there are more up there there might be oh oh give me your flashlight oh oh well that's so gross what is it a nest yeah it's all the insulation but it's bowed oh yeah all great adventures start with a parachute [Music] hello my name is jimmy welcome back to jimmy's world and this is my world and now you're in it if you're new to the channel this is my 1968 piper aztec that i bought just needs a wash and that should clean right up i bought this in pennsylvania and the reason i bought this is because as you'll see in those other videos i got the engines to run they ran more or less okay [Applause] yes nato super deep duper and i think we can get this one back in the air and make it nice again make planes great again after we go over everything with dr phil that is when i'm going to decide if this plane is going to be air worthy or junkyard worthy stay tuned for that all right so this dr phil as he's affectionately known because he's powered by dr pepper his name is phil and he's going to have an intervention on people making bad choices that's a secret power right there you've got a red card and a yellow card we're going world cup style to see if that plane if it's just going to be in the penalty box or if it's going to hit a home run all right dr phil walk us through what we found on the as truck the ass truck is looking good um we have a couple of turbos i found we may have to change the tank for the turbos uh structural it looks good the frame is good small amounts of mouse droppings inside not as bad that doesn't smell nowhere near as bad yeah it doesn't have the yellow like liquid pouring oozing out of it yeah this one's still got the quite a bit of cleanup in here we've checked the frame at the back where we talked about the a.d oh yeah you slide channels down yeah that looks good all right so so the fuselage itself is good to go fuselage is good okay and we know with the avionics and all that stuff when i was test running it i think most everything turned on and we're going to be updating a few things there putting a little sprinkle dust on it a little pixie dust on it i think even the autopilot servos engaged and stuff when i was messing with it so let's go to the wings the the really expensive part on these bad boys is the fuel bladders so we got these tanks they were inside and just from a visual inspection what are what are you thinking on these tanks these ought to be good with them staying inside their fiberglass they were not exposed to uv so other than the yeah they're pretty rusty right there a little bit of rust there new gaskets on the on the wing clean that up wipe it down with an oiled rag we should be good uh the quality probes are probably yeah 50 50 on that but they're not bad sending units i've got a little bit of experience with sending sandpipers and the bladders so we got the one here and another one over there we had a receipt in the stack of paperwork from 92 right yep well they were done yeah repaired reinstalled they look good i don't know if you can see in there the rubber doesn't look all dry they turn uh a whitish color when they go bad so that part's encouraging i don't think we're going to have any issues there the rest of the wing looks good we've got uh stuff like this hey that's that's our speed mods that's our anti-keep freeloaders out tape the biggest thing the wings need is tlc much like the rest of the airframe yeah and a lot of this hardware is going to need to get checked and cleaned and yeah we'll replace the vast majority of the hardware on the flight controls i think there's an ad on the flaps that we've got to check out minor ad one time thing so that looks good landing gears anything any major very good seeing how they're still holding pressure yeah that was kind of amazing all right now we get to the expensive uh money to noise converters okay this is the part that i fear the most on this because each one of these is about 30 grand not including about 10 grand for the prop the plugs were black but they weren't eroded to show any damage there the other thing we did we took out the oil filler neck and run a bore scope down in there too let me see if i get a flashlight on it and i'll put you can see the borescope video here this is why i call you doctor because this is the other part of the day here we're gonna have to turn our head and cough colonoscopies for cheap let me see if i guess right oh yeah there we go see that look at that so that's the cam that's one of the cam loads right there itself okay and then if i can get to that and we were looking at the we're looking at the bottom of the tablet right there which that one looked pretty clean a little bit of yeah almost a mirror reflection on it see that mm-hmm okay very little bit of pudding nothing to that sweat all right and then nothing about 50 hours won't wear off that's but you can see there the cam lobe itself looks great yeah and then the other one yeah the inside of this engine is cleaner than the cherokee yeah i've like said i've seen engines that were flown regulars that weren't this nice this one's a definite candidate to fire it up and run it if the other one is like this if the other engine looks this good you just saved yourself 60 000 on two engine overhauls super deep duper what's the story with the props did we confirm that those are the original propellers from 1968 we did this is the first time i've ever