[Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] do [Music] sorry i can't leave it there hey guys welcome to that telnet show dan here nick here hello that doesn't sound awful oh man it's awesome yeah we've got some rubbishy old pedals today a couple of crappy old amps we found and a skip um and the pros the point of today's show we've been asked for this a lot please can you go through all the guitars you have yes brace yourselves so before we do that because it's going to be pretty quick fire how many guitars we've got simon you counted them 33. there's 33 guitars in this room today yeah so 31 guitars and two big guitars which you know it's embarrassing it's overblown but i'm i'm not embarrassed it's amazing what you pick up over i've just taken a photo of the cases 30 years of a guitar obsession and to be fair you know it's nothing compared to actual proper guitar collectors and sure people are really into this stuff so let's start with the downside stan what other guitars have you got that aren't here uh a couple of acoustics i've got a jazz guitar at home uh classical guitar um we haven't we haven't included any acoustics today maybe that's a show for some other time so these are all our electric guitars the only one that you haven't brought is your jazz box my jazz box everything that i own is here apart from my old strat which doesn't have a neck on it and is therefore unplayable okay valid valid valid right let's go where should we start we'll do it by groups yeah so what's the first group going to be telli's tellys let's do telly then um okay you most of you will know this how i know this is red this is a custom shop uh 63 um nos i've made in about 2 000. so [Music] [Applause] [Music] time [Music] that be red that'd be red next okay this is a 1965 a real one um it has pickups actually rewound pickups from an older telly in there the original fan is but they've been rewound but yes 1965 [Music] uh [Music] i only own one telly and the reason i only own one telly is because of him i would have more tallies this is a highway one texas telecaster from about 2004-ish i think it's really heavy it doesn't sound great uh i think it does sound good it sounds better with gain i think anyway in the bridge which made it much better is a bare knuckle 52 flat pole oh cool and in the neck is a tv jones filter tron okay so and i have it tuned down [Music] [Applause] so [Music] do [Music] [Music] sounds great i love the down tune thing yeah that's it it improves it butters okay butters uh this is a custom shop 1952 heavy relic [Music] [Music] uh [Music] uh okay looks similar but very different gnl asat classic um which we don't play as much as we should i was a big fan of asap in my younger days and this is one of the deluxe series from fullerton not one of the offshore ones okay [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay this is my grey guitars t-style guitar um i bought it primarily to do the synth thing but it's got a lot of pickups in this really interesting four position switch so the last position puts the um the pickups in uh series so this is the neck on the side [Music] [Music] [Music] very cool one day we'll hear it again with the gr55 yes yes one more t-style guitar was made for us by a guy called carl longbottom oh yes we'll play that one yeah i do i do um carl is a joiner a carpenter and he doesn't really make guitars he makes guitars for himself and he knocked up these two guitars you'll hear the ester style one in a bit um it's got a english ash hollowed out body around the kind of up and low abouts and then through the middle it's got a solid mahogany center section it's really [Music] interesting [Music] ee [Music] 10 [Music] we need to come back to these guitars that's a very interesting set of experiences for me okay right hollow bodies should we do hollow bodies yes yes yes i believe that's all everything that vaguely tea style isn't it i believe so yes right hollow bodies i'll kick off the hollow bodies okay uh with this one since it's right here gretch g 54 22 g maybe electromatic don't look at me 54 22 tg okay i think maybe t means tremolo i don't know g means guitar uh jimmy's gold okay there you go the gold heart [Music] one thing about this guitar is it's really quiet okay yeah that's really way too quiet [Music] so [Music] [Music] yes the one thing about gretch guitar is that most people but most people who integrated guitars know they rock like no one else's business i deliberately didn't play any finger picky stuff right okay this is a 61-18 anniversary players edition [Music] [Music] yes [Music] [Applause] absolutely epic there's ace isn't it it is um we should say that some of these guitars don't get played very much which is criminal i know but also they do once if you play guitar a lot it seems to stay in tune and want to be in tune for you yeah if you don't play it they're like i'm not doing this for you today yeah you need to show me a bit more love sure yeah right and i do need to show to some more love it sounds amazing right this is the epiphone casino i bought for the budget guitar challenge and it cost me 290 quid or 270 quid on ebay i think um it's getting new pickups and it's getting a new finish i cannot wait to see because these pickups