what is up everyone welcome back to the channel in this video we're gonna give my old sun faded mk2 golf a proper exterior detail starting with a full decontamination followed by some polishing and paint correction as well as paint protection we have a lot of work ahead of us so let's get right to it [Music] but before we go ahead and start with the detailing process it's always a good idea to give the car a thorough inspection so you know what you're up against and besides the most obvious thing which is all of the sun faded panels we do have a lot of algaes and moss starting to form on the car or at least that's what i think it is and for that we're gonna treat it with some organic based degreaser which uh does seem to work really good for those kinds of contaminations and we do have some tar spots and some grease or rust proofing running out from some places as we can see right here as well as the wheels and the wheel arches which probably haven't been cleaned in a lot of years speaking of the wheels that's usually what i like to start with when it comes to an exterior detail like this and for that i'm actually trying out a new wheel cleaner from a swedish company called altidude.sc this one performed really well i have to say for the tire walls i'm using tough shines tire and rubber cleaner which works wonders when it comes to tire walls it's scrubbing away right here with a relatively stiff brush and the rims themselves i'm actually going to clean in two stages at least for now so that i get rid of the bulk of the caked in brake dust and contaminants on the rim itself and then for the actual agitation stage i'm doing it in the second pass as we can see right here the same thing right here i'm starting off with a relatively stiff brush just because these rims are really really neglected so that's just what you got to do a soft detailing brush wouldn't quite get the job done as [Music] [Music] effectively [Music] [Music] and i have to say these alloys came out relatively good considering they haven't been cleaned and who knows how long [Music] in order to get some better access to the wheel arches i'm just racing the car slightly so that i can fit an arm in there or so i have pre-rinsed the wheel arches and after that i'm applying some degreaser and on top of the degreaser i'm applying some foam and just letting it sit for a couple of minutes and then i'm going to come back with a brush and agitate everything and then rinse it off with the power washer that'll get you 80 90 there and actually yields good results now obviously the wheel arches won't look brand new again there are some rusting going on for example on the struts but as we're gonna see it definitely looks way better than it used to do for the other three corners i'm doing the exact same thing except that i'm not pre-washing them as i did with the first one i'm just agitating all of the cleaning agents in one in one go that actually yielded in good results as well i couldn't tell any difference actually [Music] with the wheels and wheel arches done it's time to shift focus to the paint itself starting with a pre-rinse just with the power washer trying to get rid of as much loose debris as i possibly can and if you're worried that i'm holding the power washer too close the nozzle too close don't worry i actually set my power washer to a relatively low pressure i managed to get rid of a lot of loose algaes and moss or whatever it is stuck to the paint but there were still a lot of ingrained contaminants that needed some degreasers and some pre-wash detergents as we're gonna see now the pre-washing stage or the preparations prior to polishing or compounding is really important so you don't just load the polishing pad with a bunch of contaminants and just pushing them around on the paint creating a lot of marring as a result so the pre-wash stage is really important and obviously we're gonna have to do a lot of scrubbing with the wash pad itself when it comes to the shampooing stage so it's best to do a really thorough pre-wash so that we can reduce the marring introduced by the scrubbing itself here you can see me applying some tar remover on the dry paint i actually let it dry after the pre-rinse and the reason for that is that these sorts of degreasers are best used on dry paints according to the instructions this does a great job on dissolving petroleum-based contaminants such as tar spots and grease in general so i'm only applying this to the sides of the car and the rear of the car where those sorts of contaminants live as we can see here does a great job on dissolving tar spots and some overspray of rust proofing as we can see right here then while the cold degreaser is doing its work i'm applying the organic degreaser on top of it and the rest of the car making sure that no cleaning detergent dries on the surface that is especially important right now when we're dealing with a single stage paint if one of these chemicals dries on the paint it can actually create some deep etching in the paint here we can see the organic degreaser doing its work dissolving all of the contaminants the power washer couldn't handle then on top of everything before it dries i apply a layer of foam on top of everything in the entire car i love using this method it seems to do a really good job in on dissolving everything and giving it uh as powerful pre-wash as you can possibly imagine and while the foam sits and it's doing its thing i'm actually going over everything with a detailing brush on all of the crevices and all of the rubber trim this actually was a pretty lengthy process so i reapplied the foam a couple of times to avoid everything drying on the surface and as we can see here the suds turn almost black because of all of the algaes and moss and faded plastic trims [Music] so yeah just take