitting at the table and still having an appetite this week god we say thank you god thank you for protecting our houses this week thank you for keeping the children as they went to school this week god we say thank you god you've done so much for us god if he had ten thousand tongues that still wouldn't be enough to praise you so right now god we say thank you for who you are and what you do in our lives and god right now we want to send up a special prayer for our school system in the name of jesus god we got violence on every hand so god i pray right now that you will send healing in our school system touch the kids in the name of jesus touch the teachers in the name of jesus touch each administrator in the name of jesus god have your way sent a revival in this city have your way as only you can it's in the name of jesus god we need you like we never needed you before now god we come together today to worship you for you are indeed worthy to be praised so right now god sent a word in this place use our pastor to preach in the name of jesus let your glory fill this place at seven and at nine thirty in the name of jesus get in every single that's going to sing walk down each pew the people need your god god i need you everyone needs you like we never needed you before so on let's bless god great singer this one who did an outstanding job amen revelations chapter 2. verses one through seven until the angel of the church at ephesus write these things and he that holdeth the seven stones in his right hand who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks i know thou works and our labors and thou patience and how that cannot bear them which are evil and that has tried them which say they are apostles and are not and has found them liars and has borne and has patience for my namesake has labored and has not fainted nevertheless i have somewhat against thee because thou has left thou first love remember therefore from which is our fallen repent do the first work or else i will come under thee quickly and remove our candlesticks out of his place except thou repent but this thou has that thou hated the deeds of the nicolaitans which i also hate he that has an ear let him hear what the spirit said unto the church to him that overcometh what i give to eat of the tree of life which is in the midst of the paradise of god thank you so much i want to walk through this message i had to had to condense it when i started studying this passage normally i do write all of my sermons and wrote this as well but normally when i type my sermons it is about between six and eight pages when i got through typing this was 42 pages and so if i preach all of it it'll be night before we get out of here so you all will pray with me to try to condense it into 30 minutes thank you sister ushers thank you all so much bless god for us just this man the pensmen that penned this text shares with us holy helpful hints that would be beneficial to all of us if we take heed to the word john however when he penned revelation he tried to describe jesus whatever word he can come up with he used words like as alike because he don't have the adequate uh vocabulary to really describe who jesus is he said his hair is like lamb's wool his feet is as [Music] fine brass uh he he tried to describe him in chapter one in chapter two he comes and he write a letter to seven churches and of course these letters went out to churches that had pastors if there was no pastor at the church they didn't receive a letter watch how he opened he said and on to the angel the bible is specific about angels and it is power packed with angels uh god had his word angel god had his war angel and god had this worshiping angel there were certain angels whenever he would get ready to sin his word he would use a pacific angel for that when god got ready to say to elizabeth that you're going to bring forth a child by the name of john he sent gable when god got ready to tell mary that you're going to bring forth a child you are highly favored he said gable gable was his word angel when he wanted to make war he said michael michael was his war angel in revelation chapter 12 the bible said and michael fought with the dragon the old devil and prevailed against it that was his war angel when he wanted worship he used lucifer lucifer was his worshiping angel but in isaiah chapter 14 lucifer got beside himself and decided that he wanted his throne to be above the throne of god and god kicked him and a third of the other angels out of heaven and when the lord fired lucifer he gave lucifer's job to us so whenever we worship now we make the devil mad because we remind him of the job he once had god uses his angels when god got ready to say to abraham you're going to be the father of many nations he sent an angel when jacob was running from his brother esau trying to get away for god to rescue him he sent an angel and wrestled with jacob all night and when he wanted to further the scene he allowed jacob to dream about angels descending down and ascending up because he uses his angels when daniel was locked in the lion's den and it looked like it was no way out god dispatched an angel for when the king came by and says to daniel are you still in there daniel honored from beneath the lion's den and said king live forever he said what happened he said late last night god dispatched an angel and he came and locked the lion's jaws and men hungry lions slept all night long because god uses his angels when god got ready to bring forth the savior of the world he dispatched angels and when jesus was born in bethlehem angels relocated themselves in the mid-air and sung a new song from their organic quest and glory to god peace on earth good will toward me when jesus had fasted 40 days and 40 nights and was afterwards hunger the bible said angels came and ministered unto jesus when jesus went into the garden of eden of gethsemane to drink of the bitter cup the bible said angels came and ministered to jesus when jesus rose from the dead preached from that third day morning when mary magdalene and other mayors came to the sepulcher they didn't see jesus but they saw angels one at the head and wanted the foot said we're not he's not here why seek ye the living among the dead when jesus got ready to catch the mount olive cloud to go back to be with his father in heaven the bible said two men in white apparel said why stand you here gazing into heaven the same way you see him go the same way he's coming back again it is angels psalms 911 said we too have