the dream team apart it's fine but we're back guys good morning like we said you are watching and tuning in to engage live our mid service check-in type situation yes you know we love it here you know with engage you know is that time for us to share i feel like we're getting antsy as you know things start slowly opening up in society you know everyone's itching to get back in church so you know i think engage is a good thing to keep us connected during this time right absolutely absolutely like you said things are slowly starting to open back up we're slowly starting to like see more people you know little by little but i think we definitely did still take our time with that but and actually like you said this is the perfect time to just come in check in see your church family in a virtual way you know drop down in those comments make sure you're saying good morning to everybody there if you haven't already you know like that little touch and degree that you would have like we always say in the hallways of service like hey how you doing let's go get breakfast you can't get breakfast right now but virtually you can say hello good morning and you know also since we are the them you know it's a big thing you know social media everyone sees it so it takes a big person to share those praise reports and you know you may be blessing someone else right those testimonies definitely help other people as well amen amen so i will say we'll start off with our first one it's coming from hester clark hester said thank god he has allowed me to see another day you know that's such a humble yeah like that is the first thing we need to say as soon as we wake up like i open my eyes again right thank you for another day i love that right i have marlene hall god helped me put out put one foot in front of the other when i didn't feel like going on a trying week has been turning into a triumphant week amen where i can see clear god be the glory i asked him to continue to lead and guide me as i face this battle he is my father and i am his child such a testimony these testimonies so humble in her testimony i love it i love love and love so another one we have from terry potts cook terry said he reassured me of his goodness and mercy and you know what's what i love about that testimony is that sometimes we forget how good god is sometimes we do we just we you know we live by day day by day and we just forget how good he is right so terry i i am touching agreeing with you with that testimony what do we have next i have jennifer patterson so many ways he kept me i'm so incredibly grateful for his grace his mercy towards me that he kept me like especially during this time oh come on kept me kept my mind kept my i'm adding on to your appraised report but uh yes jennifer amen and last but not least we have patricia wright she said god has been in has been and still is good to me my story is a long testimony but believe me when i say god has been good to me glory yeah hallelujah yeah i think we all have those testimonies where you know we have those battles that we fight in private and only god knows so you know we're agreeing with you patricia that you know we god has us i love the consistency of the praise reports knowing that god is still good god still has the glory god is still keeping us i love that that's the the consistent trend in each one you know and you know as you're dropping those prayers for those praise reports as well as those prayer requests you know we want you to drop those questions as well we have the dynamic duo that's going to come and talk another another another great discussion the tag team right another great discussion about the spiritual warfare series that we're in chess not checkers in particular talking about the demons yeah who the demonic listen we've been through some stuff in this uh chestnut checkers series and he just keeps unraveling layers and layers and layers and i'm just so grateful for that oh my gosh we get we get so excited on the recap talking about it so i'm excited for the discussion today as bishop continues in this series but you know with those praise reports with these prayer requests and those questions foreign we also want you to participate in a little fun with us right right so what game do we have today suspect okay well here we go the game is called bishop always talks about if you have this faith as small as a oh dang am i giving it away i must do c faith yeah kev that was a layup okay we're gonna move up yeah it's okay i'm like there's only one thing that comes in here okay all right um okay so it's on campus okay there's a lot of things that's on campus we have the stage in the back it's on campus it's a place okay um do you have any did this yes it is a tambourine but you know we love we just love having fun here on engage you know you know maya likes to have us act out crazy i think she likes to see us crazy on this she likes to make us look like fools right so with that being said like we said you know the church we are close physically but we are still moving virtually but like we said earlier you know you know people are still wanting that church they're missing church service and we have that on saturdays we are back with our driving services at 11 30 and you get it's you know compared to last year it's a much more impactful and dynamic service yeah absolutely the stage is different dynamic worship is different if you come early enough you might see us out there goofing off again yes um as a like engaged live live right right situation it's incredible so if you are local we want you to join us at 11 30 on saturdays weather permitted and join us you know as we hunt for jesus and you know we just you know we just praise and worship together in the parking lot not in a sanctuary not yet but in the parking lot right but you know as we always like doing here we love celebrating the holidays here at bethany and you know something that's coming up very soon is you know father's day father's day yes so we want to celebrate those fathers but before we do that as you know unengaged we always have a visual how's everybody demons this is the last message in demonstration yep all right uh final one for the demonic and just kind of summarizing the whole demonic hiding