hello guys and as always thanks for tuning in J helm Singh here today we're going to talk about the ultimate competition Glock pistol their words not mine we'll get into that here in just a few moments I'd like to remind you guys at this time if you haven't done so like subscribe comment below kind of keep this channel going because that's what motivates me to make these videos and continue to bring you guys this content without further delay let's take a look at what we're talking about today in my hands I have the Glock 17 L and as you notice this thing has a long slide which is what that L stands for so this gun is used to be pretty rare and it's only made in small numbers and it is still produced today in small quantities so they you know recently had several of these come out with that summer special so there are more of these on the market it is kind of more of a you know contemporary gun now it used to be kind of a unicorn you know they were out there for a while and they were hard to get and the people that had them hung on to them and then Glock wasn't making too many of them so you can still get these and they are still on the Glaus website as of 2019 so we'll see how long that continues but yeah this bad boy has got a gigantic ly long slide so what we'll get into today I'll tell you guys a little bit about the gun itself we'll kind of do a little little walk around top to bottom of this and then I'll tell you guys the shooting impressions that I had with this gun so Glock touts this as the ultimate competition pistol from them as you guys know if you're kind of new to Glock you may be used to seeing the Glock 34 or 35 in competition there's a very good reason for that but this actually came out in 1988 so the Glock 17 L came out 1988 and as you'll notice it doesn't have its own number it's called a 17 L it's not called you know like a 49 or a 50 or a 51 or some kind of crazy number like that the reason is because this was designed from the ground up to be a competition gun and it's based very very heavily as you may notice off of the 17 so we'll kind of get into that here in just a minute but first let's take it top-to-bottom like I like to do on these on this gun from the factory they had adjustable sights so those sights I took off right away because they're just the Glock plastic adjustable sights they have the little dot front and in the rear they have that kind of adjustable windage thing back there I just don't like the Glocks sight picture so I think probably what most people will do right out of the box is throw those in the garbage just like you do with most lock sights and put on an accessible set of target or competition sights in this case I put on some tear and tactical sights very nice sights and a very you know worthwhile upgrade to these guns because the biggest advantage comes with this sight radius here and as you can see it has got a very very long sight radius the sights basically pushed out to the extreme ends of this slide now what sight radius basically does is it allows you to be a little bit more sloppy and still be accurate with the gun so that's why a lot of competition shooters prefer a longer slide or a longer sight radius they take just a little bit longer sometimes to acquire because obviously there's a little bit more fine movement to get that kind of front post it into the rear rear notch here but once you're there you really don't have to be SuperDuper precise you don't really have to clean up your sights as much and you're still going to get pretty accurate hits which is what I've noticed with this gun really the biggest advantage is going to be that sight radius on these guns I mean it is just a fantastic gun to shoot and it's easy to shoot accurately because like I say if you get that front post in this rear knotch somewhere it's probably going to be pretty close to an a zone hit so really fun gun to shoot very very accurate gun to shoot because of that we'll get on with the rest of it as you guys see this massive window here this this window is actually a little bit longer or larger I should say than what you're gonna see on a Glock 34 or 35 that is obviously to lighten the slide up so they can continue to use the stock recoil spring which I'll show you here in just a few moments and also not affect the slide timing in any way so it should reciprocate just the same as a Glock 17 does we're very close to what a Glock 17 does because the slide has been lightened up so much so it's relatively the same weight overall as a Glock 17 you know with that said this window is just massively huge and I think probably you know this wood might run into some issues with you know if you're really putting this under hard use or you know tactical or combat use which may be why this never really took off but with that said this would be an amazing nightstand gun I mean could you imagine a edge answering a bump in the night with a Glock 17 L you know really you've probably outdone anybody that had a you know at least a pistol in their hands maybe but you probably have more barrel lengths than they did so we'll get into that next let's take a look at the barrel this barrel is six point zero two inches in length and we'll take it out in just a moment you'll notice how gonzo this barrel is it's just kind of absurd looking when you take it out of there so obviously with that you're going to get higher velocities out of your ammunition you're going to get a better burn from your powder you might get a little more accuracy because the barrel has longer to stabilize that bullet before it comes out so all definitely definitely bonuses or pluses for the competition shooter which is why Glock made this pistol now what we're talking about the