Does A Pillow Work As A Silencer?

if you've ever seen the movie from like the forties especially what about the Mafia or something you always see there's always some bad guy who goes up in a room somewhere with a pillow and a gun puts the gun right up to the pillow on someone and shoots it and it supposedly works as a silencer no Jerry Miculek tried this and he said it worked but what I want to see is how much does it actually work so as you'll see I have my decibel meter right here we're gonna take a couple shots with out anything on the gun and then I'm gonna put the fill over it and we'll see how loud it is with the pillow on the gun all right we're going there's nothing to suppress the sound and I forgot air protection so these are my earplugs let's shoot I forgot to set it to read the max there we go one eighteen point seven one twenty point seven one 18.9 so without anything to suppress the sound coming out of the handgun you're looking at roughly one hundred and nineteen hundred nineteen point five decibels on average so now if we use the pillow alright Jerry I'm putting faith that this actually works because all right nine millimeter in the pillow see it uh quiet but it only went up to 102 decibels this is the entry hole that is the exit hole big difference that one was a bit louder one 17.4 but I think I shot through the same hole so we're going to do that again 106.5 and I'll do one more one hundred ten point nine so the last shot I did read over 110 decibels but you can see that the exit hole is getting quite big and it's actually burning up the pillow so after the first shot the pillows kind of useless but it does work decently well it takes it down from the sound of a nine-millimeter to about the sound of a 22 when I shot the 22 in the video where I compared the sounds of the guns though 22 is right around 102 104 decibels I don't remember which one 102.3 so anyway a pillow does work as a silencer and you know what that means right we need to ban assault pillows [Music]