are pretty microphonic as we may be about to find out [Music] so that is microphonic pickups yes you'll notice we had that combination of pedals on for the other guitars no problem none of that so it's getting new pickups um and a new finish lovely yep okay uh let's the next most hollow guitar we've got careful careful careful careful is this my 2017 gibson memphis es 335 1958 with no binding okay so these are hollow bodies and that's semi-hello is that right yeah so the three the 335 has a center block all the way through the middle for anyone who doesn't know that the casino which was based on the gibson es 330 was completely hollow okay it currently has the memphis historical spec uh mhs paf style humbuckers it is getting ron ellis humbuckers very soon fancy fancy [Music] oh [Music] you [Music] [Music] [Music] wow yeah that's such a great guitar yeah that's such a great guitar this is a gretch 6228 players edition with broadtown pickups and it's chambered so we're gonna get less hollow yep um so yes it's still air in there in the cavity but there's no f holes [Music] be [Music] so [Music] do [Music] [Music] that sounds unbelievably good we have a contender what a fantastic sound isn't it magic yeah really just in all honesty the i the les paul has got that real les paul sound but this is probably guitar i'm going to take to gigs we're gonna we're gonna wind our way into um les paul derive things in a minute but you're seeing as that's a um not absolutely everyday single cut let's go to another slightly not everyday single cut and you've got another one of those i do i do so this is a collings 360 lt lt for level top oh wow and it's got gold foils made by jason lolla right i'm just going to take this off because i keep hitting my thumb on it um i was using this guitar for my song oh cool fancy capo yeah that's the page capo um the dear joey uses honk right calling 360 rt [Music] [Music] um [Music] foreign [Music] has all the sounds the the the frequency range and that thing is crazy yeah these can get a little bit compressy right but um you know you think it's kinda less poorly because it looks in that way but it's closer to teleworld right in many respects sure such a cool guitar amazing on the subject of cool guitars okay the nick huber uh krausta ii so i've changed out the original pickup for p90 i'm still searching for the right pickups for this guitar the the p90 in the next um nice but i think there are some better suites to pick up for this guitar but it is an absolutely beautiful [Music] instruments [Music] [Music] big [Music] so [Music] um [Music] ah [Music] uh sorry i turned the clone off because i think that guitar's got that 1k on the nose yeah yeah naturally which the clone then exacerbates and it sure abs it's so the mid focus in that guitar is extraordinary it is it is the only thing i put on more for the the neck position yeah but yeah as soon as you get to the bridge it really doesn't need that honks yeah it's wonderful gets you heard in a mix okay um let's we're sort of theme thematically i'm picking up from the uh gold foil pickup which this has yes sort of staying with sort of single cut okay and then maybe from here we can venture into p90 world off the back of that yeah like it like so um this is a super james port that i bought from anderson's as it goes they were knocking them out cheap because i think it was a discontinued model it's gold therefore it is cool or you might say copper um and i never play slide but if i did i'd play it on this guitar so i think this is tuned down again yeah it's tuned down like at least a whole step yep but in standard tuning [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] um [Music] do [Music] oh man it's just i don't know wow what a cool guitar uh that sounds like something that's um the guy from the queens of the stone age what's his name josh homie josh homie holmes that's something that he would use yeah and uh other uh not exactly the same but john spencer blues explosion dan our back that's those are the kind of things i think about when i pick this guitar up okay this is a 1961 les paul jr single p90 what is it you say hello ladies hello ladies [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] hey [Music] [Applause] we've said it before that is probably the best sounding guitar in this room if you had to pick one yeah it's it's it's the last guitar that would go in this thing it's just it is magical 61 uh les paul jr called les paul for those of you don't know uh after that they changed the shape and then the next year it was called sg okay um based inspired by the guitar that came before that the let's double cut les paul jr is this collings 290 um d c double cut away s single pickup with a lolla p90 oh down [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so um [Music] me [Music] we'll need to do a song where in the live thing where we pull out both of these yeah what absolutely cracking thing simple slab mahogany body super simple bridge p90 pickup i mean obviously you can't get floaty neck pickup tones but after that pretty much every tone under the sun aren't they yeah they're chameleons these things yeah they really are okay when you showed me that volume thing and the acoustic guitar thing blew my