[Music] all right so by now we all know what we're doing right so grab your coffee and enjoy so this is by far the most diverse range for players we've had from Jazz to metal from Blue to New Soul everything and everyone just had one rule solo over this track [Music] it's a sort of blend between Zeppelin Beach Boys and the Beatles that I wrote on the piano and of course you can also Play Over the track it's available on my second channel for I want to enjoy and a downloadable track on my patreon page with some tips and pointers on how to solo over this track anyway the first one let's get going all right guys it's Ruby I hope you're all well firstly thank you Paul for having me on this video I really appreciate you asking me so thank you secondly the gear that I used for this solo was my archetype Revere plugin from neural DSP and then I use this brand new uh Cutlass Music Man Cutlass it's like a custom colors that I had made it's got my bare knuckle triptych in it which is single coils anyway my approach to this track was really just to Accent the chord progressions play dynamically um obviously you know play with feel and and just trying to give it a little bit of movement throughout the song uh so yeah I hope I did a good job I hope you enjoyed it in any case thanks for having me and I'll see you later [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] ER I just love there's always something when I listen to Arabia his touch is timing it's so in the pocket just incredible and the stone it doesn't matter what guitar he plays you can immediately hear it's him it's just such a lovely player cool lines lovely how you paid respect to the course of the change is amazing to see thank you so much all right next up Joey Lander a thing that I really like to do when I'm playing over a chord progression is to Target the thirds of chords as they kind of pass by instead of thinking what scale applies to this chord um I really try to Target the major third the reason for that is that the third to me carries about as much harmonic information as you can possibly get in one note a place where this is really evident is when a chord kind of leaves the key so in this in this particular tune when it goes from F major to F minor if I'm targeting that a flat it tells you a lot about what's happening in the chord progression underneath and carries a lot of information it works really well on chords that are in the key as well but I find that it can be especially spicy for stuff that is not diatonic [Music] laughs [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] laughs [Music] oh my God Joey's one of those players who always hits me in the fields with his phrasing is it's just I have Goosebumps all over my mouth it's really really pretty and if you ever need a reason to really commit to learning slide just watch this video it just adds such a deeper level to your playing it's just it's really magical and it's interesting what he said about hitting the third of the chord sometimes it can sound a bit much or artificial but here is phrasing it's just so natural no no too much just gorgeous storytelling it's it's really well done thank you I love it so much anyway next up here's Martin Miller hey what's up everybody it's Martin Miller here thanks so much for having me Paul this was an awesome opportunity I love doing this I generally try to outline the Rhythm and the harmony of whatever I'm playing over very closely so that if you were to remove the music from behind my solo you would still have the Rhythm represented with a strong pulse and the quartz represented within my melodic choices the way this would work practically over track like this is to highlight the chord tones plus some optional notes so for example the first chord a minor I would play something like this then a minor major seven second chord and I hope you really hear the chords going by when I make those note choices that's my goal name as far as gear goes I'm playing my new signature guitar which is going to come out this year this is the Ibanez mmn1 sounds absolutely beautiful and I'm plugging into a fractal audio fm9 using the mm basically patch which is available on my website foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] laughs Jack need a little bit longer for you yeah super cool I love this fretboard wizard my God flying over the neck without really going overboard to be honest it's really all nice and tidy and so melodic and it's really cool to hear you're paying respect to like the dynamic the build of the the backing track so when the climax hits you got it up fabulous really really lovely and tasteful thank you so much all right um oh it's time for me all right this is just such a fun backing track to play over and usually my approaches just do exactly that just play over it a few times and hear what ideas or what phrases stick with my ear sometimes I just record one little phrase in the beginning and then listen to it on top of the backtrack and see where it wants to go and then explore ideas from that so I make sure that everything sounds coherent and everything works well together instead of just a random bunch of licks thrown together which sometimes happen if I just start improvising so at first I played everything on the Telly it sounded lovely then I played hey nonetheless ball and it sounded great too so I was like hmm and I found a solution here with this Panucci Les Paul hollow body or thin line gold top it sounds great on top of this track actually I'm using the camper profiling amp with my mattress profile with just minimal that of course and some delay to tie everything together [Music] [Music] thank you foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Laughter] [Music] thank you thank you for listening right next up here's Jens Larson and usually when I improvise then there are more notes in the course for instance this chord has a lot more notes and also if you take a look at this one that also has quite a few more notes another thing that's very different is the tone so usually when I play jazz I'm not really putting my tone control above two so on this amp I ended up just turning down everything so I'm turning down all the controls just to get a different kind of vibe and I'm not even playing the ramp It's All Digital a solo like this is really about capturing the moment that place where everything spontaneously come together around take 76 I was kind of getting there and that process was really very spontaneous very fresh and I think it turned out really well even though maybe the course could have had a few more notes [Music] thank you minutes [Music] [Music] foreign [Laughter] [Music] really sweet hearing those those Jazz lines a jazz vocabulary on this track super cool and funny because for me this track is already pretty busy with changes but apparently for a jazz guitar player it's it's not enough so I mean these lines the one that like the rising the ascending line was really really pretty and captivating to listen to something to study for me because I need to work on this it's it's very pretty thank you so much I love this steak next up Josh Smith I just want to thank Paul for asking me to do this I really can't wait to see everybody else's solos you always get such great players to be involved in this so honored that you asked me when anybody asked me to play a solo I kind of think in two different ways one is it a job like did somebody actually hire me to play this solo and not necessarily be you know me whereas in a situation with like this where you're expecting me to be me then I don't think at all I just put it on listen a couple times and then just play through and try to improvise something