[Music] hey it's the same brand of spider that bit both miles and peter these four photos are just everything that makes peter peter when things were going great we've got his family friends and his city all happy this was presumably before spider-man took hold of his life then we pan over to find a police skater just peter and ant-may and a wilted plant what a way to show where peter is at now versus where he was all the life sucked out of his younger self and now all he's got left is his spider-man job and may in just 10 seconds ensom translates all of this visually so on this crossword puzzle we've got kumquat king pizza and the last one looks like bing i don't know but to me nothing is there without reason so let's see kumquats are native to china just as lee is peter has spent his entire spider career chasing kingpin pizza super new york and also one of peter's staple jobs and i guess peter in the amazing spider-man 1 used bing if you all can read that please let me know pete's to-do list has nothing on it he's either done it all or his life's a mess judging by the next 30 seconds and personal experiences i'm going with the latter and if the wilted plant and the almighty peter picture only combo wasn't enough to explain this peter to us we've got a faded mug energy bars a cracked laptop two empty savings jars and tools everywhere all to tell us that boy is just your average 23 year old so we are shown five of peter's enemies from this rogues gallery and any spidey fan can assume that just one more is making our sinister six so it's happening as we go through the story we were given another three rogues and lee auto and shocker so to the uninitiated it leaves a lot of questions as to who's gonna be our sixth member this sets up two cool reveals with leon otto as shocker isn't easy sixth they even throw his face in a card on the bottom left later to suggest that that's our lineup then start swapping around when you catch lee all to say if you're blind going into spider-man ps4 who knows who's ending up on the team all these sticky notes are so peter parker and spider-man we've got peter problems with brent and loans then spidey ones like finding out yuri's birthday and trolling j jonah jameson and it's webbing time really don't take this from ben grimm and we book in this long take with ben of course we do better than seeing pete's origin again after all we've seen i'm amazed his phone isn't cracked too good job pete look how beautiful this peter parker is he's older an adult and man weathered by the whole eight years of spider-man will do to you he doesn't look like he just started his junior year in high school this long take was the perfect way to introduce us in psalms peter it catches up to speed on everything this is made easier because we all know his origin all the way down to crusher hogan so ensem is able to just let us know about their peter real quick and trust that we can follow peter is so crafty that he even modifies his toaster or fixed it after it broke or made it better after it broke the way otto wants to do to others did i just compare otto wanting to help the disabled by making them so much better to peter's toaster yes which sounds insensitive so let's just go with peter modded his perfectly working toaster to auto start his toast and cook super fast and spider-man is always running out of time holy look at our spider-man he's got the beautiful hero pose halo effect and everything while being surrounded by all his peter parker stuff yup this is about as spider-man as it gets diagetic hud well most licensed music in our movies and games are super apt to the situation and alive by juarez jets is no different for peter here just one listen to the chorus and you'd understand why not even three minutes into the game and end someone's got a swinging a spider-man going to take down one of spidey's bigger rogues and not even three minutes in and i'm two pages deep in this script this is gonna be a good one the swinging oh the swinging it's how you remember spider-man ps2 being but it's not this swing felt perfect at the time until miles morales of course even with playing as miles i don't feel like this is a downgrade swinging really never gets old and feels so good uh hello parker where are you why is otto's number just work right now only explanation is that enzyme wanted to hide auto for as long as possible since he wasn't in any promotional material so doesn't make sense in universe but makes a better play experience for the unknown player [Music] bring in the hammer bring the hammer what are you five guys the anvil like i know you got them pinned down but it's still to me a piss-poor animal oh well self-confidence i guess spidey's combat is wonderful of course inspired by arkham's free flow but different enough to make it its own such as spider-man dodging versus countering wanting to stay in the air more versus being grounded and guns don't one-shot you that was a weird thing to get used to the nimbleness of spider-man is always on display here in the combat in comparison to the brute force of batman and would you have our first combat anywhere else in new york i find it cute that fisk's men dress in purple form i guess this is what they call a hostile workplace spider-man has got so many great clips in this game that are never overbearing and almost always funny so here's a quick counter for you uh hi ant-man what is all that noise peter's responsibility saying hello to spider-man yep it's officially a spider-man story says the guy frantically erasing his search history true but that's part of my charm isn't it every boomer younger than interaction this has got to be a nod to if this be my destiny moment whenever he lifts the heavy machinery love spider-man's main theme it's almost generic in the way it sounds of it being just so heroic but it fits him so well and