that's how crazy it is and in case you don't know I'm talking about the number one DJ in the world one of the number one hit makers in the world one of the number one hustlers in the world constantly doing this big [ __ ] DJ god listen that was that intro was nice for the hora legend there I appreciate it's gonna book Khalid let me get right into it right let me just get right into I'm sorry I'm lot of people just think that you just started and you just came this guy a lot of people don't understand the grind from the beginning well last people I mean I understand it I've seen some other generics right yeah the world so how did you actually Kaiba leave its Louisiana then you move to Atlanta so I was raised in Florida I was born in New Orleans but I was raised in Florida and while I was living in Florida I went back to New Orleans again because my finances wasn't right how to get back on my feet and my mother father lived in Florida at one time but they went back you know everything got cooking away from them you're saying basically like she got real you saying and it was happened to me when I was like 15 and you know god bless me means let me see the blessings and then you let me see how cooking would be taken away you know out of young age so that's what you know you see a lot of me and a lot of my talk that's just me you know my experiences of real life so I lived in Miami for over about 27 years I would say 25 27 something like that so I've been raised in Florida I'm saying I live in Orlando for a few years too but Miami was my home my heart and it's been over 27 years we live in a sin of more than 20 years you know that's your life damn near born this is my home is what I represent this through when I scream and I love foot I'm saying but you know just to answer your question you know I mean I became dj khaled you know I'm saying right here in Miami I'm saying you know me and him used to rocket Club cream saying I fit the Washington cream was like one of the first and you know what I love about y'all relationship is because he reps you so hard so he would bring you to do shows a Miami either would bring them bring you down and I just love how y'all partners and and how the friendship but let's take it from this so wit what did you start out first was it DJing or was it good I'm so DJ our DJing um at an early age I would say probably about 13 14 in New Orleans or Norlin Oh in Orlando and then I came to Miami you're saying so you know start DJing early you saying and um as soon as I started DJing I immediately got into production so you know back in them days you know I was called the beat novocaine those DJ Calvin be novocaine and you know nobody knew me just living my dreams you actually press to the but instant MPC 16 or so drum machine look you know Casio keyboard you're saying like with a lot of vinyl record obviously we sampled a lot at that time you say so I was I was more of um MPC and a lot of turntable sampling okay you're saying so and that's how the music was putting it out at that time so production and DJing was kind of like together but I vecino DJ broke the doors down for me and saying uh so you were producing from the gift yeah for sure for sure mix 96 days so I started teaching and um you know when I came to Miami I end up doing underground radio he brought up my mix 96 I call a community radio but they call it so I would when I used to do miss out he six it was crazy man because I'm shouting to butter foucault daddy saw and everybody was that mix 96 and I'm I remember coming in there with like 25 crates and I'm like yo I wanna I want to rock you and they're like you know I I was so persistent and consistent and they finally let me on and it was a late night show and I was no I've ripped it down and everybody was calling up like who's this guy who's this guy his voice is the way you play music you know they show love you're saying and um I ended up rocking so much got the calls from a city from the streets we just keep coming in coming and coming in but at the same time is all we had like a one-hour show what happened was you know more how can I be down without hell yes I'll do so how can I be down was in Miami all the DJ's wanting to go to the convention I want you to be on the radio so I stayed on the radio everybody left her show so now I'm doing the afternoon show them gonna show the night show slept in the apartment it wasn't a party that's not 99 you know the station the the floor under you was 94.7 yeah that was at that station literally are we're not we're not rival yeah radio stations houses yeah that's the locations you know that you know the receivers somewhere you know what that makes system stress in Barbados it was in an apartment in New York you got your Miami didn't have come the commercial radio wasn't really we just playing that's why I love being on the shoulder cuz he was playing it too well and I was playing it and um so now I'm on the