been a hit on this morning between the worship and bishop's word i think today's service was just absolutely awesome it said it set the mood for this morning set the mood set the atmosphere but if you are looking here and you are geographically locked out you might be a part of our connections church and if you are not here is a little bit of a video telling you what the connections church is all about take a look connections church was birthed out of an inspiration from god regarding those who may not be geographically located near our physical ministry and then the wall of new jersey how much of a blessing uh bethany baptist connections has been to me and my family i now have access to um bishop and pastor nick and different classes and opportunities that i didn't have before we're going in veterans connections the connection church because it's another way for you to stay connected with us but you know one way to stay connected i'm brother kevin and i'm sister shania and you know we want to you know have a good time with you this morning so when engaged we like to play some games right and if you watched engage live this morning before eight o'clock service you saw that we we played a game called the chase yeah so what we're going to do is shania and i am is going to read some questions and we're going to see by hitting the buzzer who knows the questions first all team 9. all right i think we're ready for the first question go ahead all right first question bethany church has had many homes what year did we move into our current location in lindenwald new jersey oh i moved very fast but i really don't know the answer to that i'm a guest i'm gonna guess two thousand and one oh i was gonna guess the same thing are we correct being two thousand oh oh you're okay in the book blessed without scars bishop wrote about how to overcome the hurts of your past oh is this your true what do you think shania um i'm gonna say true yeah that's false we were both wrong okay one more bishop wrote about overcoming the hurts all right finish the statement faith acts like a thing is so even when it's not so okay it's on the tip of my tongue go ahead you got it say it again so we can say it together faith acts like a thing is so even when it's not why is i'm having a i'm having a brain fart this morning can you finish it off for us that it might be so there we go see and you know what we are just so hopeful because if we don't know it or if we forget it we have someone here that is always to help us and right now um like as sister shania said this morning that worship was incredible and the theme for this morning for that worship was just having that hope you know despite what you're going through right now god is still the same god that he was before and forevermore so for all those you know right now we've been dealing with so many things you know the tragedy in haiti hurricane ida yeah also yesterday celebrating 20 years of 9 11. you know there's still people that may be still hurt from that right so we just want to encourage people right now during this moment that god is still with us no matter what we may be facing just it's going to get better as the choir was singing this morning it's going to get better better so we want to encourage you right now that whatever you may be facing know that god is still the same god and that we are here which is why we stay connected during this time because i know there was a lot of people that may feel a little hopeful you know missing being in church and missing that connection right and the best way to stay connected is through prayer yes so you guys know every single week we ask you to drop down your prayer down in the comments because at the end of the day iron sharpens iron i love that scripture we are here to be here with you and i know you guys are there to be here with us so if you have anything that you need us to pray over drop that down in the comments we have amen and then we have miss brenda she says yes he has by walk by waking me up every day amen all right and then we have miss rhea yeah ms raya jones she says god has blessed me with my health and peace i think that is something that right now you need that health and peace yes especially the peace okay my mom always talks about her piece and she doesn't want anything messing up her piece and you need to stay peaceful in time such as this when things are going around and going crazy in the world having your peace is what you need in order to be able to make it and the last one we have light shaku which says he is always very good to me and my family absolutely i love that and we just want to encourage you guys as you see throughout the week we have so many different postings on time but this month in october is so important because we are celebrating our 54th anniversary here at bethany baptist church yes oh my gosh 54 years of lives being transformed lives being saved just growth i just know from my time being here i have grown year after year by the teaching by the worship and by you know volunteering in different ministries so i want to hear your story as well you know so many people have so many different stories especially if you come back from the old school bethany yes when i hear stories and see pictures i'm like oh my gosh that's what it yeah that's what show our church a lot of love for their first anniversary right yeah so you know we like to play games here and we don't want to just tell you what's going to happen what's going on this week no we know a panel okay you know there's a panel they come you know every once a month and they normally talk about business they give you some oh my gosh i have some great ideas about how to run a business gideon manoa and samson yeah yeah god has a way of calling those