hi i'm alex archbull and i've been buying and selling antiques since i was nine years old from basements to scrap yards i'll look just about anywhere i can to find lost antiques and collectibles and sometimes i'll go big and buy everything with my wife and kids we run an antique shop in edmonton alberta canada filled with some of the most unique items we can find i never know what's going to happen or who i'm going to meet this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity from home honey [Music] hey everyone well today is uh day one of me taking a bunch of stuff into the auction house we have been planning for a little bit to do a big auction sale um i have to take about 400 things in to the sale and so far today i've got i think 52 for round one i've got to do this several times before i get to my ultimate number why the auction sale well we've been buying buying all summer long and we're going to be coming up to winter here i want to make sure i not only get the store all cleaned up and organized and ready for uh christmas sales but we are fundraising i shouldn't say fundraising uh because i'm selling my own stuff but i'm selling stuff to raise funds uh to put the building up next door so uh that's really part of it and that's uh that's the big reason why i wonder if that guy picked that license plate or if he just went into the registry's office and they gave him the license plate fun 666. i think i'd be asking for a different one first delivery is here we have a 100 year old bashalam microscope an anti-globe a dulcimer some new guinea spears including a hand-carved uh walking stick or staff phrenology head which is kind of cool uh star trek ship cameras old microphones old radios a whole box full of 1970s and 80s star wars cards of course i've got some cameras really cool orange rotary telephone uh we've got a parking meter with the original key 100 year old violin this is a the silver mountain express which is uh still in its original box and i don't think it's ever been even used the magic robot game that's going to go up a little pinup picture there from the 40s uh one of a couple really nice pieces this is a quite an old brass transit level with the original tripod of course people sometimes use these uh tripods to put a light on top of a spotlight you see them at restoration hardware etc but a really nice piece of home decor same with that world war ii wooden airplane propeller with the beautiful brass trim edge on it um a team reset there's a bunch of concert posters 1980s mike bossy jersey and this is a professional jersey this is one that's actually uh this fellow new nhl players that's from stalin dean in uh massachusetts it's kind of unusual train set there that's the tycho street car set from the 60s and of course you know when you are lost at sea you can align the stars and find out where you're at with this beautiful german wood box piece so for a first round trip uh there's gonna there's already a lot of fun stuff things that i probably would have been on myself oh forgot about these too there's a maswati t10 full of vintage microphones it's just full and these are all professional these are hohner cx-12s these are actually a professional uh chromatic harmonica um they're quite expensive new like i think they're over a couple hundred dollars new i've got three of them uh two and c and one in a and then the beautiful uh hohner goliath 48 reed harmonica nice antique model just in outstanding condition with the its original wrapping beautiful beautiful piece there's a coal miners lantern this is an 1800s italian micro mosaic brooch those are all tiny little pieces of glass that have been hand cut and fitted to create that floral pattern it's a beautiful piece of artwork and i'm sure that will do well at the sale i've had that for a little bit and i've been reluctant to put it through auction but i think this is the time someone's going to really like that and it does have the uh does have the pin on the back and show that really neat piece and i just picked these up the other day these are uh general store they're nail drawers out of an old hardware store so you would have had your each type of nail or screw in there at the store and you'd buy it probably by the pound they'd have a scale likely on top or nearby but people use these for crafts they use them for putting the thread their ribbons their you know tapes if you do scrap booking people are always looking for a nice wooden cabinet with lots of drawers on it so anytime i bring one of those down to auction they always seem to do well so first batch of stuff is here now to go back to the store and find some more okay i made it back with the second round of stuff and this time brought in little barbershop quartet um this is an autographed roy rogers and dale evans picture i got from an estate of a guy who is a pretty serious autograph collector that and of course mary pickford signed by her coca-cola trays this is a neat little mohair teddy bear i thought it might be a stiffy sometimes they're missing the button but i haven't had enough time to research it so it's just going to go with the auction as it is might be a stiff um but what a cute little guy he is mohair an excelsior stuffed box cameras