let's see we haven't even seen this in thing it didn't happen it's not going real funny all right here we go oh it broke the board i don't want to twist any stuff off i guess that's the oil filter i might take the head off the old flathead hadn't worked on a flathead in a while except for some briggs and stratton stuff we ended up going back over to the guy's place and seeing if he had the distributor and he does not so i'm gonna have to get a distributor this is the cool i don't know if it works for 12 volt or only six volt but he seems to think that it's been converted to 12 volt because this looks like a gm alternator so i'm going to get a distributor for it and while we're waiting on that i'm going to go ahead and blow all the stuff off here pull the plugs and put some oil down the cylinder [Music] i ran the serial numbers on this thing and it appears to be a 1946 model two in ford now they originally started out as a 9 in and then they should this was gray from the factory and you can see some gray in here so this is gray from the factory and they they change from a non-end to a two-end name just so they could charge more for the tractor because at the time there was a limit you could not uh up your prices during the war so to up the prices they just changed the name to two in so the serial number still says nine in even though it's a two-year 23 horsepower flathead uh apparently it's like half of the v8 flathead apparently the wheels are switchable to change how wide the tractor is and you can also remove the bolts here and slide the the front end out this is all the way in all the way in so you can make this tractor a lot wider i guess for stability or to go in between your rows and their fields better there you go see how something bad it's got the bigger size spark plug socket 13 16. well probably as to be expected by an old engine plugs look hideous but uh all gooped up with black stuff see it's nice having a flathead work straight in i'm just gonna pour some transmission fluid down in the cylinders while we're waiting on this distributor to come in and uh that'll oil up our valve seats on this motor because it's a flathead so the valves are pointing up like this so air has to come in the motor go you know straight up into the cylinder and then straight back out the exhaust so it's really not made for power and i think motors like this i don't know the exact spec but these old motors had like five to one six to one compression they have hardly any compression this makes it easy to get fluid down in there it's got its own little built-in funnel good thing i blew it off to keep the trash out huh maybe got a little extra in that last one that front spark plug was completely loose so you can actually see the valves in there might as well go ahead and check the oil make sure this motor ain't full of water like the old ford truck was it's definitely uh a little low on all this looks black probably ain't been changing 30 years i bet i'm going to try to hook the battery up with this i haven't obviously haven't done this yet this goes to the block so ground this goes to the this starter button so this should be positive even though online it says this this thing has a positive ground but since it has the 12-volt alternator on it i'm gonna try to hook it up this way hopefully we don't burn my shot down all right let's see if we let any smoke out here oh backing up are you i feel like i need to get out of the way nothing yet so that seems loose as if it's been on a positive terminal before let's see if it uh does anything heard it hear that story's not engaging i don't think looks like it's spinning but not kicking out am i doing something wrong i don't know well hammer that ought to do it nope let's put the battery back up positive ground like it says from the factory and see what that does this is kind of scary that seems too loose okay no smoke yet so this is hooking up the positive to the ground and i don't seem to be doing much or nothing maybe it's a bad connection though because these are tear that one's pretty tight just enough to hold this on there [Applause] that doesn't seem to matter i hope it's neutral or like a negative ground on a positive ground just for simplicity in my head it looks like it's been rewired like this is looks like an inline resistor for the coil that's been cut who knows look look at this mess what the heck it looks like one of my family members been working on this thing or my wife's family maybe we gotta hook back up positive whatever negative ground oh oh she was right the wife said to try it that way okay so i got some junk in the way here that's a fuel line all right let me try this again get from the other side okay we got absolutely zero compression on the back cylinder and i can see why that valve is hung open the i guess the exhaust valve is hung open so maybe that thing will work its way loose so we've got i don't know because the the valves and the lifters are in the block i think i think these would be mechanical back then so i don't know if something broke in the motor or if we just got something stuck from rust after much uh arguing and tweeting and everything