things that are not yeah still they are from abraham gideon uh you're mighty man of valor wait a minute i'm the poorest one from the worst family i'm the youngest child oh yeah abram abram how's it gonna happen yeah mary how's it gonna happen i know and god sends a conversation that includes a revelation that includes all the answers you need and it's amazing how the angelic message addresses the doubts you have about your ability to fulfill what god is saying you've been purposed to do absolutely and i love the patience of god the patience with angels oh yeah to continue the conversation when we're having a hard time receiving yeah what god has to say and i think you know to me a real god-given purpose dream vision okay requires faith absolutely so god if he knows us he has to expect some form of questions reasoning because it's so beyond our ability oh yeah what we could ever imagine oh yeah what we could ever think it wouldn't be supernatural if it was within our experience it is within a god-given capability but our experience gives us no indication that it's possible yes you know and i've been saying for the last few weeks the believer's stuff dwells in the impossible right yup what god has for you is in that place called impossible absolutely so that's why faith is so necessary to go into that invisible place and lay claim on what it is god has for us absolutely yeah so absolutely yeah yeah yeah i didn't see it as plainly as i did the obedience to the will of god guarantees the assistance of angels speaking the word of god initiates the assistance of angels walking in faith draws angels yeah and a witness of what god has done as you are prophetically proclaiming it to someone else will draw the assistance of angels because they will come and prosper your way yes if you would just do yes in response to god's word yeah if you follow the instructions it all just starts kind of now you have opposition but the angels are there to protect you and help you in those areas that's what love exodus 23 yeah that the angel will be in front of you yes you may have to do some fighting but he's with you you've got supernatural assistance in this bag yeah you know yeah i think it's it's um when i when i when i see how the angels are so involved the scripture we've entertained them unawares helps me to understand that if we endeavor to do something and it is successful and it prospers we have likely had or we have had angelic assistance along the way so we have entertained them unaware yep we say man that really worked out yeah when what it and when it was not only divine assistance but it was specific divine assistance yeah for what we were about to do if i'm correct help me if i'm wrong here when we were building this church here yes sir didn't you have an angel story or something yes sir um coming up the driveway one day building was probably 70 80 complete and of course there was scaffolding out on the front of the building because uh the the builder had to do the dove coming down from heaven and those symbols out there the wheat and all that had to go out there which now that i think about it was way ahead of its time yeah yeah uh especially with that dove coming down in the in the in not the traditional sense it looks like there's fire yeah coming with it you know so um i'm coming up the driveway and i look at the scaffolding and i i see something i'm like wow what is that and i get a little closer and it's actually the tarp has been blown by the wind into the form of an angel holding a baby okay now so i stood there yeah and then people started arriving who are you looking at looking at that so people you know i got pictures of this thing yeah so there's not like it kind of looked like yeah it looks like a statue yeah and then the wind blew uh and it was gone wow [Applause] but it was enough for me it was enough either yeah it was a ticket farm there yes sir it was good god was doing the work he was prospering our way yeah which made sense because every time everybody every time somebody got in the way mm-hmm they had to run into that angel and some stuff happened man the people that tried to rip us off yep didn't make it yeah they didn't make it yep you know and that further further confirmation it wasn't just like you saw jesus in a piece of bread it was uh there was enough people that saw it and so i wouldn't you know think i was crazy i took a picture of it i still have it in my office yeah so it's uh it's i'm like wow but you know we saw several things like that we the the flock of doves that circled the church two or three times and vanished we saw you know just those types of supernatural confirmations yeah that god was in the place yeah not to mention the fact we had a a mix shop as far as union was concerned yeah union and non-union working on the same job with no conflict the whole time yeah for 18 months so that was you know that was though yeah that was god prospering our way again absolutely yeah and i think it goes back to if you're in the will of god it's already blessed yes sir it's already worked out beforehand um and we can ask god prosper our way work it out but it's all instead of doing something then asking for god to work it out let me check first to make sure that's how you get in his will that's how you get this will yeah yeah slowing down before you make a decision but we tend to make a decision and they want god to fix it yeah when it wasn't god's will in the first place so we have to make sure we're in his will so he doesn't have to fix it yeah abraham and sarah and hagar let's create a situation and then ask god to work it out afterwards come on man when that was never in the plan in the first place no i don't know why we do that and we do it continually yeah um it's almost like uh we welcome