character in one sentence come to pandora kiddos what a warm welcome to pandora jack well done your ability to walk short distances without dying will be handsome jack's downfall he's not wrong gotta keep those bully moms at bay or they'll rip your eyes out and pay for this that or your mom just got out of bed low blow clap trap low blow hey kiddo jack here vault hunters show up vault hunter gets killed so if you could just do me a favor and off yourself that'd be great thanks pumpkin jack immediately disregarding the player in the most condescending way knuckle dragger wasting no time turning cursing can we just take a second to appreciate damian clark what a terrific performance as i'm sure you all know the pretzel bit was improvised clark was just eating pretzels in the booth been pretty good just bought a pony made of diamonds yeah because i'm rich not sure how it works but it exists and i'm here for it this is stupid but i like it and i do it every playthrough sorry darn it the first hint to angel being more than just an ai you're so unburdened with things like ah dignity i almost forgot to mention dignity jack never fails to make you laugh even when he's insulting you i used to be a vault hunter like you that's how i formed the crimson raiders didn't know roland was a white run guard i'll get back to the city we'll meet up once i get there welcome to the crimson region roland is peeing during this conversation how do i know what the hell did those bandits snag you anyway i was taking a leak one of them knocked me out some of the soundtrack has no reason being this good just just listen to this [Music] please just turn yourselves in and i promise your deaths will be quick oh thanks jack that's so nice of you i'm going to spend a long time torturing you bandit scum of death and i'll enjoy it even more because you'll never take me alive you robotic zone [ __ ] never change scooter never change like cousins taking a bath together sounds a little suspicious what you want just buy something difference between crazy earl and randy pitchford another small detail but each character has a different height hmm i don't know sticking to company policy you're hearing this i'm in trouble right now you're the only thing standing between this city hell the whole planet and handsome jack's army it might just be me but i love marcus lloyd's i enjoy the idea that the bloodshot sent pyros to attack the firehawk even though we knew the firehawk was the lift that doesn't diminish how badass this intro is actually reviving lilith makes her feel like she's more a part of this world he's not here the bloodshots grabbed him made him cocky too they never came after me this hard roland even inspires his enemies what a great dude now the real fun begins i'll see if i could say this is where the fun begins anybody just me no okay don't get many visitors around here especially not one so cute never change just bring him back and we'll get you rolling huh runs in the family gearbox again does nothing but improve upon the first game i like it make sure nothing happens to rowland still caring for your ex satan's only is his voice silky smooth but he's a badness some actual subtle foreshadowing the you die on the wall that is god damn it he's getting away many might have missed this but if you take too long to kill the warden he leaves and you've got to go all the way to the friendship gulag to save him handsome jack is gonna kill us all unless you can stop him he means hi that's his way of saying hi rowan's the guy in charge but maybe not the life of the party hey mordecai's back [Applause] bloodwing has her own echo device all around the stack this plant the stalker chased the bandit the stalker thought was all in fun ashley burch kills it as tiny tina everything she says is a win so here's this for you running running i'm running over here first and they got stolen by the bandits a few days ago go get them here [Music] take them take them take them take them take them slow clap damian clark bravo upon first playing you would probably not notice the nuance in this performance but after seeing what happens you can easily tell that jack is acting angry also what he says is true the gloves do come off hey you know i think it's finally time to tell you that little secret angels working for me lowering sanctuary's shields jack wow what a twist this is built up in such a great manner and executed perfectly add on the wonderful performance of brittany johnson to make this moment even more heartbreaking goosebumps every time first time jack is at a loss for words i like this jump that is all no big deal find a way back here as quick as you can stay humble angel what the hell are you doing listening to jack shelby realize angel's not helping us is so satisfying they're launching the fast travel station now nothing gets results like a death threat did she learn that from jack definitely learn that from jack parenting sure let's listen to the crazy computer that just tried to kill us it's with me i'm charging the vault key she makes a good argument continue oh i moved her a few hours ago somewhere a little more dramatic jack moving bloodwing to somewhere more