uh let's see brought down an element sewing machine uh oh yeah the uh these are red cross racing leathers these were used the fella i got it from said that uh there was one race that was used in the isle of man back in the early 70s really really cool piece this would have been custom fit for the gentleman that had it nice piece of course the new zealand commonwealth games judges jacket with thai super rare piece if you're in new zealand that should be in your museum it shouldn't be here at an auction house same with this if you're in the united states this is a 1960s u.s air force fighter pilot uh flight suit with the gloves um and this was used by major jerry berry who was a cold war pilot and also trained um some of the astronauts um he used to check them out in the fighter planes before they became the astronauts in the mercury 7 program so pretty cool piece i actually have pictures of major brewery with scott carpenter and so forth uh who knows maybe one of the astronauts wore that when they were checking out i brought in my colleague i've had it around the store for a couple years it's time to bring it in i love it it's life-size it's the coolest thing ever everybody wants it it's a big piece because it's the size of a dog uh and of course the old western barber chair are not barber chair well i guess who knows what they would have done now shine your shoes and cut your hair no it was a shoe shine chair um probably sat in front of a saloon or a hotel it's got the old western style footrest the cast horse footrest this is the one that we discovered still had the original writing on the side and it says we use ralston polishes on it which was a neat advertising piece uh cremade western style leather jacket fringe we've got um this is american i believe a police holster complete set so lots more neat stuff and that's only the beginning of it oh and of course i forgot to mention this there's the famous cow picture i pulled out of the abandoned house and everybody really liked it and wanted to pick it up well this would be your chance to get it it's a really cool painting and the colors are very vibrant i actually quite like that piece myself um and if you're into automotive stuff this antique general store display case is chock full of original 1920s printer's blocks but it's all automotive related so ac spark plugs um tools everything to do with cars basically it's all wood blocks that would have been used at the printer's press for automobiles really really nice piece uh great piece of early printing history and would make wonderful stamps like if you uh wanted to even just use them as stamps on uh if you're sending out letters or creating your own sort of fonts there's a whole collection of those in there anyway it's starting to come together there's a bunch of stuff i've got a ways to go there's a little gramophone up top there and the more i bring in the more there will be a bid on so i'm going to call it a day for this round um i've got a few more rounds of stuff to bring in before we'll have enough for sale but looking pretty good so far you might notice that i'm driving i'd also notice that i'm driving the ambulance why do i need a larger vehicle well i've decided to head out a little bit outside of town the guy's acreage and he has a bunch of old general store showcases that he said he was going to basically throw away if i didn't come pick him up and you never want to see history like that especially turning this entry showcases get uh thrown out or destroyed uh they just really add to the character of a building and since i'm going to be having a new building put up next door at some point i thought i should at least get a couple extra cabinets that we could probably use in the shop and since the price will be right and it's not too far from town i figured why not go pick it up [Music] so i have stowaway number one abigail who's come out with me and stowaway number two jason see if we can find some treasures for the shop now you were saying that you had a general store set up in your basement at one point and you were collecting all of these old counters and displays for for extra use but you ended up with a few more than you needed that's correct yeah okay so we've got parts of cases and cabinets and what looks like the world's largest picture frames are those brass those are uh door frames oh those are door frames where on earth did you find giant brass door frames like that they came out of a government building about 40 years ago wow and you you kept them okay i can see here's one showcase it's got most of its glass yeah it's glass oh it's glass okay well there's one paint on the bottom that's broken but it's kind of a blue tint isn't it and yeah there's this one here but there's al also i can see you've got some signs that's that's a folding chair a folding chair okay well i really that's neat um some picture frames boy i think there's gonna be all kinds of neat stuff in here so uh you're okay if i dig i see a tin ceiling tile over there which i could use i mean i'm also looking for stuff that could be repurposed into the new general storm building so anything like this is going to be probably of interest so i guess what i'll do is i'll just start dragging