the drama or we simply the the the the earthly fleshy side of us wants to be right without god's help yeah true yeah that's true yeah because i wouldn't keep doing it over and over if i wasn't trying to figure out a way to be right without him sanctioning what i was doing yeah that control piece yeah yes sir yeah so because so so god wants to prosper away and then the issue is the abram and the abraham the sarai and the sarah yeah you know um and all these different stories the old gideon versus the new getting that guy was making that continues to rear his head at us and that's that's that's the that's the inner outer man conflict i think um so we're in the garden of eden adam and eve are living in or out they fall and now they're living outer in yeah so rather than being driven by what's going on in my relationship with god i get driven by what my reasoning and my intellect tell me that oftentimes it's contrary to god's will for him absolutely and it certainly isn't faith yeah absolutely yeah and and it's it's we're not trying to make it sound easy because it can be difficult you think gideon he spends his whole life in the poorest family yeah poorest tribe yeah he's the youngest son yeah of his whole family that's all he knows the enemy is there he's threshing wheat in the wine press and all of a sudden this angel shows up and says hey you're a great man mighty man of valor and all get all getting is comfortable with this is is his experience and it's amazing i was studying this morning how we get so comfortable in something even if it's negative that when god presents an alternate lifestyle we rebel we rebel against it because one requires no faith it's what we know it's experiential even if it's not working yeah um we we uh we we tend to hold on to the familiar mm-hmm uh because we don't trust god enough for the new yep although we're asking for new all the time all the time we said it wednesday israel was asking god in egypt get us out of here when he gets them out of there as soon as they run into a test how can how can we go back it's like and and and and here's the delimiter for me is that when obama says they came out armed it literally means only 20 of them left so what is it about captivity that we find secure it's predictable it's predictable it's what we know captivity doesn't require faith yeah it's it's it's we're going to talk about it on wednesday in exodus 16 well at least he said it was better for us to have the bitter food of our slave masters you know while we were there rather than this miracle process because again it's comfortable it's crazy how we have a way of revisionist history yeah uh if we see it in america we see it within our own lives we paint the past in a fantasy rather than a reality we have to really go on we almost have to revise it to make it we have to revise it to make our desire for it acceptable yeah so egypt wasn't that bad yeah that whole relationship wasn't that bad yeah uh you didn't treat me that badly you didn't really say you didn't i didn't really mean that dear you know there there's there's this we revise it to legitimize it that's the way yeah absolutely yeah and fantasize about it yeah um rather than what it was and it's funny how with israel a present hunger gives a desire for historic bondage which means something you said the other night the bitter brook was not as much about the water as it would about the bitterness the fear and the doubt that was in israel yep yep because at least my captor my devil was taking care of me consistently in a comfortable place but isn't it amazing that even in egypt god was taken care of and that's the thing he was taking care of them the whole entire time preserving them and strengthening them for the next leg of the journey and and celebrated the enemy rather than moving forward so and it from gideon to manoa and his wife sure you know how can this happen angel's like look here's the process and he's gonna be a nazarite because first one didn't believe in that let's go get money bring them in there yeah and they're like how's this gonna happen because again i we're experienced at it not working now you're gonna tell me this time is gonna work that seems that seems to be a very common human characteristic walking our way through the entire bible we find and watch this we search for difficulty with god's will because i don't think we have a fundamental understanding that everything he commands us to do he's given us the ability to do it yeah so he doesn't command us for us to to fail he commands us because he knows we can succeed absolutely so we come up with some human reason from front to back from human reason from front to back as to why we should not be able to do it or why i need to have an exception that appeals to my intellect and my reason and not to the spirit of god absolutely absolutely got questions already so the first one is sometimes i feel like my faith is strong and sometimes i feel like i have no faith at all is this normal and does it keep god from blessing me it's normal yeah right right if we can raise our hands and join the club amen i think it's very normal but the positive side of that for me is indicating that i'm not com i haven't completed building my faith and it's in the days of doubt that you have to kind of and when fear slips in and doubtful slips in and disappointments are remembered that you have to realize at that point my faith still needs to grow absolutely absolutely and i think one of the simplest things you can say when doubt creeps in rather than get kind of um condemned is to ask jesus to increase your faith yeah search for it yeah search for it because we you know if we look at other religions past the neck there the focus of the worship is extra so they're searching for