all the praise our mission statement [Music] the new salem missionary baptist church will provide an opportunity to clearly understand the gospel grow in relationship with christ and experience a sense of belonging in a nurturing and christian community we therefore submit to the lordship of jesus christ in faith recognize the mission of the body of christ is essential one of evangelism and discipleship that in turn gives birth to be ministry to give birth to the ministries of christian education missions and evangelism commit to a christian lifestyle of love sacrifice and service as reflected in jesus christ thus yield to him our stewardship of time talents tishes and tithes that the kingdom of god will be blessed amen our mission statement press and on from the book of philippians chapter 3 verses 13 through 13 and 14 brethren i counted not myself to have apprehended but this one thing i do forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before i press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of god in jesus christ may god bless the readers and the hearers of his holy word pressing on pressing on amen let us prepare our hearts and our minds for prayer as we turn now and look toward the heavens every head bowed every eye closed most gracious and eternal father it's in your precious name that we come once again send thank you we your people have come today to worship we've come to bless your name we've come to thank you for what you've already done we come to thank you for what you're even doing this very hour and then we come to thank you for all the many blessings that you have bestowed upon us we did not come today for show-shaped form of fashion but we've come to say thank you because you didn't have to do it it could have been us outdoors it could have been us in the fire it could have been us in the vehicle accident it could have been us who got shot by some stray bullet but we bow down just to say thank you thank you for just a reasonable portion of thine health and downstream that thou has bestowed upon us we've entered into your gates weaving in into your courts and we come with thanksgiving and praise because you're a god who deserve all the praise oh god if we had ten thousand tongues today we could not thank you enough we just stopped by just a few of your children just to say thank you thank you for as well as it is because it could have been another way it could have been us outdoors it could have been us sleeping under a freeway it could have been us standing at a street corner begging for something to eat or something to drink but we bow now just to say thank him oh god we thank you because you watched over us not only this week not only last night but you watched over us from the early existence of every one of our lives and you brought us to this very point in time in life and we come by now just to say thank you we thank you because we're living in in some distressing and turbulent times we stopped by just to say thank you thank you in the midst of a pandemic you still a god to sit high and look low in the midst of death and all the trouble that's going on in the world you still sit high and look low so we just stopped by now to say oh god we ask now that you look in on this house bless this undershepherd of this house bless the system pastor of this house oh god we ask that you bless the deacon board and bless the mothers today not only just them but every member of new salem we ask that you remember those that's on the prayer list oh god those that are in the hour of bereavement we ask that you have mercy upon the sick and to shut in those that don't even know you're in the pardon of the sins we ask that you have mercy upon was their house and so we asked that you as you come into the lord's house let's govern ourselves according make sure you keep your mast on your whole face on your nose and mouth i know you've got privileged of meeting a young man that came now city has done just an outstanding job as a missionary worker he's a preacher he's a medical doctor he came and started setting up places across the city to give shots free shots to anybody that needs vaccination amen he has worked with us we come here during the time we distribute food and share and we wanted to do something to help and to bless him so we had a meeting with city council and with some pastors in the city and asked them to do something to bless him and so he's going to come now and just have a word to say and then we'll be back dr vaccinate memphis against the coronavirus we all know how bad it is how it's ravaged our families we have two and three and four and five family members now in our communities that are getting ill getting sick and dying you know so this is a very serious disease and a lot of us are still not taking it seriously you all have a jewel in pastor dr ray i can't even begin to tell you how he and dr hooks have just blessed our lives by the interactions that we've had with them since we started doing this they were probably the first church to come on with us and say hey come over here and let's take care of the people of memphis so please please just bless god for dr ray dr hooks we're at a very critical time right now everything he just told you i want you not to only abide by that in this house but in your homes your workplaces everywhere that you go because we're in a very critical time we're in the f time of the year it's food family football and fun all the time we're about to come inside the house even for basketball and everything else and you're going to be side by side and you don't know who has coronavirus you can't tell who has coronavirus and many people in memphis are not vaccinated they're not vaccinated so that means that there's a chance that they're going to be passing that on one to the other i don't want to pass on nothing but love okay so i would that you all get vaccinated if you're not vaccinated i want you to understand this only about 48 of the people in memphis is vaccinated if you take out the people that 65 and up because they