hey guys everyone welcome back to the channel in today's video well we've got the one you've all been patiently waiting for we have the cleanup of the boxer finally the ferrari is going to get some tlc that it very much deserves but our cleanup video will not be complete without the main man himself the master of makeover larry aka ammo nyc hey guys i hope you're doing well today we're going to be working some magic on scott's ferrari i am super excited now i wish i could actually go to the uk but for very obvious reasons with the global pandemic i can't exactly get there so what i did was i sent him a bunch of products and then i'm going to be on camera with him facetime and just sort of going through the process and and working it with him to kind of clean this thing up now by the time that the whole thing is over clearly it's not going to be in concourse shape but it's probably going to be enough once he works on the engine to get him back on the road and enjoy the car once again so without further ado let's go through the steps and clean up this ferrari so grab yourselves a beverage of choice kick back and watch us transform this poor neglected ferrari [Music] scott discovered this 1983 ferrari 512 bbi a few months ago as it sat in a driveway virtually abandoned it hasn't been moved started or cleaned for over 12 years and was last on the road in 2008 with just over 6 400 miles and a long documented history at one point in its life it was actually believed to be the best boxer in the uk if not the world at the time sitting outside and uncovered the british weather clearly has taken its toll even so it still took scott six months to convince the owner to part with the ferrari but with all that behind us now the goal is to save this forgotten poster car and get her cleaned up and preserved the very first job is just a basic vacuum to remove the loose dirt and debris and really to get a better idea of the condition of the material that we'll be working with and when i say we i mean scott we've got some typical british weather today it's very changeable outside so we're going to start from here this morning the light is pretty good and we're going to hit the front area with the vacuum [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign in order to do a good cleanup on this ferrari i need to get some great access around the car which means i need to be able to move it which currently is a bit of a problem i have a 308 outside blocking its path and if you remember correctly i borrowed the battery out of the 308 to do some electrical testing on this when we originally got it now i need to put the battery back in there so i can start that one and we're going to treat the boxer to a brand new battery of its own we're gonna try and keep that on budget again and that is where today's video sponsor honey comes in perfectly let me quickly demonstrate how easy honey works i simply shop online for a battery put in all the details required and the battery i want with a five-year guarantee comes in at 214.99 when i go to checkout honey drops down and all i have to do is click on apply coupons wait for a few seconds as honey searches for the best coupon it can find for that site if honey finds a working coupon just watch as the prices drop i just saved 96 pounds 75 that's a whopping 40 on my battery and there you go by using honey i've just saved a small fortune to install honey it's just two clicks and you know that honey has found its 17 million members over 2 billion in savings it's literally free and installs in a few seconds and works on whatever browser you use if you have a computer honey should be on it and by getting it you'll be doing yourself a solid and helping to support this channel to get honey for free head to joinhoney.com rata rossa and i want to say a massive thanks to honey for supporting today's video the interior despite being covered in layers of dog hair has survived remarkably well it's not damp it's not moldy and surprisingly there's no rodent or insect nests anywhere this may be a testament to the door trim holding up reasonably well over the past 12 years which is a pleasant surprise now while scott works the interior a bit let's discuss a few steps as i've never detailed an entire car over the phone like this so it's going to be an exciting challenge to say the very least so the very first thing we're gonna do is break down the cleaning into four general areas for simplicity the interior the front clam trunk area the engine and of course the entire exterior the goal of course is to preserve the vehicle without causing any additional damage due to its age and patina [Music] first let's focus on the interior with the seats out of the car vacuum up as much as you possibly can work the area slowly and use a brush to agitate the fibers on the floor and the mats as needed [Music] [Applause] once done with the basic vacuum apply ammo shag to the fibers and agitate with a medium to stiff bristled brush afterwards pick up the lifted dirt and grime with either a wet bag a shampoo machine or even an absorbent turry towel cloth depending on the tools you have at your disposal now we're working the carpets first to allow them the longest dry time throughout the entire sculpting i'm applying this ammo shag to the