cool I just love to improvise so what you get is you know this is probably the second take that I took after kind of fumbling my way through it once or twice and learning the changes that's that's what I like is to just have something fresh that came from here really nice changes and I enjoy doing it and I was just playing my Ibanez the black one the main flat V1 with my poly flat V pedal into my Morgan js12 amp that's it laughs [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] amen amazing stuff I love how Josh always every note he plays is with intent he means business and you see it and it's the way it comes out you hear it just how well balanced and organic this whole solo was with a lot of harmonic content in his line super cool double stops and and chords sliding up and down really pretty amazing stuff thank you so much the twang of the Telly I love it anyway uh next up Ross Campbell hey everyone Ross Campbell here Paul thank you so much for having me on the video so the process of me coming up with that solo started with me going on a walk I took my headphones with me and I just listened to Paul's backing track on a loop over and over again and sort of imagined some melodic ideas that I might want to experiment with on the guitar I loaded the track in my doll spent a couple of hours getting familiar with it improvising various takes and then in the end I was able to compose that finished solo by taking bits and pieces from those improvised takes and combining them into one cohesive solo I used my Fender Custom Shop 60s Relic Strat into my interface and then into the laptop I'm running the neural DSP tonking Imperial Mark II plugin foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] hmm whoa how much can you put in one solo without feeling cramped or overdone amazing and probably the click on that a major chord it's my favorite lick ever wow super cool really beautiful flow going on everything so smooth from changing the pickups to changing from pick to playing with fingers man magical hat off to you thank you next up Julia hey guys I'm Julia and first of all thank you so much Paul for having me it's such an honor to be part of this project the backing track was so much fun to play on and yeah equipment wise I was using this ivanus as at guitar stram and iridium petal which is an amp simulator and a tiny little bit of distortion from the Wampler tumness and Reverb wise um the Valhalla Reverb plugin and also a tiny little bit of delay and my Approach for this solo was to listen to the track many times it got so many nice changes and yeah I was just jamming many many times over it um having a lot of fun with it singing over it coming up with some melodic ideas and then I found few things that I liked and I put them together and I hope you enjoy it and see you maybe next time [Music] thank you [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you no [Music] it's a party tricks at the end wow super cool some very very pretty things happening in the solo I love the lights and dynamic touch you're playing with with that clean tone it just brings out something special to this backing track really and that combined with beautiful phrasing and Stellar Melodies just makes this such a pleasure and really chill and comfortable to listen to just very mellow I love it thank you next up Marty schwarch hey Marty Schwartz here I just want to give a big thank you and shout out to Paul Davis for inviting me to be a part of this amazing collaboration I'm mostly using a minor pentatonic there's some cool moments uh where it's like an E7 chord or an F minor chord that gives you some of those little outside notes so uh you know I feathered those in there but I tried to keep it you know very much like that Beetle Zeppelin classic rock song style solo so that's what I went for thanks again you guys foreign [Music] good yeah [Music] [Applause] [Music] three [Music] [Applause] minutes [Music] um what a way to end the seller beautiful man super cool I love how this speaks the solo says a lot about you like just such a wholesome thing really really pretty and just like I know you're very down to earth and sticking very close to your identity I just love it how how the phrasing Works you're taking the time for the licks to sink in and not rushing things really fits well also the Gibson tone the dry Woody tone love it thank you so much Marty all right amazing next up I'm gonna tell you it's asado what's up guys this is Matilda Sato thank you so much for having me on this this is my sir signature model the very first one and I plugged this guitar it's trading to the interface and I ended up using a neuro DSP plug-in the mizaboogie one uh uh so in terms of the track I took a listen a couple of times then I start playing along it's such an iconic chord progression you know the very first half of the song I play along for a bit and then I was just not happy everything sounded too cliche so I stopped for a second and then I was just listening to the track and then start singing some Melodies uh over the chords until I find something that really made me happy about the second half of the song it felt more like home because that's probably one of my favorite chord progressions ever so I just went with the flow so that felt more like an improvisation kind of thing [Music] thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] there we go [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] huh uh should have made it back to drag longer oh my I can't just I don't know we ordered right oh my God it's so bizarre how affluent and natural the things come out of your your fingers just I just know how much practice and just and it doesn't matter how many notes he's playing you still hear the chords underneath even if you would take out a track and that's really special man I gotta transcribe this and learn it note for notes maybe someday when I have time thank you so much all right next up we've got fear or chion for me good solo is a solo that you can sing right after you hear you play you know for the first time so I wanted to have like an idea and spread it out later and you know be a bit surprising and a bit like obvious you know tried actually a few guitars I tried the red special I try the Strat but the one dual for me was my danger burst Gibson's choice and I could have used 24 Frets because there's a really high band there but I wanted to struggle for it and I wanted to make you impress [Music] Ed [Applause] thank you [Applause] cool [Music] I love this different sound like the Hefty game last ball tone with the long sustained really pretty and you can do different things with it and it shows super cool how it you could play anything on this track this is just a proof sounds super cool and overall beautiful lines how they all float into each other from low to high with that low power cord really smacking putting everything on the table amazing stuff thank you so much how much of a celebration to the guitar is this video how awesome is the guitar as an instrument I mean that deserves a good thumbs up right super cool to have all these players here on the channel and um yeah I'd love to make a next one this is not the last one so please if you have some recommendations for future guests on the show leave them in the comment section and yeah let's see what we can do of course thanks to everyone in this video uh make sure to give them all a follow and a thumbs up they put their heart into playing this solo and it's just without them there wouldn't be a video in the first place so thank you so much and thank you for watching it's much appreciated I love you all and I hope to see you next time in a future video cheers