were most the time in the house that's about 38 it means about every third person you see is vaccinating every two or three people you see ain't vaccinated we need to make that stop we have an opportunity to try and vaccinate more people by adding on to our practice we have a grant up before a grant proposal before the city of memphis they vote on it on tuesday if you would before you watch football today get on the memphis city council web page and hit email all council members and say we support shot rx give them the grant be real plane with it don't even play with them say give them the grant we need somebody that's out there we go to every single neighborhood and block they claim other people do what we do but they do not we educate in schools 200 faculty members 600 students at a time about coronavirus and they don't even come to our clinic but we are trying to save the city so if you would please do that for you for us and for the people of god and people the city of memphis pastor i revelations chapter 2 verses 1 through 7 and try if you can to keep your bibles open this morning as we walk through these passages unto the angel of the church at ephesus right these things and he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks i know that works and our labor and our patience and how thou cannot bear them which are evil they have tried them which say they are apostles and are not and found them liars and it's bored and has patience and for my name's sake has labored and has not fainted nevertheless i have somewhat against thee because thou has left thou first love remember that from which thou art fallen and repent and do the first work or else i will come unto thee quickly and will remove thou call stakes out of his place except thou repent for this thou hast that thou hate the deeds of the nicolaitans which i also hate he that has an ear let him hear what the spirit said unto the churches to him that overcome will i give to eat of the tree of life which is in the midst of the paradise of god the honeymoon is over the honeymoon it's over shouted with me one time the honeymoon is over thank you so much stay with me if you will john the pension of this particular text walked through this text to give us holy helpful hints to help us understand how life for us used to be and how it is now if you notice how he addressed this letter he opened by saying unto the angel of course there are many many angels mentioned in the scripture some angels are named some angels just appear they are special assignments that god give to special angels god has a word angel a war angel and a worshiping angel when god got ready to say to elizabeth that in your old age you're going to bring forth a son and you would call his name john he used an angel called gabriel but god said to mary you are highly favored you will bring forth the savior of the world forget that to get that message to mary he used an by the name of gable when there was war in heaven in revelations chapter 12 verses 7 through 12 the bible says there's a war in heaven and michael fought with the dragon the devil satan lucifer and was victorious that was an angel called michael he had a working he had a war angel he had a word angel but he had a worship and angel his name was lucifer lucifer however got beside himself decided he wanted his throne to be above the throne of god so in isaiah chapter 14 the bible say that god kicked him out of heaven and a third of the angels came with him and when god fired lucifer for being the worshipping angel he gave his job to us so that now whenever you worship god satan get mad with you because you remind him of the job he once had all through the bible you see angels when abraham was well stricken in age too old to have a child a father child god sent him a message by an angel and says to abraham you will be blessed more or more numerous than the sands of the sea the message came by an angel when jacob was running from his brother esau trying to get away god caught him late one night with an angel an angel wrestled with jacob all night long turn around and start having dreams with angels descending and us singing because god uses his angels when daniel was caught in the lion's den it looked like it was all over for him but the next morning when the king came to the mouth of the den he hollered through the mouth of the dean daniel are you still in there daniel holland back so king live forever he said what happened he said late last night an angel showed up and locked the jaws of the lion's mouth and men hungry lion slept all night long when jesus was born at bethlehem angels relocated the choir and start singing a song glory to god peace on earth good will one sitting at jesus head the other at his foot saying who i seek he living among the dead he's not here come see the place where the lord lay and then of course when they tried to arrest jesus the bible said they came to arrest him that's in that's in matthew chapter 26 verse 53 they came and peter took out his sword to fight them and the lord said to peter put up your sword i don't need your help he said if i wanted to i could pray to my father and he would send more than 12 legions of angels that would come and do business for me now legion of angel is six thousand twelve legends arrangers is seventy two thousand angels jesus says to peter i have more than seventy two thousand angels that's at my beck and call talk to me somebody i was interested in knowing how powerful an angel was so i went over in isaiah chapter 37 verse 36 he said one angel took out 185 000 people just one angel jesus got seven to two thousand angels if one angel could take out a hundred and eighty five thousand seventy two thousand angels could they take out thirteen billion three hundred twenty million folk that's more people that's on the planet jesus i got angels at my disposal i should say to us before move on we too have been assigned angels because psalms 911 the lord gave his angel charles to keep watch over you that means everywhere you go you have an angel assigned