is also known for being the one time home of naturalist and painter John James Audubon as well as notorious mobster bugs Moran we're going to drop in on Abbas Music Store where I got my first electric guitar at the age of 13 Abbas has been owned and operated by Chris Kroger since 1990 and in fact I was one of this stores first customers Abbas has always been the kind of place where it's been stacked with vintage and unusual gear so you never know what you're gonna find in here so let's check it out right away walking in the store there's a marshall jcm 900 and some kind of fender not sure why past them again this is kind of place you can find just about anything and everything I mean he deals in a lot of use stuff I mean he's a dealer for some lines like major lines like Peavy and Taylor and things like that but he also deals in a lot of used gear so that you know you just never know what you're gonna get from from week to week walking into here it looks like today he's got a lot of his a lot of his PV stuff and more modern stuff out [Music] there's a lefty strat you don't see too many lefties [Music] right away that Martin right there caught my eye that's a from the 1940s it's like an eight style mandolin those are pretty good sound a little at mandolins had a big crack on the top there [Music] there's an old case right there on the floor that caught my eye that actually belonged to a customer though I asked about it later a couple of PV Wolfgang's and here are all the tailors this is all the new acoustics back here the better stuff that's a Larrivee also I guess he got that on trade a lot of nice acoustics but you'll see what I mean here you just never know what you're gonna find and right away peeking out behind that little acoustic amp right there I couldn't resist finding out what was in that case and it turned out to be a mother of toilet seat Valco lap steel this one had a serial number of X something or other which placed it in the 1950s those tuners right there are all original it looks all original to me sometimes the mother of toilet seat covering on these can shrink and crack up but this one didn't have any signs of that so that's good original case too [Music] you know how I like my straps I had to check out the straps see if there were any old ones hang in there for some reason this speaker kind of caught my attention because it I thought at first it was a JBL but it wasn't I think it's a it's the thing it's in well it might be a PV but I thought maybe it was an imminence as well and then of course that case right beside it [Music] and right away I already know that that's either a harmony or a K and yes indeed it is a K probably from the mid 60s about 1964 or 65 ish cool guitars single pickup real fun to play because of the scale length and everything and good tone [Music] a couple things are drawing my attention there you could see there's a super reverb blackface and there's a twin down there silver face twin stacked on top of one another and you could you can look it's like you know he's got all this stuff piled in front of it it's almost like a treasure hunt and then this little Khan was also attracting my attention that's a strobo tuner I've owned a few of these in the past I've actually got a strobe a strobe tuner now as well but these are really cool I think these were made in the 50s through the early 60s and this one has all of the original accouterments including the microphone and this one's also tube as you can see there [Music] just all kinds of things to look at in this store he's got a Paul Reed Smith they're up in a case and I was kind of drawn to that that HAARP display cool thing this is also where I bought my Charvel 750 XL around 1991 or so I think it had been hanging in this store for a little while before I finally bought it and it was hanging right up there but where those guitars are today another old case back there can't help but wonder what's in that it's in this old acoustic case back here Steve is that store stock or it looks Oh harmony or something in there there's another cool little old craftsman right there that's also K made it's kind of like the other one we just saw I want to apologize also for the audio I was using a camera I don't usually use with onboard microphone it was just pretty bad that's an older guitar isn't it you've just been stripped or something with has it no I guess that original oh it's had some repair that is that what's back there it was at Radian Oh [Music] I don't know I hate to say it but it's probably best to sell that separately interesting interesting yeah there's way interesting tuning keys I've never seen Grover's like that what do they got like two together and then two together and then one on the ends it's a whole plain case the whole thing yep Wow you see though I've never seen a set of Grover's like that ever look at that Grover USA Lance a new Porter where's that 330 this is a 330s of 2012 model okay what's a reissued you got a price 234 still good looking good looking at our yeah yeah yeah I know they are 212 right yeah that thing will rock as I was it was a kind of who knows who knows but it's got a Kaler [Music] but that Kayla right that's an original Kayla I think that these were lights in here too LED lights yeah everything lit up showing him what hiccups yet selected or whatever problem battery