mind should we stick with p90s okay have you got anything else with p90s um what do i have a p9 is no not a sausage i'm done you're done with the p90 okay i've got one more p90 guitar okay this is a 2002 prs mccarty soap bar which i recently did a vlog on and swapped the original seymour duncan p90s out for lolla p90s turned from the ugly duckling into a beautiful swan [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] and [Music] new pickups transformed it this machine it just sounds spectacular sounds a lot better yeah man it really does beautiful cool okay so this is um an r8 from was it the gibson custom shop yeah it's a gibson custom 1958 les paul standard yes otherwise known as r8 for reissue 58 yeah from about 2 000 i don't know i think this is too i think this is from 2000 yeah um yeah okay [Music] [Music] hmm [Music] [Music] do [Music] it's a good one i still thought you were going to go oh man on the side yeah okay okay this is my most les paul like guitar even though there's one down there that's uh a little bit more body shape wise tonally i got this prs dgt model uh a because i love david grissom i think he is just an awesome musician and guitar player and i love his tones um and also because uh i had less paws and i find them ergonomically difficult so this gives me somewhere close to that right but it definitely has a thing of its own it has a sound all its own as guitar and he loves it [Music] so [Music] [Music] uh [Music] hey [Music] [Music] you heard me getting lost in coil tap mode there i don't really know what to do with the quilt up but i thought i'd play some chords and uh it thins the guitar out so much uh and then back into throaty full-on yeah wonderful cool such a great guitar okay where do we go from here okay we should round out the prs guitars okay you've got three prs guitars yeah oh yes of course this doesn't belong to me this is on loan from prs it's a long-term loaner to us it's an s2 single cut standard right from 2018 which means it's uh just a mahogany body no maple cap two humbuckers pretty straightforward guitar the thing that always confuses me is that the controls are the logical way around i.e the bridge controls are back there okay net controls are there which is the opposite way around that it is on a gibson so uh excuse me that's the volume that's the tone okay [Music] now [Music] [Applause] uh [Music] um [Music] team [Music] now [Music] it's got a more modern voice yeah than the dgt it's got less throaty mid right more presence i would say a better guitar for you know come forward from les pauls into rock that emerged in the 80s and 90s i think it's better for that kind okay yeah yeah oh cool yeah right simple guitar i've got one more humbucker guitar so in 1989 oh nicely anyway i had this guitar the proper one um desert yellow i called it so this is the gem junior yeah so this is the cost-effective gem it was about at the time of purchase it was about four 450 quid or something so [Music] [Music] stop right there there is something about the in-between sounds of those guitars that doesn't exist in any other guitar yeah it almost sounds like there's a piezo on yeah it's crazy really cool yeah yeah [Music] [Music] do [Music] ah [Applause] hey [Music] actually sounds great [Music] hey [Music] [Music] i can't help it i literally cannot help myself it's not bad you made a better stab at it than i would well um it actually sounds pretty decent that guitar yeah i wonder if we should put some different pickups in it and just see but it's i don't know about you i find a flat neck the neck is so hard to play yeah yeah different neck um a different body yeah um and for anyone who's into this style of guitar by the way it's only because we're not familiar with it yeah we're just yeah it's very hard guitar to play if you're into old strats and telly's and stuff the weird thing is that i've steve i did this vlog recently where he's playing a a strat an s-style guitar yep and he's like he's like i find these guitars really really hard to play yeah yeah and you know of course but he sounded awesome but anyway yes okay it's cool it's fun it's a lot of fun from the sublime to the ridiculous this is a yamaha pacifica 112 i think which for a bit of fun in guitarist magazine back in the day we each got a new pacifica and we modded it right so i obviously um changed the finish a little bit it got it caught a bit much there so there is actually a hole in it is that lighter fluid uh yeah light fluid just set fire to it in it yeah whatever um put a left-handed tremolo in it like stevie ray vaughan and uh some seymour duncan p rails pickups which i have literally no idea if this guitar works or not when is the case after that feature and it's never been plugged in against wow the green smells really smoky the p rose is interesting you got p90 and a rail from a humbucker i think this switch controls it i literally it'll be the biggest if it works anti-climax if it doesn't work [Music] so [Music] do [Music] i should also mention that the neck pickup isn't actually attached so there might be some interesting height variance sounds guess sounds [Music] so [Music] so [Music] sounds totally fine yep one of the things i didn't know when i modded it was that this bridge was