else i finally received my distributor my chinese distributor for my ford tractor so i'm gonna get this sound here and i'm gonna have to get this thing probably at top dead center number one and figure out the firing order online and everything because it's all been taken apart years ago there's a coil though so in order for this thing to be in time i figured out the firing order this it's hard for me to even get in there but this is uh what the distributor engages on and for it to be pointing at number one cylinder it needs to be pointed up this direction right here so i've turned the motor over by hand close to where it's supposed to be to where we can get this distributor so you want to be top dead center compression stroke on your number one cylinder point the indicator the rotor button at number one cylinder on your distributor cap and then you should be pretty close your your timing may be off that's number one so we're gonna be pointing at that this corner so i got some bolts out of my bin these are 5 16 bolts so the head-on is a half-inch uh we should have the timing close uh it may not be a 100 dead-on but i really don't see an adjustment to the timing on this somebody might can tell me how to adjust the timing but i don't personally know so i guess this coil goes on here like this it's only got one wire hookup i'm used to a coil having two but it just makes its own connection right here uh this goes straight down onto the points right there i guess but uh this thing says taiwan on it so it's been replaced at some point i'm gonna slip this back on i don't know who did this i don't know if this is the way they are from the factory but it's barely on there the belt is just barely on and that's not even bolted down all right we got our new plugs in there we obviously still have a cylinder with no compression but we're going to drive that out of it so two of these plug wires i guess have gotten the belt i'm gonna replace them with some old ones i took off the falcon check that video out if you haven't well once again we got a fuel line that oh my gosh look someone has braised the metal fuel line back together so i'll probably just cut this off and put a hose on it so i was going to try to start it without doing anything this carburetor but i can see there's a bunch of dirt in there and in here i love the way these rods disconnect i don't know if you can see but you just push them forward like that they're spring-loaded and that's what disconnects them so it's just two rods and two nuts and we're gonna get it off here and look at it well we probably ruined that gasket that's promising what's that can you see the dirt down in there on yes not too good in there i got the four screws out in here man i guess that's the brake clean i poured it or sprayed it i mean it looks like inside the bowl is not that dirty but inside the where the air comes in is really nasty this i guess is the auto mixer screw the mixer screw the needle and seats hanging up i have to say this is probably the heaviest carburetor i've ever worked on it's completely you can see all those passages there it's completely uh cast iron all right so i cleaned the gasket off sprayed out all the orifices took everything apart this is your float this is some sort of like restrictor steel maybe called a blue i don't know then one of these is your idle mixture and the other one's probably your main fuel mixture screw i would guess that's a fueling up with a screen so i want to put this thing back together and try to source a gasket for it i looked on my phone and saw that tractor supply actually had the carburetor kit so they had two options this is the better one it comes with all the shafts and needles and everything so i bought that guy they had a brand new uh sediment filter or whatever and fuel shut off and i went ahead and got my diesel oil and a quart of lucas i know this thing's got to have some very big bearing clearances so i wanted to put some thick oil in it especially being such an old motor and they actually had the oil filter for it so we got everything we needed hopefully to get this thing going i'm gonna go ahead and drain oil i didn't understand that there was a drain plug in the world this big that's crazy i mean what all five quarts six four's gonna come out at the same time okay well it didn't look like it had a bunch of water in or anything that's cool it's got like a screen to catch the junk now we're going to change the oil filter i guess the oil comes in this line and then back out i know a lot of older motors didn't filter all the oil they just filtered part of it but uh for you young whipper snappers this is called a canister oil filter this little thing is being a booger yeah wow it looks pretty clean there there's your filter this may not be good that's all metal paste that's down inside this drain but i don't know if this thing's magnetic it must be unless this screen just catches it all i got all that stuff out of there i took some brake clean and got all that paste out who knows what's in the bottom of the pan that i can't get to though i'm gonna go ahead and put some oil down in this at least halfway to fill