fort and he's got a prototype number one and something's written in here like all these little notes about what he did to it or whatever when it finished it's a different set of tuners on it it's completely refinished and he's done this like a strat style with a Kaler just weird my own tone and tone and you just made it basically like a strat you paid out its the strap so we got here and then these two and then that's not one of these two uh-huh yeah but it was what I was remarkable to me is the fretboard looks like an actual it really does look like an actual Gibson Custom fretboard like he almost stole it off of her a custom maybe something with a busted headstock or something you know taking the overlay off might be a Gibson neck and I mean you can't ever tell yeah it could be but he but he he he he also carved it on the heel - you can something you see without scar from the heel if it was it Gibson you know would have been chunkier right in here but right he's carving looks but they like strat saying yeah yeah that's just a it's a monstrosity in it there's one of those switch guitars you can't just walk into a guitar Center and see this crap you have to go out of your way and find a place like this by Brazil I think they made these in Korea around the 90s and that you know they were they start they deduct amount pretty decent and Rovers and stuff and they have their own think that's our guess but just a strange guitar strange body shape and you and I think there's some cuts again it's some kind of molded stuff plexiglass or resin maybe resin I believe [Music] this is Chris Kroger he is the owner operator and has been one since 1998 90 I think I was one of your first customers yes sir yeah so I bought my first first guitar from him I think it was a Dixon and let's see you gave me lessons prob about two months something like that I think I took maybe like eight let eight to ten lessons off oh good thing I knew about that me started yeah so every time I come in to Henderson I try to stop in the store just to see what unusual stuff he's got and you can see here he definitely has a couple little unusual things out on the floor like that little KMD amplifier right down there he's also got a Hohner amplifier and who knew they even made amplifiers also right above that there's a Garnett and one of the viewers on my channel was asking me if I knew about Garnett's the other day I can't remember who it was there's a vibrant champ that blackface super it's a blackface soon as I got the original speakers and everything JP Lansing speakers which appear to be errors and all as well go clusters are placed which is not a huge deal I think it is cuz it's got its got the blue stripe that you would have seen that until the silver face so somebody replaced the cloth yeah but see again you know you come into a place most places would have that like front and center when you walked in it would be like oh you know and everything but you got a pile behind stuff and it's like you have to search for it I love that it's so cool do you have an amp room one thing I was gonna ask you about was this is this a it's not a temple is it just a 12-string mandolin was it got like another core or three per course I'll be damned actually my grandfather used to play that in his background he did pull back uh-huh does anybody now make a mandolin like that three per course no I've had three or four of those through here over the years and I've never seen one in any other area I've never used you built a few guitars my sister's forever but when Taylor came out with the v-class guitar be brace you beat them too mighty you beat them to it yeah sorry so instead of having an X bracing like you know traditional dreadknots yeah there's the V going this way Oh interesting now in Taylor they do some stuff this way but online I put two V's so what's the theory there that you're getting so the V ends here on the bracelet yeah one B goes like this okay straight like that and that's like backwards that's like a backwards arch top or something yeah yeah and but I put the V going this way as well on this this was punished by my nephew and his mother and all for a lot of years yeah dog food finger board Spanish cedar top this mahogany and a little trim and walnut [Music] this is the real deal this is what good music stores look like in the back but yeah I'll just I mean let's see this is guys this is uh this is what it's all about right here that see that's definitely not like from the 20s for the teens maybe even earlier than that sorry I'll see what we got here old Jackson uh-huh is that one of the oversize under sized interesting okay that sharp the Sharpeville 750 XL has been on my channel a few times I also bought that guitar here and it had probably been hanging here for forever before I bought it - Wow they've been here for a little while but uh but yeah I've loved that guitar you know that was quite a for you to get that guitar as it was I wouldn't have learned that I don't think that's quickly if I hadn't gotten something that I could rap you know good guitars make a difference oh my gosh whose magnet own that's yours it might just be mine but see for everybody who gets on to me about the state of my bench look look here this is what real workers benches look like and see that ampeg their little cool little bass amp but yeah this