your time do everything properly reapply the foam a couple of times if you have to this rinse right here was super satisfying just seeing all the brownish suds getting rinsed off [Music] with the pre-wash stage done it's time to follow that up with a contact wash and for that i'm just using jion's bed which is a natural shampoo containing no waxes or sealants or anything like that because we are gonna polish the car after this stage so just a ph neutral normal shampoo if you will is best used here before a polish and this is not a time to be afraid to give the car a good scrub because remember this car hasn't been touched in years so it's really crucial that we get it as clean as possible prior to the polish i am going to clay the car but you know it's good to rely as little as possible on the claying process and just give it a good scrub right now because this is a milder technique than the claying process itself foreign [Music] with every square inch of the car's outside panels done it's time to rinse the car once again now it's time for the claying process which is really important prior to any polishing or compounding job that you can do so i'm just going over every panel in vertical and horizontal lines and just folding over the clay bar every once in a while [Music] and even though this car was in such a neglected state the clay bar actually didn't pick up too much contaminants just because we did a very thorough pre-wash and a contact wash then it's obviously time to dry the car the last time before the polishing process the very last step i do prior to polishing is to tape up any black plastic or rubber trim the polishing compounds i'm gonna be using in this video is from a swedish company called king carter links will be down in the description what i'm suspecting with this paint is that there's to be a lot of dead paint sticking to the pad itself so washing out the pads frequently is going to be key with this detail so i'm actually starting off with a relatively aggressive combination and that is with a microfiber cutting pad as well with the cutting compound but i quickly realized that it actually cut the paint too much and that it loads up the microfiber cutting pad way too quickly so i then realized that it's a better approach to do the first pass sort of like a mow down pass i know that larry from ammo nyc that's another youtube channel he also touches upon that subject that when you're dealing with a heavily oxidized paint like this the pad is going to get gunked up really quickly so to just go over it with perhaps a softer foam pad together with say a medium polish is a pretty good approach and use some extra polishing compound at first on the first go so that you just mow down the majority of the oxidization and so that you can wipe it off relatively easy afterwards because if you do use a too aggressive approach wiping the compound off will be quite tricky and everything will just seem to stick together and you will create a lot of friction between the pad and the paint itself and here you can see me washing out the pad which is pretty crucial after say a panel or so you could also blow out the pad but if you really want to clean it i'm just rinsing it with some hot water and then just spinning it out on the highest setting there into a bucket and that way it's relatively dry afterwards and you can just repeat the process and here i'm using a soft foam pad together with the polish to create a pretty good finish in the paint now the hood actually had some damage in it as well as some other panels so to get it completely perfect you would have to repaint some of the panels on this car but as we're gonna see later on in the video this paint correction definitely took it pretty far [Music] for the more intricate areas i'm using a two inch compressed air driven polisher as you saw right there [Music] this is the initial result right here and as you can see it's a pretty major improvement and i actually did try a rotary buffer along with a wolf's pad but i quickly realized that was a way too aggressive of an approach it was practically impossible to wipe off the residue afterwards so i stuck with the technique of um first mowing everything down with a medium foam pad together with a medium compounding polish and that was actually pretty good as a one step as well so i just settled for that combination for those panels that weren't too heavily oxidized and scratched up [Music] [Music] and along the side here as i mentioned previously i'm just using a medium cut polishing pad together with a medium polish and just going over it one or two times that actually created a pretty good finish as a one-stage polish [Music] [Music] to offer the car protection and up the gloss furthermore i'm using soft 99's fuzzo coat but before i apply it i'm just going over each panel with some ipa and wiping it down to make sure that it's squeaky clean in order to apply the protection this sealant is relatively easy to work with as long as you follow the instructions and don't overuse it don't apply too much because then it will be pretty difficult to buff off i'm just sanding down the wiper arm that i previously removed and applying a quick layer of black paint just to temporarily make it look a bit better to restore the faded black trim first of all i'm just scrubbing them down with damp magic eraser because what makes them look faded and dull you guessed it surface oxidization so in order to remove that in an efficient way i'm just going over it with the magic eraser which in itself makes them look ten times better but then i also protect and dress them with car pro pearl of course i'm also applying pearl to the freshly cleaned tire walls with the last finishing touches done here are the results [Music] [Music] kisses guys if you enjoyed this video make sure
