hello everybody it's spectacular silverstack Euler now I believe that I have a fake Morgan dollar right here on this table I wish you could tell me what it is by just looking at it and after the video we'll find out if you were right or not I did get this letter in the mail right here that says spectacular with two C's because I'm too cool says encloses one of the fake Morgan's I purchased at a flea market I am new to coin collecting slash silver stacking and I have watched your channel for several months when I received these Morgan's I did the ping test first and noticed it had more of a dead tone versus my other silver coins once I weighed them I remembered one of your comments that fakes are generally light and these both work this coin is also thinner than a real Morgan I really appreciate your channel and all you put into it I'm currently collecting silver eagles and have at 86 207 and at 20:20 I need to get with coin guy and see if he can hook me up with some years I need thanks again and hope this coin helps you for the future videos from Greg I've hit his address which is here Greg for this nice gift that you've given me in this information on this fake that you found at a flea market I'm gonna give you some spectacular swag up there in the corner you can have all that some stuff you can't get anymore either so thank you again and let's go through this and try to discover which coin is fake real quick I want you to look at these and tell me which one you think is fake based on looks alone so we have an 1880 Morgan dollar has some gunk on it looks like is this the fake just by a quick glance right sometimes when you're at shops that's all you get it is a quick glance here we have a 19 Oh - looks like San Francisco mint mark Morgan dollar and then last but not least we have a 1921 I know the lighting is not a greatest right now what is that let me see oh it's so small is that San Francisco San Francisco yes so that's what we're working with real quick leave me a comment down below tell me which one of these three either one two or three you think is fake one two three so what I got here on my table is several different test methods all right I got a scale I got the red book for information I got some magnets right here some rare earth magnets I got a loop if we need it I've also got some calipers I've got a Sigma medal it exhibition and then at the end we're gonna destroy the fake maybe stay tuned we're gonna see what's actually inside of it so one of the first easiest test I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and weigh it so pop open my scale move these all down a little bit and we're gonna weigh the Morgans now that's why it's good to have the red book because you can't remember everything about coins the red book can which is great we're looking for twenty six point seven three grams so now these all look to be a little bit worn this one's actually in decent condition that one is - this one is definitely worn down but they all have some wear so a little bit of a decrease wouldn't be too bad you start getting a gram or two off red flag red flag for sure so let me see if I can zoom this out a little bit we need to get over to grams so let's change the mode and of course I can't see what I'm doing from here all right we're on grams now let's start with number one on the left hand side what I call a pretty worn out and scratched out Morgan dollar with some gunk on the back maybe the gunk add some weight who knows so again 26 point seven three grams is what we're looking for we're at 26 point one right there I would call that okay so far now one test is not you know the solution you really kinda need to do a couple tests to make sure who goes number two the 1921 26.7 that's right on the money that's that's a perfect wait right there and again a pretty nice shaped coin as far as the wear goes not a whole lot there are some scratches on it but not a lot not a lot of actual wear and number three in 1902 21.2 that's about five and some change grams low right there not great that's honestly that's enough of a red flag that you should be able to determine what's going on here and which coin is actually not legit so yeah that's that's probably gonna be our one right there isn't it that's significant twenty-one point - wow that's low very very low so now the weight test is done let's keep on moving on just for the sake of learning how to do different tests and what it would come up as so let's try let's try magnets on I've never found a coin yet that's a fake this sticks to magnets so you know what I do have these little magnets here but let's go ahead and do something a little bit different I think that China has moved on from the magnetic coinage that they've been putting out and has moved on now what I have here is a rare earth magnets a lot larger you can see how powerful this thing is you can see the diesels right here are reacting to it from very far away even even this guy right here does not like it it seems so look at that that's how powerful these things are so if any of these were magnetic they would definitely react even my light is starting to react to it it's kind of crazy so let's put these down here and let's see if anything sticks geez okay but no coins the coins did not react to it so that's interesting right gosh okay let's just get this out of here all right so Greg said that his coin was actually thinner than a real Morgan which the real Morgan should come in at about two point four millimeters and now you know it can vary a decent amount on Morgan's and actually even peace dollars seem to be a little thicker sometimes so that's why I say it's not the the greatest to only test that so let's first check how thin these things are so there I am I'm with my my calipers I'm gonna go ahead and open it up careful you do this too if you have metal calipers you really risk scratching the coin so you just be very careful be very very careful watch what you're doing like kind of how I'm not watching so let's go ahead and put that on about that point of the coin so two point five and I said two point four is kind of what we want to be but there is a decent tolerance level for these and that's totally acceptable right there the two point five let's go with the next and two point seven that's again a little thicker right but with the tolerance level that's