in the strongholds of our thoughts yeah entryways and all of us being careful that if god does the magnificent in the simplistic yep then satan always mimics god he hides great struggle great heartache traps in the simplistic thing absolutely and what we think is what was this all one time or just one simple thing yeah you actually just opened the door to something tremendous yeah but if you think about it if we think back to our days before the lord there was a initial act that was an invitation into a lifestyle that god would never been pleased with we if if we had seen the ultimate result of that simple choice in the beginning we never would have made it yeah so he uses the subtlety or the simplicity of a common thing to lure us into a place that eventually he hopes that the demonic can hide behind a thought yeah and produce behavior that would be um contrary to what god yeah what happens be it so he's very subtle about things that he does yeah yep and uh what's that comes at an angel of angel night yep i remember years ago when i was a teenager we had a member here who was a chronic complainer yes chronic i mean chronic yes and i was hanging around a person and then one day i said something and i said i sound just like wow and i'm a teenager i'd be like maybe 15 16 years old okay i think i was around that age but i thank god at that time i had enough sense to click what was on him started getting on me absolutely and i had to start putting some space in between myself and the individual because i was like wow i didn't realize again could quote great scripture yeah but had great complaints yeah great words of seeds that people plant uh that we allow people to plant in our hearts yep and with those seeds comes some kind of harvest yup and of course when the new testament describes how harvest comes it says first you see the leaf that doesn't look anything like this coming later and then you see something that imitates the fullness of the thing yep and the harvest is much later on absolutely and it's something that simple yep that little leaf you think you it's nothing yep and if you don't catch it when it's that little leaf yeah it'll turn into a whole absolute harvest of stuff absolutely and it just and it begins with a conversation you know we say all the time conversations can either begin or end the season yep yep and i think in the hebrew the biblical imagery is your mind is a gated or a walled city your mouth is the gate and if we start looking at our mouth as the gate into the walled city of our minds i think we'll be more careful what we allow to come in and out of this mouth the conversations we have because it's the entryway into our faults because the the the enemy is looking the demonic looks for a thought which to him is a window yeah or a door left open for him to come in and try to occupy yep there the the the disembodied spirits are always looking for a body to occupy which was why um the couple of thousand demons that were in the guy at the graveyard as you just you know can you send us over here to these pigs yeah because they don't like being disembodied they look for occupation absolutely yeah absolutely and they're searching what's that one scripture where it talks about you kick the strong man out and then he comes back with more after after we go after after that yeah um i think that will start think must be coming out um comes back seven it comes back seven times more that this is a spiritual warfare where it's not just a one time it's gone and and what happens is if i can draw a correlation between that particular scripture because it says he found that he came back with several others and i believe it says he found the house swept yeah but not occupied so the reality is is that we can the woman in the parable of the lost coin not only finds the coin in the house because of the light but she continues to occupy the house so the condition changes and she doesn't leave the place yeah so with with the demonic we have to make sure that the the the presence of god the word of god is now the resident yes so that that which we have been delivered from does not have another access point back into it absolutely yeah so you're saying fill yourself up with something yeah you got you got to occupy yeah here's here's the thing if the word is light and the demonic does not like light then what i want to do is read my word yeah so i can not only get light in my vessel in my house but i get light in my house i find things that are lost that i couldn't find before and and part of the demonic's job is to hide the truth from you and also uh make that place a safe dwelling place for myself so i have to intentionally expose myself to light because that's not where demonic wants to dwell yeah he likes a place where the lights are out in your thoughts yes yeah that scripture we did on wednesday in john uh john 3 where it talked about how people avoid the light so they can stay in the darkness that thing hit me yeah man so that means you know there's something in you that knows you're in the dark you just refuse to shine the lights because you're comfortable in the ignorance of that that's what that's yeah man jesus is talking there's an intention of keeping light out i think if you think back to your party days my party days um the party was jive if there was too much luck yeah and the bible also talks about the fact that you can get to a state in your spiritual life get so disconnected from god that darkness will become your light in other words darkness is the thing that attracts you yep and i believe uh the the the dark areas of our lives can be a place where the demonic tries to see if there's access yes yes yes wow so so we need to overcome and that's the constant warfare light and dark overcoming the darkness with the light and trying your best not to enjoy the darkness so much that you want to keep the light out you get lost in it yeah you know it's it's uh and and you know the modern church we have this uh either skepticism whether there are these you're in spiritual warfare whether you want to believe it or not yeah so but there are some christians that just are just in denial it's not happening and then you got the other side that you know there's a demon behind every door