angels because he said he give his angel charge to keep watch over us don uses his angels when they got ready to arrest jesus peter took out his sword to to fight for him the lord said to peter put up your sword he said i could pray to my father and he would send more than 12 legions of angels talk to me somebody that would come down and take care of situation a legion is 66 thousand twelve legions is seven to two thousand angels jesus said i have at my disposal at least seventy two thousand angels talk to me somebody i wanted to know how powerful angels were and i looked over in isaiah chapter 37 verse 36 it said one angel took out 185 000 people just one angel if one angel could take out 185 000 people 72 000 angels could take out 13 billion 320 million million am i putting all the sleep here is because of angels he said unto the angels you see her wise long don't you he's unto the angel but this angel is not a heavenly being this angel is an earthly pastor he writes the letter to the church but he send the letter to the pastor's address meaning before the church get the news the pastor gets it if it is a letter of congratulations the pastor get the news first if it is a letter of condemnation the pastor get the news first see squatters is kept it's hard for a pastor not to fall in love with the people he leads which mean that when you hurt he hurts and when you rejoice he rejoices when you experience victory he experience it when you experience downfall he experienced the same thing he said unto the angels of the church greek word for church compound word eat it exit the church is filled with exit people we have exit out of something we look holy now but we ain't always been this holy look like we got it together now but there's an x behind all our names ex-pimp ex-prostitute ex-homanga x gambler x liar x thief x murderer we ex he says second part word for church is kaleo which means been called we have exit out of something but called into something you see this is not a glee club this is not a social clue this is the church [Music] it is what jesus died for upon this rock i will build my church in the gates of hell should not prevail against it and unto the age of the church at ephesus this was one of the richest communities in asia minor it was not only rich it was political in leadership and economic but it was political and leadership in religion they had a god called diana diana was the sex god which means people preach remembrance would come there prostitutes to exemplify the oldest known jobs that's what happened in the church at correct that people would come in women would come in the church shave their heads and they would use the church as a gathering place to sell their virtue across the counters of iniquity that's why that when they got saved they still had no hair on their head and they were told to put a covering that little white cap you see on their heads is symbolic i used to be a prostitute and now i've been delivered i won't bother that no more this was the church but was also a church that had history behind it because of its leadership in acts chapter 19 this church was organized and founded by the apostle paul his younger son timothy came behind and served as the leading pastor priscilla aquila came there did evangelistic work at this church there was also a church where peter preached john that pen the gospel of john first second third epistle of john and the book of revelation was a charter member of this church the mother of jesus was baptized at this church it has history in the church and you know when you got a church with a lot of history if you're not careful you become complacent you get to the place where you think we got it that we have arrived watch what he said unto the angel of the church in ephesus write these things saying he that hold it see little word holy greek word quatteo which means he controls he hold the seven stars y'all got a minute now if you watch in revelation chapter 1 verse 20 he tell you what the stars mean since this is the seven o'clock and y'all don't mind a little teaching he says in verse 20 chapter one the minister of the seven stars which thou saweth in the right hand and seven golden candles the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches which mean he hold the angels which means he hold the pastors in his right hand that's the hand of power that's the hand of authority can i say to you the only reason pastors can keep standing it because god hold them it ain't because pastors are that small i got that much going from can you imagine in every church every church pastor got some snitches it ain't nothing can go on in the church without the pastor knowing about it y'all don't like me he he know but he can't say nothing that's why the lord when he sent him out he said listen servants be as wise as a serpent but as homeless as a dove i couldn't understand it until i learned the characteristics of a serpent you see a serpent he can disguise itself in the midst of the surroundings talk to himself he don't just he don't just stay there and show up you ain't gonna just walk up and see him he see you first because he disguises himself in his surroundings his skin color match his surroundings and yet he can strike but he picks his ground he wait and check his territory out y'all don't like but this house he should be as wise as a serpent but as humble as why i got to be homeless because you ain't got to fight for yourself he said i'll fight the battle y'all don't like me but then to be able to preach to people that will scandalize your name hung your name on the wings of the morning and be able to walk up to him knowing what they said hey baby how you doing so glad to see you how can they do that the text that because the lord hold him am i here by myself can i tell you after 50 years i've been held that's why i'm standing i mean just hearing what folks say about you if you let it get you will take you out preach reverend ray he says now watch what he do he walks in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks now i told you what the candlesticks were go back to chapter one verse 20. y'all got a minute he's in the midst of the seven stars which i saw in the right hand seven golden chemistry seven stars of the seven angels of the of the seven churches the seven candlesticks which thou saw are the seven churches he said listen jesus who's the man of god in his right hand and then he walks in the midst of the seven churches that mean he examined his church i'm just have to quit