seen it the engines are consecutive serial numbers 98 and 99. the propellers are consecutive serial numbers and the prop governors are consecutive serial numbers i haven't ever in my life seen that before and for an aircraft this old to make it this long with the same components we believe with a fairly high level of certainty that the total hours on the airframe even though it doesn't look like it is just 3200 thereabouts and the total time on this engine according to the logbooks that we can find is right at it was at 1620 according to the note that we found and that was in 1977 here that says these engines were taken out in uh around the hours that we're on the last date of entry of these log books to be rebuilt but we can't find a receipt we can't find anything else so i'm thinking there's another set of engine log books for the engines that we pulled out they're the same serial number and everything but they just don't have the overhaul so i don't know if they started a new log book with the overhaul or what the heck happened with those but it's just a note which means it's pretty much garbage we can't go by that also i found avionics repairs and all kinds of other engine tags and turbos and fuel cells and all kinds of things that were done to this aircraft uh but are not in those logbooks fantastic unless we can find the log books for the the newer ones if there's new entries from this one being flown for the 300 hours give or take that are missing from the log books from 77 until today which by the way that's 45 years dang that's 45 years and it's only been 300 hours assuming that we're moving forward with this project the plan is is to do an iran on it to look everything over just to make sure of what it is that it works that it's safe that it's in good condition and we've even talked about having it rebuilt so that we can just start with new log log books and having a zero since major overhaul engine having it rebuilt they're propellers on this one is this gonna be a death trap for us on this one no we're actually quite fortunate on these these are a very common model a lot of twin-engine aircraft and of course a lot of singles use this very same prop they're all over the place uh new overhaul get them out of salvage yards so they're they're just everywhere still maintained easily and not a huge money drain to get them looked at and get them squared away i like that any major ads on this thing for like the heater the turbos the wingspar do we got any major gotcha money traps that were we're looking at possibly don't seem to have i've got the ad report and went through what a little bit i could find in the log books it's it's looking real good there's one on the turbo oil tank i mentioned earlier okay we may have to replace those other than that the turbos are good airframe has got some recurring aeds but nothing earth's shaking and uh the only thing we really have to do is go back to the last 25 years of ads for all the components yeah and then anything beyond that we should be good and these probably have selector valve fuel type 80s as part of it i haven't loaded those in but it may have some yes yeah okay did this one or is this one going to pass the inspection so that we can go what's the what's the card we got lucky on this one i think this one's going to be a go i think that's going to be one we can get her flying and not have to eat beans and wieners for a month or a lot longer than that if you're the guy writing the checks i have to tell the faa i am building this airplane from scrap parts because the guy that bought it he sold it to the guy that had it and it was a whole mess up deal whether some paperwork that may or may not have should have been filed that was not or should have and he said okay well i'm just going to send the paperwork in telling the faa that i scrapped and parted out the airplane well as you saw in the last video it was not really all that apart however the faa now thinks that this thing has been taken apart so i just went ahead and took it apart for him but in order to get it put back together and to get an air worthiness certificate reissued i've got to put this thing all back together get it all up to date and basically put it in annual with all the ads and other requirements and then have an inspector from the faa come out look it over and say yep that's an airplane and it's the whole thing so just in paperwork i'm just in the faa side of paperwork i'm gonna guesstimate somewhere around six months is what it's going to take to get all that done adventures start with a [Music] make sure it parachute latched [Music] and your airborne [Applause] [Music] yep it feels nice to be back in the air no better okay ah [Music] nailed it all right we'll walk around let's what's wrong with this one you have never seen more mouse poop than you're about to see here i'll walk around a little bit this is what we knew was going to be a couple of issues one is definitely all the mouse poop and stuff it's super nasty and there's a corrosion under under that because the mouse p ate into it oh my gosh it stinks in there so we've still got some loose stuff in here uh stuff used for packing i'm assuming yeah and uh a couple of ink pans floor plates so we still have to get the horse cleared and i haven't seen behind here yet everything that's not covered in mouse droppings looks pretty good dusty dirty but not