radio everybody hearing me the whole city of Miami embracing me but also when people came from out of town because everybody come to Miami yes you're saying especially at that time I'm or they weekend how can I be down everybody coming so all the artists end up coming you know calling about your Calhoun up so you do anything boy you coming up and you're alright just ripping it down right and then um Fat Joe will come to myself Big Pun will come to my show camera will come to my show chaos swarm will come on my show and rap for like two hours straight not with one break you saying I woke up will come on my show you know every artist will come on my show um and you nice when they came in town but the city of Miami you know saying rapped me so hard and I Bret the city of Miami so hard you know what's every day you heard Calvin on the radio right like you know that's just part of a gay and a life in Miami get in your car you in your crib you're gonna hear dj khaled so you know and then it got bigger than then uncle Luke call me sadder Luke Luke called me like y'all want you to do my new show on 99 Jamz it's the big station so he gave me the opportunity which is equivalents like aha 97 right right right so I ended up doing whole [ __ ] co-hosting with him and DJing on the Luke's on Friday night and I still kept my underground radio I was I'm making hot hours a week right I'm saying straight up uh hustling this is driving show is jumping what a crate is though 25 crates of record crates yes I understand on a try rail yeah that's the train and get into the you know like back in our days it was in biscayne view I'll say it now we'll get raided back this you know eventually you know no way I have no idea with a DJ on a show and a co-host and that show nori it was so big not just big in Miami big in the world so he gave me that opportunity and I and I'm very grateful for that opportunity because um not only did it get super big you know I mean it was so big that it had to come off the air Oh because it was just to being Luke was torn and um we did the show for you know four years and and when he left Radio I end up they end up keeping me to doing the Friday night show so I was grateful for him to give me that opportunity so I started working at 99 Jamz and from 99 Jamz on Friday night's show I went to having a Friday night show do a five o'clock mix in the afternoon and sometimes do the night show mix at 9:00 o'clock but then eventually make a long story short they gave me my own show um saying I end up doing the night show like i'll flex throughout the night show so i'm breaking records down like i'm breaking records I'm breaking every record I'm breaking records in Miami I'm breaking records at whatever great music I would break it I was passionate I would I damn near I got fired or suspended so many times for breaking I play Rick Ross record hustling for like an hour strength right the program director at that time called up like yes that's something I'm sorry is that something you got from Funkmaster Flex I'm definitely inspired by fire yes breaking records bringing it back remember you broke that Garcia record for us yes I think it was the first time you actually did that big and then but the way you did no I heard you do that yes I tell the first time I heard you do this I got suspended right I do the same thing he got suspended again and threatened to fire me I'll say listen you don't have to fire me because I know what this is and I know what this is gonna do for the city right I was playing Ross trick cleaning up it bold you know let's go on it's too many records a name but um it was the reason I'm bringing up hustling because that's a moment that nobody can free kid yeah I remember that you Sam and everything I did on the radio I did in the club I did in the club and play for y'all so rock the club prevalent being Memphis who come in the club you're saying and you know maybe I hunt these 500 of them you're saying they always showed me love and they even come Rock matter of fact I was probably um I met Jeezy mmm I know Jeezy as just being a street dude then they say your plate is wrecking end up being Jeezy and the place is erupting you're saying so like in so many special moments that Prive and I'm watching I'll be getting to that hold on this table rust attempt you got a lot to do with Rick Ross and Gigi squashing a beef right yeah well you know Ross my brother's family and Jeezy my brother him saying and um you know you know Ross home team and whatever the situation was me personally I knew it wasn't nothing there's got to be miscommunication whatever you know um cause the energy bit was it it was my duty as a friend cue every day bring up yo they sit down it might have took a few years but I always brought it up to sit down um saying and um we finally sat down with me Ross Jeezy and hip-hop okay you're saying and I taught I taught her Jeezy so many times and I think Ross end