the variations john pasano brings makes it all the better fun fact he did the score from netflix daredevil which was also a banger the parkour is great peter parkour anyone it's okay i hate me too don't forget the hyphen between spider and man uh you do know i can still see you right if you look closely when a cutscene starts and needs to be in the correct place environmentally they hide the jump in location with action in the cut this is done multiple times here and in other games like the alien abbey fight in tilo 2. and unless you're looking for it there's a good chance you won't notice it i think it's really clever and well done thank god we get the choice of turning off qtes so we can just enjoy the cinematic i can't believe fisk's neck or back didn't break so we could remove a character and create conflict inside of peter so should we kiss now i'm the one who kept order in this city one month in one month you wish you had me back even after everything that happens probably not but it's some food for thought as it's this takedown that gets the ball rolling for a lot of our antagonists namely lee i believe otto would have happened no matter what but lee might not have a reason i've always loved fisk is that he really truly does love new york even if he cares for it in the wrong way god i love doc's enthusiasm but sometimes it gets him into trouble and that enthusiasm gets him thrown in prison peter speaks in an exerted manner when swinging and fighting versus when he's not i'm sorry i'm late peter's really perfected the hair after the mask comes off our first frame of seeing otto is basically in some letting us know that doc ock is coming even though it's super on the nose it's beautifully done just like in the end it's up to peter to be the one to unhook the arms for motto is anyone hurt no it was all my fault peter immediately taking blame for otto even though it wasn't his fault in the slightest from a certain viewpoint that's a very positive development from a certain point of view star wars has ruined that line for me forever as every time i hear it i hear alec guinness inside my head i assure you in the next phase i will enact my revenge on the person i hate most and kill the city i mean get it working otto is in green for the entire game so uh we'll talk later nice i know doc said take the day off but i have to figure out what went wrong peter you're off the clock oh well being a stand-up guy i suppose these puzzles you either love them or you hate them but you can't deny that these are good for breaking up the pacing and spider-man it up in cutscenes and if you really hate them like me you could just turn them off in settings so why'd you call need a date to the policeman's ball you got a black and white suit ha ha venom's not here yet you break it you buy it i thought you trusted me the voice actors for peter and yuri are actually married in real life which is probably a factor in why their chemistry is so good here where'd peter get a cryptographic sequencer spider cops on it part man part spider oh cop can we just get a side quest with pete just trying to annoy yuri pro tip on these towers just freak out on the sticks till you see green or press r1 this is how you do a collectible have them flush out the world and characters not collect a hundred feathers for my dead little brother for a cool cape not good can't have people taking pictures of my three chest hairs if you look closely at the shirtless spider suit there are actually three chest hairs modeled onto peter parker peter and otto like the same chinese restaurant and eat it to burn the midnight oil wonder who influenced too i guess if you design his equipment you're bound to be a target too auto thinking or at least pretending to believe that peter is the designer speaks to his respect of peter's abilities and we get some fun tension with the dialogue by playing the misunderstanding game i hope you don't mind but i noticed the suit was a bit damaged and i took the liberty of sketching up some of my own improvements no matter what peter will always have a piece of otto with him and if you want to be a hater and sadden a piece of duck this new suit is nice and bold to those that don't read comics like me i thought the white was a risky take on the spidey suit until i looked at the other suits he's rocked pretty lame in comparison but hey looks great this suit test montage is lovely and made the base for miles suit up scene to parallel to because those incompetent bureaucrats built a network that crashes more often than a wino driving a bumper car jay jonah jameson's show is great such a clever way to have our actions feel like they have an effect on the world and entertain us while we swing around new york looks like he attached an idea for a spidey gadget man does he ever stop inventing it's otto that crafts the best spidey gadget in my opinion we're gonna change the world doc i'll settle for not starting any more fires humility girl problems again huh what no that's crazy the two of you would make some beautiful babies yuri does such a fantastic job playing both peter parker and spider-man difference is subtle but it's there sacrificing so much and asking for nothing i just wish there were more people like you in the world pete turns what was just a simple distraction job into a heartfelt moment notice the isolated letter five here is that because lee will be serving himself up as the fifth member of the sinister six thanks again for the party and everything it really means a lot leaves drop smile he's the bad guy don't move buddy if i had a nickel for every don't move mj to the rescue first step in her not being the damsel i think this is yours yeah oh still using your spidey strap even after the breakup it looks like we're gonna have to run something else on the cover you know what i think i can make today work