wider than the old one that went in there oh okay so it says fit stiff enough that the top string barely stays on there right so tell you what though perfectly serviceable usable reasonable sounds i when i had my gem i actually sold it to get a top of the line pacifica yeah i had a michael lee firkins album that i had i loved and was playing pacifica and yeah so i got you know all singing all dancing pacifica back in the very early 90s it was the best-selling budget guitar for years and years and years and years for a really really really good reason yeah great so i apologize that i've completely mullered it but um yeah nice very cool pretty good to me right where do we go from here um i guess we are now into s world aren't we we are we are we're into s world your world i'm gonna start it doesn't deserve a stand i'm going to start with one of carl longbottom's other guitars okay so you if you stayed with us this long you'll remember the t star guitar that dan played earlier this one is constructed in the same fashion so it has english ash kind of back which is carved out and then a mahogany center section that's so cool yep i think it might be a wilkinson p90 and chris buck id oh wow uh yeah radio shot uh wilkinson hardware nitro finishes he's done nitro finishes and a really nice big neck yeah so um yeah [Music] do [Music] so [Music] so [Music] foreign [Music] do foreign [Music] [Laughter] sounds great really great tell you what i went for there what i was enjoying chris uh chris's id yep radio shot pickups are uh i don't want to use a pejorative term they're super underwater they feel like they're underwhelmed they're really clear and those in between positions are so strategy yeah for whatever for one of a better word so i was just trying to go for that and then i was thinking about um those sort of sounds always remind me a little bit of 80s so i put the chorus on a bit okay really lovely tell you what i don't think i've ever seriously played a p90 in the bridge position of an style guitar before right really works well because you just get a bit more girth very cool very cool very cool and let's remind ourselves that he's not a guitar maker yeah he's a joiner yeah carl longbottom thank you carl okay this is my eob signature stretch the onus fellaion um we haven't honked anyone today we haven't hacked anything this is ed o'brien from radiohead yes he was on the show i watched that yesterday did you ed came in and we chatted to him for ages and it was an existential moment for both of us particularly me because dan had met him before but yeah i watched it yesterday it's a really great show yeah yeah he he's amazing uh and one of the things that he has built in this guitar is a sustainer and this is you know this is how i use it so you've got a switch here [Music] standard strat sound turn that on and then you get [Music] so hmm [Music] now that's how i use it it's just totally awesome let me hear the throat of that bridge humbucker [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] really cool not too crazy about humbucker no it stays nice and clear and lovely it's the jeff peck humbucker that's not it might be called a jb but jb sorry not jeff beck yeah okay or it might be the little 59 is it or is it a jb okay there you go dan's made a video on this guitar go and watch it really cool okay strats then we do have quite a lot of strats shall we start with i'll start with a crazy one all right shall i yes please um regulars of regular viewers will know that my favorite guitar is the fender strat so i've got a few this is one um that was very kindly loaned to me is very kindly known to me by a guy named simon green it is a 61 it's original it's had a body refinish and a neck over spray other than that everything is original apart from one pot so it is a 961 strat refinish yeah [Music] [Music] hmm [Music] [Music] [Music] bye [Music] [Music] [Music] hey [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] hmm far out i do like this guitar so you know the thing about that guitar is that extended play the the the pickups it doesn't seem to have a limit yep to how hard like you play it really quiet and it's beautiful and crisp and then you start digging harder and it just gets louder and louder and louder and louder it is nuts well we had both sides of the gladio the king of tone and the clone on ah the fuzz is like a zonk machine type thing so it does get a bit spittier but yeah okay i'll whip through the rest of them pretty quick okay blue is the uh year 2000 2001 maybe american vintage 62 strat that's been much modified now has ron ellis 50 60 pickups in it so i'll get this what i'll do i think for the strats i'll get one sound up and just whip through them okay yeah sure well let's put up but let's have a good go with this one because we want to hear that in comparison to the the other one [Music] okay [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] do [Music] um [Applause] okay [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey [Music] so [Music] so [Music] floyd boy 2008 john mayer's signature stratocaster with john mayer big dipper pickups [Music] [Laughter] [Music] so [Music] [Music] oh they're gonna play the lick it could happen to you american vintage 59 strat with