dramatic is such a jack thing to do this whole fight is epic and heartbreaking huh same sound as sniper rifles from borderlands ones [Applause] explosive also a very jack thing to do what a turning point in this game everything before this was just fun looter shooter action but now jack made this personal for the vault hunters and the player oh i had a violin somewhere i was gonna play it all circassically god damn it was gonna be awesome for a friend [Applause] [Music] screw you it would have been hilarious if i found it earlier shut up jack's a douchebag threw bloodwing out and bloodwing just flew around and around in circles not attacking anybody yeah he wanted mordecai to see him do it wanted to make him proud a cute joke about a bug from the first game at the face in the face do it shoot me in the face face my space face face now i think he wants us to shoot him in the face i don't know why but this revealed took me by surprise and him ripping off the mask my slabs are probably still trying to kill you because they're freaking idiots psycho continuity the gang's back together if you look opportunity's reflection is the same everywhere so time management skills if you live i'm tearing those clothes right off your body go on oh brick all you have to do is get past a force field that'll atomize you destroy a bunker carrying enough firepower to level a continent and get through a door you can't possibly open that's his way of saying we're probably gonna die inspiring confidence i will defend you to the death minion oh god no i won't character continuity jack over the course of the game has been taking us more and more seriously but here it feels like it reaches ahead damian clark's performance is as menacing as he will ever be with that delivery the bunker is just a great boss fight to end this gauntlet posing voice the build up to him jack designing it himself and when you take it down it's the first loot explosion of the game so good hello sexy of course jack has an ai that greets him like this [Music] i might have a problem it must destroy his catalyst he must destroy it some might have already known she was a siren but either way when the camera pulls back to see angel with her wings and tattoos such a great reveal there's our answer and why she wasn't cursing please don't kill my baby girl jack pleading for angel's life is such a great moment for him it really makes you question is he serious about it or is he just trying to manipulate us the game never really answers this question but that's okay the conflict during this entire fight is amazing and i can't praise it enough dad you're an [ __ ] getting the last word in i'm going oh my god what an entrance murdering roland out of nowhere stealing livelet's line to do it and then tap dancing on the lift with that choker all while you can't do anything but watching horror there couldn't have been a better way for jack to be first seen in the flesh i had tiny tina riding piggy back right throwing grenades at the saw teeth while i punched him in the red the image this produces in my mind brings me so much joy okay i definitely have a problem i just love jumping down big heights [Music] it's me rolling let's kill handsome jack no i'm just playing he's still really dead oh jack on twitter oh who saw this coming what an awesome throwback to the location that started it all [Music] never change brick i love when games do this with your objective titles super simple but holds so much weight a new soul yeah oh i'll just there you go reinforcements don't worry baby happens to a lot of girls flapjacks got some games oh poor claptrap wow just look at this design it's both gorgeous and haunting all at once i love that jack is an easy fight he's not a vault hunter like us and he's not our final boss oh but does whooping him feel good oh my gosh the lava is rising how am i supposed to focus on the warrior oh thanks you are bandit and i am the goddamn hero even in the end jack is uncompromising in this character gotta admire him a bit this guard face left so many questions at the time hey mordecai and bricker live wow what a way to end it so many possibilities with this ending no rest for the wicked call back back in 2012 who saw this game being one of the greatest hits in the last generation borderlands was good and had a following but it was this game that made borderlands household name for gearbox there are a lot of games that you ask yourself was this worthy of being a sequel not here gearbox improved upon their first game in every aspect the first thing i'm sure we all noticed was the graphical overhaul the devs stuck to the art style of the first but made it so gorgeous in the process i mean just look at some of these vistas with the cherry on top of them varying the locations even in 2020 this game still holds up some levy complaints that the pre-sequel in borderlands 3 didn't evolve from this but i'm okay with that i love the look of this game in borderlands 3 just tidied up this beautiful art style and of course i would be remiss not to mention the guns it's kind of borderland's mo again taking things from the first game and building off them the different gun manufacturers