Etsy Full PRINT ON DEMAND Tutorial | STEP BY STEP Beginner Friendly | Connect Printful to Etsy

hey guys it's tia welcome to the video hope you're doing well so today i wanted to give an etsy printful uh print on demand tutorial as promised there's a lot of steps that we need to take and make sure that we have our account set up properly so then we can start earning passive income so if you follow this tutorial along step by step then you should be set up pretty well um obviously that doesn't guarantee your account doesn't get banned because if you look at my old videos i actually did get my account banned but then i got it back you can check out my video here if that does happen so just be aware of that um but hopefully if you do all the steps in this video and don't break any of their rules um respect the platform then you should be good right if you need to print on demand or etsy then this is basically one of the ways that i sell um i connect printful to etsy there are other print-on-demand production partners like printfy as well i haven't used them personally so i can't vouch for them but uh printful has been very reliable for me print on demand is just one of the ways that i sell on etsy obviously people have handmade businesses um i don't do that personally but i also do drop shipping and i also sell digital products so the thing about drop shipping and print on demand which is technically a form of drop shipping as well is that etsy only allowed drop shipping recently um it was actually banned for a long time before that so really really need to be careful about how we are going about this on this platform that's why it's so important to follow this tutorial step by step and then be really vigilant of the rules after that as well now just a few things to say before we get started on etsy um from my experience so when you're on etsy customer satisfaction is key it is the number one priority as it should be for any website you're selling on but etsy especially okay because if we look at one of these listings here let's take a look at this one you would think that the reviews are just for the product they're selling but no therefore every single thing that people have reviewed on their site okay and that's different from amazon if you look at amazon all the reviews for one product are just for that one product which makes sense right but on etsy it's not like that i'm afraid um so if you get a bad review if you get a one star review on one of your products then that's going to appear on all of your products and if you have like 100 products and people are looking at those products then that's not going to give the best impression is it so if you need to spend a little bit of money to make sure customers happy and keep them quiet stop them you know complaining um customer satisfaction is absolutely key also etsy is very strict about intellectual property infringement so don't be selling trademarked or copyrighted stuff on your site make sure you check your keywords as well for any trademark um i will be talking about that later as well make sure you go and read the etsy terms of use the terms and conditions no it's a pretty long document but i feel like it's written in a pretty nice digestible way so um you know most of it is just obvious things like you know don't post misleading content don't break the law things that you hopefully wouldn't be doing anyway so yeah just read through it uh don't take any shortcuts when it comes to etsy i know there's a lot of rules that you have to follow and a lot of things that you have to go through a lot of steps but if you're not happy about that then go and set up your own shop on shopify or something um you know if you're selling on their platform then you have to abide by their rules okay it's just how it is i'm afraid this is going to be a purely logistics video it's not going to teach you how to make sales make money or or any sort of search engine optimization so i may be doing another video on that and then together these two videos will be like a free course basically but of course before we even consider how to get sales we need to get set up properly another thing i want to say is don't be put off by all this by all the rules and the 20 listing fee as well um for the rules you know just read through it carefully and you'll be fine there's a lot of people doing very well on etsy people are getting their accounts banned for no reason sometimes but just write to them if you've been following the rules you should be fine also the 20 cent listing fee is something that puts some people off selling on etsy which is a shame because if you just think about it like etsy has amazing organic reach better than all of the other print-on-demand websites it's not quite as good as amazon but it's definitely getting up there but yeah my point is don't be scared of the listing fee stuff does sell if you do it properly obviously no guarantees but etsy does get a lot of traffic okay so now i want to talk about printful a little bit printful is my production partner they are very very good and use the link down inscription to sign up for an account um and then get started on your printful journey printful for me has always delivered well they've never not delivered something i live in the uk and for me when i've ordered samples from printful it's never taken longer than two weeks i think the same can be said for my customers living in other countries but it may vary but you know two weeks isn't too bad especially when you consider stuff from other places like i know aliexpress just don't talk about the shipping times on aliexpress they're quite professional they've been around for some time and you also get custom packaging so you can really brand your own clothing line um or whatever it is you want to sell as i said pretty reliable i've never had something that's not delivered if it hasn't been then it will be returned to the printful warehouse and then you can resend it so say if like a customer enters their address wrong or something it will be delivered back to the warehouse and then you can retype that address in and send it back to a different address all free of charge okay so that's completely free your customers mistakes don't cost you that's what i really like about it as well there are some downsides i need to mention as well they do tend to run out of stock of some items so things like masks obviously in very high demand last year um but i had to stop selling masks because printful ran out i mean i could