carpet and i can't tell you guys how good this stuff smells [Applause] [Music] [Applause] next scrub the plastics and leather with ammo lather and an interior brush or scrub pad for those really tough areas now keep in mind when you start off on a car with this age and its rarity working with the least aggressive method first is a really good idea so in this case spray lather with your microfiber towel and then just simply wipe and see how it looks if this accomplished your goal and the material is now clean and no dried out leather dye was removed you can just continue on this path and don't go any more aggressive however if it didn't and you need more aggressive nature then you can use the brush and then lastly the aggressive pad to remove anything that's really stuck on since i'm obviously not standing with you you're going to have to use your judgment in this case and remember the proverbial less is more is no more important than on vehicles in this condition cleaning is super easy knowing when not to clean takes experience and a bit of self-control so make sure you take your time once a lather is built up from the interior brush scoop up the suds before it dries if you have compressed air it can be super helpful to blow out the seams and crevices here as well i'm starting to hit all the lever in the car now with mousse just treat it and this is just drinking the stuff up absolutely lapping it up it's so dry now i noticed on the dashboard that it had a split or maybe some shrinkage and this is common with cars that are left out in the sun over time and by the looks of it i think it can be repaired by an interior specialist like my buddy brian from fibre news so all is not lost but for now during the cleaning process try not to get it super wet just gingerly avoid it if you can likewise the glass on some of the gauges seem to be foggy as well now this is most likely on the inside of the glass but it's hard to say from just pictures and being on the phone with you give it a wipe and see what how it reacts if nothing really happens then consider removing that part from the dash to gain access to the back side and then you can polish it by hand the dash has really started to come up nicely i'm very happy how this interior has survived this bit of leather larry is right that is gonna have to be replaced i've cleaned it up for now luckily though it is quite an easy one to replace it's just a flat panel that whole panel there it's not attached to this it's separate parts of the front of this dash so it's a flat panel and it's just the cutouts there so that i've also done that already on my uh testarossa over there so it can be done it's just a matter of getting it out there the other part is these yes larry is right it is on the inside i'm not going to attempt to take all the clocks out today because that is a major job and i want to take my time doing it regarding the roof material well i think this is a case where knowing when to clean and when not to clean is applicable here it looks quite good and i don't really want to spray product on it and potentially cause problems so what we're going to do is i'm just going to hit it with the vacuum and this very soft bristled brush and that will be it we're just going to leave it like that once round one of the interior is done let it dry and then focus on the seats that are in your garage these look a bit dirty and crazy thirsty first use lather and an interior brush then scoop away the suds with a microfiber towel repeat on the entire seats front and back and if you have compressed air they're super helpful when working on seats these seats are so dry even the lather is just soaking in look at that before i even get a chance to use it so i applied the mousse as larry said we gave it a good old cleanup but then i still had a lot of sun bleached kind of damage on their fade so i applied some leather colorant we've got a color match for the seats just with a sponge and it literally has made them like new one final job they've been drying overnight so we're just gonna apply some mousse this is probably going to be the first of many applications on this because they are still so dry that's the other one and the spare wheel that has come up an absolute treat just on the tyres with some mud that's ready to go back in the car we're doing a giveaway on some of these amazing ammo products if you want to win them keep watching and i'll tell you how you can do that a little later on for the wheels and tires i'm not going to waste too much time they're going to get a quick wash just to make them look a bit more pretty the reason being is the wheels are going off to be refurbished and the tyres as you can see are completely shot there's so many cracks on them they are basically garbage we do have a brand new set of period correct michelin trx tyres uh to go on this one supplied by my guys at long stone we'll be going into that in a future video they'll be going on the car there is one thing that we do need to do though and that is all of these chrome pieces so the spinners here and the little trim piece behind we're going to try and clean that up and just see if we can uh save these with all of the rust let's take this one it's the worst one of the four we're going to just use some metal polish