that symbol the focus of our worship is internal so we so we we if you will probe and release where where others search and hope they find yeah because the kingdom of god is within us presence of god is there if jesus tells us don't pray like the heathens that's right saying a bunch of stuff hoping that the person wins that's right pray like your father knows what you have need of and talk to him out of that so it's like it's like a different it's like if i know you're available and i'm searching for you my faith is different because yes yes it is and we talk about having the holy ghost all the time yeah but i'm not sure we have a full revelation of what that means all that god has now dwells within us so we are not searching like looking out there we're probing to find we're searching here yeah to find all that god has for us absolutely it's so it's a it's a probe and release yeah rather than a search and hope i find yeah yeah do you think um we especially as minorities we reduce a lot of things to feelings absolutely faith has feelings yeah but i don't think faith is all feeling no it well that's the mistake we make okay i think that's i think that's the that can be a fault with our worship yeah because if it is all emotionally driven in how i feel then i believe it has not gone past the first two stages of our being which is flesh and soul when worship and praise and prayer and the word of god are designed to move us in our spirit right so we can be excited we had a good time but did you end up closer to god today and i'm not sure we answer that third question yes because we equate excitement to god absolutely yeah okay i love when you mentioned that angels act on faith do angels also come to warn us about certain things or people in our lives absolutely i think um i think it's the cornelius story that an angel comes and gives him a warning concerning what he should do i also think that when the angel came and talked to joseph and said you guys got to get out of dodge go over here um and and stay there for a minute you know until god gets finished doing what he needs to do yep yeah so yes uh so this next question is from jamira she says so i know that it's not good to be isolated from people however if we need a break from people to heal is that okay um can we take this time to be alone and recover i i think it doesn't have to be this or that i think at times you have to take uh you can take a a a distant emotional break from people who habitually hurt you yes yes it doesn't mean that you need to exclude the people that are helping you so we have to know who to put distance in between and who not to because what the enemy wants us to do is fold up our tent completely and break contact with everyone those that are good for us and those that are not yeah if we be real here i'm not a big you know church hurt person yeah you get hurt everywhere yeah everywhere job yeah family i never understood that yeah i mean i'm i'm not denying that people get hurt in church because they get hurt everywhere they get hurt everywhere but with god the community watch this you get hurt in church but guess where you get healed healing is in the community yep god never ordained god doesn't want us around hurting people no but things happen yeah but people disagree people disagree but i think healing comes in the community the church and we talked about a communion we're going to go back to it in october god has called us to a community and healing is supposed to happen in that community absolutely we get so called up our individuals absolutely but it's supposed to be communal and and and those of us that are that are immature will seek that healing outside the healing place yes yep it's like if i don't like a hospital 10 minutes from my house it's not going to stop me from going to one a half an hour from my house you understand what i'm saying so i don't kill all hospitals because i got hurt by one individual in one place absolutely i don't stop going shopping at macy's or whenever it was because i run into one clerk who's having a bad day right yep just go to a different register i'll go to another department it's cool god has been so good to me and my family how do i not get comfortable with god's grace sometimes i feel like i am taking god for granted i think personally and i'm sure you can fully validate this when you're consistent and when you're constantly good sometimes people take that for granted okay because they're used to you being absolutely a certain way reliably reliable and reliability can produce in gratitude at times absolutely absolutely right and they think because i see you being ungrateful but i keep being consistent right and sometimes if a person's not mature enough they won't say hold up real quick i haven't shown my appreciation to this person you know but surely says you know let me respond in the right way right immature people look at it and say well they didn't say nothing these past couple days so let me keep being yeah you know i i think we're not reflected yeah um and i think reliable people have to get used to being taken for granted yep only consistency produces yeah someone who feels like they can take you for granted yep so what we don't what what we complain about is inconsistency what we what we what we criticize is consistency what we underrate yeah and and look at um without concern is consistency although we want it when we get it it sometimes even develops into an entitlement we have to we have to constantly check ourselves yeah to make sure that we are perceiving the world around us through the mind of christ because if it doesn't you will flip into what i call a babylonian mindset and that is it's all about me it's all about yeah yeah i think going back to um the message in january or