to you preacher you ought to feel better knowing that you at least have an angel that's watching over when thieves attempt to break in your house and take your garments and your items and your things out of the house or take your life they run into an angel that's why the songwriter said all day and all night angels keep watching over me old lady it was was in trouble at a house she didn't have any funds to pay her for her wrench no utility she had no food in the house she didn't know what she was going to do she thought she was going to get set out at any moment and when you got a lot of stuff on your mind it's hard to rest she got around two o'clock one morning and had one of those old timey washing machines and she decided to wash a load of clothes put the clothes in the machine and when the washing machine started washing a strange sound came from the washing machine it sounded like it was saying all day all night angels keep watching over me she decided to get her some coffee she got all coffee with an old percolator on it she put the coffee in the pot and when the pot started percolating she heard a strange sound from the pot the sound sound like it was saying all day and all night angels keep watching over me that morning about six o'clock a telephone wrong scared of the death she was scared to answer and one of the most rotary kind of phones not the phone that you used to one was a rotary but a sound came from the phone sounds sound like it was saying all day and all night angels keep watching over me about 6 30 her dope rang wrong early in the morning the ringing came all through the walls and when she was getting ready to go to the door the sound from the dope it sounded like i was saying all day and all night angels keep watching over me she opened the door and that stood a man she had never seen before just standing staring at her had an envelope in his hand he said ma'am i don't know who you are so but each year i give money to charity for some reason another the lord sent me to your door so here's a check for you for ten thousand dollars i don't know if you need it i don't know what it's for but the lord told me to give it to you and that lady looked at their check with tears in her eyes and saw it ten thousand dollars she went to sit down and looked at it again and at the bottom of the check was some little bitty writing the little writing said all day and all night angels keep watching over you thank god for angels the text said and unto the angel but now this angel in the text is not a heavenly being this angel is an earthly pastor the greek word is angelos it means messenger you see there were many churches in asia minor but only seven received letters because there was only seven pastors the churches that did not have a pastor didn't get a letter which also means that whatever letter the lord sent to the church the pastor read it first if it was a letter of congratulations the pastor was able to rejoice with the congregation as he shared the message if it was a letter of condemnation the pastor got it first he was able to share but with a broken and heavy heart he said unto the angel oh the church greek writ for church is ek la church of emphasis was at that day the most notorious church in asia minor the church at ephesus it was known for its political movement because politically it was out front they made their own laws chartered member of this church and the mother of jesus was baptized here in this political this wonderful place unto the angel of the church at ephesus talk to me somebody he writes this letter watch thursday is men's ministry night friday is night out with the children saturday is time to deal with the teens and the list goes on every day would be jam-packed with stuff the church is doing god wants you to work john 9 4 i must work preach from ray the works of him that sent me while in this day y'all ain't saying that but i know i'm preaching he said i want you to be bids i want you to work first corinthians 15 38 15 58 be steadfast unmovable always abounding in the work of the lord for as much as you know your labor is not in vain in the lord i won't say lord this got to be a real good church this church is laboring this church is working this church got patience but wait a minute watch what it says verse 4 nevertheless wait a minute lord the word nevertheless mean but a lot you been telling me you got a church that's laboring you got a church that's working you got to church with patience and you're going to put a butt on the end of it he said nevertheless i got somewhat against you oh that hurt my heart because i had to sit back and start examining myself i had to walk to the mirror when i read this passage start looking at myself lord i'm trying to do the best i can i'm trying to be everywhere i need to be i'm trying to obey your will lord is that but in my life lord am i falling short lord of what you would have me to do lord i'm spending 40 hours a week steadying your word i'm trying to go see who i can see i'm trying to preach wherever i can preach trying to win folks to the law he said nevertheless he's i have somewhat against you let the man have something against me that's all right let's see the council have something against me that's all right let the police department have something against me let internal revenue have something against me let the covenant of the state have something against me let the councilors let the senators the uh congressmen have something let the president have something against but not the law i don't want the law why preacher because i need him to wake me every morning i need him to clothe me in my right mind i need him to keep giving me my health and strength what you mean somewhat against you he said you have left your first love in other words jesus said your honeymoon is over he said first love i'm hanging here a moment anybody remember your first love i fell in love with young lady name was used to rush to church how you didn't care what happened hell high water caught and run you'd walk or you summarize