please welcome Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins [Applause] welcome thank you great to have you on the show and this is Cecilia she's she she's the world champion in boxing we're not mess with her I'm now sitting here with two of the world's leading drummers I would say but but on this latest album mm-hmm you you have a few guests and a few very famous guests and one of them is a third drummer or isn't really a drummer but he he dropped down on the album yeah tell me about that well what happened well Taylor also sings and Taylor makes records on his own and has a great voice and he's son on Foo Fighters records before so there was a song that we had written and I thought it would be interesting to have Taylor sing it I knew it would sound great so then Taylor said well maybe you should play drums and I thought okay just to sort of switch the dynamic we've done it before we've done it before and then we heard that Paul McCartney was coming into town so we thought let's ask Paul McCartney to play the drums most people don't think of him as a drummer but he's a great drummer amazing John he played and on the run the first Paul McCartney solo record and a few assorted Beatles songs that's him but the guy could play anything I mean if we asked him to come in and play xylophone he'd like whoa well give it a shot do something great and it would be great you know I mean how does it work okay I can understand that and he's a good drummer perhaps but still how does it go or do you do you like do you have his phone number do you how does yeah I mean we've we've known him for a long time and you know he's the nicest most wonderful genuine generous beautiful person he's just a good guy and so we've recorded with them and we've played with them live and and we've become friends and so someone had this crazy idea to ask him if he would do it so I just texted him and I said hey do you want to play drums on a Foo Fighters song and he said you always have crazy ideas and then the next time I saw him he I didn't want to push it on him I didn't want to impose and he said he said well what's this song that you're you want me to play drums on and I kind of hummed it to him and and then I left it at that and then I saw him again and he said well when do you want to do it and that's when I realized that he was really into it mm-hmm and I said well [ __ ] whenever you want to do it you know that's and so then we just set the date and it was a Sunday afternoon and he came in and he there were five drum sets in the room and he brought his own drum set and you know he's I've never seen him play the drums and it's you're used to seeing him on piano or in guitar or bass whatever but to see him play the drums it it's it's great because you can see you can see the same kid that was learning how to play guitar listening to early rock and roll in his bedroom you know that's you could see it at his face when he's playing he's not playing like this you know he's going like that kind of thing and it was great we did one take and that was it and that was it I mean he never heard the song if you look at him ready for the course like that just knows what to do you know it's mainly these days you're both fathers you have three kids what's what's the least rock'n'roll thing about being a dad oh god just being a dad really you know it's just normal sort of stuff the same stuff all of you guys do you know and make breakfast for them in the morning and you know it's funny because we're gone a lot obviously so wouldn't and so mom's kind of doing most of it you know it so when when you come home mom's like okay I'm sleeping in yeah and that's when the that's when the real work begins you know the last time we got home my wife bought these new kind of diapers I have a 11 year old an 8 year old and a three year old she bought these new diapers they weren't the kinds with like the latch they just like they pull them out yeah yeah so I come home and I'm just all excited for my daughter to wake up she wakes up and I pick her up out of the crib and she says changed my diaper yeah sure and so I put her down to change the diaper and I just immediately like pull this diaper off and excuse me for being graphic not the way to do it it was the biggest [ __ ] and I just was on the thing was on my arm and it was on my shirt like no no no no way you are already in trouble with your wife so it was 15 minutes of don't move don't move and then one wipe and do this and then one wipe and do that and so I bet you every rock star that you've ever seen on a poster or on TV has been in that same situation where they're in an uncomfortable position where their babies [ __ ] is just all over you know before before you take the stage we got to talk about last time you were in Sweden right because that didn't go as clap no um thing is we have some pictures here okay because someone in the audience this is a live a stadium in Gothenburg it's it's a big thing and look at you what do you do here what what is the thing what's happening well I tripped over a cable and I knew that I was coming down to towards the the ground so I thought I would sort of just jump and when I landed I dislocated my ankle and I broke this bone right here and I was just kind of in shock and it was kind of embarrassed because [Applause] that was embarrassment in the shock yeah how about the pain there was no pain there was no pain none you you you continue to I don't think use and I don't think the band saw me they couldn't see what was happening what did you what did you see I didn't see anything they were just like I was just playing and finally Nate remain our bass player I think Nate our bass player is like dude stop Dave's hurt and I was like what and then I would die we all just went to the lip of the stage and look down and Davis literally just lay now it's bad hold it like with his guitar going I broke my [ __ ] leg dude and we're just like oh but it was only the second song of the show yeah B usually we play for three hours or something and it was a stadium there were 50,000 people there it was the second so we'd only been on stage for eight minutes so so and what I went you know I mean I felt I felt obligated I felt like all of those people had come to this show and they'd spent their hard-earned money and they took the train there and they waited for it all month long and then they come to the show and eight minutes later like it's over you know that's terrible and so I looked at Taylor and I said I said I mean I was out of my mind so I said I said I'm gonna go fix this I'll be right back and I said Taylor you think you know and so they kept playing they took off my shoe and my ankle was kind of falling off and the bone was broken and they said they said your ankles dislocated and we have to put it in right now I looked at my tour manager and I said give me a big cup of [ __ ] whiskey right now and I said halt and then they put it back in and the guys are still playing you know and that audience is still there and then I I thought that I could just sit down and finish the show if i sat in a chair and I asked them I said well can I go play and they said we got to put a brace on it and they wanted to take me to the hospital but I said no no why don't you get the brace or something and then I'm gonna go up to finish playing and someone said well we have to hold your ankle in place and I said well then you have to [ __ ] come onstage and hold my ankle while I play and so these guys were playing they're playing Queens under pressure which we were definitely fitting songs this is maybe like 10 15 minutes later or something it's come carrying me up and I've got my leg sticking out like this and they put me in a chair and right in time for the final chorus exactly perfect and someone had to stand there sit there and hold my ankle like that and we played for another hour I have to tell you that someone is a Swedish doctor and he is here tonight so hard please welcome dr. yuan some songs [Applause] I remember I remember your face perfectly because you were just like this but then sometimes like during during some songs with you know at first I don't know how you felt but I was like yeah you know you were really still and then maybe after a couple songs you start going blinking your eyes and they said pretty fun is that yeah yeah from a doctor's perspective yeah what kind of patient did you have here what do you think about your patient I have an esse patient he was impatient you know on the stage again so I don't think that you realized that if I owned properties the food will go yeah so I sat down and hold it and we we didn't have any plaster so so I had to make a decision right there right now what are we going to do so we didn't have an applause to science and two nurses one of them is my wife actually to go and get some plaster from the hospital and crutches and painkillers and all that and by then you convinced me to go up on stage with you and I I don't know what's really happening only sorry arms on my knees before you and then you had your guitar oh yes [Laughter] even though you you are proper doctor and you are a very professional doctor obviously you're also a big Foo Fighters fan yeah so poor before exactly because you didn't really want him to go to hospital right now I had the concert to listen just go away you know in the way this was your lucky night as well it was my life really yeah for sure you created some problems for other artists I think that night because you you can't really blame a cold anymore counselling around panic well I mean I don't know what I'm [ __ ] crazy so don't don't pay attention to me yeah Taylor they've the stage is yours and the band is waiting so please thank you so much thank you [Applause] one more thing what's the sex what you say [Applause] [Music] you