under every rock under there's one under this rug you know just waiting to jump out on you the fact of the matter is there has to be a balance yeah that they are real because jesus confronted them and defeated them so that means if i don't believe in them i'm not believing in the truth of the spiritual realm that we dwell in yeah because and make to make it perfect the conceivable is this you can't have a kingdom without having an enemy yeah yeah yeah and they're going to come i mean yeah when philistines heard that david was anointed the first response was let's go and stop this yep you know every time somebody asked it last week you know why am i struggling so much the more i've committed to god well darkness doesn't want you to be committed jesus john says it the darkness comprehended the cover he doesn't want to receive it no it pushes back against the light yeah it can't win though yeah but in people we have to be careful that we're not cultivating darkness yes for instance um if if you're a moody person you have to be careful that you don't feed your mood yes until you become depressed and some of us who are miserable are absolutely great at feeding our dark sides you know so we you know we we take a i was talking to a pastor a couple months ago and there was a misunderstanding in the thing and pastor told me that uh they had been up all night praying and travailing before the lord and i said about what would you lose sleepover yeah well i didn't understand well all you do is ask questions yeah you didn't have to go and turn inside yourself yeah and make it something you know uh connected to your self-esteem and yeah i must not be worthy of this i must not be that i must not be i mean that whole that whole crying to be delivered from something that you embrace and embraces you yeah because you have a difficulty being embraced by anything else but poor me yeah yep yep something as simple as it you just you just said the times when we need to be disciplined we get spiritual that's right we get deep rather than um what about our fresh practical practice glorifying our flesh yep you know you go into an all-night prayer session all you had to do was do this one thing yeah you know and and sometimes you know we take the ball and run off the field with it yeah you know how did you get over there yeah what i said was this yeah how'd you get all the way over there yeah because it feeds your stronghold absolutely absolutely and if we can learn anything from jesus he did not converse with the stronghold that was presented he just says it is written yeah boom case dismissed yeah yeah the problem with evie you had a conversation with the serpent which you should have just said god said leave it alone in the discussion but eve's concept of god was that god is hiding something from me which produced doubt which revealed fear which manifested in a lack of trust and then the serpent gets in the window right in that window right in that window did god say all started with a question that she could have asked god herself rather than being offended yeah man cause i'll tell you she felt too easy man she just oh no she was waiting to be offended she's waiting to be here some people live that way though yep you know and it's difficult to be around them if you're if you have to if you have to understand that the person that you're talking to is literally their bondage searches for words yeah to be offended yep and you and you know you're around that kind of person when that person only gets excited about the negativity yeah yeah if they if you tell them you know i got straight a's in school yeah oh that's nice that's nice tell them i got shot in school what happened yeah that's a bible though yeah you got some questions already yes the first question is from karen on youtube uh she's looking for some more understanding on the scripture ephesians 6 12 when it says that we wrestle against spiritual wickedness in high places okay it's pretty pretty clear i think a lot of people make that more complex than it is it is talking about the reality of wickedness being present not just in your immediacy but also in places of authority and that's recognizable and what god is doing is making us aware that that's where it dwells also because we tend to look at people in high places as if they have no dark sides next question i think you said the first attack is on the mind how do i know the difference between an attack and just having a bad day i i think that's a real question i think christians tend to throw everything into the attack cup enemies attacking me what happened my boss didn't speak to me today no no no that wasn't attack he just rude just like talking to you so that's not an attack but we we we present for people whose claim to have the victory we present ourselves as victims yeah way too much so when when the difference between a bad day is an attack is having the discernment to understand what ground is the enemy trying to gain that i have given the enemy an invitation to for instance if i'm a person who's rejection sensitive and i take a simple statement and make a mountain out of it it is feeding the bondage that i have in that area of my life so it's fortifying the stronghold and it gives it gives that evil thought a place to hang out and instead of killing that thought with the word of god whatsoever things are lovely lords everything's true yeah i feed or if you will fortify the bondage by searching for words that legitimize how i'm feeling yeah yeah and i i can't say that enough fear searches for words jealousy searches for words rejection searches for words and when you're searching for words you're searching for people that will legitimize how you feel so that makes my because it's legitimized you know i'm um i'm aggressive when really you might be mean or or or uh i'm i'm not miserable i'm just real serious i mean we put these real flowery titles on these things to legitimize a stronghold we may possess absolutely yeah i have struggled with depression and anxiety for years and have simply learned to live with it is this giving in and is or is this an attack of the enemy it could be if it's long term it could have become a stronghold if it's long term however what's lacking is uh that rest of god