when i swear to time up because he walks in the midst you used to hear old folks used to saying years ago search me low searching below if you find anything that shouldn't be take it out and strengthen me because i want to be right i want to be saved i got to be because the lord searches [Music] his church now watch this maybe i get to what i'm going to preach at the next series but watch what he says i know that's verse 2. greek word is a dew in other words he says i know through experience i know because i have examined you he said i know everything it is about you he said i know your works the church wants a working church you see don't think churches can stand by themselves all stuff to go on at this church it don't just fall out of the sky somebody got to work they all don't like but this house i mean it don't just sit here every sunday and nothing happens somebody got to do something to keep it going it used to be a time that people would volunteer y'all remember that just be good gods of people come in volunteer they clean they they do a general house clean of the church clean their parking lot all the kind of stuff get up and clean the lights fixes and all accounts too now everybody got to get paid pick up some paper out of the bathroom they're going to come with a receipt this is what i use he said i know you work but he said something else he said i know your labor he said i know you've been sweating been putting hard labor in trying to get things going you've been doing stuff to keep the wheels turning i know your work i know your labor then he said i know your patience greek word hope of monet hoopa mean under my name means to bear patience doesn't mean you get in a seat somewhere and sit down patient mean that you got a load and you keep bearing under the load you got load but you ain't gonna quit cautious alone you ain't gonna turn the tower because folk put a heavy load on you bury it he said he's i know is that in your text and then he says in verse four boy if you could just erase this statement in verse four and i'll quit i got to hang and can't hold y'all know verse four he said nevertheless now wait a minute lord you mean to tell me you know we've been working you know we've been laboring you know we got patience and yet you said nevertheless now in the greek text where it nevertheless is blocked you've been doing all these things but lord have mercy i wonder since i got y'all's attention i wonder do god see a butt in your life here's what's so disturbing to me is that over 700 000 people in the last 18 months have died from covet we've got about 600 000 people in memphis so let me more folks have died and even live in our city and we still standing don't it if that don't clap your bail your clapper is broken he said nevertheless i got somewhat against thee he said because you have left your first love let me come down your street since y'all ain't bo you ain't saying nothing yet do you remember your first love do you remember that person that just got in your heart oh my god and that's all you saw was them you you wanted to eat with them you wanted to play with them you want to do everything with them you couldn't see nobody but them talk to me somebody you forgot about your house my first love was lizzy that was junior's mama i started going with her when she was 13 and i was 16. i'd ride the bus from school home and get off the bus and walk back to her house and i still there until her daddy would throw a shoe in the next room that shoe meant hit the road oh i remember my first love y'all remember your first love you would walk around and open the condo make sure they would get in and comfortable and then you close the door and then you come around and get it on your side and then before you pull off you have to kiss them [Applause] you remember your first love you would buy stuff from you wasn't able to you always said that you would go places you didn't want to go but it was your first love jesus says do you remember your first love do y'all remember when you first fell in love with jesus you get upset with folk they were slow about getting you to the church come on we will be late for devotion you didn't you didn't walk in like you do now speaking about how y'all got you rushed again because you didn't want to miss nothing musician wasn't up front to play you'd walk up i woke up this morning with my man you remember how you used to love him when other folks didn't you say i don't care what you're saying i'm in love with jesus he says i have somewhat against you because thou have left you departed from your first love you see you know sometimes busyness [Music] will cause us to forget the one we love they will forget my daughter emma when she got ready to get married i was looking forward to performing the ceremony standing at the altar marrying my daughter you know what she said to me she said daddy this time i want you to be dead so i can get somebody else to perform the ceremony i want you to be dead and stand beside me sometimes we get so caught up in our own agenda till we forget what really matters you always say nothing in this house what really matters what does it profit a man to gain the whole world turn around and lose his own soul he said you laugh you see we got so caught up in sophistication lady wrote me once and said i guess it was late it might have been a man said i have i listened to 22 minutes of your sermon and i these are the verbs you messed up that you did to them properly they you did not pronounce the words right you put them in the wrong place and so they left an address so i wrote them back i said did you listen to the rest of the sermon no i said well it's good i broke some verbs because if i not broken them you wouldn't heard nothing we get so caught up in sophistication and in technology and we forget the one we supposed to be in love with you doing less now for the lord than you did when you fell in love with him are you worshipping him less you always said man do you have him on your mind less now remember the church was working the church was laboring the church had patience yet he says you left my first love huh can i just use one more word that i'll let y'all go in verse five he said remember see this little word remember god prepared our minds to be able to do at least two things we can we can remember and we can imagine memory is when you get that cassette recorder and hit the reverse button and you go back to last week last month last year uh imagination you hit the fast forward button and go