stuff outside and we'll chat about it all right so we've got some old catalogs this is just leftovers i guess from yeah from quitting out from clean outs and so forth okay well i think we're gonna be able to do some business oh that's pat boone i don't know that's ricky nelson vicki nelson yeah you know we have a friend whose name is rick nelson who is also a musician i know rick yeah you know rick yeah of course of course you would know rick yeah but he's not that ricky nelson let's see there's some old board games some old books the saint detective magazine that became a tv show with uh roger moore before he became james bond yeah it was the original game of sorry too okay yes that would be there's some wedding pictures but i do see a couple toys in here a little radio battery operated he's got his box yeah i think i think there's a couple lunch kits six million dollar man and peanuts we'll grab those i see part of a sign there too well uh okay guys you want to grab this from dad both of those so avio you got to keep your eyes out and see if you think something's cool too okay you too jason you need a general and abio's holding the top of a star weekly bicycle rack and apparently the rest of the rack is around here somewhere so i'm going to keep doing a little digging this is a really old one i'm finally going to clean up the garage oh no i'm glad you invited me out oh sure i mean this is what you said 100 year old beaded curtain and then we've got the uh the bottom of what would have been a glass cube showcase there it's just missing the glass you know the main part of the showcase but still it's got the original base something could be done with that those are some old magazines and records and stuff might suppose aside oh here i can get i'm going to set the camera down i'll give you a hand you have to find a place yeah oh i know storage is always a bit of an opportunity when you're packing your place full right okay i'm gonna set some of this in the box so we can make sure that you're okay with this going but i'll bring it outside looks like a lot of magazine ads yeah yeah there's a bunch of magazine ads there yeah we'll i'll bring it outside and then we can look through i want to make sure you're okay with everything that's going today but i came early you came yeah okay bottles i don't think there's anything below that here okay no well you've got a trunk here with a big skeleton key yeah that uh i think i'm keeping that what's it from that there's uh families uh uh my grandfather made that it was uh an immigrant so okay they brought it with them yeah i brought it with them yeah okay well i did see on the floor here there was a few more old tin lunch kits and i see a thermos over there so we'll get these up off the floor what is this funny looking uh it looks like an upholstered chair bottom almost oh that's from uh a square barbie chair oh that's a square barber's chair so it just doesn't have the legs or the all the pieces okay old picture frame here's your flat caps those are actual old flat caps those are old ones from uh from the 40s yep still have the tag on that one well sometimes this is promising it sounds like there's cars inside of it one can hope well they're not as old as what i was hoping but there's still cars in there i need to summon the children oh children i need you to come take this little hot wheels case from dad thank you and i can go over in our pile of goodies uh looks like your super eight movie collection over there but you got nails on oh yeah yeah i used to work in the film business so but the cans are just nails and screws okay here's an early board game honey it's five star final you can see it's dated 1937 on the newspaper anyway it's a little bit dusty but you want to put that out in our to-go pile thanks honey there's all sorts of other stuff outside too but what we came back here for was this that's the original bike rack for the star weekly bicycle rack i'd put it in front of my shop if i wasn't worried that some kid would pull that sign off and run away with it but really really neat let's see if we can dig it up out of the ground but this is the pile of things that i was able to pull out of the garage that are of interest and we're just going through and making sure that everything can go a little cheese cutter if you wanted to cut the cheese back in the old days that's what you did it on and with a garage like this it is kind of impossible to see everything unless you laid everything all out and went through every bin which i imagine he'll want to do at some point it's difficult to leave these neat old showcase panels behind they basically just need glass but with the cost of glass kind of outweighs the value of the showcase so you have to be somewhat fussy with what you're what you're bringing back with you but there is a nice little variety of uh antiques just literally piled everywhere so i don't envy the job of going through it all but uh it's time to clean up the garage so he says uh there's another little folding chair here i might just grab that too that was like a washed uh wash stand with the rollers those are people who use those for putting plants on and decoration but that's considered like a primitive antique and i