have switched to a different production partner but i just didn't have time to do that kind of stuff last year so that's something to be aware of and also you might think it's a little bit expensive you could definitely get shirts custom printed for cheaper in bulk on other places but it is a drop shipping company it's a on-demand service okay so that's just the extra price that you have to pay and you'll just have to mark up one main thing i want to say about that is it's very easy to lose money if you don't price properly and i'll be showing you how to price properly to the scent or to the penny in this video with my own calculator okay so i've made this calculator i use it myself and it's not some random calculator on the internet that's off by like 10 also they're coffee mugs they break very easily they do need to change their packaging to make sure that it actually properly holds the coffee mug and stops it breaking because i've sold a lot of coffee mugs and i've had this happen more than once several customers complaining and then i've had to pay out my own pocket to send them another coffee mug so those are the only complaints i would have about printful um from my experience selling with them and i would definitely recommend them so hopefully you have a better idea of the pros and cons of selling with etsy and printful and you can decide whether it's for you if we're happy and good to go then let's start with the video first thing we need to do is make an etsy account so i would suggest that you link it to your main email the one that you check the most often because when you make a sale you'll get an email telling you that you've made a sale and also when the customers message you okay and it's really easy to get into a situation where you're not checking all your emails and then you're making sales but then you're losing money on each sale and you don't even know about it or customers are messaging you and you're not replying and then they leave you bad reviews and you only know about it until it's too late so make sure it's an email that you check frequently i've made an email for this tutorial specifically etsy does let you have multiple shops with different emails they will know that you are the person behind all these shops because they can trace your ip address so just be aware of that they do let you have multiple shops as i said but what they're not happy about is when you log into those shops from different ip addresses so don't be you know like on the bus on your phone logging into your etsy stores don't do that they don't really like it but you can have multiple accounts so i've made a new email for this one you'll need to make a new email if you want a different etsy account so once again [Music] okay so it's register make sure you choose a good password and then register okay so this is your new etsy shop now let's have a look at your profile we're on buying mode right now so we need to open up an etsy shop so let's click on sell on etsy okay so let's open up an etsy shop now okay so shop preferences shop language english uk pounds and then it doesn't matter which one of these just move myself down here don't really matter which one of these you select it's just okay now you need to name your shop and it doesn't matter too much what you choose just choose something catchy you can change the name again afterwards so don't worry about it too much i'll just name it trtx shop okay okay so stock your shop now we need to upload one listing in order for printful to sync properly so need to add a listing that's gonna cost us 20 cents remember uh or more than that if you have eight i think like 24 cents if you are not registered for v80 which you probably won't be because it's your first time setting up an etsy shop so that's gonna cost you 24 cents now we add a listing add a photo so just choose any photo you want i've just added a black rectangle here doesn't really matter nobody's going to be seeing this anyway won't get in trouble so listing title listing one remember this is just for the purpose of connecting printful properly and opening up your etsy shop properly okay this is not going to be something you're actually selling so don't worry about it so who made it um now we need to select another company or person okay and i'll talk about this later what is it a finished product when was it made made to order so category clothing you don't need to fill in any of these they're not compulsory you should do after you actually list something um but for now it's fine for the renewal option select manual because you gonna delete this listing after and for type select physical okay so description first product now this is a very important step we need to add printful as our production partner okay so etsy knows that we're not the ones making the product and printful are the ones that are actually supplying this product it's very important that you fill this out okay do not skip this so printful they're located in chatsworth in the about section just write something like this so let your customers know what printful is and why you're using them and about your partnership so why are you working with partner does it matter only yes he's going to see this so i have the i don't have the technical ability or equipment uh i i design everything myself um it's really important if you um do get technical help you can put that but it's best to put i design everything myself what is this partner's role they create a finished product that i then alter and customize okay so save partner okay so now i want to add printful as our production partner for this listing and you'll have to do this every single time you add a listing okay as we'll see later now tags you can use a tool on printful to help you find tags for your specific listing later whatever niche it's going to be in but for now let's just leave that blank so price let's say like one pound and quantity one skus are just numbers that help you track your listings buyers won't see them as you can see here so don't worry about this too much it's just purely organizational you don't have to fill it in if you don't want to or if you don't have a lot of listings so country of origin you can select united states here because they're located in the united states the postcode of their headquarters i believe is 1974 9. uh that's not where your orders are going to be coming from all the time they're not going to be shipping from california all the time it depends on where your customers location is you have