Datum Gear AR 15 JIG

datum gear sent me a jig that got lost in the time vortex of the United States Postal Service for a week and it arrived today after being missing for six days they're sending me another one which I'll mail back to them I only need one so yeah lovely work there United States Postal Service let's see what we've got okay I know I'm not supposed to cut towards me I was a boy scout [ __ ] it I'm an adult now cut whoever the hell I want to Hey just keep coming okay this is their jig kit Oh black anodized that's nice so this is for if you're doing it on your drill press you just drill a whole bunch of little tiny holes to clean out your fire control pocket right side bushing plate this is freaking pretty oh man left side plate oh it's even keyed for you okay so you got this raised bit here that looks like this fits into two lineup sorry heads giving it away that is nice fire control pocket mill guide step mill guide and trigger a whole mill through also keyed nice same thing with the fire control pocket mill guide keyed let's get the lower and see how it works Oh magical change of scenery and laws are still here so I had to move back down to my office so here we are with the datum gear low they're super duper awesome from what I can see y'all saw in the last video I did that I said I already bought a jig well this was the jig I bought off gun broker and this shows you what fifty bucks gets you I mean this is it you get the two side plates the top plate and your trigger whole plate 50 bucks very basic very rough not even anodized it's it's a fifty dollar jig there's this thing this thing's like a hundred and seventy and it shows with this one you could potentially even finish out an aluminum they are lower on a drill press because you have all these tiny little holes that you would drill down to the appropriate depth width and then you'd swap out your keyed tops and then you could mill all that out using this as a guide then key it again to drill out your trigger hole and the step where the rear takedown pin goes through it's just this is a beautiful kit whereas with your cheapo I bought it off of gun broker kit it's not anodized the edges are I'll be frank they're sharp it looks like it came straight off of the mill thing you only get to the to guide plates you don't get the one with all the little bitty holes to make it easier for you but still perform the same function but this is like snap-on this is like craftsman pardon the tool references so this is how you go about putting the lower into the jig got your left plate got the right plate naturally you sandwich the jig together since the bushings are on this side you'd be drilling through on this side you've got these pins they go through they will line up with the front and the rear takedown pins I don't think I'm going to do this on the drill press so we can skip this part because it's polymer I can just go right in with plunge cuts I would start out with fire control pocket and you wouldn't want to over torque these because these are steel bolts and aluminum not a good idea to over tighten stuff like that and that's how you fit your lower into the jig so then I would take in the height of this jig plus the depth that I need to cut into into here add them together then I know how far down I need to go in from this surface and I can measure that with my calipers I would rough it in first then do another cut to get it closer and then I would determine the final distance I needed to go to and then finish it out and then that wouldn't mill out my fire control pocket with this very nice looking jig now obviously a jig that's more complex I'm sorry it's not a jig a lower that's more complex like this gee 150 with all this raised surfaces and everything you can't use it in a standard ar-15 jig like the datum gears or your GP $50 so you got to use their jig we're not going to get into milling right now because relatives are still in town my real life video shooting schedule has been really busy so last week and this weekend I've been too busy and about all I can manage to pull off is this tabletop review I apologize for that hopefully sometime in the near future next video you'll see me on the mill or the drill press tearing into these things so you got that to look forward to thanks for watching this is the jig they sent me to finish out the datum kevlar reinforced polymer lower hey smokey sorry for opening up this what yes yes I'm I'm working here okay sorry for opening up this way uh in-laws are in town and the rumor I normally record this stuff is um occupied so I'll say hi to my cat