to continue on that not a damsel theme mj games the hell out of this art director this cut peter opened like a pork sausage with this the first time they fought some neat little world building looking around at these pieces of art so we play stealth sections as mj and miles i didn't love it either but from a game and development standpoint i understand why they wanted it they first wanted us to feel what it was like to be a normal person in a superhero's world cool i dig it then they wanted us to walk a mile on their shoes to feel more connected to their arcs which i feel this accomplishes well and finally to break up the spider-man sections to try and serve some pacing goal though the gameplay wasn't very fun i completely understand and support their inclusion miles and rounds didn't have this issue as it was a much shorter game right okay um you hide back there i take out the bad guys you make a break when it's clear sounds like a plan love how nonchalant this plan is these two have probably done this countless times let's not make this all about business how's how's it going with you did did you get that promotion no but we're on the cusp of something really big every mj and pete scene are so well done the writing directing and acting here is top notch feels super believable do you remember why we broke up this is a trick question isn't it [Laughter] saved by the siren the siren's calling with a presumably right answer him being spider-man isn't the issue here so misdirection win love seeing you two together again you always were my favorites stan the man we miss you hi herman seriously after eight years this feels like the appropriate response i'm done talking but this could be so much more rewarding if we connected on an emotional level she wanted an expert opinion on it and i know you have a degree and this might be the first time i actually get to use it love when media jabs at college got some time to kill before doc needs me at the lab let's do a little spidey workout in the city game will force us to go out and be friendly neighborhood occasionally to push us to side content but also build our relationship with the city how the hell are you speak of the devil ha ha i get it otto hates norman and norman created devil's breath want to play 20 questions no how about we thumb right demon gang sounds like a daily bugle headline well i've heard they have some really good reporters complimenting your ex that you're still not over let me send an officer to meet you there his name's jefferson davis that's his beat jefferson davis miles morales i feel like i'm in a horror movie hello any fisherman with a grudge and a hook for a hand gadget man huh you remind me of my son we get it jd miles is your son now he's unlocking his friend's phones sounds like he could teach me a few things second game shadowing thank god this game auto subs and the demons speak looking at you cyberpunk doing my best to catch up but you might be on your own stay safe jeff don't do anything crazy does something crazy there are way too many brown shoes in this crowd for that shoe company to not be making the best shoes around so here's to the shoe company these subway loading screens are great of course but i also love that everyone in the subway is pretty unbothered by spider-man not that either huh you sure they were around here gotta love eddie for staying patient with peter and not getting angry at his three plus phone calls uh hi mj it's peter any chance i could stay over it oh that's too formal mj i was just in the neighborhood and ah that's lame god this is so relatable i've done this so many times before talking to an ex or girlfriend i can't take this you can and you will no i'm more nice but please take care of this place it represents the best part of me martin lee really does care for feast it's not an act to pull a fast one on others he means it when he says this for that reason alone i really dig his character in this game good on ensom for this level playing similarly to the e3 demo they were really close to getting a tit for tat damn puddle gate hey willy you i like the fisk face times his cronies wait the demons who's their leader keep my men alive and maybe i'll tell you enemy if my enemy is my friend this crane save is in my top three set pieces of the game and the reason to turn off qte so we can just appreciate all the work that went into a scene like this you might want to bring a ladder miles miles you know miles is tech savvy when he turns off the auto corrective on my way to on my way the superhero or maybe i'm just a guy who doesn't give up imparting some final wisdom that your son will live a whole game by or half a game if you're cynical and mean instead of coffee maybe we could have dinner instead this look why don't you grow a pair and tell me what you want to watch you suffer hence why the one with the bomb vest got norman out of the blast range also to make him look bad it's gotta suck being peter in this crowd wanting and trying to help but knowing you can't do as much lest you reveal your secret identity i love you i have to go find that okay again walking the mile let's go with kilometer and miles shoes making this moment with davis and him much more meaningful to the player and he literally risks his life just to find his dad wish i had that type of love with my father peter's death walking over to press r2 on our boy i know what you're going through that's what you were gonna say right it all gets easier with time i'm sorry i was just trying to help i really understand and relate to miles reaction here sometimes you just need to be alone and don't want to hear the script the earth crying for a good man down they're all claiming martin lee has the power to quote corrupt people it brings out the negative part of you makes you do things you wouldn't normally do ah so that's why they