was a brilliant idea you pick up a gun and you know exactly who made it toward explosions malawan elements jacobs yeehaw then you throw on legendary serif and pearlescent weapons on top of these manufacturers and we got ourselves iconic weaponry everyone knows the bee the conference call hellfire interfacer oh and let's not forget the unique weapons the grog nozzle elephant gun good and bad touch the bane all of these flavored text guns are the pinnacle weaponry in this game and it's brilliant some even say the guns are the main characters of the game and i feel inclined to agree borderlands took the idea of guns as a tool to dare i say an art form that may be pushing it but i just need to make it clear how amazing the guns are in this game and the gameplay i'll touch on it real quick but it's addicting the loop is simple but so satisfying some people use it as a dig against the game but but i think that's its greatest strength the act of running around head shotting bandits and seeing that level up screen just feels right add on boss farming for legendaries and you can see how easy it is to dump hours into this game a beautiful art style great guns great gameplay what am i forgetting oh oh yeah the voice actors every actor brings their a game here it's amazing what these people are able to bring to these characters the fact that we feel for these characters so deeply based on their voice acting alone is an achievement easily over half the dialogue is through the echo device and yet we still understand these characters so well let's talk about our leaning man jack i'll just get this out of the way now damien clark is a genius his performance created one of the most iconic villains in all of gaming he's the bad guy but you can't help but not not want him around i don't want to go as far to say this game is on jack's shoulders but i wouldn't feel guilty to if jack was just some generic bad guy i don't think this game's story would have worked it works because of jack the way he's constantly echoing in on you being ever present you can't escape him and anytime you look into the sky you see helios i can't think of another villain that's as charismatically evil as him we love to hate jack but we also love to love jack it's sad to see him go at the end but inevitable who am i kidding he's in the next two games so handsome jack these are for you another thing is how borderlands 2 recontextualizes the events of the first game borderlands was a simple story with a simple plot they could have easily ignored most of the first game but they took what happened and ran with it another thing they didn't have to do was bring back so many characters from the first game they easily could have created a new cast and just made another adventure on pandora but they didn't they give so much character development to our og4 that i can't help but be thankful for that anthony burch killed it and deserves his praise and the last thing i want to touch on is the idea of heroism who is the hero of the game jack will tell you it's him hammerlock will say it's us and of course the game presents itself as us being the hero and jack the bad guy and the game doesn't pull any punches with this delineation jack murders tortures and enjoys it the whole time but how are we much different we torture too see the end of dragon key or the tiny tina mission with flesh dick we run around indiscriminately murdering bandits and looting whatever we want because we can when we get to sanctuary angel says this now the last refuge for thieves murderers and outcasts welcome home not exactly the kind of crowd you'd expect heroes to be running with yes you could make the argument jack's deeds are worse than they are but how much worse also we side with the slabs straight up bandits so when he calls us that he's right let's talk about jack's plan jack came to pandora to colonize it in his image be the savior wipe out the psycho bandit scum and create a better world for pandora and he was going to use the warrior to do it now our plan kill jack take control of the warrior and wipe hyperion off the map okay so jack wants to rid pandora of crazy lunatics and a couple sprinkled in good people as utilitarian as it is it's not that bad the vault hunters want to wipe hyperion off the map so you can assume that big age in the sky has got to go and on that ship are normal employees is trying to make their way in the universe there are good people up there as tales from the borderlands showed i'm sure there are more good people up there than there are on pandora jack wanted to make pandora a better place his ideals are noble and where we presented this scenario in real life i feel like most people would side with jack i'm not here to say whether he is the hero or not the borderlands 2 still subtly poses the question [Music] this jackal rushes me with a spoon a freaking spoon [Music] what game do you want to see when next i'm working on an upload schedule with games being as large as they are it's a bit more time consuming to create these videos i'm working on my process and as soon as i know you'll know i don't know maybe you had to be there the moral is you're a total [ __ ]