bad good lord could you imagine trying to figure out where the heck all those things attached and connected yeah oh hey hey we got stuff inside here whoa look at that flashlight oh wait here we go we got a flight log of some sort maybe this will tell us something when does it end 78 82. there it is 23 30 was the last entry is that a mouse that is a mouse yeah i see the two hey look at that we caught one that one's from 1984. yeah you've been there a while there more up there there might be oh oh give me your flashlight oh oh well that's so gross what is it a nest yeah it's all the insulation but it's bowed oh yeah yeah that's why i was asking about the mice traps earlier you set some my straps in case they decide to immigrate uh-huh well they got an election to do in pennsylvania they need to go vote yeah the other deal is the avionics some of those work some don't and it's going to need a u.s usb 80sb and that's that's not that big of a deal but that is still something we got to consider the fuel pump on one of these tanks i can't remember which one it was the fuel pump was not working so that's gonna need that and because there's only like six of these still in existence they're made of unobtainium but the biggest thing is not any of this the biggest thing is back here and it's got twins yeah the seats those things other than soaked with mouse urine it's not in too bad of shape even the exhaust where the engine exhaust goes through here goes in there there was a problem or an 80 and or something inspection about corrosion build up in here and those are those are pretty clean now this is the wing that was replaced whenever it was an accident in 82 right before it was parked in the hangar in 84 so it never even had time to corrode let's talk about these bad boys right here let's see this has a date see if i can zoom in so you can see it 329.82 and if you notice brand new there's no nicks there's no anything look at the leading edge on this one i mean the paint doesn't even look like it's chipped which is awesome but what do we find ads and service bulletins one ad for service bulletin the hub has to be modified and once you do all that you still have to inspect the blades requires disassembly every either 100 hours every 500 hours to make sure that the blades aren't going to just fall out and the kicker to that is have we been able to find a prop shop that will even do the inspection yeah nobody wants to touch these with a 10 foot pole no prop shop will even do the inspection and how much is it to replace it new a new new props for this are just under 30 000 once you add in all the shipping and all that stuff it's 30 grand for new props and you say well just go with used aha we found some used for four thousand each plus shipping of a thousand bucks so that's eight nine thousand those are not overhauled so they don't have the log books and stuff to be able to go on here so that's another thirty five hundred dollars each so now we're up to eighteen seventeen eighteen thousand bucks when you add in the shipping and everything just for used propellers for this sucker and the airplane like i said before it's only worth 50 grand 60 grand on a really good day and these engines what i did learn after going through the log books and everything the engines that part of them has right out of thousand hours on those the jugs all the cylinders those are new on all 12 of those are all new in 1984 no 82 after it was just after the guy wrecked it he got everything all done and never flew it again if there was a flight i think it was just one test flight and then after that it just parked in that shed where we found it we've got these which are not normal magnetos they're some weird thing and how much did you say they were 2 700 bucks each for the replacements so 2700 each and there's one two three four so there's 5 10 11 roughly just random stuff like the hoses and all that stuff we're looking at budgeting another 10 grand give or take for for all that stuff and then i still got to pay his bill that's tough that is really tough and on the on the used ones that's if we can find them that are overhaulable if that's even a word i'm making stuff up now ah so i bought this thing and then i spent a whole bunch of money taking it apart and shipping it 1100 miles to florida for us to not be able to do this project not in a cost-efficient manner that is a bummer i secretly think it's because he doesn't want to clean up all that mouth poop oh yeah let's look through these comments here save the 310 save the 310 the 310 of all of them should be saved oh my goodness everybody is saying save the 310 except my bank account that that is insane those props are 30 000 way over budget that i was not prepared for and willing to do i don't know where i'm going to come up with that kind of money i mean i could ask people to buy some t-shirts and stickers down below i could set up this patreon account thing that a lot of these other face tubers use but nobody would be that crazy if there's anybody that knows how to extort money from people it's this guy yeah hi can i speak to pastor jim please thanks pastor jim how are you yes yes many blessings to you as well i need your help we need to do a fundraising for an airplane oh you've got a lot of experience buying private jets with other people's money okay all right excellent you're the right guy to call [Music]