call him mr negative not just because of his looks nice entrance solid eight out of ten really want ensom spider-man to meet reynolds deadpool sorry about that stable thing it's okay we're still best buds we're not best buds i love their dynamic look around see if there's anything else i can do to help you out oh you you don't have to i know i want to these two are so cute something that no one has seemed to mess up about spider-man so far is this relationship in whatever form they decide to do it the bombers are still out there who knows what they've planned next as long as you stay away from places you're not supposed to be there's nothing more fun than interactions like this parker exciting news come by the lab uh like now this is my defining moment can't wait to show you the choice to have a slow burn up with otto to doc ock was great taking the time to get to know him and his relationship with pete is what makes the ending so powerful which is the big advantage of the format of a video game you get so much more time this is all your fault norman you son well i know who you're not voting for in the next election norman became more and more obsessed with genetics he started a project i considered unethical it could be a noddy conor's lizard or devil's breath but it's actually just some foreshadowing of the lee event because i still haven't found another job my like this puzzle because it has narrative stakes sorry i'm late it's kind of my thing that totally worked last time jesus posed subversion it's been eight years he's already had that moment again adding to the history and age of the spider-man hurry he's still doing construction on 42nd first street's closed for another month why spidey knows exactly where he is in new york even after tells you to turn off your game and go to bed but the second she closes the door you're right back to it liar you have no idea what you're in for and the octopus is here is me wearing purple because it's the color of royalty and power she is you know may feel about you and now running face so yeah carrying the device used in the grand central terminal attack oh it never ends peter has been disappearing for eight years at the first sign of trouble but he's like gotta keep my secret identity safe who thought it was a good idea to bring rockets into a prison a question miles will pair it a year later [Music] this helicopter doesn't explode when it lands i think we're growing up what's your status me by the time scorpion shows up we understand exactly what's happening and we are as excited for it as we are dreading what's to come god this is awesome he's really not doing a bad job fighting the five of them i wish there was a missions where we took them all on in game but this is still great i waited the whole game for this shot to talk about how ensem made sure their cinematography created comic panels in their framing many times throughout if you pause on a certain frame it looks like it's ripped straight out of a comic panel and this is my favorite example of that could you imagine if it was just fisk or shocker showing up as a leader i did not see the grandeur of the third act coming my first time around i've gotten so used to games not going this extra mile that when it happened i was kind of shocked they gave the streets a makeover added even more open world content and had it all tie into the main narrative we need help at feast sisters then from rikers are demanding food and supplies she knows he's spider-man because a normal peter wouldn't have much to really lend here how did they even get that thing attack only one more a good question for a different time miles to the rescue uh so i didn't know if uh you wanted sparkling or or flat or spring miles being such a fan is super cute i really just want to be his friend am i interrupting and he can read a room do you have his number are you spiderman's girlfriend that'd be so cool [Laughter] otto really is the smartest super villain peter's faced he figures out an angle on all his goons to get them to work for him and quickly creates a plan and works towards giving those guys what they want and what each of them wants is actually real human level stuff a point in some wanted to make was no mustache twirling villains and they really accomplished that rhino once out of his suit vulture wants a cure to his spinal cancer electro wants to be pure energy and scorpion seems to just want a fresh start with a clean record and no debt everyone here has got a personal reason to be helping doc subverting the i hate spider-man and bad guy trope pairing off the first four of the sixth was a good idea and from a design standpoint having this first one being aerial battle was awesome fighting these two with real flight against our pseudo-flight was a great test in web slinging ability mixed with combat prowess that led to my favorite boss encounter of the game feud i thought we had a healthy give and take man if i misread this relationship how many times have we done this dance adrian a dozen two dozen there are other times peter mentions this like in his backpack collectibles that vulture is his longest running foe which is apt since tombs is the oldest in this lineup from a literal league ditko creation and oldest age-wise among the six electro's been grounded and some stated they really like this mission as the poison gave them a lot of freedom just to get wacky with everything and through this poison we get to take a hop inside peter's mind and learn that he really blames himself for otto's fall and that he holds on to a lot of guilt everything otto says here is just a manifestation of peter's insecurities for us to ponder scorpion's poison is just acid and i'm getting big arkham racial ghoul energy here i think i did it where'd my suit go and after all that heavy character work we get a nice funny button on