Farm tractor revival! 1953 International Harvester Farmall Super A goes back to work on the farm.

[Music] hello everyone and welcome to the not for hire youtube channel today we're going on a little adventure uh my girlfriend victoria scored herself uh something pretty neat and i think you guys are gonna like it so uh come on let's go for a ride okay we're here sketchy building in the middle of the woods they don't get moited oh boy let's open it up let's see what you found oh is it locked i think it's just hard to get can you help me i'll meet my taco bell chalupas this one's open all right i don't know which one it is though no i don't think that one's it yeah no no this one this one has a sickle bar all right you guys ready oh okay it's this one this one i don't uh i don't know what model it is not the bicycle the tractor the tractor yes she scored this tractor there's another one here that we can also get that we might get also but this one for sure i don't know anything about it but we're gonna winch it out of here put it on the truck and uh take it home and see what happens i know it's been sitting a very very long time so it's it's in the ground pretty good so or the tires are flat and it's it's kind of melting into the ground your jumper counter there yeah that's probably dead though all right let's get the the tools oh yeah you want to use fear come over here it's in neutral i put it in neutral pay attention hello don't hit me in the ass all right let's get the ramps off [Music] hook it on the front axle nope the go from the bottom from the bottom yep just like that yep [Music] perfect okay [Music] somebody's got to steer it oh you better get back it's fine you do realize when you put this on your tv show people look at it and send you money i get fifty percent i want fifty percent of the tractor [Music] what if we get stuck [Music] [Music] every time i hear that victoria that way a little bit [Music] uh nope that's perfect we're gonna chain it right than there what does that reindeer huh what is that reindeer is that a reindeer no that's mass what is that [Music] uh all right so next day we got home and uh kind of almost in the dark so i didn't want to uh i want to try to start the tracker in the dark and i wanted to get it on video so i did some research overnight and this is what i came up with um and the guy told me what it is so this is a round i think it's a 1950 you didn't know the exact year so i think it's around 1953. international harvester super a uh has the hydraulics which i guess is like an option or something i was looking at the battery trying to figure out what kind it was it is a six volt positive ground battery so that's a negative terminal and it goes to [Music] the starter on the hot side so yeah it looks like it has a remanufactured starter or something the engine looks like it's all intact it ran and drove in that shed five years ago so shouldn't be too much of a pain to get us started the body on it all the sheet metal and everything looks really really straight really clean like somebody already stripped it all and primered it with that rusty metal primer the brown primer and uh was like ready to paint it but then stop they look they put new tires on it i mean they're they got some cracks and stuff now but not too bad i guess i just got to put some more air in it but yeah it uh seems like a really straight uh really straight nice tractor let's even get these like spots for the jacks under there it's pretty neat um it's i know it's not a live pto when you push the clutch in the machine it stops the pto so that's like i don't know if that's really an issue but i want to use this for my little manure spreader so um i guess it really doesn't matter i don't know we'll try it what i need is i need i have my john deere i want to use the john deere to load the manure spreader and then have something to pull the manure spreader with so that's what i'm thinking this is this is what uh it could be good for the only problem is is that the pto shaft is offset but i guess i can just hook the spreader here and it'll be all right the shaft size looks the same so we'll have to look at that this is like an old-school lift lift system which is pretty neat not sure what all these do but we'll figure it out when i get it throwing it when i get it running yeah six volt that's like a weird weird setup right there carburetor looks like it's been replaced or something it's got the fuel bowl wasn't filled and then i came out here today and it looks like it's actually filled so maybe the gas came down i figured it was just plugged up but maybe shaking around driving on the way home it filled up so this thing might just fire right up um i know i gotta find the dipstick somewhere so generator looks good belt looks good other belt looks good buy clean fuel keep it clean oh this is a fuel cap interesting i think that's a radiator right well there's some something in it something and it's not uh it's not frozen so it's a good start it's still kind of cold here at night in connecticut i use the taco bell cup to cover up the stack so i got some use out of it uh front tires are pretty pretty cracked up but you can replace them i guess i mean they hold air i'm not touching anything unless they leak but they hold there so no sense of messing with them it'd be nice to paint this machine this would be an easy one to paint all i gotta do is sand it down and paint it that'd be uh really nice no dipstick okay oil nice get out of the sun here so you can see something pedals are not real bad not real worn out i would say uh wear-wise it's pretty solid you know it's not uh not worn out at all let's see grease fittings and the pedals it's like some sheet metal here that's rotted or something i don't know what that is got like this little stirrup step which is pretty neat i don't know if somebody added that or that there's a factory i mean kind of weird oil pan plug's a little bent maybe it's supposed to be like that just like the oil is like like molasses probably should sure drain it anyways nice front end i guess you can extend it out i got a massey harris that's kind