factories and areas that they ship from in all places like europe processing time um let's do a custom range from one to three weeks i think that's a reasonable selection uh that's what time it usually takes a printful varies in terms of what delivery companies they use sometimes it's usps sometimes it's fedex or dhl so just leave it as usps i think that's pretty common anyway so preview postage price uh united states yeah okay save and continue okay so now we have our very first listing let's press save and continue okay so how you get paid obviously here you need to enter in your bank details so for tax purposes you'll be an individual or sole proprietorship unless you do have a business then you can check that enter your personal information here look away here you have to enter your bank details and unfortunately they don't pay to paypal yet customers can buy stuff through etsy payments or paypal or a variety of different other methods but you only get paid your funds through your bank okay so now we need to confirm our email confirm account okay and now we've finished setting up let's look at our shop manager okay so we need to set up etsy billing now this is really important if you haven't made any money but you still need to pay them like a listing fee or something this is how they charge you okay if you have made a sale say you made like ten dollars and then you list something else they'll just take away 20 cents from that 10 so you won't be charged now but because you've made one listing they're going to add 15 p or 20 cents into your payment account for the listing in shop which will be due on the first day of the next calendar month okay and then this you can leave blank you won't really have to enter it unless you're registered as a vat paying company in the uk which i only recommend you do if you're earning over 80k per year let's open the shop okay so as you can see we have our listing here that we just created now we need to go into printful now if you need any help at any stage of this journey then you've got this little chat box here that you can ask to printful support they usually reply within five minutes for me sometimes they have a longer queue but that's something you can do so let's sign up so sign up with the same email that you signed up to for your etsy because every time you make a sale printful is going to charge you as well so you'll get an email from printful and from etsy and check this this doesn't really matters just wants to know a bit more about you and then press finish okay so let me walk you through the printful dashboard um here we need to do certain things uh which we'll do later and sample orders are just orders that you get a percentage off so it's 30 off in this case you won't get them for free unfortunately um but you get a certain amount of sample orders every month i think it's like two sample orders for me right now um you can get more and you can also get perks so if you get points then you can get all these rewards and then you can exchange them for money off orders or other things like free embroidery and there's some printful guides here which would be useful to have a look at and they have a blog and other helpful resources as well okay so here we can see a list of things that we need to do to set up printful and i'd recommend you just do them in this order so let's verify the email okay now we can pick a product and then we can connect it to our e-commerce store etsy store later so let's pick a product product templates are just designs that you put on certain products which you can reuse again and again so you can put a different design on that product and it just makes it easier for you to upload so every time you make a template you'll need to click add to store in order to add it to your etsy store okay so a template isn't doesn't mean it's added to your store it's just something there that's solely in printful um that you can use to copy over again to make your life easier basically okay so let's make our first product template you can choose any of these different products some of them have varying costs as you can see so you have to take that into account when you price on etsy the shirt i would recommend is just the gildan shirt or the bella canvas if you want a lot of different colors which is good for women's shirts and stuff like that but let's just go with the golden shirt today okay now you can add your design so let's go and create a design you can easily make a professional looking design in canva in combination with photopia i have a full design tutorial which is completely free for anyone that wants some design tips but for today we're just going to go the simple route and pick the dog niche i wouldn't recommend you do the dog niche because it's very oversaturated but as a general rule of thumb anything that sells on redbubble will probably sell on other sites but not the other way around also you can have a look at other people's etsy shops and etsy literally tells you you know oh buyers are raving like 20 buyers have this in their cart so that would give you a good idea of what is selling for other people as well obviously don't copy their designs but just do a variation of the designs have a look at their keywords and which keywords are selling for them i won't be talking too much about how to actually make sales or find niches that sell on etsy or keywords or anything like that in this video as i said at the beginning so let's just stick with something simple now all right dogs okay and then there's this picture of a dog now make sure your background is transparent they do like very large images um so i recommend nine thousand by nine thousand but when we're designing it we can just make it a square of 2000 and then adjust at the end let's make sure there's no white spaces and also take into consideration the color of the shirt i think dark shirts sell better so like black and navy and gray and shirts like that but if you want to sell a white shirt people do buy white shirts so i'd recommend actually having a dark variation and then a light variation so here let's design for a dark shirt we want white text so that it stands out against the darker background okay and that's our finished design just so you're clear this will probably not sell if you actually put something out there like this okay now let's upload the design so just click on it accept the terms and conditions so make sure it fulfills all these criteria so every time you upload something it will be stored in