up bumping in Jeezy one time and you know and just you know I can feel like the energy was getting closer where you know we could sit down you're saying that the BT Awards I thought that was there at the BT you were sure you're saying you know it's always uh I guess what they say got a tension in them saying but I know it wasn't nothing for them to be beefing you're saying cuz Belial that's a big word you're saying and at the end of the day as a friend as a brother and for hip-hop I felt like you know cat wasn't all for you-let's he loved him saying so both of them felt comfortable talking about any situation with me you saying so we eventually sat down and it's crazy we sat down it was beautiful was in the studio and um we made two records he was saying one for you know he cut one with Ross Ross coupling with him um Sara like for both albums you know I mean it was just incredible managed to see them brothers come back together and the only thing I wish man I wish see you know they never had that situation because I love to hear them to make an album together you're saying about saying and many tours they miss together cuz those true was so powerful yeah I'm so shut out the Rick Ross my brother you know I ain't on a lot of Rick Ross albums like you know a lot of people you know like you said you see my success now but they don't realize Kallie not just a DJ and a producer but also a music executive right you're saying if somebody I played the background you know I was blessed and all records with Ross and punch and you know I mean just classic albums like Teflon darling deeper than rap you know there's many more him say I was blessed I was I was president of Def Jam South my office was in Miami and LA Reid put me in position you know New York and Miami back and forth so I was blessed with all this you know energy and responsibility at the same time I was shaping up my career I'm saying so everything was like each key leads to the next key you were saying I said you know cuz the keys never run out so I was just like to be able to make and sit in the studio with Rick Ross and watch them cut these classic albums and records and you know I mean and you Peter and on the credit even executive produced one of them with them you know I mean I want to thank Ross that's all for believing in me and I want to thank LA Reid for believing in me you know I mean and giving me that opportunity because they can never take that away from me because it's a classic and Ross Everett Ross jumped on every single record I ever asked him to jump on he's on every single album I ever put out that's just one of my great relationships you say oh you know he brought his name up I want to make sure that I give him his flowers cuz he's a legend so something that went over my head just now was you know when we interview people we always go to their music we didn't have to do that with you because we know your music right but we was going to your music anyway but someone or someone pull up my boy Diego pulled up on an Instagram and it's something that blew over my head I had liked the picture but I didn't know what I was like and I've seen it there's an over yo it was oh wow not over yeah it was an owl with the key in his mouth yeah so I'm not gonna lie I like the picture but I didn't know what I was like yeah yeah and my boy said that's great god yeah yeah on the next well I think I am working on a new album you know speaking of albums in catalog you know saying have 11 albums out there make some noise for that and I'm working on the 12th album and um yeah but you know it's Alan key and I can't even you know this this drink chance dream chance I can't even I can't even do the yeah drink is definitely on um dj khaled a single and the vocal sounds so yo Fredo you know frequency that [ __ ] the Sonics the way that [ __ ] sound it's just it's incredible you don't say like oh that's that's my brother Matt's like family to me you Wayne and Ross was on that tour - and um me and Drake would go in the studio I would say in our records for Ross like Aston Martin when he recorded some of that you know you know Ross said it to him behind a be in the studio singing some of the creation and of course um you know working on my projects and we always talked about doing something and he blessed me he blessed me he blessed me with a verse in the hook so he blessed me like he he loved me he want me to win so he's got your calor check this out and I'm like who beat was that um t-minus two darling okay so I'm like what the [ __ ] I this music but not even just making it I love also being behind the scenes of up and behind the scenes there's so many classic [ __ ] you know I mean as a kid growing up and then as a music executive that's another record I did with JC future and Beyonce I came to jail the baby yeah top of the Maybach LM a shining with jay-z and Beyonce record I produce you're saying so I was saying to myself like on top