still fine two point four we'll check a couple of their areas just to make sure two point seven pretty consistent all around very good still much higher than that you're really gonna start worrying now this is the supposed fake that we've discovered two point five so you know not really thinner not really thinner than usual two point five this is actually within the tolerance level doesn't seem to be a problem here Greg at least with that part of it now let's go ahead and check the diameter now the diameter according to the book should be thirty eight point one millimeters so that's what we're gonna look for and we're gonna start with the fake this time or the supposed to fit we should say all right and we're gonna go ahead and lock it up tight 37.9 so yeah you know a little shy a little shy on what it's supposed to be but you know with the worn out coin that's almost something you could expect I wouldn't say that's too crazy right there at all like you know that's pretty pretty normal though those numbers so let's keep going this is number one which is 38 on the dot thirty-eight point zero one that's a really good number and again worn coin but good numbers so it wasn't warned that way you know I mean it just warned on the obverse and reverse so now here's number two I'm not touching these without gloves but listen it's for science everybody's science thirty-eight right on the money so good deal so it is a little bit skinny on the diameter I wouldn't say that that would be a total you know red flag you know just because of the diameter if it's it's kind of acceptable ish you know it's not so crazy so anyways calipers are out we're gonna go ahead and turn this off that test is done and there goes the magnets again let's move the red book over well my favorite tests is going to be the signal metal it except I like the signal metal it is just it's simplistic you just put it on there it's going to tell you what it is or what it isn't for the most part some people are having some problems with a machine that I've read in the comments and I will say a lot of the times you are not doing it right and I know that sounds like rude I guess but if you're putting a coin on there that the book says for instance is not silver and you're putting it on here in a silver setting and it's coming up as silver you're messing with the Machine you're trying to get something you know that's not there you're trying to get orange juice from an apple you know what I mean and it's it's reading funny because you're making it read funny you're putting wrong coins on there and messing with the setting so that's you got to really know the coin first and that's why it's good to have a red book or the internet or the mega red book which is a great resource for all the foreign coins because some foreign coins won't go on this thing you know there's all kinds of weird numbers out there like the the Mexican coinage has a lot of unusual purities for silver for instance and this bad boy doesn't do everything so you're gonna put that thing on there and it's not gonna say it's 90% silver well no kidding you knew that from the get-go you you can't do it with this machine so it's not the end-all be-all just make sure you're doing it the right way some coins also just don't want to work I've heard rumors that what is it like some kind of Mexican Libertad proof has a real problem on this thing I haven't had to put one of them there myself but I've heard so anyways I got this thing set to the pre nineteen hundred per the instructions of pre nineteen hundred is where you want Morgan dollars and so that's where we're going to put them this is the supposed fake we're gonna put it right on the money and it's off to the right hand side right this is not something where it's going to mess up on something simple like a Morgan dollar I mean this is it is what it is this should be right there in those brackets it's definitely not so that's the supposed fake we're going to remove it and let's go with number two we're going backwards now so that was three here we are number two in 1921 and it's in the middle of the brackets it's a good coin it's reading as 90% silver and last but not least number one with the gunk on the back again good coin reading right in the middle so multiple tests so far have showed this to be you know a bad coin one more thing we can do real quick that's a free test doesn't cost you any money is to go ahead and do the ping test now I believe that Gregg said that this thing pinged all kinds of funny so we're going to listen to this versus the what I think should be the real Morgan's and we're going to see what they sound like so I'm gonna pang I'm just going to take this coin on the tip of my finger hit the other coin against the edge and let it ring and listen to the sound that's so high pitched it has a real funny tailing - I've never heard the way that tails off before I feel like that's gonna be brass inside I mean that's just what it sounds like it sounds like a heavy piece of brass so hopefully can tell the difference I'm just going to try to take two and so you can really enjoy the different sound hopefully that's not messing with your dog too much real quick the 19-21 will go ahead and hit that just to make sure these are the two real ones identical right both of these are good coins these are both good coins I'm very confident these are good coins now I can get the loop out and it's not gonna go through this camera very well to get the loop I'm gonna try to zoom in though for the sake of showing you all the coin up close you can see the first thing that jumps out at me is the toning all around the coin it's it's artificially toned obviously and you know it's doesn't look good doesn't look like real Tony this is real Tony this is what happens right the coin you can see like this rainbow kind of looked to it there it kind of goes dark silver tones that way when you know sulphur gets on it and that's just what occurs that's the natural way this right here is what occurs when somebody actually paints a product on there some kind of colorization and to get it to a tone looks like they purposely wiped away focal points here to try to keep that toning off like for instance all around Liberty's head none of that is toned really so it's just been wiped and it looks like it's all been wiped downwards - as they