of messy harris pony it's kind of like the same thing it's a good shape like really good shape i would like i said sand it paint it this thing would be a really nice tractor um long story short she just she got this from a family member for nothing and uh the deal is she can't ever sell it so it's gonna be with her forever and or for us maybe forever so uh i think we're gonna fix it up real nice and i don't know if she can use it it's bigger than my tractor she's got the biggest tractor on the property now unless you count four key then fork is for sure the biggest one but all right enough chit chat and let's get this thing started up ah yes the i forgot about these though this is for the oil this is how you check the oil there's no dipstick or anything i guess they didn't have those back then or something um this is the low this is the high it can't be lower than this can't be higher than this so let's see if there's even anything in it at the low i don't know how far are you gonna twist them all right well there's nothing at the low oh damn i can't too weak to turn that one i gotta get a wrench or some pliers or something [Music] man well i mean if there's nothing on the low there's probably nothing on the high i thought maybe it'd be plugged but it's probably just low because i could see it yeah it should definitely be coming out but uh i saw a few spots on the deck so i think this is uh a self-oil or a self-preserver of uh leaky fluids so uh i'm not going to worry about it uh the fluid level i'm just going to drain it out and see what's in it plus it's been sitting condensation builds up water all that crap so let's just get it out now yummy well there's a lot of oil in it so that's a good start it's pretty nasty i'm glad i took it out beforehand okay let's uh i'm surprised i mean that's quite a bit of oil i'm surprised it didn't come out the the low the low side so i might have to run a little wire in there maybe and see if it's clear or not i still have to get this high side open too they think the there's like a rod or like the threads go into the so there's like a no way i don't know he can't can't get um can't get wire in there but he can't it seems like nothing else can get in there either so damn all right well i'll leave them both open and then we'll know hopefully one of them will leak when i'm putting oil in it i'd say it takes a little over a gallon maybe a gallon i don't know put this back in oh maybe i should get up in there and feel feeling around a bit feel the sub pump bottom of the pan no big chunkies a little bit of sludge but not much it's real loose so okay that's enough they're gonna say why didn't you wear a glove but just doesn't feel the same with a glove on all right i'm gonna pop this oil filter off now so i can go get a new one hopefully someone around here has one oh that's easy fram 135 c135 looks good all right believe it or not tractor supply had the filter in stock it was uh 15 bucks but at least they had it it's a little a little different looking but it's supposed to be the same one so i guess we'll have to see and i'm uh i'm glad i didn't try using this one because this paper okay the paper's all falling off glad i didn't try to run on it first that would be all in the all in the oil so let's put a new paper one and instead i don't know why they make out of paper it seems kind of crazy but all right the kit also comes with a new o-ring so let's get this old one out of there okay the gasket or the here's the old gasket it's the same as the new ones but new one came with two so i don't know supposed to have two they're exact same size so let's throw it in there let's make sure yeah the exact same size but i guess we'll put this one on the shelf looks like it all right filters in and put the canister cover back on and uh where is it oh here it is let's clean that off all right that's done let's fill it up a little all right i'm just going to throw 10w30 in this because i'm probably going to change it again um the end of the year i think uh 10 30 or straight 30 i think it supposed to have straight 30 but this is what i got on the shelf so it's better than certainly better than what was in it so you guys have to let me know what it takes but i looked it up and i said five quarts so i don't know if that's five quarts with the filter but i think this filter drains back into the pan when you shut it off so i think five quarts in the pan and then it when you shut it off or you know when it runs it sucks it up so yeah we'll go with five courts first i'm gonna open up oh those bleeders should be open or the whatever those are whatever you wanna call it the dipstick holes there they're uh open i think that's open so i have to wait for some oil to come out okay that one's dripping so let's add a little more and see what happens all right so let's shut that one off because we know for sure it's high enough now that one's just dripping so i'm going to assume that that's good and it's not like running out so it's not over full like way too over full perfect okay next thing i'm going to do is take this hood off i want to take the plugs out i want to take the plugs out and uh just spray a little oil in the cylinders and some wd-40 or something whatever i got laying around and then i never did try to turn it over i'm just assuming it will but i'll wait till i put some oil in there and then we'll turn it over by hand and then we'll see if it has spark2 over there oh uh i found these little latches and then the whole hood will pop right up take off the caps you gotta take off the breather cap take that off muffler has to come off that's it i gotta unhook the other side so to be in good shape manifold looks good all right i'm gonna all right this thing has a really big spark plugs there's seven eighths never had never seen one yet but i've never seen one that's that big before coming right out too good i guess good looks good i guess looking at it through the phone though so i gotta really inspect it yeah everything looks nice i should help first i forgot i gotta see if it turns over by hand belt slipped belt's flipping it's not turning i think