your file library so that means if you want to put this on more products like coffee mugs or sweaters then you can do that pretty easily just by pressing place okay so you don't need to upload it again okay so now we have our design remember we made a nine thousand by nine thousand pixel design in photopia or if you have photoshop then you can resize it as well and we need to make sure the image is large enough for it to be a good resolution on printful now we've got our space here i wouldn't recommend going too close to the edges but make sure you make it an appropriate size that's a little bit too big isn't it okay so you want to make it not too close to the neck but not too far down as well you want something covering the chest so yeah we've got our print quality good because we have a large file size it stands out against the black background okay and then now we need to select the product so we can select more colors for the product you can have uh navy gray i wouldn't recommend selecting two grays it might give the customer analysis paralysis just need two and also we can add embroidery as well their embroidery quality is very good i would definitely recommend um so and then you might want to make a white version uh because this white text won't stand out against the white background so you'll need to make a separate product for that okay uh you can also add stuff to the back an outside label this will cost you a little bit more but for now let's just have this design on the front okay so product template title sometimes it doesn't appear on the shirt don't worry about this this it will appear on the mock-up that you push to etsy and on your dashboard as well but it's just an error that they have here so dog shirt template and then we can add the sizes so i would recommend you select all sizes so this range is 8 pound 46 is for the 3xl and then 6 pound 22 is for the small size so let's save the product template now okay so now we have our dog shirt template and we can push this to the store remember when you create a template it's not yet in your store okay this is just a file that's saved on printful so you can easily push it to any store that you have whether it's a shopify or an etsy okay we need to connect our store now so let's go and do that choose a platform connect etsy and all we need to do is press the connect to etsy button allow access continue connect store okay so now our etsy store is connected let's add a product my product templates dog shirt template okay uh we've got our colors and our sizes selected let's proceed to mock-ups now i would definitely recommend you making your own mock-up so you can go to etsy and search for different mock-ups the ones i would recommend for women's are definitely ones like these they sell very well they're pretty cute and have a nice aesthetic to them also another thing you can do is go to placeit.com so you can actually have someone wearing your shirt whatever type of shirt you have they have a lot of different models so you'll never run out of options here this is a paid subscription service i'll put an affiliate link down in the description but shirts with people wearing them do tend to sell better as well if not you can just have it on one of these mock-ups you can use the printful mock-ups as well um which is what we'll be using today but these don't sell very well i find that stuff with a colored background or a darker background actually sells pretty well because it stands out against all the other etsy sellers they all have these generic white backgrounds so that's something to think about as well and we should add some additional mock-up styles so let's add a man a woman because it's a unisex shirt and then maybe one on a hanger or if it's a special occasion you can add like a halloween one and then let's proceed to details so dog shirt need to remove the template obviously um let's just leave it as dog shirt but obviously you're gonna need to search up your keywords and search engine optimization i would recommend you leave all this information here don't need to change it just change the top so great dog shirt liz buy right let's add both imperial and metric because customers want to know the sizes in whatever measurement they're using now for the tags i would recommend you use printful's keyword scout which helps you find the best tags on etsy the best selling tags or you can just use the ones that are selling for you on other places or you can have a look at other etsy sellers selling in your niche and see what tags they're using one really important thing to do is trademark check your tags if it's just a generic word like dog or dog lover or you know red dog shirt or something like that then obviously you don't need to check it but if it's actually the name of a person or a franchise then you do need to check it and i would recommend going to trademarkit.com which is this website and just typing in your tag here okay it's really important to do etsy doesn't like it when people infringe on intellectual property if you get a few of your designs taken down then they will shut your account down so for jade let's just do dog lover shirt do a comma and then that separates the tags leave this as unisex and then display product with free shipping okay if you display with free shipping in etsy but you don't check this box it will kind of mess it up because it won't have free shipping in printful so you need to remember to check this box now pricing this is important here we can increase the price by a set amount so if i type in five here then you'll see that all of these prices change and it'll be five above this price okay now i actually have a free calculator tool that i'll link down the description that i made myself you'll find a google spreadsheets link to it and all you need to do is enter your costs and the price that you want to set and then it will calculate the estimated profit that you get if your estimated profit is negative then you need to increase the price okay so what's the cost here it's 6.41 so let's copy and paste this this is in us dollars [Music] okay now let's give an arbitrary price to set it as let's just say 14 okay so we'll make a pretty healthy profit of five dollars and 81 cents 82 cents maybe um and the customer will see this price which is reasonable in my opinion most shirts sell at this price or higher i would say on etsy it does have a lot of people that are willing to spend a premium amount on the products it's not like ebay where everyone's looking for a