with somebody else come on talk to me somebody you remember how you wasn't just satisfied at one hour service you came to sunday school at 9 30. service was at 11. had a three o'clock afternoon service and then another service btu at six in the evening and then another service at seven at night and you never got tired we church all day and talk about church until next sunday that's when you first fell in y'all ain't gonna help me here in love with the lord you remember that don't you that you go to work talking about what god had done you'd look at on thursday you said oh my god i got three more days before sunday i can't wait till sunday morning and you'd walk in church singing shine on me let the light from the lighthouse shut am i the only one been like that shine you remember when you first fell in love with the law can i ask you what happened where did the coldness come from what did the lord do to you to make you stop loving him like you used to be more sophisticated talk to me somebody we got more degrees we got better jobs you always say none we got as much stuff we ought to worry about as we used to and yet we backed up on the one we ought to be going forward to sometime we take for granted what god is doing they just said on the news a couple days ago 700 000 people have died from covey that's more than we have in the city of memphis we've got about 600 000 folks in memphis that means all of memphis would be wiped out but yet you're still here and we're here because we're looking so good we're not here because we're so holy we're here because god is keeping us you mean to tell me god been that good to me and i'mma get cold on god i remember right here in this church folk would be falling over and coming down the eyes shouting and singing now we won't even holler and raise our hand thank you thank you jesus we're too cute to shout now i hear the lord saying the honeymoon is over if you got your bibles can i show you what the lord think about it he said nevertheless i have somewhere to kiss you you left your first love watch what it said in verse 5 remember therefore from which thou are fallen now what we say is i'm just busy what we say is i got so much on the schedule what we say is i just can't keep up with it i get to the lord sooner or later but jesus said you're fallen now who are you going to believe what you say or what the lord said perio pepto the word fallen he said i have you're fallen why because they say it's not so much what you do but why you do it this is what it says in mark chapter 12 verse 32 234 he said you should love the lord with all your heart with all your soul with all your might but all your strength talk to that means every fiber of me ought to be in love with the lord can i tell you what love would do love will have you doing stuff you never dream you do love what have you spending money you ain't even god i guess i'm here by myself love will take your father then you want to go low will make you stay longer than you want to stay he said you have left your first love let me just pull the house see where i am if i'm here but is there anybody in here that's still in love with the lord has anybody here got no sense to know that i love him with all my heart and if i messed up show me what i need to do to get back in order he said i need you to do and i'll leave you about three things he said first of all remember shall remember remember there are two things your mind can do one is it can remember secondly it can imagine you see memory is so unique memory will have you on your 50th wedding anniversary remember the first day you met your bride remember it memory can have you at july the 21st remembering the snow in january remember no vehicle is as fast as remember talk to me somebody but remember in this text it means memorial do you know why when your loved ones die and you bury them you put a headstone at the head of the casket for memory because if there's no headstone you forget where you buried mama you know how you see statues in places a huge statue of somebody is there for memory that means somebody excited and somebody famous somebody that's important to you died and you put a statue you make the statue out of stone a metal so it lasts but not only would it last you have to keep it up you have to go back in once a while and cut grass around it had to go in once while i polish it to keep it up this is what the text is saying you need to go back and remember talk to me somebody who brought you where you are you need to go back and find the person that snatched you out of the jaws of hell because if you're like me i was on my way to a burning hair but the lord stepped in just in the nick of time he says number one remember y'all see it in the text from which thou art fallen but he said something else in verse five he said repent he said don't just turn around and start doing the right thing he said you need to repent for what you've done repentance mean a change of mind change your mind about self change your mind about sin and change your mind about the savior i'm preaching in this house talk to me somebody in other words he said if you have not been faithful as you should have been he said you need to repeat to god so lord you don't deserve what i've been doing to you i said a long time ago i did not want to rust out for the lord i want to wear out yeah and i want the lord to be pleased with my life he said number one remember but secondly he says repent but then he said do the first work it's in your bible you ain't turned out which means you must repeat shout repeat one time that means you remember how you used to act when you first fell in love with the lord he said need to go back start doing and uh over again because the only bible that some folk will read is you that when people see you a casual with god they think they need to be casual as well but uh the psalmist said that when you're born again you should make a joyful noise unto the lord is there anybody here know that you want to make a joyful noise to the lord you know it's always