this mission didn't you tell me something once about accepting that i'm human just like everyone else call back to help you're a nutmeg forcing us to play as miles because rhino is scary a good reminder of how defenseless the people are without spider-man not gonna be saying anything in a second nice miles putting that lesson to use you want a taste you want a taste i gotta work on my fight banner you'll have time so what's the end for these particular means freedom true freedom no more future no more rhino rhino literally doesn't want this life in out of the suit it makes me pause for a second and think of what pete is doing is the right thing it isn't the end because his goals are sound of course it's just the way he's going about it that's wrong so spidey's got to stop him you guys are octavius huh you have a name yet the scary six the dirty half dozen how about we murdered spiderman and used his corpse for a blanket today you know that really doesn't roll up the tongue scorpion i think spidey is onto something here please you embarrass yourself what is this fight [Music] the married couple finally get a room i know a few sable agents who would love to meet you finally we get to fight back as mj women and sable right on cue notice that norman has a detection meter as he would be the only one here suspicious of mary jane is this helmet a goblin prototype let's see asm 14. oh that's a nod to the amazing spider-man number 14. the debut comic of the green goblins so yeah it is can ensem stop being so good at what they're doing with making every antagonist have mostly good reasons for doing what they're doing it's making hard to hate your villains i know that's the point [Music] seems everyone has a way of creating their worst enemy in the spider-man world osborne is working double time and made two silver sable got the lead position because she's the only one smart enough to shoot the glass [Music] from downtown they've both done so much good for the world they can't throw their legacies away just despite norman sure they can watch them you secure osborne i will talk to them sable uncharacteristically letting us go after norman instead of herself leads us to a cool boss fight so thanks i know what happened to your parents the accident you sound as clinical as osborne lee and peter are very similar as they feel they are responsible for their worst demons difference here is lee blames someone else while peter blames himself really just a dark mirror of peter an opposite a negative version of him if you will am i the only one thinking that lee looks ridiculous in triple tap iphone mode don't let revenge win fight it almost got through to him what great performance capture and acting from steven o young remember how i said miles walks like a g well peter's got a badass walk too when lee finally lets out the demon it looks like the one from the story's lee's father used to read him and our hud turns black and white during this fight ready for your final act double meaning norman's been a fake politician and about to die who's running this place me mostly times are getting desperate it's just miles running the place now not discrediting the kid but he's been there for what a day good on these guys for not taking up spider-man's mask go get him tiger gives me goosebumps and gets me cheesin every time this spider having 42 on its booty's direct out of the comics but also 42 is what is said to be the meaning of life in hitchhiker's guide and finally 42 is jackie robinson's number recent events giving you pause your rescue of osborne despite his hatred it affected me sable turning a new leaf we did the impossible duck but now i have to destroy it having to destroy dark soup they do say to kill your darlings suit up montages in one game and they both feel earned where does sony find these amazing developers [Music] and the suit is the same color scheme as doc ock's arms so uh fire with fire the thing that makes this game look as good as it does is the amazing lighting i mean just look at this or the last shot between peter and may the truth is you were only ever worth a damn when you worked for me i gotta give it to him having the balls to stand up to doc ock while dangling over a building spider-man saving a possible future nemesis is he smiling because he saved him or that he's going to take down otto either way it's not a spider-man story unless the web shooters break right such a disappointment parker you knew i tried to warn you peter these two deliveries of you knew are stunning the first one being surprise and confusion but the second one being straight anger this reveal means that everything ankh has done he has knowingly done to peter which completely reframes the conversation between the two this means too much to me not more than it means to me he's not trying to be some stoic hero with that delivery he's hurt and upset removing the hood of this last fight really forces us to focus on the story and what is happening between these two characters please think of the man you were that man is gone you can't save me peter oh this variation of spider-man's theme is so good the way it works its way down instead of up with all the extra orchestration and bane makes it feel like the ending these two characters deserve with peter having no webs he's got to find something else to tie otto up with if you want to change the world you have to be the kind of man who can make the hardest decisions he says as he holds the anti-serum which is exactly what peter has to do in the end [Music] and it's not kicking him keep kicking him jokes aside sony might have fumbled spider-man once or twice but damn do they know what they're doing with the character now between the marvel movies the sony movies the crossovers and now these spider-man games i don't think there's been a better time to be a spidey fan we are