Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias

last year 45 000 people gathered in community they gathered re-emerging from a global pandemic that was life-altering for everyone and they gathered to share in laughter with Gabe Iglesias this was his jersey that night as he became the first comedian to play the largest baseball stadium in the United States LA's Dodger Stadium and sold it out [Applause] [Music] this puts him in rare company with a few other artists you might have heard of like the Beatles And The Rolling Stones so it was kind of a big deal but really this show in this moment this was a Bellwether for comedy showed the world we were ready to laugh again it showed that live stand-up performance was back Gabe iglesias's work has always been about bringing people together that show also marked Gabe's 25th year in comedy a path that started with an open mic night on a whim a path that included more than 20 years with Martine who's here with us today and I want to add that I really admire the way Gabe approaches his work by acknowledging those who came before him and the rigor that this art form demands it's my hope that the National Comedy Center teaches people those same things that today's comedy is part of an ever-evolving tradition that it's about hard work and that this art form is most impactful when it is used as a force for fostering human connection and no one does it better than you [Applause] and so I want to thank you for the donation of this incredible artifact that allows us to preserve yeah no I definitely I plan on coming back and I definitely want to support this because this is incredible um this this seriously you just you hear about it and you see the outside of the building you're like okay what are they gonna have okay a couple couple pictures and maybe a tea or something all right let's see what happens when I found out you guys had a concession stand I said no this is legit this is legit they will feed you here this is beautiful but no this is uh I feel very honored [Applause]