and just rub it in with a microfiber towel well there you go that is a lot more shiny and a lot less rusty than it was before there's still some pitting in there but for now that is a big vast improvement now with the interior looking much better step two is to focus on the engine before the ground and the rear quarter panel gets wet meaning the rest of the car is wet and you have to lean over it it's just not a good idea to do that so focus on the engine first now before we can start working on the engine lid and cleaning this up there's a job i need to do first and that is as you can see through here in all of these vents just sat on top of this mesh there is just loads of leaves and just debris that's built up over the years if we come around the other side come around this side you can really see it just all poking through there we go and again even worse over here so we gotta get all of that out which is not an easy task that's one son daddy two more two guys that's probably gonna take you forever sure is next job what you have to do is remove this kind of foam shielding from the underside of the engine lid if you watch this it literally just disintegrates and as you can see we've put some bin liners down just to stop it going everywhere but i'm going to try and get that out as much as possible straight into a bin liner [Music] we're going to remove these air intakes we've got some replacements of those thanks to red bay cars [Music] with the clam shell open blow out and or scoop as much of the heavy junk as possible in the door jambs or in the areas around the engine because if you get them wet later on they just turn to muck and it's just it's kind of a pain in the butt later on so just scoop out or suck out with a vacuum as much as you possibly can once again if you have compressed air this is a really good time to use it next if there's any special pieces like a ferrari logo or descriptions that can be removed remove them and then cover up the air box or anything sensitive with towels and plastic sheets from what you told me over the phone you're removing and rebuilding the engine anyway so i guess it doesn't really matter but it's a good precaution and definitely a healthy routine either way next lightly spray or use hot water on the dirty parts of the engine and use your wheel brush to agitate them with ammo brute or if you don't have that use ammo foam the idea here is just to create lots of scrubbing and to remove the first layer of grit and grime maybe have a little bucket or a cup or something filled with hot water and some soap in there and then dip your tools in clean them off and then go back and clean the engine then go back and dunk them in the cup that sort of thing afterwards rinse using your steam machine if possible to minimize water usage if that's a concern otherwise just lightly power wash it i've not spent too much time on this basically it's had a good old vacuum we've blown all of that all the debris away it's safe to work on now the next job on this car is the engine is going to be coming out so it'll give me much more access around here to clean up all of the individual components i've just put these in place just to give you an idea how it can start to look eventually but like i say it's safe to work on now this is a complete massive task in itself so we're going to focus on that a little later on as i was filming the interior cleanup of the car this happened so we've got the cover on uh we're going to see what happens but um you wanted to see the car white again it really is white anyway let's hope it melts very quickly step four is where we really start to see a huge difference first remove any thick layers of moss by hand which i have to say i've never said or thought of in my life to do so this one this is the first one for me once most of the heavy stuff is gone then soak the paint with ammo foam and boost for an extra kick put them both in your foam cannon and soak the paint thoroughly allowing it to penetrate the seams and the jams okay let's do it first wash in 12 years i have to admit i'm a little bit nervous we got all the stuff ready let's do it once completely covered use your brushes to agitate the tight spots around the vehicle first headlights window sills grills engine grills and anywhere that grind behind next power wash the remaining soap off the car and then spend some time rinsing the paint while taking notice of the paint's condition in that process is the dirt coming off or is it still sticking are the windowsills leaking or not just sort of basic stuff to look out and become more familiar with the strength and again the integrity of the paint and its parts afterwards re-foam the paint and then wash with a microfiber towel or whatever you have that's handy in this case scratching the paint is really not a concern because the paint is so far gone just be gentle and do your best to remove the junk from the surface [Applause] what makes this particular example extra special is that there is only 42 right hand drive boxers made and only one of those 42 is painted in white so obviously a preservation mentality is super important when we're working on this detail [Music] [Music] hmm [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] afterwards clay the paint if possible