it's in gear uh-oh why do i wait till last minute to check these things it can't be too stuck he said it ran there's no reason he would lie now what hey if i hit it with a starter it might work i gotta get a battery okay i found a six volt battery it was out of my bulldozer um i'm gonna take this one out clean those up how the hell does this thing come out i'm thinking take the tank off maybe take this pin out take this off maybe it'll um i really don't know how i'm gonna do that without taking this off so i'll take this off and then maybe that doesn't really come off maybe it'll give it enough room oh i bet you i can no i can't maybe i gotta disconnect it there too oh and then pull it all oh that sucks pull it all the way through damn wow that's that sucks all right i'm gonna do that i guess should be able to get it out now success got the old one out in the new one and spilt a little on the out of it but i'll wash that off how does this go like that what oh my god i put the battery in backwards now i gotta flip it around i gotta take it all back apart again damn it okay get the battery in the right way around and uh let's see if there's any action at all here neutral okay oh turned over all right good whew at least it turns over i was getting nervous there okay see anything coming in no pressure at least oh that was scared the that level was it it's not uh not building pressure i mean there's a lot of oil on nothing on the top the top of the valve springs i don't see any how can you tell if this thing's got a little pressure or not take this gauge off maybe hmm all right i cracked the oil filter housing here and i rolled it over and it started leaking out oil so i think i got oil pressure i think that gauge doesn't work and uh it just takes a while for it to get up there especially because i just changed it too so i think we're good i think i'm gonna put the spark plugs in or see if i got spark and then go from there and i think we'll try to get it fired up oh that looks nice and clean [Music] so those contacts look a little dirty i'll give those a little cleaning up with some sandpaper supposed to use emery cloth but i don't have any all right it didn't have spark after i clean up the points so i traced the wiring back and it went back to this push-pull switch thing on the dash which i guess wasn't working so i cut the wires and then i just jumped it straight to the battery and now it has spark so let's um i'm going to put this all back together except for the valve covers i want to make sure it has oil get soil pressure and uh whoa oh then we'll give some attention to the carburetor so let's get this done and then we'll go to that all right it's all back together now let's move on to the carpet now uh as far as the carburetor goes i'm just gonna drain it out and then i'm going to clean the bowl and uh see where we're at all right there is an inline filter here it actually looks empty and clean this on the other hand this is dirty hmm it's like sand in there it's like glitter nice looks like somebody put like a handful of sand in there it's probably from rust and whatever else in there dirty gas cans all right let's throw this uh well actually let's open that up and see what drains out of there first okay turn the gas on nothing comes out pretty sure there's gas in it so i guess i can blow through it or something there we go oh shit's gonna start coming out there we go and it's coming out there perfect all right i think we're finally ready for our first crank let's see i gotta hook the battery back up because i'm charging it and i think we're good to go put some fresh gas in it you can see it's still kind of yellow but it's clearing up there's nothing in it so that's good no water no chunks in the bottom so let's say we're good there i just have my kill switch here that's how i shut it out turn it on and off and then we'll uh hopefully this will run i guess i can stick the muffler back on let's move all this stuff all right here we go attempt one oh i'd say that's a good start the choke off [Laughter] [Laughter] [Music] an oily that o-ring isn't sitting right oh it's getting oil up there we know that all right i gotta mess with that all right attempt two [Music] [Music] damn still leaking oil what the hell all right attempt three see if it stop leaking [Music] the battery's dead at least it's not leaking oil right now but i can see okay attempt for on [Music] okay it runs great why didn't stay running as a question [Music] [Music] it's like running out of gas or something bye oh crap my phone's dying all right well it's running good it sounds like it's running good just sounds like it's running out of gas so i'm gonna assume that the float is either stuck or maybe not stuck or it's just gummed up uh give me a minute i'm gonna figure this out [Music] all right it's got oil so that's good nothing leaking i got the choke on a little bit so that's why i throw them a little rough i just wanted to clean all that crap out i didn't do anything the only thing i did was leave the choke i worked the trope a little better and it's still running so [Music] i'm gonna uh shut it off put the valve cover back on probably put the hood back on i'm not gonna drive it until i check the rear end transmission all that stuff so get the hood back on stacked back on i'm going to start it up and then just let it run for a little while all right i put a little bit of antifreeze in it it took less than half a cup or less than a cup i should say so it wasn't much in there i mean it didn't take much at all [Music] [Music] [Music] i guess the gauge does work [Music] oh yeah she's a sweetheart beautiful all right it's really dark in there but i can see oil um so i'm not everything looks nice and shiny in there too it uh looks good i mean i don't know what how much it's supposed to be in there i know it's 80w 90. so what i'm going to do is like i did with jolly green just pull the plug on the bottom tighten that up i'm going to pull the plug on the bottom here come on focus in now pull this plug and see if there's any water in it it was stored in store indoors so it shouldn't be but let's just