bargain so i would say that anything that's on a bit on the high side you could probably get away with over 20 dollars you could probably get away with as well and the reason it's so important we do this is because if we set the price as too low then we can lose money so if we set the price as seven dollars we're actually losing money so you would think that we're making profit but no let's go back to printful now so you'll notice there's a printful price and a retail price this is the cost as we just mentioned and the retail price is what you set so the difference between these two the retail price minus the printful price will be your profit okay so the profit that's shown here is not the profit you get to keep okay the profit you get to keep is what we calculated here so you only get to keep 581 or 546 probably 546 because you're gonna have to pay v80 on that as well if you're not registered for v80 which you probably won't be this price so this 851 it looks nice but it's not as i said it's not the price that you will be getting because etsy will be taking all those fees away okay and additional fees if you make a sale with off-site ads just keep that in mind okay now let's submit store okay so we've got our product in store this will be a draft in etsy so let's take a look at our store let's go on listings and then go on drafts and you can see this is a draft in our etsy store now so we haven't activated yet it's not going to charge us yet for that listing um but once we activate it it will so before we activate it let's just check that everything's set up properly so for the store defaults check that this is all good it should be good if you just connected it and then for selling region i'd recommend worldwide and there that's set up okay so let's go back to our shop we can add this to more products if you want i would definitely recommend you do that add it to at least you know five products and now we can see that this is synced so what does it mean when it's synced well if automatic fulfillment is turned on which it is and all of the products in order are synced the auto order will be fulfilled automatically if some products aren't synced then the order will be saved as a draft so you can sync products on the fly so let's press edit in etsy okay and then now we can select our thumbnail i would recommend you adjust the thumbnail so the design is more clearly seen okay okay adding a video is always good if you have time to do that uh now this is the important bit so we've got our title uh now we need to select another company or person finished product and made to order for size we can leave it as more than one and primary color more than one you can select a clothing style if you want so uh you know like casual smart whatever you want um occasion if you have if you're designing for a particular occasion then you can select that this doesn't harm or limit your searches it'll just show up in more categories sleeve length optional neckline optional i'd recommend you leave them as manual when you're starting out and then if a shirt is selling very well for you you can change it to automatic later so you don't have to keep renewing every four months but you don't know whether it will sell at the beginning so just leave it as manual so it doesn't charge you 20 cents every four months without you knowing or something like that so type its physical product got our description now we need to add a partner for the listing so remember remember remember to check this box okay otherwise etsy will not be happy with you you need to list your production partner okay so tags we've got our one tag here definitely recommend you add more materials we can leave that blank or you can enter you know cotton it's always nice to fill out more stuff so the customers know exactly what they're buying but you don't really have to um price quantity and sku sku as i said it's for your use only for your tracking use so if you're selling a lot of different listings you can order them it's the customer won't see it so don't worry about it so prices if we look at our pricing options then it should be all good prices vary for each size and color well the price for each column will be the same but you can just it doesn't really matter that box and variations is all good as well we can change the prices here if we want i would recommend you leave them as what you calculated before and had before in printful they will transfer the same price over here and quantity they're all at 999 because that's basically infinite so now we need to check that we've got free shipping if that's what you wanted um which i would recommend now personalization if you're just selling a blank shirt and you want to personalize then you can check this but the personalization tool in printful is only really for shopify so it doesn't really integrate with etsy i'm afraid like every time your customer orders printful will just send that over to them immediately so i'd recommend you leave this off now postage price i've got free postage check that is the one you want and then the total price will be this um they'll add in some tax so the total price will be what we calculated here it will be around uh 16.80 and then you can check the price for different regions as well it's all the same here let's press publish as you can see here there is a non-refundable fee of 20 cents for each new listing if you're in the uk or another v80 paying country and you're not registered for v80 then you're going to have to pay 24 cents on this okay so the publication date will reset to today's date and listing walks by four months from today so you'll be charged uh 20 cents again if you turn on automatic renewal but since we have manual it will just be uh 20 cents that we're paying one time and then four months later if it expires and we still want the listing up then we can renew it manually ourselves it will just be in our drafts and then we can publish the draft again just like as we're doing now okay so if your listing doesn't appear immediately then it should do within a couple of hours or a day maybe that is basically how to connect it properly now we need to finish taking care of some other stuff so we need to add a billing method so make sure you fill out your address here now one thing you need to make sure you remember to do is delete that draft listing you had in etsy so remember the first one that you uploaded because if etsy sees that they will not like it so don't leave it up for too long and just keep pushing over