forward memory deal with memorial the word for memory is actually the word supplica is grave memory in the text mean that whenever somebody is of value they put a stature up as a memorial for people coming on to see you didn't know him but the statue told the story he always said that jesus said you got some folk coming on behind you you need to have a memorial of who i am but you have forgot love your first love y'all ain't saying nothing am i disturbing y'all because i guess one reason i got so many pages in this sermon is because it touched me i had to ask myself am i doing what i used to do i am again satisfied as just being blessed because can i tell you only what you do for christ [Music] but not what you do for somebody else but what you do for christ talk to me somebody are you doing less for him today than you did for him last year year before last i don't know about y'all he's still good to me you still bless me my god every time i turn around the lord is doing something else every time i wake up in the morning is because of his goodness do i have a witness thank god for what he has done he said remember i guess i need to give you just one little one here and then i'll pick it back up at the next service watch what he said we think it ain't nothing we think this don't mount too much but watch what it said remember therefore from whence thou art fallen lord have mercy i'm working i'm laboring i'm toiling but uh the lord said you fallen you see let me know you can do stuff without loving it but you can't love without doing it listen what is said in mark chapter 12 verse 32 he said you got to love the lawn with all your hearts but all your soul with all your mind and with all your strength that mean that i can do the performance but if i don't love the lord in doing it he said you're a father have i got a witness here i got to quit y'all thank y'all for letting me stand by this morning but i owe him too much to back up on my god now yeah done too much for me brought me from too far kept me too long for me to get slack on the lawn down there he said remember from which thou have fallen and that and then watch what it say repent that means tell god i'm sorry for being negligent with you i'm sorry for not giving you all i got that's enough i'll finish in the next series uh how many know i owe him too much he been too good to me had done too many things for me kept my family kept my home kept our church kept my neighborhood i'm gonna say i owe him [Music] hallelujah hallelujah for the layout shout glory in this glory [Applause] heads about eyes are closed just and brims and bass got so many fish that i can just throw bring it out there and they literally leap up out of the water just jump up and grab it in the air i got them because i don't like fishing loan when i get red fish i want to go out there in five minutes get me a fish and come on back i don't want to i don't want to stand in no bank for no whole day and don't catch nothing amen so i got it so i can just walk out there and just fish and just get what i want and i'm good to go i said but in the same lake i got watermollisons so i killed three greg killed two holy hand up grant greg killed two so that's five watermarks and was killed another this year i said listen i have faith i've got trust i got confidence in god but i respect their moccasins amen i watch everywhere i set my foot everywhere i do i take my gun with my death i need to so i can send them to snake heaven so i told them i got faith and confidence in the lord but i have respect for this virus that i don't play with it i make sure that i protect myself and make sure we do everything we can because i want to live help myself i want to live and so we have to do that as ladies and gentlemen make sure that we do that please ma'am please sir obey our ushers they're doing the best they can try to keep us comfortable some of the some of the ushers hadn't got back yet but we're utilizing the wonders here number one ushers and number two ushers they have joined up together and they serve on first and third and our men handle it by themselves on the second and fourth sat there and then all of them were served together on the fifth sunday soon i assume i guess i'm just a pastor i don't know it will lift our gifts second corinthians nine and seven let's read it every man according to purposes in his heart so let him give not grudgingly or unnecessary for god loveth a chill forgiver gracious god our father we thank you for the privilege and opportunity to be able to worship in giving sanctify these gifts church amen we got to do that that's part of us we need to do it they looking for us and i would too and so whenever we hear of a person have lost some loved ones we need to try to get together so we can go and share with those families and be with them that's vital that's important okay if our brothers will come if if well if each of you how many of y'all do not have a communion okay right here new testament this is the blood that was shed for many gracious god our father we thank you for your shed blood it is in your name we pray amen my son son-in-law next sunday pastor brian bodley is having his installation at three o'clock at new bethel baptist church i'm certain he'd love to see some of the saints of salem come over and share next sunday at 3 and then the third sunday we our church is going to to be with pastor horner he's the president of our baptist ministers association with having his his anniversary is at bethel baptist church on 316 georgia road that's the third sunday at three o'clock amen make sure we stay continue to pray for our sick bryant chalmers is one of one of our members this charge of the media ministry has been sick and had transplant but he's doing well let's pray for him but terry mason and they uh our guitar player let's pray for him as well uh sister glover homegoing service was friday uh here in memphis and we're praying for that family um serious for annette crawford the daughter of mother eins is on the ninth uh praying for that family as well amen uh the reverend ivory motley uh the uncle of dale smith will be on the ninth as well but it's in indiana pray for dale smith and the family and memorial service for wyman anderson the son of shirley anderson is still pending and then reverend eddie crawford and elite crawford you remember him as snowman was a wrestler he was my classmate he is uh rochelle hurst uncle that service is going to be next saturday at 12 noon at oak grove all right any visitors any visitors any
