I was just listening to the audio and I thought Peyton Manning had started fixing shoes.

I’m wondering why these shoe restoration videos are suddenly being pushed on youtube.

I wish repair didn’t cost more than my usual shoes.

It really makes your wonder - what's the point? I know Ferragamo is a luxury brand, but those honestly wouldn't stand out to me against any shoes from a high street clothes shop. He's replacing all the working pieces that make the shoe work.

Am I the only one who got nervous watching him strip the sole off? I kept worrying he was going to hurt himself pushing the blade towards his hand like that under strain.

[Music] welcome back y'all today we have got another pair of shoes that are in very rough shape para Ferragamo loafers that the soles are you can see he's already gone through the outsole the insole and through the sock liner so his foot was pretty much just resting on the pavement the uppers very very faded if you you see right there all the way around the base of the apron it's it's just it's not even brown anymore it's almost like a creamy color and we're gonna try to put some love back in these things and get them going before we go any further if you do want to send us your shoes then all the information is down below and the the links and all that are down below and so let's get going all right so here's bottoms and we're gonna have to deal with this but start right here all right real stacked leather heels [Music] all right so now that we've got the sold off we've got to start dressing this insole now a little disclaimer I don't normally do this replace any of this this is I mean I'm doing this especially for this this one guy that we know and it but you should never get to this point ladies and gentlemen we see it quite often folks come in and they've worn all the way through I mean if you think about it if you wear these shoes out and it's kind of gross but you go into a restaurant you go into a bathroom yeah there's stuff on the floor sometimes and your saw is actually hitting the floor so yeah don't let this happen you see that it's starting to get soft right here in the ball of the foot stop right there and just go get your shoes done but let's I put all these markings on here because we are gonna have to remove this and recut part of it not all of it is actually going to have to be redone because this is actually one of one that the shank is actually built into fiber board so it's not a separate shame that I can just take out so we're going to reuse part of this actually only on the other side on the inside of it and then we're gonna replace this front half with some actual shoulder leather but I need these markings just to get get my it's already lasted you know so it's already molded but I just want to make sure every all the points line up there's something that well I'm removing this I do like they bring the nails when that once they actually last that they bring the nails all the way from the top of the waist all the way around so it's not just folding in it's actually yeah there's some glue holding this own but say I can just kind of slip this up underneath it's very very little glue it's using tax to get all the way around stuff some tiny little sex okay so we have taken out the insole the four part that actually goes in the ball of foot and went all the way through that's leather and we're going to replace it with more leather the back portion that we're actually going to reuse is a kind of a thermal plastic it's actually what sandwiches the shank inside and you kind of say it's split right here and the shank is actually sandwiched in between so on some that you can actually take the leather off the sooner you take the leather sole off there's the shank sitting right there this is not the case and you get a lot of this and the kind of those low profile italian and ass produced shoes they use a lot of this and the shank is you know it's in there this is hard they're so hard as a rock it's like you know hard plastic e stuff but we can reuse this but we are gonna have to replace this and then it just kind of slips right in between the two layers and you have your whole piece again so but not that bad alright let's make another one alright so we have cut out some new pieces out of shoulder leather here and I put the little marks on this one just transferring them out all over what I'm going to do is sand this top layer off and just to keep it from any chance of squeaking sometimes if you have just the smooth leather on there rubber can I mean the leather can rub all the edges and stuff and can sometimes squeak so we're just gonna get rid of about taking that top layer off all right so we have made iron s familiar we've made our new insoles we're gonna put some we're actually gonna put some 3/4 liners on here and then we'll put a little bit of pour on underneath to take place at the phone it had a little bit of kind of spongy foam but we're going to put pour on which is actually better so give it a little spring there and then let's put these back in the shoes we'll put just a little bit of glue back here but we're gonna put some more nails like the originals so this is Poron and it's like a memory foam you don't need a whole lot of this stuff to really be able to get some spring in it so I'm these are the new liners three-quarter liners and we're just going to bring them up about two-thirds of the way and will kind of melt a little a little smaller and then glue them to the insole so then when we're all done we'll put these last ones in and I'll be ready to go all right so we have put the new insoles back in and everything's lined up and we're just going to go back through and put these tacks okay I didn't put a whole lot of glue along here because I want the tacks to do their thing so we'll just have to go all the way around and we'll move on after that all right so the original had a little piece of light felt it's just to add a little bit more of an insulator between the soul and your foot since really all you've got is just this thin leather you're standing on these