being spoiled and i love it through spider-verse tom holland's take and now these games i'm a certified spotty fan easily my favorite hero spider-man ps4 is the best spider-man game there i said it it's pretty much perfect to me i feel like everything comes together in such a way to craft the most spider-man but more importantly peter parker's story we've seen outside of the comics insomniac has really cultivated something special here ensam is on record saying that their hope for this game is this to be their iron man and if that doesn't get you excited i ask that you please go and find the little kid inside of you if the mcu is anything to go by we are in for something special this console generation within sonia x games and anyone they partner with to craft their shared experience because come on that's gotta be where this is headed you don't just put avengers tower in your spider-man game unless you got plans and they got plans creative director brian intar so many times has used the phrase we've got plans with how successful spider-man and miles morales has been i don't see how they won't follow through what does any of this have directly to do with spider-man ps4 everything because it's the brilliance of this game that is going to lead us to so much more and the first brilliant thing they nailed was new york this is the best depiction of nyc i've personally seen in a video game now i'm not from there and only been there a handful of times but if the internet's testimony is to be trusted this is nyc and miniature it's not a one for one of course that'd be nuts but it's done so well i've heard that some have recalled where they were in real life new york because of their time spent in spider-man that's just amazing to me something i didn't actively think about in miles morales that i saw moments into spider-man is just how much the chrysler building really matters to the skyline of nyc happy to see it here i lied a moment ago the city is the second most brilliant thing achieved here because number one is the swinging it's the first thing that ensom work on it's the first thing that had us interact with and it's the most important part of spider-man to now and it's perfect getting lost swinging through the city is so easy and i'm not meaning geographically it can be entrancing when you get a great flow going like i said my miles video there was something therapeutic about swinging around my one gripe is i wish we had more swinging challenges those were probably my favorite side objectives forcing us to interact with the swinging systems in ways we weren't used to and having to learn new techniques was honestly give me a dlc where taskmaster is wanting to learn to web sling so he makes like 100 challenges i don't think i'm asking for much here anyway everything surrounding those two pillars is of course what makes this game as great as it is for being on the ps4 spider-man looks wonderful most games do nowadays but there's an x factor here and it's gotta be that lighting team for me the way the carefully detailed models are lit is what makes them feel so real and looks so good i have a small background with photography and believe me when i say that lighting will make or break a shot when i was trying to create a photography business i'd like to joke that i'm more of a gaffer than a photographer miles morales gave us a taste of what next gen spider-man is going to bring us but the groundwork was light here and i cannot wait to see what they bring us now before we get into the goodies of the story we gotta address the dumbest criticism levied at this game puddlegate if you wanted puddles go the [ __ ] outside i'm kidding i'm talking about people claiming that this game is an arkham clone anyone with half a brain cell knows no it's not in so many ways spider-man's inspirations are obvious and ensem isn't coy about that but let's go through it traversal is completely different combat is similar but different in very meaningful ways stealth isn't a focus here guns don't want xiaoyu this is marvel and arkham as dc traversal here is much more active as you are constantly making decisions about which technique to use to get around whereas in arkham it's just grapple high and glide combat is much more mobile think about the vulture electro boss fight that one is completely in the air on top of that gadgets play a much bigger role stealth is here and it's fine but obviously wasn't a focus the way arkham's was and the one thing that tripped me up when i first played the game was taking guns head on arkham pavlov meme into fearing guns and it's freaking spider-man how could you ever confuse that with arkham shadow of mordor though i don't know about that one when it comes to the story it doesn't get more spider-man than this we've got a broke peter too many responsibilities creating one's own villains dead ben crusher hogan everything you'd expect or want from a spider-man story is here unless you really wanted mj to die or something don't worry that'll probably be coming soon now when i said miles morales is spider-man that doesn't change the fact that peter parker is also spider-man peter parker has been there from the start we know we know his story he feels like home and playing through this story felt just like that yes we are playing an older peter but that just means we get to focus more on the toll that being spider-man takes on you instead of learning how to be him in the first place and some got to explore that story with miles and after eight years of spider-man there has been a long-form cost of it all he lost mj has gotten evicted and definitely can never get his eight hours of sleep speaking of mj i really enjoyed this fresh take on the character seems marvel is really trying to get away from the damsel in distressed trope with her which is great mj is actually really important she's