thing Zach Z a que Zach what the hell it's tube made in Canada Zach models at d 15 t are so interestingly zack amps were also made by Garnett they were made in Canada and they made a whole bunch of these with all different names and they call these the stencil series are you into it good is that something you can what's a bass amp I get I'm guessing it's got a 15 one single I mean yeah it could be a guitar yeah but yeah let's see that's interesting that is this is the I could dig around here and squirrel away all day in a place like this no probably not I think that's probably what's back here very few people have an 850 staves just boxes for stuff where's that get you cleaned out the front you've lost stuff back here no way yeah I don't want those two yeah I got still got to do the video on it it'll be a big case with it wherever it is that's it yeah I recognize it can we dig it can we dig it out yeah that's it you got the cable Oh see that's what I missing I got to get that cable I gotta make one that's a weird pin out it's like a yet six pin you got to find the right pins and really that's the yeah that's right I I should try them so cool though mine had the the manual and and uh the the sales sheets and stuff I wonder if your staff has any stuff like that the mine had also a record that was supposed to demonstrate it that's the that's the m3 forty they made a few different models that's cool so you this is your - that's away for a rainy day or put online yeah I don't I don't think they've gone up there's a weird throw hard sale yeah you got to find the right person but they're interesting [Music] the order show come after the oh yeah there you go blast from the past oh oh what's in that 63 Jack strat no way killer and I'll see you likes it like a time capsule so the dad owned it the son had it under his bed for about 15 years and then we've owned it for probably before 2008 so you wait for the market to come back oh wait yeah for the market to crash jim snow butch yeah man you don't see this stuff all the time that is a real relic honest play where yeah you know I really couldn't say enough good things about this really really cool piece I was privileged to get to look at it and I think Chris for showing it to me you know it's not everybody he'll take in the back of the store like this and just show you a guitar of this kind of caliber and and Chris even just he walked up front to deal with a customer here and just kind of left me with the guitar for a while you know which was it just shows us trust in me and I really appreciate that but yeah you can see here how the pickguard has kind of shrunk and you know it's caused a couple of cracks there's a little crack there and the other end of the pit guard was kind of you could really tell it the distance between the screw and the hole but that's what these all do pretty much eventually this one actually had the three position original switch as well a lot of times those are replaced with the five original ashtray cover and you can see they're worth just the arm where where you know he just played the heck out of this thing I had a Fender Jaguar for a long time that had that same wear spot in that same same place the headstock is in really good condition the the decal is still all there which a lot of times those are in as you probably already know those are all worn off a lot this one was in really good shape on the headstock the 1963 you can see they're the original vintage split shaft tuning keys just a beautiful rosewood fretboard on this and the neck just felt so nice in your hands I mean you could just tell somebody had loved the heck out of this and original case and you can always tell the fenders from this era because they'll have that kind of blonde case and it's it's also cool that it had you know he just left all the original stuff that the original owner had in it including the empty pack of black diamond strings that's a defunct string company this string pack was a fender string pack probably from the late seventies you can see there the oversized headstock on that guitar there I've got a lot of actually black diamond strings around here I need to do a video on strings at some point this thing had the original arm bar and everything just a really amazing shape you can see there Jim he had his he had his name on there at one time and stick or form there's a shielding underneath you could see there it was it's kind of and you could see it on the edges of the pickguard where the pig artist shrunk and it's kind of revealed the shielding I think that shielding may have been added the action looks really nice fretboards in good condition the frets even looked in pretty good condition from what I could see a few dimples but yeah once again just a real privilege to be able to even look at something like this but yeah take notes guys this is what a real honest play where guitar will look like you know you'll get the wear around the leg right there you'll get the wear around the arm you'll get the wear right there where you know that the scoop begins for your belly you're gonna get all that wear right there on the on the neck and that really just feels so good under the hands when you get one like this that's been played and loved you can really tell it it just feels right it feels at home craig guitar [Music] but you need to see this