D16 EBAY TURBO KIT- STOCK ECU NO TUNE! Pt.2 WE HAVE BOOST FIXING THE WASTEGATE

g'day youtube it's turbo tristan here and today we're going to address the issue of the d16 ebay turbo kit not making any boost we found out that it was the firing so we're going to get into changing that out i'm just letting the engine cool down so stick around we're going to try it out and see if we can make some boosts so since the last time uh we got lots and lots of views on this video we took an ebay kit it was a rev9 ebay kit and for the life of me i couldn't find the little firing that goes down here in between the wastegate and the manifold now i can see there's a new wastegate on there we've got a turbosmart wastegate now which is a big big upgrade to the one that was on there so i actually wasn't expecting that i thought it was still the original one so we'll pull that off check check it for leaks and everything and make sure everything's running smoothly and we'll try and check the boost and i can see that the wastegate's also been moved and it's now pointing uh at the radiator which is again not ideal but a bit better than pointing straight into the turbo see if we can't fix it and do a recap and a review on how it's driving now so it turns out this was the culprit this was the fire ring and maybe it was there maybe it wasn't maybe i overlooked it but i definitely couldn't find this and i didn't know that it needed to go on the manifold in between the wastegate and the manifold and it sort of helps seal everything up so very important this is going to stop the boost leak and we're going to have max power i don't know about this wastegate and what its base boost is and i don't think we have a boost controller but we're going to swap it over check it out and see what happens so the car is still pretty hot so i'm we're using my welding gloves to take this off because guaranteed i'm going to burn myself i'm just gonna take it off all in one piece it's nice and loose anyway actually okay so it looks like there was already one in there with this new wastegate what's your background zoe um burma i heard that people from burma only have one first name no no they don't have first name second and they just have one name sometimes yeah one yeah yeah i had a customer once from burma and they only had one name and we needed two names for the license for selling a car yeah it was tricky it's confusing so i pulled off the turbosmart wastegate uh i noticed that there was already a fire ring in there so when the owner switched over the firing or switched over the wastegate they've put the firing in so they've done better than me smarter than me there they didn't miss that uh they've also hooked up the boost controller it was opened quite a fair way so what i've done is closed that off so what we're going to do is take the car for a very short drive just test it make sure it's getting full boost now i'll also check the fuel pressure while the engine's running and maybe turn that up just a little bit just to help it out and then we'll start slowly increasing the boost and see how far we get now this is going to get lots of questions unfortunately i can't help anyone there's no boost controller on the car it's actually stolen out of the car so we don't have a boost controller to check what the boost is we're testing it but we're sort of back to square one as well so the great news is that wastegate was replaced so that saved the headache and the hard work of putting in the firing and testing that so unfortunately i can't do a test on that now but good news is we've got a turbo smart one which is one of the best ones you can get in the whole world so it's on there now it's all plumbed up correctly we still have the questionable dump pipe which is going to need some fixing but that is what it is everything else is looking good so as i said we'll check the fuel pressure and we'll go for a run so the great news is with the firing in there's no boost leaking from here which means we're going to get maximum boost and the fuel pressure is still set at 40 psi at idle which is pretty good i might bump that up a couple of psi maybe to 45 just to help the engine out a bit give it a little bit of a backyard tune so i'll do that go for a drive put the camera on the window you know the drill so [Music] all right so the wastegate's been fixed the boost is turned all the way down to its lowest setting we don't have any exhaust leaks let's check it out full send time we definitely have boost we definitely have blowout valve so that's a bonus uh everything's rattling and shaking worse than it did last time i drove it but let's uh switch the engine off clear that code and i'll turn the boost controller up just a little bit so there's a little bit of a language barrier i spoke to the vehicle owner a couple of weeks ago asking if they found the firing turns out they had it so i arranged as soon as lockdown was over that they come out and i'll replace it all and fix it all up and we'll test again little did i know that he's already gone ahead and swapped out to a turbo smart wastegate which is the best advice i actually sent him the link for that marketplace ad and said you should buy this because i know that's not going to have any issues and he did which is fantastic he's gone and put it on so good job and we've also got the wastegate pipes being moved around it's in a better spot but it's still not in the best spot we've got boost we've got spool we're hearing everything now so definitely for everyone who commented on the last video thank you so much it was 100 the firing and you guys are right and thanks so much for sharing all that info with me um you know we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the subscribers and the commenters so thanks very much uh since then the car's been broken into it's had the boost gauge stolen you know there's been a few different things happen to it in the owner's life so you know poor guy at least we can get him having a bit of boost and enjoying his car now we're gonna fire it up and we'll test it again i've wound the boost controller up two full turns uh it's not going to make a huge difference it didn't feel like there was too much boost in there it felt like about four or five pounds but it was solid this time uh hopefully now we're going to be on about six or seven so let's test it out in mexico there's all sorts of noises coming out of this car so so first feed it on in second gear popped something i think we've popped a cooler pipe something's popped did sound exactly like a cooler pipe it was hanging or rubbing oh well back to the garage and we'll see what that was so i just checked when we pulled over i thought we'd blown an intercooler hose but it's actually the blower valve has popped off these don't come with the best circlip mountings this style so i'm going to quickly throw that back on double check that it's all good and i might turn the boost down slightly everything's driving well it's driving nice it's making boost as you saw we're on the right path well youtube i'm really sorry that was a bit of an anti-climax turns out it was all just a language barrier issue the car owner is newly to australia from burma and it's really difficult uh back and forth because i don't know burmese but he's a really lovely dude really cool guy he's he's keen to just forget the d series and throw a k-swap in there funny we just uh after the blowout valve popped off the car started to overheat instantly and i thought oh no what have i done i've touched it he ran over pulled the fuse box cover off switched over some relays and got the fan to turn on so apparently that seems to be something that he's pretty familiar with fixing up of course i instructed him to get himself uh a new relay because the fan's very important i instructed him still needs to look at computer fuel pump fuel injectors all that sort of stuff but hey this is what messing around with the single jingle is you just do the best you can with the money that you've got and you make it work and you still have fun you still enjoy your car you still get to do turbo noises and fly around and race people and just enjoy having cheap performance really that's what it's all about there is a video coming on this and you'll see it coming very soon everything's all set up there's a new big intercooler and a big radiator which i'll give you the sneak peek you can't see where the old one is the new one's tucked up much further and it's much bigger so we'll get to that soon i do have my fibreglass kit so we are going to look at