the reason the cure for devil's breath is found without that bye bye new york sure her missions were a little boring but it was important to have that extra screen time with her to truly develop her i don't want to say arc but position in the story she is a springboard for peter parker to grow in this story as she's already done her changing and wants to be treated more equally by peter which he struggles with i mean spider-man protecting people is his job description and along with protecting people peter learns there's more ways to do that throughout he doesn't have to shoulder all the burden alone or at least only with the cops this is wonderfully shown in his training of miles he's ready to take off and just tell him to stay out of trouble and when miles challenges him on that front peter accepts and helps miles peter is still protecting the people of his city just in a different way teach a man to fish anyone with miles i loved his inclusion originally he didn't have such a large role in the game but decisions were made to make him more important which was obviously the right call just check out how well his game did and my video on him is doing people like miles and that isn't just because spider-verse was so awesome ensom was able to integrate two spider-men into this world and have it feel really natural which is going really well with peter's arc as i feel him becoming a mentor is the next step for him becoming a fully fledged adult which might sound silly coming from a guy two years younger than him but like come on no one really actually becomes an adult ever we just fake it till we make it so i think i have some say anyway one more character to mention and it's not lee sorry i really liked him and think he was a good mirror of peter but we all know who the big boy was and that's of course otto octavius the relationship he and peter shared throughout is perfect even better done than spider-man 2's doc doc please don't shoot me and some uses our knowledge that otto will become dog og against us having the two develop a very close bond before otto turns on pete and when he finally does turn it hurts so much more since they did the legwork to make us care this relationship is a great lesson in moving on otto can't move on from his hatred of norman and peter has to move on from trying to save octavius as he realized that you can bring a horse to water but you can't make him drink and that there are some things that are truly unforgivable i'm always for second chances but sometimes you have to really truly be honest with yourself about someone and ask do i really think they could change peter made the hard choice and decided no i mean this is an extreme case as doc ock poisoned the city and tried to kill peter but like peter says to otto on the side of the building i guess you'll have to save yourself we can only do so much for other people but if they are not willing to change they never will and i can't believe i haven't talked about this game's peter parker yet well i've talked about him but haven't given him his own section this is my favorite range of peter parker all due to how long he's been at it that might be because of the origin story fatigue brought upon the last 10 years but more likely it's because i'm not in high school anymore so an older peter appeals to me more which explains why i loved peter b and spider-verse so much enough rambling how's this peter he's awesome i love him so much even after eight years and struggling to balance everything he's still putting everyone before himself and staying as optimistic as ever and yuri lutheran wall plays this effortlessly making the most endearing and funny spider-man i've ever seen this peter parker never lets anything get him down for the most part peter almost dies twice and stands up right away and it's just like another day in the office it's not until peter parker's emotions are hit that we really see him crack the moments i'm talking about being his conversation with otto at the end and ant-may's death and even through his emotions taking over he's still able to do what's best for the people again putting them before himself which makes us love him even more and inspires us to be better i can't speak to roger clark's arthur morgan yet but damn yuri was up there to win best performance in 2018 with what he brought to spider-man and peter parker he plays the two so subtly different it's brilliant his spider-man having more confidence and more sure of himself where when he's peter you can see the more awkward human side of him that difference was something yuri just brought naturally and wasn't directed to do i'm really excited to see where they take this character as spider-man 2 will be edging his 10-year anniversary of being spider-man in new york chances are more people are gonna die but it'd be like that in spider-man stories i'm very interested how they developed his relationship with harry as any development between them in this game was handled through side content only a few mentions in the main story of how much they meant to each other this is hands down my new favorite version of spider-man and i really hope they don't kill him in the next one or at least let me get yuri to do some symbiote peter parker before you give him the axe spider-man's ps4 sits on top shelf as one of the best ps4 exclusives superhero games and games spider-man might just be in my top 10 list of best video games i've ever played it's a game i feel everyone who enjoys games should play whether they like superheroes or not if there's someone you know who hasn't played this game and likes video games it is your job to convince them to play this i cried when a nutmeg died and laughed at spider-cop otto's betrayal stung but peter thought that miles was going to whip out his willy spider-man will continue to always bring us meaningful