custom shop fat 60s pickups bought this one used this one's got nines on it okay because we did it for a video the other day so this will sound a bit a little bit different this is this is transit fan this is transit van [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] getting a bit loud mate it is it's amazing how different they sound this is the strategies of the lot yeah yeah is that got nines on it yeah i think that's part of the part of it finally um fender 60s reverse headstock strat from ensenada mexico don't know when 2000 mid-2000s [Music] so it does bear a striking resemblance to the jimmy hendrix woodstock stratocaster i think it was called anyway it's not that uh i don't know why it's not that but it's not it did have the reverse tram pickup as well did it yeah okay i don't know 30 years of looking at strats i can't look at that so i put these in these are fender ancho poblano pickups yeah yeah [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] i just realized how badly the tram is sticking right it's a great sounding guitar yeah it does sound good those ancho poblanos are really nice pickups i'm just i'm really surprised how different they all sound they shouldn't be they do and there'll be people out there go wow your blue one sounds the worst by a mile but it's just different days for different things and different moods and that's why i love strats so much they go that's all my strats all the strats okay well sticking with the fender thing yep um shall we do some offsets yes okay american original american original fender jag [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Laughter] [Music] you [Applause] [Music] [Music] sounds awesome really does sound good sounds good i'm i find this guitar really hard yeah you haven't bonded with what does it need then a setup it needs the the neck is really like clacky yeah i don't like the binding i don't know it just it just yeah maybe i just need to spend some time with it maybe get a setup but yeah every time you play it you put it straight back down don't you yeah which is nothing it's not saying anything about that that yeah model of guitar it's just saying that that particular one dan just hasn't bonded with it yeah which is totally you know that does sound great it does sound great however this thing yep so this is the next series down from that this was the um ensenada mexican made classic series jazzmaster lacquer i don't think they make it anymore but right because the classic series has been replaced by ventera but this is the classic series it's lovely and lightweight it's a nitrocellulose finish um you know such that they can do it these days uh and yeah jazzmaster [Music] [Applause] so [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] so [Music] and [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] bye [Music] [Music] hey [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] such a great guitar standard pickup standard part standard everything we didn't mod it um just totally different headspace than strats for me yeah it's really lovely really cool did you write that song on that uh no just it's just suited yeah it's lovely yeah yeah well maybe i should play it on this one cool man look at that finish it's serious look at that finish sinking into the grain which you know you might think is the worst thing that could happen to a finish but that is utterly gorgeous it's banging right so this is my grey guitars skipper um i when we got the offsets and mick had the jazz master and it sounded so good and i just i really wanted to bond with the jaguar but i just didn't and then i saw this and i had a play and it just was awesome [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] do [Music] [Music] so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] anyways [Music] it's just awesome sounds way fuller than the jazz master yeah it does it's like so um you know the p90 um i'm pretty sure there's a radio shot p90s as well sorry not p90s the jazz jazz master type pickups but i i bonded with this guitar within seconds yeah that you know mastery bridge makes a big difference not only that so just a quick detail on this see how that bridge is actually routed into the body it sits just a millimeter lower and it just gives a different break angle over the bridge here it's magic i i love it so everything i'm doing offset i'm doing on this it's just great right quick idiot check then um yeah good check got both of our idiots right done that guitar don't like because i've done that guitar i've done that guitar done all those guitars yep there's only one thing left for it dan oh yeah two guitars left that we have right we have we own two bases we do actually we own one base i own one base um do you like the mute it looks good to me i use the mute for recording that's great this is a lakeland something or other um it's a really awesome semi acoustic bass that has flat wounds on it oh wow [Music] which i really like um and that is do you know what it is it's a p bass yeah it's a player series fender precision bass our two big guitars big guitars right um right guys thank you so much for watching really appreciate it massive thank you to our preferred retailers in the uk and europe is anderson's music of