every one of them um sit down at the table let's talk about the goodness of god all throughout the old testament even in some of the new testament god is constantly reminding his people rehearse what i've done for you absolutely he's telling us that for a reason because he knows our thought process can move into ingratitude and the constant remembering of what god is doing and has done keeps you in the place of gratefulness yeah you know it's just write the word on your house they put the word on their door post when they were going out they were coming in it's a constant reminder i don't think that intentionality is something that the people of god understand the importance of it i think i think there's some things it's like you know when we see people who are consistently doing what they believe to be the right thing they're doing it intentionally now it looks habitual because they've made a habit out of it right but not have it in the sense of spontaneous but habit in the sense of responding to the demands of their day and the accountability and responsibility of their purpose yeah so in that consistent accountability and responsibility you develop what is perceived as a if you will uh spontaneous consistency yeah but no because to be consistent you have to be consistent through good times bad times ups downs challenges no challenges yeah so and it's i think when people look at consistent people they um they tend to uh take that for granted yeah yeah all right so this is from audrey on youtube should we add to our prayer lord please let my decisions of the day be in your will because we make so many small and unconscious decisions today oh yeah oh yeah that's that's wise yeah yeah yeah yeah that was simple yeah that's that's a good addition yeah we all we all could probably use that right right put that on the refrigerator door man all right this is from ty since our loved ones don't turn into angels does god disguise our loved ones as angels to come to us my nana came to me in a dream and that message positively changed my life's trajectory it wouldn't be angelic i've yet to figure out biblically what's that all what that's all about i i have um had dozens and dozens of those experiences by people that have passed away uh and many times i think the dream is to reveal god's reality for that person but also for you i don't know have you found anything that specifically speaks to that inscription well let's go back to some orthodoxy real quick okay for years the early church it is scriptural too that the heavenly host when it talks about the great cloud of witnesses absolutely they're actually praying for us absolutely worshiping around the throne and talking to god on our behalf right and that's not a foreign concept to a lot of orthodoxy okay um so when they have non-orthodox that's that's fine considers far okay so almost spooky almost spooky yeah so when you have when they have like they call like a patron saint i don't believe in praying to the same no but a lot of orthodoxy they believe that the saints are praying for us and there is biblical you could actually go through the bible and talk about that yeah um and i remember that and i wonder if that dynamic is the saints are speaking to jesus and jesus is living to make intercession for us the saints are praying for us okay it reminds me the time and watch this it happened here once and i'm struck i'm not sure people tied it together biblically the time when prophet almatang was here yeah and he talked about um why is his name green eyes light skinned why's his name slipping in my mind right now it doesn't matter go ahead you don't talk about it yeah he said uh cyrus is he's going to go to a party go to the party thompson thompson because why there's an angel in heaven by the name of edward thompson that's praying for him and people started shouting but they they might have thought that was when he was alive no that was why he was yeah he was he'd been gone he'd been going but he was interceding for him while he was in heaven yeah so that is a biblical reality the saints are witnesses are witnesses to us can you explain what you said about faith again uh that faith is not a feeling i'm a little confused on that okay the dilemma for us is that we often allow our feelings to impede our faith when in actuality faith is not an emotion that's why faith is supernatural that's why faith is but i believe in my heart that along with faith comes a feeling that feeling that you get when you expect a thing to happen that thing that feeling you get when a promise is made to you anticipation if i can attach an emotion to that expectation attach an emotion to that hopefulness attaching emotion to that the dilemma is allowing our feelings to drive our faith rather than our feelings to be in response to our faith if that makes sense sometimes my four-year-old son seems to be having a conversation when there is no one in the room to tell the truth it scares me a little bit but how do i know he's talking to an angel and not a demon or some kind of negative spirit well number one will be the expression on his face yeah um number two it'll be the what he comes away with uh kids are very expressive something scary probably be up in your arms already but um the children tend to have that um non-barrier-like relationship with the kingdom of god even when they're infants yeah and even sometimes the four-year-old might be just talking and having a uh playing a game and talking to themselves it depends like you said the circumstances yeah you gotta you gotta check it out because kids be by themselves playing with toys talking to themselves they got this whole world going on in fantasy every now and then they do something every now and then there's something different what's happening