the rest rst of god the peace of god because the thing we have to be careful about about anxiety depression sadness is that though each of those has voices and when we respond to those voices christian people can start thinking the lord is speaking to them when actually their pain is speaking to them so we cannot substantiate a voice that we hear when we're hurt as god told me why because god would never say anything to you to distance you from him yep so he's not going to give he's not going to say something out of my pain it's going to take me away from him if he speaks to me in my pain it's going to bring me closer to him okay yeah and the root of why you're so depressed and anxious too i think we forget about that too oh yeah people there's a reason they don't look at this reason produce this yeah there's a reason yeah you got to do the work i've learned to be a good self-talker the older i get and one like for instance grief can manifest itself in anger depression all these things there are days where i'm like tipped off or i'm angry yep and you i don't know why yeah and you start talking to yourself you know okay i'm just grieving the loss of this yeah yeah and when you identify it it makes it easier for you to manage your feelings because you know the root the source of where it's coming from i'm not really angry i'm just sad and the sadness is manifesting in this format because if you connect the dots yeah sometimes something very subtle can trigger a major unresolved emotional issue yes yep and a lot of people what they'll do to assist you they think is avoid talking to you about these things yep when they're not really assisting you what they're doing is actually giving comfort to something yeah that is a negative in your life and what happens is some people are actually embraced by being rejected they're embraced by by by being um feeling sad they're embraced by you know because it gives them a sense of importance that at least this makes me significant yeah but it's it's it's a change of focus that's needed you know i gotta i'm i'm working on this thing now where this uh this this uh hunger and thirst is a demand that the body places on us that will not stop until it's satisfied right either going to eat that food or drink that water jesus says we need to hunger and thirst after righteousness and understanding that only person can satisfy that hunger and that thirst is him yeah but what that hunger net thirst does is take you deeper into his presence and finally you discover your identity in him yeah which means all that stuff that we were hungering for because some people hunger for disapproval to substantiate their identity you know i i hate it in church when preacher comes in and says everybody hating on you ain't nobody thinking about you god i hate that it feeds a bunch of stuff that the saints don't need to have yeah a legitimate let's be legitimized by a sermon yeah you know what it does is reveal a need to feel like everybody's against you yeah or everybody's paying attention to you it's the new self-esteem yeah anyway i'm sorry this question's been sit on facebook how do counselors therapists etc guard their spirits when they hear so much negativity and faith and faced with those kinds of spirits well i think it's we we hear a lot so we have a series of counseling sessions oh yeah we hear a lot of stuff and some of it is very heavy it's learning not to if i can say it like this um sit with a person in their struggles and help them but not take on their struggles and knowing after you had a series of hard counseling appointments and sessions let me take a breather real quick you know good self-care for the person doing a lot of that absolutely is is important we get sometimes we get caught up in helping everybody else and forget about ourselves but it's nothing wrong with saying i'm a leader i'm a pastor i'm a counselor therapist let me do something healthy for me sure to keep me going i i think i think one of the other things i think that has to be is that when you're in a counseling session i look at it as a negotiation in a negotiation what you have to do to negotiate successfully is get on the other side of the table with the person you're talking to yeah but many councils forget to come back on their side yep i'm over here so i can hear what you have to say but it and also give me a greater sensitivity to how to negotiate with you in this process but i've got to remember come back on my side of the table yep and if you do that consistently you won't attempt to bear a to to make a burden yours yes rather than bearing it for someone yep and there's a distinct difference the bible says i'm supposed to come alongside and help that's right that's why i'm supposed to take it all over myself come up under your shoulder and help you right i'll help you with it but they might cross the bear oh yeah what do you do when you notice a strong hold on your saved teenager the the only way to bring them down bring that thought down is through knowledge of jesus christ so the the walk with god has to be checked if salvation is not there then you know a parent begins to speak those things um through the word to the individual in the conversations but the other thing i think that's really important to understand is that we're coming up on father's day and what a revelation that god showed me was the power and the authority of a father to speak comfort and into a child's life and he's been given that special authority to do that um and and mothers know that because most mothers will say wait till your father comes home yeah because he recognizes the strength of that particular voice and the authority of it and the gravity of it yeah so so i think that what has to happen is this mother has to start speaking to her child now not in complex religious language not you know you got a demonic thought and all that kind of stuff yeah you know we you know you want to find out where this thing started so why did you feel that way can you think of anything that started this feeling that you had you know conversation biblical but looking back is not going back you have to connect the dots to get the deliverance and most people tell you just forget the past well if you forget it you won't disconnect