hello everyone and welcome to the Not For Hire YouTube channel today I'm here with my 1970 is 8ish I'm not sure what year exactly Ford backo uh and today we're going to see if I got a bad deal or not I don't know anything about it it doesn't run um but I'm going to check it over and see what I can do it is diesel which is pretty neat it's got a flat tire on the front I have to go on the other side see the back up it's got 2600 hours on it it looks like big bucket on it and there's uh two more buckets on the property that come with it all right I checked the oil the other day and I noticed it's pretty high up on the stick so you can see the full line is way down there so it's way up I'm going to uh pull the plug and see what's on the bottom of this oil and there's a can of ether that's not good I don't know if this thing's going to Run's see what's in there hopefully just oil maybe there's diesel fuel or something in it oh no not good okay I let it drain before the until the water came out and I'm going to stop because I want to see if it'll turn over but I noticed manifolds cracked on the bottom so maybe there's half a chance that it's not completely screwed if it uh rotted out before it ruined it looks like it ran like that I'll put a battery in okay I see the intakes disconnected here and I didn't see anything down in there so should be good um Che D for why not oh it's in there that's good so half a chance it's looking better and better um if this starts up I'm just going to shut it right down and then go get oil in a filter I just don't want to put any money into this thing like at all so here we go okay I got a battery and let's see light oh it turns over oh and it smoked oh oh that's so good to hear what do I do uh I got to make sure this thing's neutral somehow it's uh oh I'm excited okay I think it'll run I need to check the throttle inages and everything all right this is the gas pedal got movement there and this I believe is a shut off so should be good there too okay EO will a start attempt one hopefully it doesn't run away or anything scary guess that's why the ether's around [Music] oh all right it runs and it does try to move so but I got no Hydraulics got to find a hydraulic tank oh looky there a leak I think this Frame is a Hydra IC tank but I'm not sure where is it coming from well maybe just a bad hose I see somebody put a new line on here and it appears to be leaking it's not leaking at that end and they they just did work here I think this fitting is just loose going get a couple wrenches do and see okay I got that metal line off the focus here you can see right there in that little wet spot there's a hole and you can see it's kind of been chafing away at this for quite a while so what I'm gonna do is cut a piece of this pipe cut a slit in it slide it over this pipe and then weld it on the top is the plan I don't know if it's going to go well but we'll see good as new that should hold some hydraulic oil at least okay line is all back in even threw some pain not what's this oh there's a dip stick let me clean that off completely empty so need to find some hydraulic oil new oil new filter Let's uh start it up it works you of course this must be the second set of hoses cuz I found this one hanging in a barn and it just happens to be the right one so they must have saved it from the last time [Music] all right it's been about a month I uh got the machine home no problem put it on the yellow trailer I'm going to have to get a bigger trailer though cuz this thing's a little too big for it um that's going to be in the next video though I got a bigger trailer that's uh exciting all right so uh I've been picking away at some small little problems the machines had I changed uh one of the hoses this bottom hose was bad and it was not fun to get to uh I don't even know if you can see it all those hoses which they're not bad to get to the hoses but the hoses are so close together you really can't take them apart easily so that was fun I got to get some special uh crows feet sockets or something I messed with these controls I changed the bushings and the the the arm or the levers here but you could see they're still pretty wore out um they're not nearly as bad as it was though I also cut this Frame out um and I flipped these handles around cuz these Outrigger handles were on the inside and I didn't really like how that was so I changed it um I know they're probably like that so you don't catch them on anything but uh I didn't like how they were on the inside of the control s uh greased everything up real good I actually took this whole panel off it was freezing out and I was covered in hydraulic oil and grease so I didn't take any videos I took all this out I took all the all the pins out of those and O greased them up oil them up and uh like I said when I pull that apart I changed the bushings and then there's a bar that goes through the bottom here it was completely rotted out so I changed that to another pivot point but like I said it was freezing cold so I didn't take a video overall I haven't seen anything scary with it uh the front tire still goes flat but got to either put a tube in it or get some new tires for the front here I got a new exhaust manifold and Gasket and I dug up some exhaust bits and I'm going to replace the manifold which seems pretty straightforward uh I gave it a power wash so I can get to it easy it's nice and clean uh so I'm going to build up some exhaust system here and change that manifold and then uh we'll go from there I [Music] guess that was easy that was the easiest exhaust manifold ever that ever came off for me ever I think this has been changed there there's a lot of antise on that so I think somebody changed it or had these bolts out at least see this one's a little bit a little bit beefier definitely heavier h it's this yeah it looks the same I'll get the gasket yep right one oh that's a gasket still on there oops take that off there we go this one's actually a metal gasket it's probably better but was all messed up all right here we go actually this is a metal gasket just a little sandwich it's got a gasket the metal gasket and then another paper gasket on the back or whatever all right I got it cleaned off and I'm going to stick the new manifold on now all right new manifolds in all in all done I did a little Rustoleum restoration on the muffler and uh I just actually used a an adapter see if I can lift it up hold on just uh an exhaust reducer and it slides right over the manifold and right into the muffler so it's all I had to do that was uh definitely the easiest manifold I've ever changed that's for sure so happy that's over with now I'm going to we'll start it up and see how it sounds all right as far as I know there's no glow plugs on this thing there might be an intake heater or something but there's a a red light here and let me turn the key on I think that's a power light like a low charge light but it uh it does start without ether now which is nice well we'll see I guess it was in the freezing temperatures last night so hopefully it'll fire [Music] up come on baby [Music] come on there it is got to do something about that flat tire okay since this thing has a tube in it and it leaks pretty slow it'll it'll take a day or two for it to go completely flat I'm going