you know artificially tone this thing and here's the reverse now this is a great looking coin if you know it wasn't a fake let's get it real close up to these letters right here because sometimes you can tell from the letters of them being kind of like you know soft and and not very crisp and I'm talking about like states let's focus on States and look how those letters look you know I mean like they don't look terrible but you can tell they're not sharp let's look at another one here let's look at a good Morgan and compare the states so hold on we're just gonna compare states now hopefully we got the we get the light over here we need a light for this one so we're just gonna compare letter so the bottom of the state the bottom States R is the fake one the top is the good one and look at the difference in like just the e you can see how much more crisp this thing is there's like some indentations in the bottom e right there this should not be there the top is just straight as can be the bottom T right here in the middle this one this T has a weird like gash and part of it for whatever reason the die messed up the top one is as steady as she goes perfect shape the tips at the upper part of the T or flawless really good the bottom part is more elongated it's a totally different look isn't it totally totally different so yeah a quick glance would tell you not so good let's see if we can see anything on the mint marks so the S is here I try to get both of them so the bottom again is the good coin look how tiny that that s is right there and sharp-looking two versus the top s which is it looks like it was just I don't know put on there and and flattened out a little bit it's kind of like a fat s isn't it yeah not a good coin not a good coin but Gregg knew that Gregg was able to determine that and I asked him for this you know so I could educate people and show people what a real one is not one of the quickest and easy test you can do is that ping test you know get permission when you're out there buying these things make sure that the shop is not going to be mad at you if you're sitting there hanging all their coins but so simple so simplistic you don't got to bring the signal metal it expand with you to do that you can just take another coin hit it and listen for that sound now the ping test is not the end-all be-all it's not percent accurate all the time but I tell you what a lot of the times in my experience that right there that little ping will tell you if the coins good or not so let's destroy it right let's get rid of this coin I actually kind of want to see what's in the middle of it I assume we're gonna see the brass kind of color inside let's open it up we shouldn't see a brass color right it should be a real coin it should be all silver inside but here we go this may take me a second I don't know where I cut it boom here we go just gonna cut it right here wish me luck because this is not easy on metal and last time I will stab my eye okay so so far you can see that brass color inside hopefully would see a zoom in a little bit more yeah can you enjoy that so that thing should be this color all throughout the inside of it because it should be silver but it's obviously not it has like a golden color to it so would not be sweet though if there's actually gold inside man-boy of my face be red if they snuck gold in there don't worry they didn't know it's actually brass just keep going through it a little bit more okay yeah not good not a good coin hopefully that that shop at the flea market gave you your money back you know feel free feel free Greg to message me all right there in the comments let me know you know what they were trying to charge you for this thing what they ended up doing when you found that it was fake you know what name off the store name off the store that did this you know we want to protect everybody and if they're not testing their stuff or if they're purposely trying to sell fakes we need to get them out of our hobby you know we really do and it should be no problem for any size shop to be able to test the stuff that they give you you know I mean they should have these sigma metal it expands they should have some way of testing and be able to articulate and vocalize to you what those ways are there is no excuse for any shop to not be able to do that and if they're embarrassed to do it then walk away you know I mean if they're if they're not going to tell you what it is that they're uh you know it's kind of private it's a trade secret no it's not it's not a trade secret to let me know how you test your corns to make sure that I'm getting something real so that's my ring I kind of get a little angry there didn't you know sorry Greg you had to go through that him and I've been showing a lot of fakes on this channel lately which I want people to be aware people want to go out there and buy and they want to get the best in lowest price but sometimes you have to really be careful because the lowest price sometimes can be a fake coin anyways Greg thank you I'm gonna send out that care package to you as a gift for being nice enough to send me this right here as a demonstration tool so I can show other people and we can all learn from this we can definitely learn from this you know obviously nobody's gonna be able to use this again because it was cut right there so you know shame on those people for for making it probably some Chinese company out there thought that they were gonna make a quick buck and I bet you anything you know they got away with it for a little while I mean obviously they sold it to you so it's a shame if it sounds too good to be true it is if it's coming from China stay away from it anyways at this point if you don't mind just giving me a thumbs up I would greatly appreciate it subscribe if you haven't subscribed I'd love to have you on it as a subscriber for sure and leave me a comment let me a comment I want an honest comment too if you were one of the ones that thought one of these other coins worthy were the fake ones you know be honest about it there's no shame in that no shame you know I've seen some coins before where I was gonna buy them and come out to be fake we've all done it you've seen experts that's been doing this for 50 years buy fake coins just be careful out there right this point got to go spectacular is out you [Music]