from it so you have to connect the dots back to what's the remember one night i was in choir rehearsal and my my uh i was my minister music held me afterward to learn a song and i just couldn't concentrate so she asked me what's wrong with you i said what do you mean there's no number what's wrong with you yeah i said i don't know so she sat me down she said okay tell me about your day and i went through the day she said tell me about some of the small things that happened i started talking about small things and she said so which one of those connected you with some past pain and trauma wow wow and it was so small i had overlooked it and didn't think it was connected but i had a brief conversation trying to help someone that touched her tender spot in my own life and my mood changed until i came to rehearsal thrown off and didn't know i was yep yep something that small just crazy it happens all the time all right this is from robin when you study the word praise i'm not asking any questions when you study the word praising god why does the enemy come in your dreams even when you read god's word before bed that's the battle isn't it yeah yeah that's the battle and sometimes couldn't a dream be as simple as you're you rehearsing your mind going through your day something bad happened that day just kind of shows up in your dreams is that yeah cause like people don't realize you know you have one of those crazy dreams all right so you wake up you walk downstairs you're at the mall you turn right to go into a story at the movies yeah you know you go to go to the bathroom you had a restaurant i mean everybody's like how's this working how's this and all your brain is doing is mapping out the day that you've had yeah in very brief if you will quick photos uh it's nothing demonic it's just the way your brain works summarizing your entire day for you on the other hand if if i am absolutely uh focused on a problem and i seek a solution it's the enemy's job to wage war with that it says i think it's in uh mark four parable of the sower opposition comes as a response to you having received the word yep so it's appropriate it's just for us to wake up and know okay and the identification of that aspect of her dream tells her what to defeat yep but there would be no dream like that after reading the word if she had not received it by faith now the enemy's job is to come and try to pluck it out before and if you're not maturing you'll think the dream is a victory over what you've read this series has really helped me i now see my life has been a series of battles how do i release those people that have caused some of these battles in my life because i'm a shameless plug there's a series called letting go of toxic people that will really help with the process yeah but she's on the right track some people you may have let inside the fence of your influence we have relationships all over but not all of them can influence us so you'll have folk in your orbit that are not supposed to land on your planet so my point is she's got to start dividing who is going to be influential and who is not yeah and those people that she's identified as non-productive it's not that you're casting them away but you are putting productive distance between them protective distance between you and them this series has me wondering if when strangers ask to pray for me should i allow them to touch me should i trust that they are in agreeance of god's promise well i don't think you have to i think it's good to know whether a person is in the line with god's will but um asking them can you pray for me i think it's our duty to pray for people um i'm not sure what i mean by letting them touch you uh i think it may be trying to discern whether that's a demonic or an organic situation um i don't think you let strangers walk up on you and touch you anyway yeah right right exactly that's what i was thinking be quite honest i mean that's pre-code yeah yeah right you can pray not touch me but i think um depending on what ask them what they want you to pray for and then you can discern where there's something along the natural course of life or some kind of um deep embedded spiritual problems going on but however you know you can pray and and when all else fails my my my goal is if i don't know i don't touch them yep you know it prayer is still going to work but if i if i'm unsure i don't i don't have any physical content i have been frustrated with my life and feel like i can never get ahead is this feeling of constant doubt a stronghold yes because the thought is impacting your ability to do what you need to do so yes it has become one so another nice name for stronghold is bondage we can have we saved love the lord but still have struggles in certain areas that area of thought thought can be a stronghold thoughts produce some kind of behavior so if my thought is causing me not to fulfill my potential then i and i've been dealing with it for years that is a stronghold yeah all right y'all we're out of time we're done yeah that was quick uh we'll send you back up to uh sister long you know or if i'm in a great season it's like i love god for this moment you know so it's just continuous knowing that the flow is always going to be like the evan flow is always there i love anything else god i'm just thankful that i'm here right now i'm here and i'm just here just talking about your word i just feel your presence and i just thank you for always being present you know there are moments in our lives when we feel alone but god you're always there so i always thank you for just sending those reminders that you're there god father god there may be someone in the chat right now that's battling with something whether it's depression yes whether it's sadness whether it's loneliness or they may be dialing battling something medically father god i speak nothing but healing deliverance and victory over all right now guys i thank you for being a present god i thank you for being the same guy that you were five years ago and being the same guy today father god i thank you for blessing us and you know expanding our knowledge and our wisdom through the series this spiritual warfare and whatever spiritual warfare that we're battling right now i've reduced it