to uh just put some slime in it and hope that that cures it if not I'll have to pop the tube off put a or pop the tire off put a tube in it and do it the hard way but this was uh only 20 bucks it was on sale or $24 or whatever so I figured it's same price as a tu but a lot less work and maybe it'll seal up the tire if it gets any future leaks or SE seal up the tube of gets any future leaks or holes in it so uh I'm going to see what happens I guess got good bearings on the front of this thing I'm trying to get the slime all the way around the tube all right that slime worked it's been a few weeks and it hasn't gone flat yet here's a something else I noticed I want to go tighten these bolts or I thought they were loose but I took the bolt out and there's a block in between the washer and the the frame here so it can't go all the way doesn't snug up to this plate I'm assuming it's like that for a reason so I'm not going to mess with it I'm just going to tighten it back up um I'm assuming it's so the tractor can Flex or the frame can flex and it doesn't uh break the casting or maybe the temperatures change in temperatures they uh expand and contract differently or something I'm not sure maybe uh one of you guys know you can tell me but right now I'm going to tighten this back up CU I finally got a job for this thing so I'm going to go well it's a real small job but I'm going to bring this down to my other property and uh we're going to use it try it out [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Music] [Music] I all right got it all chained down I'm going to bring it down to uh my other property and go play with it all right here we go hey driv for sh [Music] [Music] for [Music] come took me a few minutes to figure out how to run a four lever backo again it's been quite a few years before I uh since I ran one so bear with me a few seconds here s well there we go all those uh old hydraulic poses held up that's the first stump this Ford's ever dug for me thinks pretty good all right let's go get rid of this stump now I [Music] all right well I got one more little stump I'm waiting for the old man to show up before I dig it out cuz he wanted to see it work but this one's not too bad oh you got this one all good it's over there that was a big one right there where is it oh my Christ [Applause] [Music] all all right it's the end of the day and uh machine work great the whole day I dug out a few more stumps and pile them up over there see him uh overall I'm I actually really like the machine and uh I don't think I'm going to sell it I was undecided whether what I wanted to do with it and I think uh it's going to be a good addition to the my uh my fleet of junks it's Rusty it's old fits right in so yeah overall I'm really happy with it there is a few things that are kind of messed up on it the power steering is uh it actually started to get better as I was using it but it seems like it's really stiff um oh I mean it is really stiff it doesn't steer like you can't sh it with one hand at all so um when it's moving around yeah you can move it with one hand but sitting still forget it so got to look into that um there's a few little little leaks it's coming from this hose yeah this hose line I think this is the one I changed so the one they had hanging in the barn was no good either so I have to get a new hose there um it was leaking a little bit of fuel but I don't see it leaking anymore so I don't know guess that fixed itself um I think one of the stabilizers well I know one of the stabilizer lines is leaking too I noticed right here so got to change that sleeking down down into the thing so definitely have to change that but here like I was saying can't believe these hoses are still working but I guess we won't say anything just keep our fingers crossed but hey at some point you got to change them then I probably won't have to change them again for a very long time so if they do go it's whatever yeah I think it's worth putting the money into here's the two extra buckets that I got with it this is a monster bucket this is a nice 1T uh ditch digging bucket I actually like to modify this to fit my excavator that'd be nice but oh here's a here's something for you guys little quiz what is uh what is this and what do it go to here's some numbers two five 25634 now I know what it is and I know what it goes to and I have the rest and I have the thing that it goes to too that's going to be in another video uh yeah let's see uh down in the comments who can figure out what this is and uh whoever's right is right first that's it yeah look at this bucket it's huge I mean it's monster I don't think I'll be putting that on this is garbage that I pick up from the side of the road all along the road here alcohol bottles so annoying just tons of them all right so now it's down to the moment you've been waiting for and I know you guys are going to ask me what did you pay for this thing well let's uh go back and start from the beginning with this we didn't I didn't know anything about it I bought it um the people that owned it they were selling the house and the property and they had two weeks to get everything out of there so it was a gamble uh I don't know how I would have got it out of there if I didn't get it running it really would have been a pain in the ass and I knew the manifold was cracked I knew there was water in the oil especially being in the winter time too it was in the 20s during the day so I in a degrees Fahrenheit everything was frozen and everything was a pain in the ass to work on um I hate being cold you guys know if you follow this channel for a long time I don't like cold weather so for me to even go out in it it was even that was a feet keeping all those things in mind I was limited on time I didn't know anything about it and uh it was basically scrap at that time I'd say in scrap without the tires and um you cut it up I think scrap has to be 3T by 5T or something like that for them to take it as number one HMS so if you took the tires off cut it up I think there's probably about $900 ,000 here in scrap maybe eight8 8900 a th000 I would say so of course that would be a giant pain in the ass and I bought the machine to get it running so that would totally not be my worth my time at all um so in the end the offer I made I thought was a fair offer and uh they gladly accepted it and they were more than happy plus I bought it with a bunch of other things but you're going to have to wait for those those videos um so yeah all said and done I offered $600 for this machine I think that was a Fair Deal you know with all the problems uh you could visually see not knowing anything about it oh and they said the machine was sitting for 15 years you know 10 to 15 years cuz they have no idea how long it was there it was sitting there cuz they had a new machine that they were using and this one was just sitting in the weed so um yeah I think 600 bucks was a good deal in the end now that I know everything I know about it and uh we know it works good uh it was obviously a great deal all right guys that's going to wrap it up for this video I hope you enjoyed it I'm glad to be back making videos I'm glad the warm weather's here uh it was 65° Fahrenheit today and I couldn't be happier all right guys till the next time thanks for watching