up this wool filter got our new filter again perfect i normally run the t6 synthetic rotala but i cheaped out this time on this old tractor i didn't want to spend the money i love pouring this stuff i don't really like using this in modern engines or i only use this on engines that struggle with oil pressure or high mileage so this is a really in-depth kit it comes with about everything i'm not going to use these shafts because mine seems fine but i'm going to use everything there's your seat there's your needle you got your fuel idle and fuel rods and everything got little tiny jets well unfortunately i've been messing with this thing for a while and this little jet here it keeps stripping out i'll try to take it out and the seat is doing the same thing but i did get that fuel mixture screw replaced which it looks fine in the i would call that the emulsion tube but i don't know what it's called i got that replaced i don't think we're going to get these out tonight well i had to reuse the old needle and seat to uh do this unfortunately because i couldn't get that out and the new needle would not fit in the old seats so i'm going to have to use them oh and hopefully i clean them up enough hopefully they're not too wore out so i went ahead and replaced this with a brass fitting i had here instead of doing the funky line replace both those needles put the new gasket on it and we're going to install the easiest carb ever to change out i'm gonna go ahead and see if i oh if i can spill as much water as possible just see if this thing holds water or not well that's probably part of why she's empty swings peeing on us here looks like the only leak we see so far though then take this sediment thing off there that don't look too good believe it or not this gas tank that was sitting in a pile by itself looks to either have some gas or water or something still in it around until i get that out rinse this thing out a little bit old gas in it i went ahead and put the piece of that old fuel line on this end so we're going to sit this on the tractor hopefully this thing catches all the junk that's in this gas can tank i mean all right i'm gonna pour some gas in here it has a little bit of two-cycle oil mixed in see if it fills our sediment filter up with mud it's just not sorry looks good we somehow got this battery down there with 12 volt battery and somebody had wired all this up weird so i hooked up a wire to this side of this resistor the other wire going out goes to the coil everything had been cut and taped so i just unhooked it all so this is our kill switch now oh our kill switch now we're going to try to turn this thing over and see if it runs connections [Music] don't touch the shifter i wouldn't say it's running good it gives a throttle i wonder if that valve's gonna loosen up i wonder how long it'll take this carbon monoxide to kill us wow i don't know how to run that i cannot believe that i did not expect it to start right up this your throttle that's a choke [Music] what a good little tractor huh hope we got oil pressure oh yeah look at it we got 25 pounds oil pressure now i can't believe this this is super exciting wow let's see where our fuel filter looks like over 30 years this thing's been sitting not running because somebody left the key on he said let's give her some throttle i need the air filter [Music] well we let it run here for a few minutes i'm gonna go ahead and shut it off you know that thing sounds pretty darn smooth to be sitting that long getting a little warm wow we're going to get some of that putty from the parts store and fix that hole on the radiator so here's the deal it's like midnight here and i got neighbors real close so i'm not gonna pull it out tonight first thing in the morning or two seconds after this we're going to pull it outside and drive it so we're gonna wait for some daylight where you can actually see what's going on and the neighbors don't shoot me but man can't believe that that's incredible that it would actually run that good that easy not sure if you can see it either but the whole room is full exhaust now well we couldn't video it because it took all of us to put on here but this thing has a rare roof option if you notice from the video we pulled it out of the junkyard you gotta have that well it's the next morning we're in character here got our farming outfit on got a hardy's biscuit in us just like any good southern man i'm gonna hook up my ignition switch now and we're gonna try to drive this thing the first time it'll start again all right we got our choke on [Music] like all right [Music] oh [Music] hey [Music] [Music] oh my gosh [Music] so we're gonna have to take these like and get them that's [Music] good on the go [Music] well that was easier than i thought it would be for a tractor the guy said that he knows it's been sitting at least 30 years i guess the goats are going to take care of it for us when we're not using it out here um i was really surprised check out my other videos i got a bunch of videos of of us getting other things running i got builds uh drag cars and stuff i've built over the years but um yeah thanks for watching appreciate it