disturbing to me lord when i pull away from the property here go up down ways do left on my way home and i passed the football arena there and it's got 70 80 000 people and it's raining and they screaming from the top of their voice yeah they streaming to a team that's losing ever got a witness here they hollering calling the names of the football player they got the jerseys on they're wearing the numbers they got the flags on the talk to me somebody and i don't care what you say about them they still holler for that team but isn't it amazing you got a winner that you're playing for yeah you have a winner yeah he's been a winner a long time that he'd taken care of your children the taking care of your spouse's uh giving your job to go to the kept in health and strength fought battles for you have a god witness him and we hold our peace i wonder what did the lord have to say about our silence when it comes to the law that the lord said make and i'm out of here make a joyful noise unto the lord on your land now and then watch what it's saying there serve the lord with gladness it didn't just say serve him but serve the lord i'm about to read the holland here serve the lord with lightness come before his presence with singing there know ye that the lord he is god ah it is he let him meet us and not we are sam do i have a witness and the lord is good his mercies everlasting his truth and do it to all generations i got one more piece in the text and i'll let y'all go there either the first thing do is remember shout remember one time so you won't forget it uh shout it one more time remember but then he said repent shout repent and then he said repeat but then he got something else he said elsa i will remove shout remover the lord said you got four choices remember repent repeat i'll be removed i don't know about y'all but i love the lord too much for him to move me out of the way uh i want to stay here until third sunday in this month we we're getting ready for christmas thanksgiving we need to add some features to what we're going to put in the baskets and we need the members to contribute some hams and turkeys we need to get to 300 of those if we can and so i need you all as members we just uh i want you to put it down now so you can kind of get your turkey you can get it early find somebody's got them and so we can start preparing to have something to put in the baskets for thanksgiving for for our for people that need something extra which i'll do that for us please ma'am please i won't ask for the amount now i won't count the turkeys today but we're going to count turkeys and hams in the next couple weeks until we get what we what we need i need us to be in prayer for the nephew of roosevelt howard where's roosevelt is he in the house stan roosevelt his nephew was in a serious accident need to be in prayer for that family we want them to know that we're lifting them before the lord amen roscoe braha just would you stand uncle this is maraschino hodges he's my he's my uncle uh he's deborah's uncle as well and and her brother uh cornelius the oldest brother has had a massive stroke and then intensive care and we're praying for that family that god would bless and keep them amen thank you bro roscoe so much all right um what am i missing okay sister glover's homegrown service was friday here in memphis and we was able to attend that service and then annette crawford the daughter of sister dr anne's it's going to be on the 9th that's in ohio we're praying for that family and then reverend iri uh that ire mallory the uncle of dog dale smith uh that service is friday dale is planning on going i don't know she's here you hear dale she's not here she's planning on going up there so let's pray for her and the family memorial service for sister sister anderson's son is still pending and then the service reverend robert l lee crawford that's rochelle's uncle we called him snowman we were classmates that service is going to be this coming saturday uh friday i'm sorry friday at 12 noon let's pray for that family if you will then finally i won't just kind of i didn't say this in the in the sermon but i need us to consider that especially when it comes to something of this nature i've said in so many so many marital retreats and what have you and they say that when you're married you should keep defy burning that's what they said you should keep it keep spark in the in the relationship y'all heard that too having you uh the same thing it took to get a person to take that hold on to him and you all knew what you did when you got ready to get somebody the man he dressed in his finest clothes and he put his best cologne on he didn't put it all on at one time but he put it he put his best cologne he had his shoes shining had his hair all slicked back he would even wash his car before he come see us see his girl would he not car would be shining and then she would have a hair all laid back fried and died every strain was in place she had on her best outfit he never saw her with a house coat on they never saw her toenails that hadn't been clipped none of that stuff and then she always was took a bath and was refreshed and all that y'all remember that i can't hear y'all then once you get married you know he stopped watching this car stop putting on he sits in the bed and bites his toenails off and she put her hair on the bed pose and and wear wear robe that you've had for 20 years and won't know why he ain't got no feeling well you ain't got no feelings for me like so the way we treated the lord when we first met him that's the way we ought to treat him now make sense to y'all but i've seen people and i'm through i've seen people get excited at a hamburger journey they just think about the lore and they in line getting him ready to holler glory i said what are you just thinking about jesus just stand by don't just get happy just you seen people do that in the same other place on glory hallelujah and they tell somebody about how good god is can i tell you we need to keep the fire burning let's stand all over the