slide itself let's talk about the 34 and 35 so when this gun first came out Glock just kind of released this and said we're gonna make a long slide 17 let's make it for the competition shooters and really our pistol is so perfect that we don't need to change too much except for the slide link so let's just kind of add a few doodads here and there make a long slide drop it on the public and that's gonna be our competition model and that seems like a pretty decent idea except for the fact that a lot of these competitions use what they call a box so in order to shoot production like in USPSA or you know a lot of the IDPA categories you have to place your gun inside a box so the gun has to theoretically fit inside a box much like your luggage does your carry-on luggage on an airplane has to fit inside that box so the box was designed around a 5-inch 1911 that's obviously a problem for a gun with a six inch barrel so these do not fit in the production boxes for USPSA they don't fit in the IPSec box they don't fit in the IDPA box so it kind of immediately took them out of those categories so you really can't shoot these in production you can't shoot them in limited and USPSA you can shoot them and open you can shoot them in steel challenge you can shoot them in 3-gun there are a lot of different disciplines you can still shoot this gun as long as they don't use a box or a certain measurement now obviously that box is made to keep people from making these crazy wacky designs that might price somebody out or be just completely you know away from the practical side of things because obviously some of you were competition shooters might want to get as long as they can to increase that sight radius right because that's where you're going to get your advantage most of the time so that's just kind of some you know background on this gun and because of that like I say they didn't release the 34 and 35 to specifically fit in those boxes so you can you know obviously fit a third Glock 34 in a production box and that's why it's a little bit shorter than this gun if you shoot one of the other disciplines this would be a fine choice now we'll get into maybe some of the nuances of whether it's the best choice or not here in just a few moments continuing on with the gun itself you do have the Glock 17 gen 3 frame here so these only came in June 3 and everything else is going to be the same with the Glock 17 and the 17 L you have the same you know accessory rail here so you can mount a light if you wanted to use this as a tremendous bedside gun you can you know obviously make any changes or adjustments that you can to the 17 to this actual platform itself so there's really nothing mechanically different about it or anything like that except for the connector so inside here this has the - connector it's one of the first guns to have that - connector and I have heard people say that they used to take these lowers and they would put maybe a Glock 17 link slide on it to fit in a box but they kept that lower because the lower had to 17 excuse me the - connector in it that's three and a half pound connector which makes your trigger pull a little bit lighter other than that mechanically it's the same as a Glock 17 continue along with the slide itself or excuse me the pistol itself as we get down to this frame section let's take a look at the extended slide release so that is going to be one of the first guns to feature that obviously the other competition model is the 34 35 also come with this but that is one of the first to come with it also came with its extended mag release here so it is a gen 3 but you guys can see it does kind of protrude a little bit further that's the extended mag release there so all the controls have been kind of amplified a little bit to cater to the competition crowd other than that the rest of this is going to be standard glock faire there's nothing new or interesting or crazy really about it mag well is no different it's going to be like I say the entire lower half it's basically a Glock 17 gen 3 so nothing new there mag still holds 17 your standard Gen 3 magazine there no base plates or anything like that now let's take this bad boy part you can really see where things get a little bit gonzo with this pistol again inside nothing different there from your standard gin 3 Glock 17 as our camera focuses here except for this connector back here so this connector again is a - connector it's going to be a little bit lighter than what you get from your average Glock 17 the slide itself with that standard size recoil spring so the same recoil spring that you will find in the Glock 17 and here is that wacky crazytown barrel so there we go a 6.2 inch barrel it's it's just massive it really is and it might seem like not like on paper it's not a whole lot of difference but obviously in the hand and shooting this gun it really is different it is a very different looking gun it's basically like it's just stretched out it's kind of an interesting look interesting design there so that's the barrel there and again it takes apart just like a normal block 17 because it's basically just a normal block 17 that's been stretched out a little bit so we'll get this put back together and then we'll talk about the trigger so the trigger on this gun is a little bit lighter it's very crisp but there's really nothing that I could talk about that's any different than most of your lock triggers I mean Glocks or Glocks or locks and we can spend all day talking about Glocks or you can pretty much watch one good video on the Glock and get a pretty good feel for the entire family the entire line of Glocks right so I'll show you guys this on camera again this is a slightly reduced trigger pull