hey guys everyone welcome back to the channel in today's video i'm gonna be trying to get the engine out of the boxer so we can start some service work and just see how bad everything is back there but in order to do that i need some space which is a little bit of a problem around here i have a plan though we're going to move the test roster into storage and that way i've got all of this area to play with while i do that make sure you guys grab yourselves a nice cup of coffee kick back and enjoy cheers [Music] with the engine lid off the back of the car well first of all how mean does that look we're gonna have to take it out for a drive like that at some point but it has also created a lot of space here to work around and the plan here is we're gonna start from the back we're going to move all of the exhaust system which is in various components back bumper work our way forward all the bell housing needs to come off here we crane it out the top here which means the engine needs to come forward slightly to clear all of the framework there but then we've got a frame here hence this needs to come off and then it should be coming out so we're going to remove all of this side bits let's crack on [Music] [Music] now this is going to be a big operation and there's a lot of components that are going to come off this car probably more than just normally taking the engine out because we're going to be refurbishing a lot of the stuff so as i take things off i'm going to bag them up put a little label on them and keep them with the various parts that way hopefully i should be able to put it all back together and know where it all goes okay bumper off now as expected we've got some very seized up rusty bolts we've got some here some down the bottom i've got everything off i can but there's about four or five bolts that i just cannot get off so we're gonna have to cut them [Applause] [Music] all right there's time start removing these bad boys [Music] we have all the back boxes off now and next it is down to the manifolds here the headers these comprise of two either side two separate bits so four in total now one thing i've noticed already is right here and uh the metal is gone and it's the same on this side here so i and it looks if you look at the rest of it it's pretty rusty we'll get them off and we'll make a call on if they can be fixed or if they're going to need to be replaced somehow got all of the exhaust system off the car now and to be fair it's actually really really in good condition a bit of surface rust on here but if anyone has got any recommendations on how to clean this up or a good company that can make this look new please do put those in the comments below the video next job is to get the manifolds off the car but first of all i need to move the test rossa [Music] now it's all good fixing up these barn find ferraris but life would be so much easier if i just had a supercar that i didn't have to do all this work on and that's where today's video sponsor comes in perfectly with the answer botb are the dream car competition company to give away two cars every week in their dream car a midweek car competition and as well as lowering ticket prices they've added 50 000 pounds cash to every single car in the dream car competition there's over 150 different cars to choose from check out some of my current favorites there's everything from the lamborghini urus the huracan porsche tycoon turbo but there's some ultra cool classics like this e30 bmw m3 or this classic 911 tickets start at just one pound 50 and the nice thing is all of these cars unlike my ferrari they actually work this could be you botb.com someone wins their dream car every week guaranteed seriously you have won a brand new lamborghini hurricane evo oh a brand new bmw m2 competition i watch people win this competition all the time i'm thinking jesus this is me beotv have given away over 38 million pounds worth of prizes over the last two decades of winners and who knows you could be next enter today at botb.com i'll put the link in the description below the video and i want to say a massive thanks to botb for sponsoring today's video and making content like this possible so i'm struggling a little bit with the boxer and the engine we've got my man here rob from salvage rebuilds uk he's uh giving me a bit of advice what do you think's wrong with it right i know what's wrong with it the flux capacitors well you get your tools ready yeah we're going to fix it yeah i reckon that'll work yeah well don't worry by the end of it rob is going to have this running without a problem [Music] so [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] we're trying to undo all the bolts on the axle shaft here but it is an absolute nightmare everything is taken 10 times as long literally because i can't get to anything now i've got the manifold underneath it here i've got to come in for this tiny little gap and i've got a uh knock the little pins off the locking tabs so i can actually undo the bolts here but there's just no way of doing it also trying to do uh the engine mounts again it just can't get to anything so it is really taking a lot longer than i thought it was gonna i just popped out and picked up this long shaft screwdriver hopefully i can get in that gap now and just knock off those locking tabs as they say it's always good to have a nice long shaft now as you can see in there oh down there our shaft is now free look at that good nice bit of grease in there so can we get that manifold out now let's have a look all right let's see if we can get the angle on this one yo that's good now luckily i sprayed a load penetrating fluid on these a couple of weeks ago it definitely has helped so uh let me see how many of these i can get off some real tight angles so i'm gonna have to get my hands up in there i think on some of these what about that one over there [Music] got a bit of a dilemma here i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get these manifolds off the car they are all loose there is no bolts anywhere as you can see but they wrap around a little drive shaft the axles there and i know it can be done i've seen pictures of it but i just cannot figure out how to get them either out the back here or out of that gap there it's just impossible anyway the plan is lift the engine these are loose they should just sit here and the engine should go up anyway so uh hopefully that works so the plan is to remove all of these fuel lines from the injectors we've got a 12 mil spanner to go on the injector 14 mil to go on here