this is no something else going on that's all i have at the they had a lot of nuggets that they dropped them today i think the one that definitely stood out for me was when bishop and pastor nick were touching a little bit on you know when you feel as if you may need to like somebody asked a question and they were asking you know what do you do if you feel as if you need to pull away but not pulling away from everyone understanding who you need to pull away from and understanding who you can still be who you are with whoever i know that definitely spoke to me because even like with work and stuff like that and things that are going on in my own personal life it can be a little hard and sometimes you take a lot of the criticisms or what people are saying to you to heart and you allow that to be the reason why you don't speak or the reason why you're not truly yourself so that in particular was what helped me on this morning what about you yeah i'm gonna piggyback off that because i think that's very big for me i'm very big on assessing my circle yeah and assessing who has so much access to me so one of the biggest lessons that i've learned by you know grown in christ is that you know you can't call everyone your friends you can love everyone but you got to make sure that you have a found like a solid foundation especially as you grow in faith grow with your relationship with god so i definitely would agree with that so with the discussion discussion was amazing but as well as eight o'clock service yes so what was your biggest take away from eight o'clock services i already know because we're gonna say i know we're gonna say the same thing it's gonna be the worship it was the word oh my gosh it just set the word up to just that's what i love about our worship here like lonnie in the choir they just know how to just you know get us in a place where we're just vulnerable but also listening to god's voice and knowing when not to move because honestly if lonnie would have moved from where he was it might have it might have shifted something but the fact that he listened to god yes and he stayed exactly where god told him to be that it even stopped me in my attraction getting ready this morning i said wait a minute we always been late to engage live because we were just in that worship moment right literally i was running late this morning because of the worship thank you lonnie hunter but no i think that was my biggest thing as well because um that's why i love worship is so important because it just set you up to receive the word and actually just resonate and listen to god right yeah so you just open checkers is um as i always say on a recap that this is this literally is a blueprint of how to deal with spiritual warfare yeah i feel like our you know our mental um our spirit everything has been tested throughout this time yes um and bishop is just how he just i call it like a curriculum and each chapter is like a teacher he's the teacher so it just shows us in different areas of our lives how that spiritual warfare comes about how about you yeah i i i definitely can relate it's i can't even talk no you're not here we can relate to that specific statement it definitely is the proof point the blueprint jesus for what our trajectory is and spiritual warfare is a huge a very huge thing and even working in the hospital and being around all of the different patients mental health is real yes it is it is extremely real so allow having our pastor be our teacher be our leader and diving straight into it and letting us know exactly what it is that we need to do is absolutely it's great so if you are not already in with this chestnut checker series we want you to get on board with us now and watch us on sundays but you know not only watch us on sundays but watch us throughout the week yes so starting on monday we have maximized monday at a different time today i mean well tomorrow not today at 12 p.m so pastor nick and sister maya they'll be on there so make sure that you different parts of today's service and then what's going on tuesday we have our diamonds women's ministry and reverend kelly is stirred up in the spirit she is ready to bring you an awesome word on you know so we are in the month of september and school did just start yesterday all of our kids are back in the school for the most part and it's a little bit a little bit different because we haven't been back in school we haven't seen our teachers face to face since year and a half two years ago um so we just want to make sure that our kids are stirred up that they understand who they are in christ and what they need to do while they are in school that they are leaders okay they are not followers so we want to make sure that we continue to encourage them we want to give them powerful words and you know help them stay connected during this time as well right because just as much as we're connected they need to stay connected as well and this is the church that has everything for everyone everyone so we definitely want to highlight our students and make sure that they are charged up to just you know accomplish their school year but you know what instead of us talking about it yeah we have some a video form right so take a look hi i'm ramona phillips i'm one of the teachers with the youth evolve ministry in september we are starting up our youth embrace discipleship classes still on zoom via zoom but every monday night from 7 to 8 p.m and saturdays from 10 15 to 11 15 a.m now we're offering these classes to the first and twelfth graders and if they're not finished or they all went back into school god i pray god that we would use wisdom while we were in their mask up wash our hands and stay safe oh god in the mighty name of jesus allow them to learn what they