make sure before we move it um of course it's merc it's all murky but it's not uh okay see how much comes out all right i'm going to dump some diesel down the transmission to see if they can flush some of that stuff out so i don't want to dump too much in it five dollars a gallon five something a gallon i don't know what it is i'm trying to give it's five something all right i got this little uh the pto pulley drain plug out so we're gonna drain that too oh a little bit of water i saw nothing came out oh i also don't have a plug out on top so see if i can get that out of there i see oil in there so so all right i'm gonna dump in uh i dumped it into uh out of the five gallon pail into this so i can measure it but it says the internet says with the pulley on the back five quarts so let's put five i'm gonna put four in right now then i'll put in one all right now i'm gonna add some to the the pto in the back to the pulley i filled it up so the gears are you know just the tops of the gears are sticking out so i figure that's that's enough oil for that that wasn't really clear how much you put in this on the internet but i think it's good definitely a lot better than it was it's not full of water all right i'm just gonna uh tighten up the fill plugs and we'll drive this little girl off the trailer oh let me get air compressor i thought one of these as well not really not that bad all right yeah [Applause] [Applause] [Music] all right there it is first few feet nice my girlfriend's gonna be pretty excited when she could tell him i didn't tell her i was working took all day but she runs and drives hope you know what i just realized i forgot to grease it so [Applause] i feel like that's not supposed to do that but it's all right ah nice i actually see stuff in front of you [Music] no no don't be jamming stuff in gear that's the break that's the clutch no it's not the gas that's the clutch use that foot [Music] so slow [Music] going for a ride how do you get it to go off uh push the clutch in look down where the gear is pull straight back would be second let off easy let off no you're fine it's not like a truck it'll go slow if you just go oh you don't have it in push it up push it in push the clutch in i'll just stay okay now you can pull it back pull it back to second let off the clutch a little easy easy okay push it in push it in again there now it's easy easy excuse easy i'm not worried about just falling i just stepped i think must go pretty quick i mean it's second gear it's got four speeds forward four speed forward and uh one reverse runs good runs really good yeah drive over there we'll see if it uh hooks up to it i changed all the fluids and the transmission and the pto and everything so ready to rock and roll [Applause] oh i got sample over my [Music] have to go hard it's really easy i did okay pull it back reverse excellent easy just get close go real slow easy easy there you go now you're getting the hang of it okay that's good okay yeah put it in neutral so you don't run me over pull it forward push it forward okay there you go wiggle it side to side there you know when there's a lot of playing that it's in neutral but don't trust it you know make sure you let up oh no make sure you let off the clutch slowly you don't want to accidentally be in a gear oh i think it is the right one it's not right no i said i think it is no no you're good don't do anything it's her first day driving a tractor really so besides john deere never drove anything manual before [Music] it's actually not even it barely even sticks out with all the way to the side so it's like perfect size the shaft fit everything fit yeah like go past this tree and go into the lot that way i just wanted to see if it was gonna hit no not even close no i gotta try it the other way is the problem then you gotta turn it on to see if it's gonna work yeah okay hit the clutch to stop this is the pto okay well don't get your hand here go ahead let him pull it off he'll turn off it should if it if it's back all the way okay stop i didn't have it back every time you let off the clutch it's going to turn on now so be careful all right i just got one bucket load of manure in here and uh wait for victoria to get back here and then uh we're gonna spread this manure while we're waiting check this out this is my 53 massey harris pony that's been on the property three generations now uh no yeah three generations yeah so it's done everything it has a cord wood saw has the sickle and the belly or i don't know what you call that a center sickle i don't know but it's in the center zone on the back got the continental four cylinder flat head this uh old tractor's done a lot of work my grandfather restored it when i was 14 and he gave it to me for my birthday so lots of mental central value sentimental value so this is where uh this is where it stays out of the weather and it gets used every year every single year we use this my grandfather puts all the wood in the garage with this machine if you uh watch my other videos you'll see it popping up in the background every now and then all right okay off she goes with her first load of manure this no yeah you're gonna keep it at first pull that back then we'll move it up if it works okay let off the clutch a little see if it's engaged okay [Music] stop stop oh i thought it got jammed shaft fell off i didn't lock it in all the way it's my fault now it's all the way out give it some throttle the one closest to the steering wheel that one yeah slowly perfect first gear oh yeah pull it back perfect [Music] very good look at that already professional [Applause] a little more perfect that's it you did it perfect you backed it right up you got to pull the wire out remember i got a hook up to switch yeah i'll hook it up so you can just jump on all right well that worked perfect what do you think what did you say gotta fill it up all the way heaping and then turn it on yeah fourth gear you can kick it all out yeah okay so fast yeah it's it goes pretty quick we just didn't have enough in and i don't think i'd say that's a success from uh in a barn not used for years to uh spreading
