i'm going to show you how i made this legal suppressor for less than 20 bucks worth of parts yeah it's true all the parts for this suppressor cost me less than 20. 19.99 to be exact including tax and shipping costs now the caveat here is that you still have to pay the 200 penalty to the government for your atf tax stamp and i did pay 20 for the engraving from a guy that i know so my total cost for this was 239.99 the only way to get it cheaper is if you source the parts for free or cheaper and or if you do the engraving yourself so let me make a disclaimer before i go any further about building a form 1 suppressor the atf and dhs are really cracking down on homemade suppressors made from solvent traps or fuel filters just recently they seized the website lafoe auto or lafo auto however you say it and they replaced the home page with this scary looking banner straight from the early days of the internet recommending that you voluntarily contact them if you bought anything from the website which i'm sure that everybody has done at this point my recommendation if you want to build a four month suppressor is to get your atf approval first regardless of how we all feel about having to pay a 200 tax penalty to have a suppressor it's a legal requirement and i don't recommend trying to get around it i wouldn't recommend having the parts on hand or even thinking about using anything to make a suppressor before you have your approved form one unless you have a ton of money stashed away to spend on legal fees you don't want to be the guy that spends a half million dollars to fight the good fight so just get your atf approval first and before i go on please hit the like button leave a comment and subscribe if you haven't already thanks guys i appreciate it so here's the beginning of the build per se not drilled out yet i have my engraving done i do have an approved form 1 on hand i'll show you the overlay of that right here i recommend you not attempt to do any portion of the actual drilling part of your form one suppressor until you have your approved form one so i do have big brother's approval so let me go ahead and take this apart on camera or off camera and show you what's inside so i have here an aluminum tube an end cap that screws in right there seven baffles and one spacer i believe that both end caps should be able to unscrew this is the one that actually has the half by 28 thread already threaded i think they should both be able to unscrew but i couldn't get this one off so it may be put on there with some kind of thread locker i think even with this already on there this by itself is not a suppressor it is at best a flash can which will redirect the muzzle flash forward but not actually dampen any sound of the report from the bullet so you should be okay i mean never take advice from somebody on youtube but i can't imagine that being in possession of this alone without any of the baffles drilled out would get you in trouble with the atf and now it's time to start drilling the baffles out so here it is after everything's been drilled out it's not always going to look pretty but when you're paying 20 bucks for a suppressor it's not about how it looks it's about function so i'm gonna go ahead and put this all together and then show you the finished product so here it is all drilled out and assembled i'll try to give you a view down the middle there you can see uh it's tough to tell but i will take it out to the range and we'll shoot it and we'll see how it comes out [Music] so [Music] [Applause] so i have a decibel meter here i'm going to get some shots with my ruger sr22 and first i'm going to do it non-suppressed and then suppressed and see how much the suppressor actually brings it down i was getting in the low 90s so the maximum was 91.9 now with the suppressor on i'm gonna fire and see what kind of report we get it was coming at 86.5 there's two 86.5s at an 86.2 so that was the maximum now i'm going to shoot the m p 1522 and see what kind of sound we get on that the maximum was 91.2 minimum that doesn't matter and now with the suppressor on max was 86.9 so i put about 300 rounds through it when i shot and this is what it looks like these are what the baffles look like after shooting i really need to get it cleaned out it's kind of hard to see in there and see how let's see like there you go this is how it kind of looks if you zoom in a little bit you can see inside it is filthy so i'm going to go ahead and clean this up at some point but just kind of wanted to give you a look of how the baffles are after a few hundred rounds so i'm not sure how much i trust the decibel meter that i was using i would have expected the reading to be higher than the low 90s unsuppressed but we're going to go with that since that's what was showing up so it looks like the suppressor was showing a sound reduction of about five decibels which isn't great and is not what you would want to get if you were paying 500 bucks for one but i'm fine with it for my purposes considering that i paid 20 bucks for the parts it's hard to distinguish noises on camera but in person it sounded much quieter suppressed than it did unsuppressed much more than a 5 decibel difference so if you've made it to this part of the video please take a moment to thank the youtube overlords for not forcing this video be removed i'll see you next time god bless