next dry the paint with compressed air in a microfiber towel to brighten up the paint a bit you need to use compound and polish to exfoliate all the dead skin off the car now this can be a little bit tricky and certainly more experience can be helpful in these situations as the paint is very soft and certainly fragile so you're gonna need to do your best you may need to use a dual action polisher and of course the whole concept of less is more is really applicable here okay as you can see guys after one part of the clay looking much much better it's hard to show on camera with the white but really really still ingrained there after all the washing for the clay starting to really come through the still some areas here if you look closely it's a little bit yellowy but uh we'll go over the whole car with clay which is gonna take me a long time probably a couple of clay bars and a lot of lubrication but anyway let's do it let's get this back looking good well guys i've got the polisher out we've got some 105 and a cutting pad and as you can see it really is starting to look good here massive transformation to when i got the car i am by no means a professional at all this really is a job for larry but all things considered it is not looking too bad what i am finding though is this pad is getting gummed up very very quickly so with my professional blowout station here this makeshift box uh this is getting blown out quite often but uh yeah it's looking good you're probably not gonna see me too much on camera doing this because uh otherwise it can be a thousand comments of how bad i am at doing it anyway let's crack on if you're happy with the condition then add ammo reflex pro to protect what you have and give it long-term protection in the future with antimicrobial additives to minimize any future growth for the glass use a razor blade or razor blade extension along with glass cleaner to get the closest shave possible use the blade at a 45 degree angle and wipe with the three towel method squeegees can also be super helpful here as well finally add mud to your tires to your trim and any rubber you want protected and moisturized let me give you guys a quick tour of the front show you how this has come out well the products as you can see have worked wonders compared to how this car was look at that don't get me wrong there's a lot of work to be done things like this all needs to be cleaned out when the rad comes out we'll be doing the fans but as a stage one clean up look at that well that is all the glass cleaned on the car and i really do hate glass cleaning but there is one final job because getting treated to some new wiper blades they can go in the trash there's one and then with this tiny little one here well guys what can i say look at that i am blown away at how well this ferrari has transformed from the car that i discovered just a few months ago it's absolutely incredible what can be achieved check out the interior look at that came up so well now don't get me wrong it's not a full concourse restoration there are a lot of imperfections on this car as larry pointed out we weren't expecting miracles with this one but we have discovered what needs to be done there is a long journey on this one and you can follow that along with the other cars on this channel by smashing that subscribe button clicking that bell and you'll get a notification when i post new videos on this or the other cars check this out i cannot wait to get that engine started and drive this car for the first time in 12 years and there's one final thing that we need to do and that is give this car something that it really does deserve that it's been lacking and missing for a long long time and that is the ferrari logo well guys there's the result there is actually a boxster underneath all of that dirt and the thing looks unbelievable sort of harkens back to the 1980s poster that you had on your wall this thing is unbelievable but there is a lot more work to be done i'm sure he's got to play with the engine suspension wheels and so on but soon enough i believe the car is going to be on the road now from my perspective i just want to reach out and say thank you to scott and his viewers for involving ammo hopefully once this whole chaos is over i can come out visit you guys in the uk and take this thing for a drive in the meantime thanks for watching and be well now i've got to say a massive thanks to ammo for all of the help all of the advice and of course the amazing products that have transformed the ferrari i'm going to put a link in the description below the video where you can buy all the products that i use today plus many more but don't forget as i mentioned earlier we are giving away some products totally free to some lucky viewers all you have to do to be in a chance to win those is simply to be subscribed to my channel rata rossa ammo nyc and leave a comment below which vehicle or mode of transport you would love to see ammo detail for example it could be something white and crazy like a concord aircraft how long would that take him to detail anyway guys thank you very much for watching i hope you enjoyed it don't forget you can check out what i get up to on a daily basis over on my instagram channel until the next one ciao for now [Music] you