on these caps i'm sure this is probably the first time it's been done since this car was built in 1983 so oh i'm expecting the worse [Music] ah foreign [Music] so the pile is growing bigger and bigger we have the fuel metering units air boxes the pipes gradually working our way but you can see we've got a lot more access to the sides now you can see how bad the paint is peeling off so we've got to do the engine mounts there's some pipes here that need to come off throttle cable let's get on i had no clutch head or anything like that wow there you go right let's see what we got with this clutch so it just looks like it's really just rusted itself together here all the teeth on the fly will look good i'm probably gonna have to uh change that i think so let's have a look at this another part as a transfer case now let's come out there now that's interesting because i thought this arm i thought this was all c solid but clearly it's not maybe maybe it was this cylinder that's the bearing that's not bad it's not bad at all and then obviously that that's okay that's not c so that's good so it's more likely either that or the actual clutch that's rusted together that's causing me problems there the knifes can be rectified good here we go we actually got any oil in it that's the question oh yeah we have never quite goes to plan that but does it there we go well let's let that drain out and uh i'll come back in a second and show you what it looks like i'm just gonna get the second oil filter off and then we're almost done down here all the oil's been drained from the car now had a real nightmare with these two pipes here these oil lines feed into the block and uh this one here that one is a what's a 36 mil and the big one up here this one that one was this huge sucker that's a 46 mil and uh i didn't have either of those in my tool kit so i had to i mean thank god for amazon prime they turned up this morning so i was able to just uh get in there and get those two off so everything is out at the back here i've got a couple more little things to do i've got an alternator bolt up the top which again i just cannot get to these engines are an engine out service and oh i wouldn't want to do this for a living honestly that's pretty cool look at that i might keep it as a souvenir ferrari i bet you can't get a blue one like that anymore here's all the oils come out and well it seems all right there's nothing i can see uh obvious in there that would uh make me concerned we've got any uh shavings or any kind of metallic bits in there so hopefully we're good with that as well that's another good sign well guys finally the engine is ready to come out the car but what an absolute nightmare to get to this stage this engine is designed to come out every few years to do the the major the full timing belt service on it but it is a horrible design you really can't get half the stuff in fact there's a coolant hose at the front over here that i just can't physically get to so when we pull it out i'm gonna have to reach down and just pull that off anyway it's in a position to come out i'm really not looking forward to putting it back in we're going to get the car outside we're going to get the crane above it and to do that i'm going to probably get some help because i don't want to try and do this on my own let's call some friends [Music] [Music] okay so we've decided it's more or less a two-stage job because i couldn't get the manifolds off earlier we're lifting it slightly we're going to take these off remove them and then we're going to just lift the rest of it out but i need to clear these because as you can see the shafts uh are kind of lifting up with the manifolds at the moment it's causing us a few problems [Music] there we go [Music] [Music] go [Music] well guys it's out it's clear of the frame it's looking like it needs a good old cleanup for sure we'll take these covers off and have a look at the belts but uh now i've got loads of access to clear clean all of this up uh the frame doesn't look too bad at all we can get the tanks out now they need to be all done so uh yeah definitely definitely pleased we have gone to the effort of taking it out it's looking nice back there can't wait to get all that looking pristine again but look at this big old lump nice access all around it now [Music] cool [Music] so there we go the heart is successfully out of the boxer unfortunately we have no mishaps during that which is a big thumbs up i was very worried about that job the big question now is how far do we go with this obviously we've taken all of that time and effort to get it out so it makes sense to really clean this up but how far do we go into it we're going to need things like a clutch i think maybe the flywheel can be resurfaced it's such low mileage it would be silly not to even try to do that then we've got at least a service on it we're going to be changing the injectors as i said in a previous video would love to get this block all cleaned up and looking good i think we need a new um distributor cap because it looks to be quite worn away in there uh the arm i've got off at the moment but then this side really is probably where all of it got very weathered you can see the aircon unit here uh that needs a real good cleanup uh we'll be taking the covers off having a look at the belts we've got a full service kit here loads and loads of items so we've got things such as the cam belt all the auxiliary belts all these bellows really for the air boxes fuel filters oil filters uh the whole shipment here but that is just really the servicing the major question with this again we've got the manifolds down there they need to be looked at the big question is really inside how well has that fed up and that's really what we're going to find out in a future video guys i'm going to have to really start getting right into this but i would love to know your thoughts and your comments on it so make sure you put those below i will read all of them and uh hopefully we can get this one back to where it really belongs and really clean and running sweet well guys there you go we successfully got the engine out the ferrari that is what it takes to get one of these out of one of those it's not simple but we now have plenty of access around this to do the cleanup to do some servicing work and also i have a lovely big space in there that we can make all of that look pristine as well hope you enjoyed it guys don't forget you can check out what i get up to on a daily basis over on my instagram until the next one ciao for now [Music] you