off I came to jay-z to get it on get on it he got on it and when he played me his verse I was like I got an idea mmm why don't you bring the Queen in right here mmm that's a crazy question to like oh [ __ ] they played me the record and it's Beyonce on there I'm losing my mind also didn't tell you seize on it you just think you coming in for so long I'm only grateful that jay-z's gonna clear it I'm good I got holds on you know I'm new so much no you know when Beyonce's a woman I'm like in the corner I get nervous right yes you should I just want to say hi and I want to leave because I'm just like yes she got so much this is Beyonce and this he acts normal but seeing that no yeah so but let me tell you step off yeah you know I gay you know I producer move ever on Beyonce's Lion yeah just so you know I was blessed have two cribs in Miami I saw one of them and I want to shout out a danger too cuz uh he did some programming on move forever with me that's my man also um there's got involved and that's just a beautiful thing cuz um you know working with Beyonce you don't know I say you shot music or something you don't know what to you know say you wake up in the morning and in the game she put she helped change my life bro she put me on on formation tour you've said she on J am Beyonce put me on the run tour like I'm forever grateful for Beyonce jay-z what they've done would with soap flying like pumped in and you know be like yo I got your calendar console counter Patrick Allen it was it was a beautiful um saying um and like you know we made um the shiner record and when I made the silence what I made honey I remember hearing that sample one time I was at a Zuma private room eating sushi and [ __ ] this record came on I'm like [ __ ] I'm gonna sample that [ __ ] don't the restaurant you could pull up in a boat before I were young this was in New York I was oh so I heard his sample and on my [ __ ] I'm gonna go sample that [ __ ] him saying so we got the sample um um sample idea came from me being at the restaurant it's not hurting but you know you get Beyonce was I came to see J and I seen J Adam at his office in New York and I played him I said can I come play you some [ __ ] that come through so I brought my speaker I played on the beat and he was his night so I seen his head moving right like I mean like this I said oh [ __ ] so I like this saying he's still like this and I'm like oh [ __ ] so I would like this no sad and then I start seeing life like I in his head oh [ __ ] so I'm looking at Lenny now I'm like Lenny has look I like your lady you know got his hat on he could know cuz he got love for me and that's a big big homie so he's like kind of hold still composure nope not playing sad she says oh my oh [ __ ] up to me so boom he's at yo you know leave that with me you're saying he confirmed nine he just I leave that with me so alright cool so that night I went to UM I had to do some at the ESPN thing in the Barclays how did you like a presentation and introduced and saying and the bra was getting honored that night and I didn't know jay-z was gonna introduce an honor LeBron I just got that seeing Jay at the office so I'm not doing my thing at the you see I come out backstage I see Jay I'm like oh [ __ ] what's up my brother you're sayings like that [ __ ] is hard with you what you gave I'm like and um so I missed some in the office I also said you should let the Queen hear this too he really looked at me like I was like ladies to let you got me yeah you yeah he's looking at me like you have a minute and don't you ever made a truck in a long time so boom when I seen him backstage he tease gave me that look like like I'm proud of you and I'm [ __ ] with it tight look so I'm like you know I'm I'm playing smart not doing too much my brother um cuz I say night was the rock nation Christmas party so y'all I'm gonna see you at the Christmas party I'm avoid and beat you there to it so I go backstage and I see a bunch of SUVs and my man said y'all think Beyonce's in am i yo go to our car it's not tell me soldier walk to our car and it's gonna stay focused walk to the car we get to the party I had to party so bowling we had a party they ended up getting this I'm chilling and somebody grabs my past my shoulder is and I'm like this and I turn like this and should um Beyonce goes y'all like that record some like my shoulder and music was play so I think she said like somebody I like that record and first of all I turned my head you don't start struggling I see Beyonce I wasn't sure then when I do that I see from the behind I see hope and he got his hands in his pocket are you having his hands in his pocket and he was like yeah life might happen yeah like subliminal reading the mind grace read minds you know that right yes no hope said your tears I'm such a terrorist so I can you know mean it certain keys I can in a couple on so sight poem so now I'm in New York I get to LA it's almost