so the take-up is pretty clean not a whole lot to complain about there we're gonna get back to that hardball that you find on these gen to region 4 Glocks and then just a little bit of pressure we're gonna break through that wall so go through reset cycle and this is gonna be standard Glock fare nice short reset nice crisp reset with really not much you know in the way of movement there so that's nice to see and it's like you say standard Glock fairy if you're used to shooting a Glock this is going to feel like all of your other Glock and again nice light trigger pull off that wall and about a Mach scale about four pounds of pressure we're gonna break that shot again so that's the trigger manipulation with this gun very nice for a Glock very nice for a gin three Glock but it is definitely not what I call competition grade especially nowadays so we'll get into some philosophy of use next like I say if you shoot a Glock normally if you just love Glocks if your duty weapon is the Glock you're not going to go wrong by shooting this in some of those classes or categories however you have to keep in mind that if you go into those categories with a Glock 17 L you're gonna be competing against open guns for the most part unlimited guns guns that people can do whatever they want to except for optics or maybe you know some things like that so you're gonna be going up against you know match-grade barrels you're gonna be going up against a completely tuned single action double action guns you're gonna be going up against you know $5,000 sti's and up you know all these kind of crazy wacky custom designs that are out there with basically a $600 ish Glock 19 Glock 17 with really not a whole lot of doodads done to it now I'm can't I'm not saying that you can't be competitive in that realm I'm just saying that for most people if you're gonna get serious about that shooting this gun may be a handicap unless you want to send it off to like tear and tactical or somebody and have them completely redo the gun and then you're talking about putting you know big money into a Glock basically which there's nothing wrong with that no a lot of people do but just kind of keep that in mind out of the box it's kind of one of those gray area guns where it just doesn't really perfectly fit any of those markets especially in contemporary competition shootings so I would keep that in mind if you plan on getting one of these now with that said this gun if you just like going to the range if you just like looking like a stud in front of your friends and really being able to put down some good shots with a Glock this is the gun to get this is a heck of a range gun okay so if you're not really in the competition market you just like to go out and shoot you want to shoot some cans or really you know just go to the range and have a good old time this is the gun to shoot because let me tell you about the shooting impressions of this guy it functions exactly like a Glock 17 which means it's very reliable I've not had any issues with reliability in this gun at all it takes everything you feed it there are no issues there and as some of you guys may know that ghin three Glocks or what people consider to be some people consider to be the closest to the master race of Glock out there so really not a whole lot goes wrong with these Gen threes occasionally you're gonna have some issues with the you know the the extraction pattern maybe get hit in the face with some brass or something like that but other than that they're extremely reliable guns and there's not a whole lot to go wrong with them they're pretty much ironed out you're gonna get that in this package no doubt now shooting this gun is fantastic because it's got all the nuances of a Glock however the length of this barrel really puts that kind of concussion in that report from the the actual you know bullet leaving the barrel that that kind of you know snap in front of your face gets pushed out even further so you're kind of further removed from it you're not you're not as you know exposed to that which means follow-up shots are very easy follow-up shots or you know nice this is a very pleasant gun to shoot because it kind of offsets that concussion away from you a little bit then slide the recoils in a very flat manner because it's so long it doesn't really have time to tip up as much and it stays a little bit flatter so it does come back and it seems to you know follow on to the next shot much easier than some other Glocks that I've shot very low muzzle rise because obviously you have that longer muzzle and the heavier barrel and things like that kind of keeping that down and planted it's just a fantastic fantastic barrel of fun to shoot at the range so if you guys have a chance to shoot one of these I would highly recommend it whether it's your friends or something like that a range rental if you can find one get some time behind one of these guns now it might not be one you're going to want to keep forever but it's definitely worth shooting because I'm telling you you can't leave the range without having a smile on your face after shooting one of these that's for sure so that's pretty much my take on it that's my overview my shooting impressions everything like that I do appreciate you guys tuning in I appreciate your viewership continue to like subscribe comment and kind of guide this channel as it goes along and as always don't just take my word for it continue to go out there do some research listen to some other people who do these reviews and build your own opinions on these guns okay and as always continue to research practice your craft and get out there to the range guys let's continue with this and I appreciate again you guys tuning in