the sheer amount of stuff that he's got in the back of the store now the last time I was in this store he had a lot of this kind of stuff up front instead of cramped back here now you know it's always been a bit of a mess back that's a pedal steel in that case right there you know just stuff everywhere man the dudes a real connoisseur of vintage for sure and there's another vintage amplifier under there there's a piggyback amp it's a basement with the 215 inch speaker cabinet lots of violins mandolins ukuleles just shove it in here and there there's some old drums up there just a super cool place to be man you know I could have spent all day in this back room and probably if I started working in this joint the first thing I would do is come into this back room and just straighten everything up and just take sheer pleasure in in the labor well there's a second one of those with three courses and get that yeah 12 strings three to a coarse old bowl back oh there's that tipple there it is a tipple is a 10 string guitar like instrument that originates in South America I believe in the Andes Mountains as a matter of fact one of the Friday's I did featured the oldest woman in the world and she played one of these instruments you've got let's see what that is that's a lot of work on that if he chooses to do it that's like an old it's a K I believe and there's a K craft I showed one of those on the channel before I actually did some work on it that probably wouldn't take a whole lot to get going looks like the fret boards loose got another que their big western body que he said it's km8 silver tone harmony rocket that looks like is that a three pickup sure is three pickup missing the pickguard crackle on the side I think this was here last time I I was here I tried to buy it in that condition but I think he wanted to fix it which I don't blame you I don't blame him for that get more money if you can fix it he's got put it in the time that intrigues me right there so this that's an old that's an oldie yeah that's an old it's an old one it's not another what is that length side that's a Chicago made thing or a lake side no those are made in Michigan I believe no actually I was right the first time these are made in shiraz made in Chicago by Lyon and Healy line and Healy he's been around a long long time since the early 1900's or late eighteen hundreds even they manufactured a lot of guitars that were distributed by didson I believe over in Boston who was a was a music dealer and retailer Lyon and Healy are actually still in business and they now make some of the world's most sought-after harps this one as you could see was gonna need a whole lot of work really to get it back up and going but you know it would have been time well spent really the main crack was on the back probably wouldn't have taken a whole lot to repair those cracks clean them up real nice fix any loose braces probably be easiest to go ahead and just take the back off of this thing if you were going to repair it and do it that way yeah there's some cool stuff for sure that guitar right there would be oh yeah I've had one of those that's those are cooler than ever phone oh it's a it's a Kate craft that's uh that's pre-k that's before the guy who who started the KE company this was his company before k so that's probably about nineteen like 1929 is there 230 I think like 29 to 32 something like that they were making those and then the other got all these real elaborate kind of transfers on them you borrow someone who's designed for Epiphone mm yeah the headstock was very epic pwnage it you did you know about this there is a bolt in there that holds this on and this whole thing will swivel allowing you to change the neck okay very easily you got lots of guitars that's probably the answer arms in these cases back here too so yeah well I mean long in here say to me to me this is the store this is the store I mean that if there's great that's like the beginners and stuff and walk in that this is like wow to me this is where a luthier can cut his teeth yep absolutely got real okay sup there for something roll mandolin case there's another tater bug violins back there - uh-huh I asked they're everywhere they're shoved in all these places but this is what happens when you do this for long enough you get you know you accumulate the parts and you you know and you know you've got that part it's like but you got to find it there's no that's the old school did you tag right there yeah the other one I would have probably spend time on back here would be this guy on the end this K forget the model but it's got a couple of it's got two pickups that would be worth worth your time cool dulcimer let's get a look at this I got at least it even if I came by oh yeah magnet own custom 260 this has got the truth vibrato I have had one of these on the channel before very cool amp extremely cool and that thing that thing is definitely intriguing as well Zach it's a Zach Wow gorgeous it's in good shape no handle that is a cool color and that's original yeah you never see that color actually really it's like something you'd see on like a what am I thinking like rollerskates or you know I mean uh uh I don't know we're like old booths you know that's cool yeah telly stuff hella star I like that headstock yeah fenders but it's it's longer yep that is it cool