Italian style set so low to the ground and we're actually gonna replace it with a little piece of suede and it'll service the same purpose it doesn't really have cork so these don't really take a mold of your foot they just kind of curve with your foot but we'll put the solar on top of this if the well I mean if the sole the preview sole isn't good enough shape I like to go ahead and just trace it on here that gives me when I'm stamping making hill things like that just gives me an idea of where to line it up so we usually put about 2 cups of glue on these things and stick this on the other one you put them on the press [Music] [Music] all right so we've got the soles trim trimmed all on the edge and we're going to stitch it next but we're gonna do a little bit different trench this time and I got to know where my Hill breast is going to be so since these are real stacked leather we're going to reuse them and I'll put it rough I need it to be and push down it kind of makes a little mark right there and so I just got to know when we put the the channel it's got to go back by underneath the the heel so what we're gonna do so we're gonna use these this pair compass and we're gonna just go in Worth Lee where the channel is going to be and I got I'm going to go back behind where my hill breast is going to be and it just gives me a little trace line to make sure it's away from the edge the same very good all right so what we're going to do here is we're not gonna actually trench this the width off you know a normal like an allen edmonds has a deeper trench and you can is very visible on the bottom and it's not a closed channel traditional closed channel that's actually cut from the side fold back what we're gonna actually do is put a score of the leather and then try to kind of pull it apart and groove inside of that and then we'll stitch and then the leather can kind of fold back over you don't even have to glue it or anything back it just kind of fold it back over you'll be able to see it on the bottom but it's just a little more narrow than you know a traditional French trench and I usually go over this twice the first time just to try to follow my line and practice my old tracing the skills and then I'll go a little bit deeper my elementary school art teacher would be proud and this is not NASA science sir huh me if I get off the line a little bit it's not that big a deal [Music] all right so here's where we are right now we have just stuck our top lip stone and we're gonna sand these down finish the edges and then we're gonna finish the bottom of the sole now something we did a little bit different on this sole is we actually glass the surface and that just means removing that that crust portion on the top of the sole leather and one reason for doing this not everybody does it and we don't always do it but you'll see a lot of you know handmade shoes getting done this way is it takes off all the imperfections on the leather the hash marks own it and then you can actually remove those by just glancing those off and you use a piece of glass and you just take the flesh off and then you use high grit sandpaper you just go in one direction until it just becomes smooth it's like a very very almost like a nubuck very fine new look but you can then ink it and wax it and burnish it we're going to do that you're gonna see me do it but that's the reason why we did it on this one and that's where we are so let's keep going so since we glass this off and we put a little bit of dye on here we're gonna go a little bit darker but when you take that flesh off and you put down it automatically goes darker than what the dye normally does so we want the lighter color and then to give it to the color we're gonna use just black shoe polish and put uh so this is a hill I I mean a cell line and Hill line and just put over here to heat it up and because we've put polish on this if you go just leave it just polish on here then you walk on carpet and whatnot you can get down there so you actually have to like how to melt it in and you don't want it to hotter you get major streaks alright yeah so here's the uppers again pretty rough shape but just a little side note if your shoes look like this that does not require that they actually be completely stripped and redyed and all that a lot of that is just fading that can actually be back in with a pigmented cream so that's how we're gonna do on this today and it'll get them looking a lot better just also a little reminder but we always get comments in the bottom of emails asking like you know we're gonna have my shoes are done you can actually just go to our website and it's got all that information you can kind of Alucard make what you want and it'll kind of walk you through that but we're just gonna paint these edges and then put some cream of them getting finished up put some new inserts back in and we'll keep going as you can see they're already starting to get back to their original color and that's no pigment at all that's strike condition or so condition your shoes gasps all right now let's put some pigmented cream on here all right you also we have wrapped up this pair of Ferragamo as you can see how bad they were how about shape they were in he blew holes all the way through the soles all the way through the footbed which we replaced the footbed don't ask me to do that to your shoes though we did especially for this guy and it's just yeah I can see that emails now but we put new liners in there with some poor on padding underneath um put some Marten to brooder sole leather on there see put some some Vibram rubber Hills on there and y'all really it was just cream conditioner and cream polish that really brought those uppers back to life so make sure you're shining your shoes at least conditioning your shoes if they get too looking like that yeah people are judging you so till next time hit the subscribe button hit the bell and we've got a lot of videos if you do want to have your shoes done though we'll put a link down in the bottom and everything is on our website until next time have a good [Music]