don't get into those too much but uh boy where to even start oh you know there's a ford sign right there too i walked here oh well somebody might oh is it just a sticker on a tin okay the silly knee if i walked right past and left a forward side behind i was able to find some room in the garage for all the showcases and some of the bigger pieces that i picked up like the copper door frames and the bike rack um the smaller items are gonna either go to the auction or to the store so i'm here at the house figuring out what's gonna go and what's gonna stay but there are some cool items in there either way i'm sure we'll find buyers for them this 1930s milton bradley game five star final is what it's called is actually in a lot better shape than i thought the box has been flattened a little bit but the pieces seem to all be there and the graphics on the front once i got the dust off were really not that bad we got some old lunch kits from thermis um walt disney world a couple of those we've got the peanuts one which is really cute reggae ann and andy and the walt disney world uh oh yeah it even has look at this even has the thermos to go along with it so nice little matching set those will probably go through auction we've got the little uh battery-operated bear with his kleenex and he uh he actually blows his nose i guess is the idea he made a little bit of a squeaking sound earlier i guess that's him sneezing that's cute the box is here too now this is the back off of a little folding chair that would have been used at sporting events and they were obviously sponsored by that cigarette company so if you were sitting on the seat you'd see their name and if you looked at the other side well heck you'd see their name there too and that is what you would call a porcelain enamel that is an enamel sign that's in the back of an old chair i think that's pretty neat um and these are posters from movie theaters uh they're dated you know probably close to over 35 years ago or so yeah 1982 is when these are from but they've got that great sort of classic clark gable kind of look um interesting looking graphics on them and as a collector item while they are actually from a theater um this is from missoula montana and they're going to be going out on display um probably at the auction house before too long got the fisher price sesame street play family house i don't know if you saw that that i was looking at that when it was there and if you open it up actually has quite a few of the accessories mr hooper um it's got the ladder there's a lot of the little bits and pieces that go along with it oftentimes these little guys are missing and because they're sesame street specific they're actually a little bit more collectible than just your average um figure and i can see don't ask me why i know this but that is big bird's nest and there's big bird so pretty cute is burt and ernie actually it looks almost like they're all here we got bert we've got ernie mr hooper uh i can't remember all their names it's been a really long time that just looks like a generic sort of lady yeah well at least there's a good variety of them here the sanitation truck yeah neat so that's a nice little set uh i thought this was cool you don't often find really old cereal boxes they are very commonly thrown out so when you come across an early box that's even somewhat intact it's worth hanging on to there are people who will put these back together you put them on display i'm going to use these on the top shelves at my store just as decoration to make it look like an old general store but look there's old soap wrappers pudding wrappers dandy brand caramel pudding canada corn starch all kind of neat international fern hyde company i didn't even go through this box yet it's kind of fun to look at and see that's a collar for a shirt gentleman's collar they're still nice and white too back when the collars were separate from the shirt so this is all stuff that you'd see in an old general store and these are all things that i could probably you know fluff up and uh stuff and put on display in the store and it'll look just about right so i think that's exactly what i'm gonna do with it make my store look like an old-fashioned general store up at the front and just put those out as a display piece so considering i just went out there to find some used display cases i found all sorts of other fun stuff too old toys board games books uh even a commodores and i'm hoping that with all the small stuff that goes to auction from today that uh by the time we sell it off next week then maybe it'll be easy money but for now i'm gonna go and load up the car with items for auction get the store decorated and hope that all goes well when we do the auction sale at kastner it will be available to bid online um and we will record the event so we can show you what the results were gonna keep my fingers crossed on that but for now thanks for watching today's video guys um if you want to sign up and see what's going on in the auction you can go to k auctions dot ca the items aren't live yet they'll be going up live in about a week or two but um yeah i appreciate you guys watching this episode and uh i gotta get back to work bye for now [Music] you