but you got to have out that they're not super cool old silvertone our super cone that is cool from the 30s yeah for those who don't know super tone yeah that's the breed this predecessor of silvertone they started silvertone and 44 40 or 41 so everything up to them would have been a super tone yeah there there'll be something cool in that case - I can I can already see it in my mind's eye yeah that's a harmony then that's from well I mean it's it may have been sold through Sears I don't know a serenader I can't remember on that one I've seen him before so top some major series no it does than this what is it a Gibson mm-hmm it would be worth your time backs gotta come off top-notch with it you know back I think it's quite well is it this is probably what @j fifty right or no no no cuz it's got this Friday now all right that's my man that's not nice J yeah L 50 but maybe not because does l50 have binding I don't think they'll fifty has any binding so that would be the step up it's like a missus step up I think that's a cool family stir help oh yeah yeah yeah yeah member you used to do weird weird things around your sound house you shouldn't that means show it to me not the newer case hostess that might be Nolan [Music] you you [Music] and I appreciate you show me this this is really cool I mean I I know uh yeah I know you don't expect you know people regular person who comes in you know it's not gonna be back no no I'm getting the VIP treatment so [Music] [Music] I see it already I think everybody on my channel already sees that at national there's another something back there that's a Gibson right there this is that phone yeah but it's all true this is kind of a cool app Oh Randall under there now I was wondering now cuz that when I was up there in the front I said man who usually has a lot more finished than this and this is where they are that PA 100 those could be modded into monsters I mean if you like clean it's great probably a good pedal platform yeah but you could combine like a couple of those channels though and make it into like a roar and Marshall lucky you know yeah there's a fan master reverb we've had one of those on the channel before those are cool another fender down there or the kickback rigs lots of lots of fret boards in there bandit 65mph is out of the basement basement so that that's the second basement I've seen in the back of the store or maybe the third actually yeah there's a Gemini - yeah those rock when you get them right do you know you don't you gotta it's a different o different model 15 or so - you fit yeah yep what's what is that one in the corner back there what is that one oh my god it is a fender yeah it's a strain too large somebody put somebody put set like 70 or late 60s grill cloth and painted it black oh man that see this is what they were doing this is what I'm talking about on my channel a lot yeah I think everybody in the 70s all their heroes had black amps I had Marshalls and they were trying to make they were trying to be like their heroes and they painted all their dads 50 stuff black and ruined it but yeah that'll be that'll be killer look at that so I don't know if you can restore that back to the tweet or you can sit there and scrape on it and a lot of it might come off you might get lucky yeah you might get lucky that is that's a cool one though yeah remind me to talk about what you want for the national before we leave I'd like to talk about that yeah that's say this is uh what's what's the fender back there super another super well that's a drip edge super yeah 68 nope it's a super no there's something down there there's another fender down there and the super has to be sitting on something so you got probably another couple fenders down there this is the way not to sell stuff Chris are you really yeah as mad in the universe flying directionless aimlessly swaying racing on a chaotic path he cuts to and fro through his weightless ocean to the door to the window closed to the corner everywhere but the open window fearful of the unknown the window is shut he's trapped this world the bubble on branches of life an ever-flowing stream with infinite tributaries and helpless navigators dreaming save money ok so I made at home and I did end up with something I'm gonna have to make this brief because it's kind of raining on me but I did get this national this thing is probably 1950s maybe late 40s I think it was kind of painted by somebody on the sides maybe just sort of blended in I'm not sure wrong handle so I'll have to replace that the back door is not original obviously so I'll have to do something to kind of disguise that or maybe even change it I'm not sure that's gonna need some pretty extensive work non-original power tubes for sure it does have the what looks like maybe original RCA preamp tubes and rectifier missing an on/off switch so we're gonna need to do some work on this thing also notice that the speaker the electrodynamic speaker was spliced in so it's not original either alright so that'll do it for this video I hope you guys enjoyed this one it was really fun to see Chris again it was fun as always to visit Abbas music store in Henderson Kentucky if you guys are ever in that area definitely stop in and give them a visit and tell them Brad the guitar just sent you you guys take care and we'll see y'all later [Music] you
